JACOB POV

“Dad, why do you look so tense?” Daniel asked, sitting beside me in the car. His voice was calm, but his eyes held concern.

Actually I had gone to the mansion of the Morales not just me but with my son, the letter i had seen in the email box when I had gone to collect my emails from my box that was placed in front of my house.

I couldn't stop thinking about who had written the letter by telling me that it was one of the Morales families that had placed the exact necklace we had at the spot where my son had stayed on the rooftop.

I leaned back in the driver’s seat, staring at the dusty windshield. “Tense? No, Daniel, I’m thinking. There’s a difference,” I replied, my tone sharp. I didn’t mean to snap, but my mind was swirling with too many questions, too many possibilities.

He didn’t respond immediately. I glanced at him and saw his jaw tighten, his fists clenched. I sighed, softening my voice.

“Daniel, tell me something. Did you see anyone near the spot where you left your guns?”

He shook his head. “No, I was careful. No one saw me. I made sure of that.”

“Then how the hell,” I growled, “did one of our family’s necklaces end up there? How, Daniel?!” My voice rose, frustration boiling over.

Daniel blinked, taken aback. “Dad, I…I don’t know. I didn’t put it there! I swear! Didn't you see my necklace still round my neck when you asked for my necklace or are you still not seeing the necklace on my neck?”

I believed him. Daniel wasn’t stupid. He wouldn’t jeopardize the plan, especially not one as critical as killing Mr. Johnson even though he missed the chance of firing the right place for Johnson not to survive.

But someone had known. Someone had been one step ahead. Someone had impersonated me, my family, and planted that damn necklace.

No I shouldn't say impersonate because it was truly my son who was the sniper, let me say someone wants to expose me.

I gripped the steering wheel, my knuckles turning white. “The Morales family,” I muttered under my breath.

“What about them?” Daniel asked.

“They knew, no one of them knew.” I said, my voice low but firm. “They knew what we were planning. They knew about you trying to kill Johnson, your uncle.

And somehow, they managed to get an exact replica of our family necklace. Do you understand what that means, Daniel?”

His eyes widened. “You think they’re trying to expose us?”

“Of course, they are!” I spat. “Why else would they leave that necklace there? They wanted someone to find it, to link us to the sniper, to ruin everything.”

Daniel leaned forward, his face pale. “But how did they know about the plan, Dad? Who told them?”

“That’s the question, isn’t it?” I said bitterly. “Who in the Morales family knew about our plan to take out Johnson?

And how the hell did they act so quickly? They didn’t just know…they had time to prepare, to create a replica of our heirloom, and plant it there.”

Daniel was silent for a moment, then said, “Do you think… do you think someone in our family might have leaked the information?”

I froze, the possibility sending a chill down my spine. “No,” I said firmly, though doubt crept into my voice. “No one in our family would betray us. This has to be the Morales family’s doing.”

And another question is…how did the person who wrote the letter knew that I had tried killing my step brother and how did that same person know that it was one who is in the Morales family that had planted the necklace there.

But the thought lingered. Could someone close to us have turned? Could someone have fed them the information? I shook my head, trying to focus. I needed answers, not more questions.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out the letter I’d received that sunny afternoon. The memory of it still burned in my mind.

It had been a bright, warm day, the kind that made you want to forget the world’s ugliness. But the letter had shattered any peace I might have felt.

It had been delivered by hand, no name, no return address. Inside, the message was clear,

“One of the Morales family planted your necklace. Figure it out.”

I had read it over and over, trying to make sense of it. The handwriting was unfamiliar. Who had sent it? Why were they helping me? Or were they?

Daniel noticed the letter in my hand. “Is that the letter you told me about?”

I nodded, handing it to him. He read it, his brow furrowing. “This doesn’t make sense,” he said.

“Why would someone in the Morales family plant the necklace and then tell you about it? What’s their plan?”

“That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out,” I said. “If it really was someone in their family, then the person who sent this letter must have known. But how? And why would they warn me? None of it adds up.”

Daniel stared at the letter, then at me. “What if it’s a trap? What if they want you to think it’s one of the Morales family, but it’s really someone else?”

I considered that. It was possible. But then again, why go through all the trouble? Why plant the necklace at all? Why not just let our plan succeed or fail on its own?

I shook my head. “No, there’s more to this. Someone’s playing a game, and I’m not about to lose.”

Daniel hesitated, then asked, “Do you have any idea who might have written it? Or who planted the necklace?”

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “No. But I will find out. I have to.”

Just then, my phone rang, breaking the tense silence. I pulled it out and glanced at the screen. It was an unknown number.

“Who is it?” Daniel asked.

