MAX’S POV
Morning came quickly, and I was ready for work. My briefcase was packed, and my suit was pressed to perfection. I left the house in high spirits, though my mind was already calculating the day ahead. The drive to the office was uneventful, but as I parked my car and stepped into the building, I knew today was going to be different. The familiar buzz of employees greeted me as I walked through the glass doors. A quick nod here and there was all I gave as I headed straight for my office. Once inside, I shut the door and sank into my chair behind the large mahogany desk. It didn’t take long for me to bring out my second phone from the drawer. This phone wasn’t listed on the company’s records and was strictly for private matters. Dialing a number, I waited for the call to connect. “Yes, it’s me,” I said when the person picked up. My voice was calm, though I made sure to keep it low. “I’ll be there in the evening as planned.” The conversation was short. I ended the call, placed the phone back in the drawer, and turned my attention to the pile of files on my desk. I opened the first file and scanned its contents. As the company’s manager, I had access to everything, including financial projections. My eyes lit up as I read through the report…a massive amount of money was set to enter the company’s account by the end of the month. The realization hit me hard. This was a fortune, enough to change my life forever. The only problem was Mr. Kenneth’s signature would be needed to finalize the deal. But Mr. Kenneth was still in a coma at the hospital, completely unreachable. A thought crept into my mind, dark and tantalizing. What if I took the money? It was a dangerous idea, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. With Mr. Kenneth out of the picture, there would be no one to suspect me. I leaned back in my chair, a sly smile spreading across my face. “Genius,” I muttered to myself. “No one will ever know.” My moment of self-congratulation was interrupted by the realization that I needed to act carefully. Picking up the phone on my desk, I called for a cabinet meeting. If I was going to pull this off, I had to make sure no one suspected a thing. Within minutes, the boardroom was filled with committee members. The atmosphere was heavy as I addressed them. “I have gathered you all here to discuss an important matter,” I began, keeping my tone serious. “As you know, Mr. Kenneth is still in the hospital and unable to sign any documents. Because of this, I have decided that we cannot proceed with the deal involving the huge incoming funds.” Murmurs of disappointment filled the room. The employees exchanged worried glances, clearly unhappy with my decision. “Unfortunately,” I continued, “without Mr. Kenneth’s approval, we cannot take the risk. It’s in the best interest of the company to put this deal on hold.” “But sir,” the secretary spoke up, holding the file, “this deal could bring immense profit to the company. Are you sure we can’t reconsider?” I shook my head firmly. “The risk is too great. Mr. Kenneth hasn’t fully recovered, and we cannot move forward without his input.” With that, I handed the file back to the secretary. “This contract is not happening for now,” I said, finalizing the discussion. The meeting ended shortly after, and everyone returned to their offices, including me. I couldn’t wait to get back to my desk to plan my next move. No sooner had I sat down than my phone rang. I picked it up, frowning as the screen displayed an unfamiliar number. “Hello?” I answered. The voice on the other end was unmistakable. It was Mr. Jacob. “I want to see you,” he said without preamble. “Meet me at the café near your office. Now.” I hesitated, unsure of what this was about. “I’m in the middle of work…” “If you don’t come now,” he interrupted, “I will expose everything. Every single one of your dirty deeds in this company.” My blood ran cold. What could he possibly know? Before I could respond, he hung up. I stared at the phone for a moment, my mind racing. There was no time to waste. I locked my office and headed for the café, my heart pounding with each step. The café was buzzing with activity when I arrived. I scanned the room, my eyes darting from table to table, searching for him. Finally, I spotted Mr. Jacob seated in a corner, his expression unreadable. I approached cautiously. “Good afternoon, Mr. Jacob,” I said, forcing a smile. “I wasn’t expecting to see you today.” He didn’t return the pleasantries. “I’m not here for small talk,” he snapped. I