MR JACOB POV

If the police were watching me and my family, every step would be scrutinized.

“I understand, Inspector,” I said, keeping my voice calm. “You’re just doing your job.”

She nodded, through her eyes remained suspicious. “Yes, we are. And I’d advise you to be cooperative. Any sign of obstruction or foul play will only make matters worse for you and your family.”

“Of course,” I replied smoothly.

But inside, I was already calculating. If the police were going to keep an eye on me, I’d need a new strategy. There was no way I could visit my hideout without risking exposure. That part of my life had to remain hidden at all costs.

As she gathered her files, I leaned back in my chair, my mind racing. This wasn’t a setback…it was an opportunity. I couldn’t act directly, but I could act through someone else.

That’s when the idea struck me. Max.

A slow smile spread across my face as I thought about him. Max was loyal, but more importantly, he was impressionable. A man like Max didn’t ask questions…he simply did what he was told. He’d make the perfect puppet.

“Yes,” I murmured under my breath, “Max will do nicely.”

“Did you say something?” the inspector asked, looking up from her notes.

I shook my head quickly. “No, just thinking out loud. This whole situation is unsettling, to say the least.”

She studied me for a moment before returning to her papers. “Well, unsettling or not, we’ll get to the bottom of it.”

I nodded, keeping my expression neutral. “I trust you will, Inspector.”

After a few more minutes of silence, she finally looked up at me.

“You’re free to go, Mr. Jacob,” she said, her tone brisk. “But remember…this investigation is ongoing. Don’t think for a second that we’re done here.”

I stood, smoothing my suit jacket. “Of course, Inspector. I appreciate your diligence.”

As I walked out of the station, the weight of the situation settled on my shoulders. The police might think they had the upper hand, but they were playing a game they didn’t even understand.

Max would handle everything for me. And when the dust settled, I’d come out on top…just as I always did.

The police car stopped in front of my mansion. I stepped out, feeling the weight of the day pressing on me.

The car lingered for a moment before driving away, its red and blue lights disappearing into the distance. The realization that we were now under police surveillance gnawed at me, fueling my anger.

I straightened my tie and walked to the large oak doors of my house. The thought of what awaited me inside churned in my mind. My family…all of them…had no idea of the trouble brewing, and it all stemmed from one careless mistake.

Pushing the door open, I entered the grand living room. As expected, they were all there. My four sons, standing tall and concerned, and my only daughter, Anita, sat quietly with my wife at her side. They all turned toward me the moment I stepped in, their faces full of questions.

The air was tense. I didn’t bother with greetings or pleasantries. My gaze landed immediately on my eldest son, Daniel.

Without thinking twice, I strode up to him and slapped him hard across the face. The sharp sound echoed in the room.

The entire family gasped.

“Father!” Daniel exclaimed, holding his cheek, stunned.

“Jacob, what is the meaning of this?” my wife, demanded, rushing to my side.

I pointed a trembling finger at Daniel. “Just a simple job, Daniel! A simple job, and you couldn’t deliver! Now, thanks to your incompetence, the entire family is in trouble!”

Daniel looked at me, his face red with the imprint of my hand. “I… I don’t understand. What are you talking about?”

“You don’t understand?” I yelled, pacing furiously. “The police will now be monitoring us! Do you know what that means? Do you realize the mess you’ve created?”

My wife stepped between us, her calm voice attempting to soothe me. “Jacob, what happened? Please, explain. Why are the police involved?”

I turned to her, my voice still sharp. “Because your son here,” I pointed at Daniel again, “was careless. He left a piece of evidence…a piece that links directly back to us!”

Another gasp filled the room. The younger children looked at Daniel in shock, their faces filled with confusion and fear.

“Evidence? What evidence?” wife pressed, her hand resting on my arm.

“The family necklace,” I spat. “The one with our signature design. He left it behind on the roof where he was supposed to take a shot. And now, the police found it and are connecting it to us!”

Daniel’s face turned pale. “The necklace? No… I didn’t…” He touched his neck instinctively, his fingers brushing against the chain.

His eyes widened as he pulled it out. The family necklace dangled from his hand, the distinctive design catching the light.

“What?!” my wife exclaimed, stepping back in shock.

Everyone else leaned in to get a better look. Anita clutched her brother’s arm, staring at the necklace.

“But…” Daniel stammered, utterly confused. “It’s with me. It’s been with me the whole time. I didn’t leave it anywhere.”

I stopped pacing, staring at the necklace in disbelief. My anger shifted to suspicion. If the necklace was still with him, then how did one identical to it end up at the scene?

My wife broke the silence, her voice trembling. “Jacob, if Daniel still has his necklace, then what’s going on? Who left the other one there?”

I narrowed my eyes, my mind racing. “Someone’s playing a smart game with us,” I said slowly. “Someone planted that necklace to throw the police at our door.”

The room was silent as everyone absorbed my words.

“Who could it be?” I asked, my voice low but heavy with determination. “Who would dare to play such a dangerous game against us?”