The contract file. The missing piece. The one thing that could tie everything together.“Where is the contract file?” I demanded. The voice chuckled. “Let’s just say it wasn't easy to sneak the file out of the office but I did it. You’ll get the file soon enough. Consider it… a Christmas gift.”The line went dead.I stared at the phone, a slow, wicked smile spreading across my face. “Well, well,” I murmured. “It seems the game just got a lot more interesting.”Daniel looked at me, confused. “What happened? Who was it?”“One of my men who knows more than they’re letting on,” I said, slipping the phone back into my pocket. “But don’t worry, Daniel. We’ll figure this out. MAFIA POVI exhaled slowly, trying to regain my composure. This had to work. It had to.The expressway remained very quiet, save for the occasional rustle of leaves in the breeze. I kept my eyes on the road, scanning for any sign of Richard’s car."Still nothing," Alisha muttered, her voice laced with frustration.I ignored her, pulling out my phone instead. Max had promised to keep me updated on Richard’s movements, but I hadn’t heard from him.I dialed his number, pressing the phone to my ear. He picked up on the second ring."Nadia," he said, his voice groggy. "What’s going on?""I’m still here," I said, glancing at the road again. "Still waiting for Richard. I haven’t seen a car that looks like his yet."There was a pause on the other end. "You sure he’s taking that route?""Yes," I said, trying to keep the frustration out of my voice. "I’m sure. The massive vehicle hit the red car with a deafening crash, sending it tumbling down the hill. The sound of metal crunching against rocks echoed through the air.Carl didn’t wait to admire his handiwork. He hit the gas, speeding away from the scene.I turned my attention back to Richard’s car. The fallen branch had dislodged from his windshield, but the damage was done. His car was stationary now, the engine still running but the front hood crumpled.Through the cracked glass, I saw him moving, as he was unhurt. ALISHA'S POVI could hear Richard’s footsteps following behind the nurses as they led me through the corridors. I had been unconscious for a while, or at least pretending to be.When I opened my eyes, I could see Richard trailing behind, his expression torn between worry and disbelief. He had no idea what was really going on.“Wait outside, please,” one of the nurses, Bella, said firmly as they reached the hospital ward. “We’ll take care of her from here.”Richard hesitated, his eyes darting between Bella and me. “But I…” I could see his face because I had opened my eyes slightly and someone wouldn't know that my eyes were opened.“Just wait outside,” Bella repeated, her voice cold but polite. “It’s best if you don’t disturb her. We’ll call you when she’s settled.”Richard sighed, his shoulders slumping. “Okay,” he said reluctantly, and I could see him step back, his gaze still on me for a moment before the door clicked shut.I exhaled slowly, feeling the tension leave my body as I re

RICHARD POV“Good morning, Sarah,” I said, my voice steady as I held the phone to my ear, navigating the chaos of my morning.“Listen, I’ll be late for the meeting. Should I reschedule?”“No,” I replied firmly.“Just handle the preliminaries until I get there. And one more thing…make sure my suit is ready for tonight’s Japanese ball. I can’t afford any mistakes.” I sounded so professional and official at the moment.“Yes, sir. I’ll have it prepared and delivered to your residence,” she assured me.As I hung up, I couldn’t help but think about the significance of the ball. ALISHA'S POV“Are you sure this will work?” I whispered, glancing nervously at the two women standing in the hospital ward with me.Their crisp white uniforms and confident expressions should have reassured me, but my hands still trembled.“Yes, Alisha,” one of them replied, adjusting her nurse’s cap. “Nadia’s plan is foolproof. Trust us. Just stick to the script.”“But what if he doesn’t come back in?” I asked, my voice barely audible. The seconds stretched into minutes as we waited for Richard to return to the ward. I’d been sitting here long enough to know he wasn’t coming.“If he doesn’t come back,” the taller one said with a knowing smirk, “that’s when you make your move. You run out, and we’ll follow. We’ll act like we’re trying to stop you, but we’ll let you reach him. Once you do, we’ll say whatever it takes to convince him.”The other nurse nodded. “Remember, the goal is to make him take you with him. The rest is up to you.”I swallowed hard and nodded. “Fine. RICHARD POV“Richard, guess what the good news is!” my mother’s cheerful voice rang out through the phone, her excitement practically vibrating through the line.I sighed, keeping one hand firmly on the steering wheel while balancing the phone in the other. “Argh…Mom, you know I’m terrible at guessing. Can’t you just tell me?”My mother has been telling me for the past few minutes to guess…what exactly does she want me to guess on.I already told her that I wasn't good at guessing and she knows that even without telling her.“No, no,” she said insistently. “This is too exciting. You have to guess.”Now I was so eager to hear whatever good news she wanted to share but she was making it hard for me.I groaned, glancing at the woman sitting silently in the passenger seat. Her face was turned toward the window, her expression unreadable. She hadn’t said much since we left the hospital, and her silence only added to the oddness of the situation.“Mom, I really don’t have time for this,” I