quickly tried to cover my tracks. “Actually, I was planning to visit you later today…” “Save it,” he interrupted. His voice was sharp, his gaze piercing. “You’d better be glad you came because things are about to get complicated. The police are monitoring me and my family now.” I froze. “Monitoring you? Why?” “That’s not important,” he said dismissively. “What matters is that I know about the money. A huge amount is coming into your company soon.” My eyes widened in shock. How did he know about that? His lips curled into a smirk. “Don’t look so surprised, Max. I know more than you think.” (MR JACOB POV) I watched as Max studied me, his expression cold and calculating. He leaned back slightly, and I could almost hear his thoughts as he regarded me. “He doesn’t know my kind,” I thought, his eyes narrowing. “Dangerous, that’s what I am. And this one isn’t even smart.” His lips twitched as if suppressing a laugh. “Selfish,” he must have concluded, his gaze piercing. “He wants to take the money for himself.” Max finally spoke, his voice calm but firm. “Mr Jacob, let’s work together. Hand in hand.” I hesitated briefly before extending my hand. “Fine.” “Good,” he said, standing. “Leave now. We’ll talk later before anyone gets suspicious.”MAX’S POVI walked briskly toward my office, my mind racing with the conversation I’d just had with Jacob Johnson. His words echoed in my head, a mix of threats and promises that I couldn’t ignore. The nerve of that man! He had made it clear that if I didn’t work with him, he would expose me.“Expose me? How exactly?” I had asked, barely hiding my irritation during our conversation.Jacob’s grin had been smug, his voice dripping with confidence. “Oh, Max, don’t underestimate me. I know all about the underhanded things you’ve been doing at your dear brother Kenneth’s company.”I had flinched at his words, though I tried to mask my reaction. “What are you talking about?”Jacob leaned in, his tone low and threatening. “Don’t play dumb with me. I know about the accounts you’ve tampered with, the deals you’ve manipulated for your own gain. And believe me, I know much more than that.”His words had sent a chill down my spine. I couldn’t afford to have my secrets exposed. Not now, not ever.
MAX POVNadia looked around, her eyes scanning the parking lot to ensure no one was watching. She didn’t notice me observing her from the restaurant window. My pulse quickened as I watched her hold the syringe steady in her hand.“What are you doing, Nadia?” I whispered, my voice barely audible. Before I could process what was happening, Nadia stepped closer to Richard. He had just unlocked his car and was about to open the door when she moved in swiftly. In one quick motion, she jabbed the syringe into the side of his neck.I froze. My breath caught in my throat as I stared in disbelief at the scene unfolding before me.Richard staggered slightly, his hand reaching up to his neck where Nadia had pierced him. His eyes widened in shock as he turned to face her, but whatever was in that syringe seemed to take effect almost instantly.“What the hell is going on?” I thought, my mind racing. My world tilted as I tried to make sense of what I had just witnessed. My fiancée, the woman I thou
MAX POVNadia’s actions didn’t seem like those of someone dealing with a stranger. She knew Richard well enough to approach him without hesitation.“Was she seeing him behind my back?” I muttered to myself, the words leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. The idea gnawed at me, and I began to question everything I thought I knew about Nadia. She had always come across as sweet, innocent, and perfect. But now, I wasn’t so sure.I ran my hand through my hair, frustration building with every second.“Who are you, Nadia?” I whispered, my voice tinged with anger and confusion. “Are you really the woman I thought I knew?”I had to admit, I didn’t know everything about her past. Our relationship had moved quickly, and I hadn’t thought to dig deeper. But now, I couldn’t ignore the nagging feeling that there was more to her than she let on.My thoughts turned back to the estates of hotels she was driving toward. What business could she possibly have there with Richard? The idea of her having a se
