ONE YEAR LATER
"Come on, Pookie-Bear, you know I love you," Cory used his fingers to unbutton Jessica's blouse. His wolf, Curtis, was on edge. He had wanted to do this since the moment he found out Jessica was his mate. "But Cory, I'm not ready," Jessica said as she held onto his wrists to prevent him from unbuttoning her shirt any further. Cory grunted in frustration. His eyes glowed black, showing Jessica that his wolf wasn't pleased. "I am your future alpha, and how dare you refuse me!" He spat through gritted teeth, squeezing her neck while pressing her firmly against the wall of the supply closet. She flinched, the wounds on her back were still raw from the beatings the Luna gave her a few days before. She had forgot to pick up the Luna's dry-cleaning which caused the she-wolf to go berserk. "I-I'm so-sorry," Jessica stuttered. Cory might have been her mate now, but before he treated her just as bad as his mother. She remembered the many times where he tripped her or pulled her hair, dragging her over the floor. A pang of pain crippled her heart as she thought about that, but she quickly removed them from her mind. None of his previous abuse mattered. Cory was her mate now and he loved her, even though he had never said it, but his actions behind these closed doors told Jessica all she needed to know. Plus he apologized about a million times for the way that he'd treated her in the past and she had forgiven him. How could she not? He was chosen for her by the great Moon Goddess. Cory observed the fear reflected in Jessica's eyes, and he could taste and smell it lingering in the air. He relaxed, letting go of her throat and burying his nose in the curve of her neck. "Pookie, it's just that you make me so horny. I want to have sex with you so badly and I feel you don't really love me." "Don't say that, Cory," Jessica began. "I love you so much, my heart can't contain it. It's just that I always dreamed of being properly marked by my mate before I have sex, plus we found out we are destined mates three weeks ago, and you still haven't told your parents." Cory celebrated his eighteenth moonday a few weeks ago and on the night of his celebration, he found out Jessica was who the Moon Goddess had chosen for him. "The Alpha and Luna have been busy with rogue attacks and gathering food for the winter, so I haven't had the opportunity to tell them as yet, but I will over the Christmas holiday," he explained with a wide grin on his face. "Do you promise?" Jessica bit her lip, her eyes pooling with tears. "I promise, my mate," Cory peppered her neck with kisses, squeezing on her breasts and pressing his hard member against her thigh. "You are the most beautiful mate in the whole wide world." "You don't have to say things you don't mean," Jessica blushed. "Look at me," he used his fingers to angle her face so he could look into her eyes. "I mean every word. I always thought you are beautiful, even before I knew you were my mate. I just can't wait to tell everyone so we can be a family." Jessica's heart fluttered with joy and happiness. She yearned for a family and a place to call home. Her parents died when she was just five years old and even though the Luna took her in, she became a slave to her and not really her daughter. She missed her parents so much. Her father, Steven was an ordinary wolf, a skilled farmer and a famous storyteller. Even though he was an omega, wolves of all ranks loved to hear him tell his fairytales. There was just something magical about his gravelly voice and tranquil tone that could put anybody in a trance. Her mother, Lisa served as the head maid for the Luna. They maintained a close relationship, but the Luna constantly felt jealous of the omega's attractiveness and was uncomfortable with how her Alpha husband would always look at the pretty omega. Jessica's mother had the voice of an angel and would sing for the alpha every night at supper. Everyone in the pack knew the alpha secretly had a crush on Lisa, and he was devastated after she was killed. After the couple's deaths, Jessica had no more family and out of courtesy the Luna decided to raise the orphan girl. But when Jessica turned thirteen and her features began to resemble her mother's, the Luna couldn’t bear to see her parading around her husband, so she sent the girl to go live in the barn with the farm animals and that was where she had been staying for the last four and a half years. But soon this would all change, now that Cory Graceland, future alpha and son of the alpha and luna of the Graceland Pack was her mate. Jessica truly believed that Cory would save her from sleeping out in the barns with the animals and their filth. She felt it in her heart, that her mate would rescue her from the tauntings of her superiors and sure enough his mother and sisters would have to stop beating her since she would be their future Luna. For the first time since her parents died, young Jessica had hope; hope in her mate and hope in the Moon Goddess."My prince," Theodore dropped to his knees, his voice trembling with awe. "It's an honor to meet you. I can't believe I met your father, and now... I'm meeting you."Lazarus blinked, clearly surprised. "You met my father?""Yes," Theo nodded quickly. "We stopped at the Vanderwolf mansion for the Alpha's help in finding Mystic Mountain, and he showed up. He was looking for you. He said you took something that belonged to your stepmother."Lazarus growled low in his throat, a sharp sound that sent shivers down everyone's spine. "So he knows I took the Book of the Gods... Damn him. Did he say anything else?""Not really," Theodore answered. "Only that you left with werewolves and a human.""So that means the Alpha knows we're traveling with a bloodsucker," said a broad-shouldered young man from the far corner of the room. His voice was gruff, but there was a spark of mischief in his eyes. "I'm Valko, the son of the Beta from the Howling Cliffs pack. This here is my sister, Velma, and our