ALISHA'S POV.I rolled my eyes, though I made sure to keep my voice calm. "I was busy, Nadia. You can’t expect me to drop everything every time you call.""Busy?" she snapped. "What could you possibly be doing that’s more important than keeping me updated?"I clenched my jaw, taking a deep breath before responding. "I was in the middle of dinner with Richard. I couldn’t exactly answer your call in front of him, could I?"Nadia’s tone softened slightly, but her impatience was still evident. "Fine. But you need to tell me what’s going on. Have you heard anything new about the wedding?"I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. "No, Nadia. I haven’t heard anything else. And even if I had, do you really think I’d tell you in the middle of dinner?"There was a pause on the other end of the line, and I could almost hear her frustration. "You need to stay on top of this, Alisha," she said finally. "We can’t afford any mistakes.""I know," I replied, my voice clipped. "You don’t have to remin

I promise I won't cause any trouble or anything.I just thought…well, I’d really like to be there. But if you don’t want me to, I understand, and I won’t bring it up again."Richard stared at me for a moment, his expression unreadable. My heart pounded in my chest, though not from fear or nerves. This was the critical moment, the point where I’d see if he’d bend to my request. Finally, he sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Alisha," he said slowly, "why would you even want to come? It’s not exactly a public event."I smiled again, this time letting it tremble slightly. "I don’t know," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. RICHARD POV.What could possibly be holding her up?I leaned back in my chair, trying to push away the nagging feeling in my chest. She had been in an accident earlier today, after all.It wasn’t unreasonable to think she might need more time to get ready. Perhaps the pain from her injuries was slowing her down. But then another thought crept in, one I couldn’t shake. What if something’s wrong? The memory of the hospital flashed in my mind…her pale face, the nurses bustling around her, and the soft murmur of their voices as they instructed me on how to care for her.She needs rest and support, they had said. She’s lucky it wasn’t worse.Lucky. That word had stuck with me all day. She was lucky, wasn’t she? It could’ve been much worse. But now, sitting here, waiting for her, I couldn’t help but wonder if I was doing enough. Was she comfortable? Was she in pain? Had she even been able to bathe with the bandages on her arm?I sighed, running a hand through my hair. Maybe I should’ve stay

I froze, staring at the door, hoping that if I stayed silent long enough, whoever it was might just leave.“Alisha?” Richard’s voice came from the other side, firm and impatient. “Are you alright in there?”I quickly scrambled to pull myself together. “I’m fine!” I called out, my voice a little higher-pitched than I intended. I cleared my throat, trying to sound calmer. “I’m just… just getting dressed.”There was a pause, and I could feel his presence lingering just beyond the door. “Dinner is ready,” he said after a moment. “You should come downstairs and eat something.”“Alright,” I replied, forcing a lightness into my tone. “I’ll be there in a bit.”“I’ll wait for you downstairs,” he said, and I could hear the faint sound of his footsteps retreating down the hallway.I didn’t move until I was sure he was gone. But I wasn’t going to let her dictate my life.“I remember,” I said through clenched teeth. “But don’t forget, I’m the one in the mansion right now. I’m the one Richard trusts. So maybe you should ease up on the threats.”There was a pause on the other end, and I smirked, knowing I’d hit a nerve.“Just stick to the plan,” Nadia said finally, her voice cold. “Don’t get any ideas.”“Of course,” I lied smoothly. We ended the call, and I stared at the phone in my hand for a moment before shoving it back into its hiding place.Stick to the plan? But without proof, without a clear understanding of what had just happened, my words would mean nothing.Kenneth would dismiss me, as he always did, and Max would walk away victorious once again.I glanced around the room, my eyes landing briefly on Nadia. MR JACOB POV.The door creaked shut behind Max as he walked away, leaving me standing at the restroom entrance, completely stunned. My mind raced as I stared at the spot where he had just been. How could he possibly be fine? I had heard him coughing violently from inside. I had seen the blood…there was no mistaking it.I looked down at the faint red smear on the floor near the threshold of the restroom. That was real. I wasn’t imagining things. The blood was fresh, unmistakable evidence that something had happened to him there. So how was he walking away, calm and composed, with that infuriating smirk on his face?“This doesn’t make sense,” I muttered under my breath. I stepped into the restroom, my eyes scanning every corner. The sink was still wet, droplets of water clinging to its surface. The mirror above it was fogged slightly, likely from Max leaning in close as he tried to clean himself up.As I moved further in, my eyes landed on something on the edge of the counter. A tiny bo

TAMMIE POV.I raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “And why would I care about her?”“The woman I came with today was injured by me,” he explained, his tone almost defensive. “I thought you might be wondering who she is.”I shrugged, feigning disinterest. “Not really. But go on, if it’ll make you feel better.”He exhaled, his gaze shifting briefly to the floor. “I met her a few days ago. It wasn’t planned. I... accidentally hit her with my car.”I blinked, taken aback for a moment. “You hit her with your car?”“Yes,” he said quickly. “It was an accident. She was crossing the street, and I didn’t see her in time. She’s been recovering, and I felt responsible. That’s why I brought her here…to keep an eye on her.”I stared at him, my expression carefully neutral. “So you hit a woman with your car, and now she’s your responsibility?”“She doesn’t have anyone else,” he said, his voice softer now. “I just... I didn’t want you to get the wrong idea.”I let out a short, humorless laugh. “The wrong