NADIA'S POV.As I drove, I glanced at Richard through the rearview mirror. He was slumped against the door, his breathing shallow.“Soon, Richard,” I said softly. “Soon, you’ll understand that you belong to me.”The road to the hotel estate was quiet, and my mind raced with thoughts of what would happen next.My plan was simple but effective. I would frame Richard, make it look like he willingly came to me, and ensure he had no choice but to give in to my demands.By the time I arrived at the hotel, the adrenaline coursing through my veins had reached its peak. I parked the car, checked my surroundings to make sure no one was watching, and got out.I opened the back door, gently pulling Richard into a sitting position. He groaned softly but didn’t resist as I helped him out of the car.“Just a little further,” I whispered, guiding him toward the entrance. The hotel staff didn’t ask any questions as I led him inside. Everything was falling into place perfectly.RICHARD’S POVThe poundi
(MAX’S POV) The meeting ended, but my thoughts were far from settled. Something about Nadia had been gnawing at me, and I couldn’t ignore it any longer. As soon as I stepped out of the boardroom, I pulled out my phone and dialed one of my trusted men. “Listen,” I said curtly, my voice was low but firm, “I need you to do a relationship check on Nadia and Richard Garrison. Dig deep. I want every detail, no matter how small.” “Yes, sir,” he responded without hesitation. I hung up, shoving the phone back into my pocket. I needed answers, and I needed them fast. Before I could even take a breath, my phone buzzed again. I groaned when I saw the caller ID, it was Mr. Jacob. I didn’t have the patience for his antics right now, but ignoring him wasn’t an option. “What is it?” I snapped as I answered. “Max,” he began, his tone tense. “Bring the contract file to my hideout. Now.” I closed my eyes, willing myself to stay calm. “I can’t do that, Mr. Jacob. The file is already
NADIA’S POV I sat on the hotel bed, the soft mattress sinking slightly beneath me. Scattered across the comforter were dozens of photos…memories I had once cherished and now planned to use as weapons. With a sudden burst of excitement, I picked up the pile and tossed them into the air. Watching the pictures flutter down like confetti, I let out a satisfied sigh. Each photo landed on the bed, forming a chaotic collage. Among them lay my camera, the tool that had helped capture Richard Garrison in his most vulnerable moments. "Richard Garrison," I said aloud, my voice laced with determination. "That wedding will not be held." A surge of adrenaline coursed through me as I reached for the phone I had stolen from Max. Repairing it had been a stroke of genius. With it, I could now enact the perfect plan. I opened a discreet social media account and began typing furiously: “Tammie doesn’t love Richard Garrison. He’s nothing more than her puppet.” I smirked at the words on the scr
MR. JACOB’S POV The dim room smelled of old wood and secrets, it's only the faint flicker of a candle on the corner table. I sat back in the creaking chair, my cigarette glowing faintly in the darkness. Opposite me stood a young man, his face barely visible under the dim light, yet the anxiety in his voice was clear. “You understand what I need from you,” I said, my tone firm yet measured. “Bring me that document. No mistakes.” The young man hesitated, shifting on his feet. “Mr. Jacob, it’s not going to be easy. But I’ll… I’ll try my best.” I leaned forward, letting the glow of the cigarette illuminate my face. “Trying isn’t enough. Succeed. Do not disappoint me.” His head dipped low in a bow, a sign of respect…or fear. Either worked for me. Without another word, he turned on his heel and slipped out of the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. For a moment, silence enveloped me, broken only by the faint hum of the building. I puffed out smoke, watching it swirl in
MRS. DANIELLA JOHNSON'S POV The ringing of my phone jolted me out of my thoughts. I glanced at the screen and saw the name of Nadia’s mother. Something about the urgency in her tone when I answered unsettled me. “Daniella, have you seen the latest update online?” she asked, her voice almost trembling with excitement or fear…I couldn’t tell. “Update? What update?” I asked, suddenly wary. “I can’t believe you haven’t seen it. Check your social media right now. It’s about Tammie and Richard. You need to see it,” she said hurriedly. Her words sent a cold chill down my spine. As I ended the call, I turned towards Tammie, who was sitting quietly across the room, and Richard, who had been standing near the window. My instincts told me that they might already know what this was about. Richard’s gaze met mine briefly before he quickly looked away, confirming my suspicion. “What is going on?” I muttered to myself, picking up my phone and opening my social media app. It didn’t