MAX’S POVI walked briskly toward my office, my mind racing with the conversation I’d just had with Jacob Johnson. His words echoed in my head, a mix of threats and promises that I couldn’t ignore. The nerve of that man! He had made it clear that if I didn’t work with him, he would expose me.“Expose me? How exactly?” I had asked, barely hiding my irritation during our conversation.Jacob’s grin had been smug, his voice dripping with confidence. “Oh, Max, don’t underestimate me. I know all about the underhanded things you’ve been doing at your dear brother Kenneth’s company.”I had flinched at his words, though I tried to mask my reaction. “What are you talking about?”Jacob leaned in, his tone low and threatening. “Don’t play dumb with me. I know about the accounts you’ve tampered with, the deals you’ve manipulated for your own gain. And believe me, I know much more than that.”His words had sent a chill down my spine. I couldn’t afford to have my secrets exposed. Not now, not ever.

She knew Richard well enough to approach him without hesitation.“Was she seeing him behind my back?” I muttered to myself, the words leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. The idea gnawed at me, and I began to question everything I thought I knew about Nadia. She had always come across as sweet, innocent, and perfect. NADIA'S POV.As I drove, I glanced at Richard through the rearview mirror. He was slumped against the door, his breathing shallow.“Soon, Richard,” I said softly. “Soon, you’ll understand that you belong to me.”The road to the hotel estate was quiet, and my mind raced with thoughts of what would happen next.My plan was simple but effective. I would frame Richard, make it look like he willingly came to me, and ensure he had no choice but to give in to my demands.By the time I arrived at the hotel, the adrenaline coursing through my veins had reached its peak. I parked the car, checked my surroundings to make sure no one was watching, and got out.I opened the back door, gently pulling Richard into a sitting position. (MAX’S POV) The meeting ended, but my thoughts were far from settled. Something about Nadia had been gnawing at me, and I couldn’t ignore it any longer. As soon as I stepped out of the boardroom, I pulled out my phone and dialed one of my trusted men. “Listen,” I said curtly, my voice was low but firm, “I need you to do a relationship check on Nadia and Richard Garrison. Dig deep. I want every detail, no matter how small.” “Yes, sir,” he responded without hesitation. I hung up, shoving the phone back into my pocket. I needed answers, and I needed them fast. Before I could even take a breath, my phone buzzed again. I groaned when I saw the caller ID, it was Mr. Jacob. I didn’t have the patience for his antics right now, but ignoring him wasn’t an option. “What is it?” I snapped as I answered. “Max,” he began, his tone tense. “Bring the contract file to my hideout. Now.” I closed my eyes, willing myself to stay calm. “I can’t do that, Mr. Jacob. The file is already

NADIA’S POV I sat on the hotel bed, the soft mattress sinking slightly beneath me. Scattered across the comforter were dozens of photos…memories I had once cherished and now planned to use as weapons. With a sudden burst of excitement, I picked up the pile and tossed them into the air. Watching the pictures flutter down like confetti, I let out a satisfied sigh. Each photo landed on the bed, forming a chaotic collage. Among them lay my camera, the tool that had helped capture Richard Garrison in his most vulnerable moments. "Richard Garrison," I said aloud, my voice laced with determination. "That wedding will not be held." A surge of adrenaline coursed through me as I reached for the phone I had stolen from Max. Repairing it had been a stroke of genius. With it, I could now enact the perfect plan. I opened a discreet social media account and began typing furiously: “Tammie doesn’t love Richard Garrison. He’s nothing more than her puppet.” I smirked at the words on the scr

MR. JACOB’S POV The dim room smelled of old wood and secrets, it's only the faint flicker of a candle on the corner table. I sat back in the creaking chair, my cigarette glowing faintly in the darkness. Opposite me stood a young man, his face barely visible under the dim light, yet the anxiety in his voice was clear. “You understand what I need from you,” I said, my tone firm yet measured. “Bring me that document. No mistakes.” The young man hesitated, shifting on his feet. “Mr. Jacob, it’s not going to be easy. But I’ll… I’ll try my best.” I leaned forward, letting the glow of the cigarette illuminate my face. “Trying isn’t enough. Succeed. Do not disappoint me.” His head dipped low in a bow, a sign of respect…or fear. Either worked for me. Without another word, he turned on his heel and slipped out of the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. For a moment, silence enveloped me, broken only by the faint hum of the building. "What could you possibly be doing that’s more important than keeping me updated?"I clenched my jaw, taking a deep breath before responding. "I was in the middle of dinner with Richard. I couldn’t exactly answer your call in front of him, could I?"Nadia’s tone softened slightly, but her impatience was still evident. "Fine. But you need to tell me what’s going on. Have you heard anything new about the wedding?"I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. "No, Nadia. I haven’t heard anything else. And even if I had, do you really think I’d tell you in the middle of dinner?"There was a pause on the other end of the line, and I could almost hear her frustration. This was the critical moment, the point where I’d see if he’d bend to my request. Finally, he sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Alisha," he said slowly, "why would you even want to come? I wasn’t imagining things. The blood was fresh, unmistakable evidence that something had happened to him there. So how was he walking away, calm and composed, with that infuriating smirk on his face?“This doesn’t make sense,” I muttered under my breath. But go on, if it’ll make you feel better.”He exhaled, his gaze shifting briefly to the floor. “I met her a few days ago. It wasn’t planned. I... accidentally hit her with my car.”I blinked, taken aback for a moment. “You hit her with your car?”“Yes,” he said quickly. “It was an accident. She was crossing the street, and I didn’t see her in time. She’s been recovering, and I felt responsible. That’s why I brought her here…to keep an eye on her.”I stared at him, my expression carefully neutral. “So you hit a woman with your car, and now she’s your responsibility?”“She doesn’t have anyone else,” he said, his voice softer now. “I just...