NADIA'S POV.I smirked, setting the phone back down. Everything was moving like clockwork. Now, it was just a matter of waiting for the right moment to strike.I sat back down on the bed, crossing my legs as I allowed myself a moment of satisfaction. Alisha would do her part, whether willingly or not.And if she thought she could outsmart me, well, she’d soon find out just how wrong she was.For now, I had to keep playing the part of the calm, collected puppet master. But inside, the fire of ambition burned hotter than ever. This wasn’t just a plan…it was a masterpiece, and I was the artist. As I leaned back against the pillows, my mind wandered to the moment when everything would come together. The look of shock, of betrayal, of defeat…it would all be worth it.With a final glance at my phone, I closed my eyes, letting a sinister smile linger on my lips. "Eighteen hours," I whispered to myself. "And then it all begins."As I sat in the quiet of my room, my mind betrayed me, wandering
ALISHA'S POV.I rolled my eyes, though I made sure to keep my voice calm. "I was busy, Nadia. You can’t expect me to drop everything every time you call.""Busy?" she snapped. "What could you possibly be doing that’s more important than keeping me updated?"I clenched my jaw, taking a deep breath before responding. "I was in the middle of dinner with Richard. I couldn’t exactly answer your call in front of him, could I?"Nadia’s tone softened slightly, but her impatience was still evident. "Fine. But you need to tell me what’s going on. Have you heard anything new about the wedding?"I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. "No, Nadia. I haven’t heard anything else. And even if I had, do you really think I’d tell you in the middle of dinner?"There was a pause on the other end of the line, and I could almost hear her frustration. "You need to stay on top of this, Alisha," she said finally. "We can’t afford any mistakes.""I know," I replied, my voice clipped. "You don’t have to remin
ALISHA'S POV.I hesitated again, lowering my gaze as though I was embarrassed. "I was just wondering..." I trailed off, biting my lip for effect."Wondering what?" he prompted, his voice patient."If I could come," I said in a rush, my words tumbling over each other."To the wedding, I mean. I promise I won't cause any trouble or anything.I just thought…well, I’d really like to be there. But if you don’t want me to, I understand, and I won’t bring it up again."Richard stared at me for a moment, his expression unreadable. My heart pounded in my chest, though not from fear or nerves. This was the critical moment, the point where I’d see if he’d bend to my request. Finally, he sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Alisha," he said slowly, "why would you even want to come? It’s not exactly a public event."I smiled again, this time letting it tremble slightly. "I don’t know," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "Maybe it’s because you’ve been so kind to me, and I just want to be
RICHARD POV.What could possibly be holding her up?I leaned back in my chair, trying to push away the nagging feeling in my chest. She had been in an accident earlier today, after all.It wasn’t unreasonable to think she might need more time to get ready. Perhaps the pain from her injuries was slowing her down. But then another thought crept in, one I couldn’t shake. What if something’s wrong? The memory of the hospital flashed in my mind…her pale face, the nurses bustling around her, and the soft murmur of their voices as they instructed me on how to care for her.She needs rest and support, they had said. She’s lucky it wasn’t worse.Lucky. That word had stuck with me all day. She was lucky, wasn’t she? It could’ve been much worse. But now, sitting here, waiting for her, I couldn’t help but wonder if I was doing enough. Was she comfortable? Was she in pain? Had she even been able to bathe with the bandages on her arm?I sighed, running a hand through my hair. Maybe I should’ve stay
ALISHA'S POV.The knocking continued, sharp and insistent, pulling me out of my frantic thoughts. I froze, staring at the door, hoping that if I stayed silent long enough, whoever it was might just leave.“Alisha?” Richard’s voice came from the other side, firm and impatient. “Are you alright in there?”I quickly scrambled to pull myself together. “I’m fine!” I called out, my voice a little higher-pitched than I intended. I cleared my throat, trying to sound calmer. “I’m just… just getting dressed.”There was a pause, and I could feel his presence lingering just beyond the door. “Dinner is ready,” he said after a moment. “You should come downstairs and eat something.”“Alright,” I replied, forcing a lightness into my tone. “I’ll be there in a bit.”“I’ll wait for you downstairs,” he said, and I could hear the faint sound of his footsteps retreating down the hallway.I didn’t move until I was sure he was gone. The tension in my shoulders eased, and I let out a long breath, sinking onto
ALISHA'S POVI cut her off. “I’m not going to mess anything up. I’ve got it under control.”“You’d better,” she snapped. “This isn’t just about you, Alisha. Remember that.”Her tone grated on my nerves. She always acted like she was in charge, like I was just some pawn in her grand scheme. But I wasn’t going to let her dictate my life.“I remember,” I said through clenched teeth. “But don’t forget, I’m the one in the mansion right now. I’m the one Richard trusts. So maybe you should ease up on the threats.”There was a pause on the other end, and I smirked, knowing I’d hit a nerve.“Just stick to the plan,” Nadia said finally, her voice cold. “Don’t get any ideas.”“Of course,” I lied smoothly. We ended the call, and I stared at the phone in my hand for a moment before shoving it back into its hiding place.Stick to the plan? I thought with a scoff. The only plan I’m sticking to is mine.I walked over to the vanity and sat down, looking at my reflection in the mirror. I adjusted my ha
MR JACOB POV.Kenneth broke the silence, leaning forward in his seat. “Jacob, you’ve been awfully quiet tonight,” he said with a chuckle. “Are you feeling alright?”I forced a smile, nodding. “I’m fine. Just a bit tired, that’s all.”“Hmm,” Kenneth mused, his gaze lingering on me for a moment before he turned back to Max. “And you, Max? How are you holding up? That was quite the demonstration earlier. I have to admit, I didn’t expect you to eat the apple like that.”Max shrugged, his smile never faltering. “I’m fine. Like I said, I trust myself, and I trust my work. I knew there was nothing to worry about.”Liar.I wanted to call him out, to expose him for the fraud he was. But without proof, without a clear understanding of what had just happened, my words would mean nothing.Kenneth would dismiss me, as he always did, and Max would walk away victorious once again.I glanced around the room, my eyes landing briefly on Nadia. She sat quietly in the corner, her gaze fixed on her hands.
MR JACOB POV.The door creaked shut behind Max as he walked away, leaving me standing at the restroom entrance, completely stunned. My mind raced as I stared at the spot where he had just been. How could he possibly be fine? I had heard him coughing violently from inside. I had seen the blood…there was no mistaking it.I looked down at the faint red smear on the floor near the threshold of the restroom. That was real. I wasn’t imagining things. The blood was fresh, unmistakable evidence that something had happened to him there. So how was he walking away, calm and composed, with that infuriating smirk on his face?“This doesn’t make sense,” I muttered under my breath. I stepped into the restroom, my eyes scanning every corner. The sink was still wet, droplets of water clinging to its surface. The mirror above it was fogged slightly, likely from Max leaning in close as he tried to clean himself up.As I moved further in, my eyes landed on something on the edge of the counter. A tiny bo
TAMMIE POV.I raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “And why would I care about her?”“The woman I came with today was injured by me,” he explained, his tone almost defensive. “I thought you might be wondering who she is.”I shrugged, feigning disinterest. “Not really. But go on, if it’ll make you feel better.”He exhaled, his gaze shifting briefly to the floor. “I met her a few days ago. It wasn’t planned. I... accidentally hit her with my car.”I blinked, taken aback for a moment. “You hit her with your car?”“Yes,” he said quickly. “It was an accident. She was crossing the street, and I didn’t see her in time. She’s been recovering, and I felt responsible. That’s why I brought her here…to keep an eye on her.”I stared at him, my expression carefully neutral. “So you hit a woman with your car, and now she’s your responsibility?”“She doesn’t have anyone else,” he said, his voice softer now. “I just... I didn’t want you to get the wrong idea.”I let out a short, humorless laugh. “The wrong