After hours of hiking through the magical forest, the group finally reached the top of Mystic Mountain, and they were worn out. Their bodies ached, their stomachs growled, and even the adrenaline that had fueled their journey so far was starting to wear thin. The once-glowing candy skies had darkened into deep violet. The enchanted beauty around them, while still mesmerizing, was now cloaked in shadow.Every step felt heavier."Remind me again why we didn't pack snacks," Falcon groaned, dragging his feet. "I'm starving.""Didn't you eat enough chocolate dirt and candy clouds?" Theo snapped."I don't think all that forest junk food counts," Falcon muttered."Look," Cameron said suddenly, lifting his arm and pointing ahead. "There's a cabin up ahead.""That must be Opal's place," DJ said, relief evident in his voice. “It’s older than I expected.” "Who cares?" Falcon sighed dramatically. "I just wanna kick these boots off. I really need a foot rub."The group moved forward, but their pa
"So... how did she taste?" Cameron asked, breaking the silence with a sly grin.DJ shot him a look. "Please. Don't start.""Come on," Cam smirked, nudging his shoulder. "We're all friends here."DJ groaned. "Honestly? Salty," he muttered, shaking his head.Falcon burst out laughing. "She tasted exactly how she acts. Salty.”Even Theodore cracked a grin, his normally serious expression softening. Their laughter echoed off the glistening cave walls as they trekked forward, still damp from their dive through the mermaid's secret entrance.Mishell's kiss had unlocked a secret door under the cave that pulled them into the depths when they plunged in. They swam for barely a minute before they emerged inside what felt like the belly of the world. The cave was warm, thick with a soft golden mist that clung to their skin like silk.Everything was eerily silent. No echoes. No dripping water. Just... warmth."Something smells sweet," Theo said suddenly, his vampire senses flaring.DJ sniffed the
They woke just before sunrise, the horizon still wearing a blanket of fog. With the wind nipping at their faces and clouds looming above like a warning, Cameron, DJ, Falcon, and Theodore took off at full speed, tearing across the rugged terrain toward their next destination... The Whistling Cave. The world around them was eerie and quiet, except for the occasional distant crackle of thunder. The air tasted like sea salt and static. There was definitely a storm coming. After racing for nearly an hour, they skidded to a halt just shy of a steep cliff. The sound hit them first, an echo so deafening, it vibrated their skulls. They clutched at their ears as the unnatural screeching reverberated from below."The cave is whistling alright," Cameron said, gulping hard as his eyes watered from the noise.Theo crept to the cliff's edge, his vampiric senses zeroing in on a strange vibration. He motioned for the others. Below, nestled into the jagged cliffs like the gaping mouth of a sea monster,
The vampire king had barely vanished into the mist when Cameron and the others prepared to set out. The rising tension left a crackling charge in the air, like lightning just waiting for a place to strike."We have to go now, Alpha. Thanks for everything, and I hope you find your son soon," Cameron said sincerely."Thank you," Nolan replied with a brief nod, his gray eyes still trailing after the space where Dracula had stood."We'll keep an eye out," DJ added. "Maybe we'll run into them on the way."They exchanged brief farewells, and without another word, the four left the Vanderwolf estate behind. The world beyond the pack mansion grew dense and alive, the trees towering like ancient sentinels. Their path twisted deeper into Wolffang Woods, guided only by the map Nolan had given them earlier. The forest thickened quickly, the sunlight dimming behind thick canopies of pine and maple.Falcon groaned as he stumbled over a root. "I can't believe I had to leave my suitcase of goodies be
The sun barely kissed the horizon as Alpha Nolan and Luna Peaches stood proudly at the front gates of the pack mansion, preparing to bid farewell to their guests. Their beta, Valor, and his elegant mate stood beside them, offering supportive smiles and well wishes.Everything was going smoothly until the sound of boots on gravel interrupted the calm."Howdy, neighbor!" a loud, cheery voice rang out.Nolan turned, instantly recognizing the pudgy, red-faced human man huffing toward them from the guest house. Paul, his overly friendly human neighbor, who always smelled of expensive cologne and cookies, waddled over, waving."Paul," Nolan nodded, masking his irritation with forced civility. "Something I can help you with?"Paul rubbed the back of his neck, awkwardly glancing at Peaches before speaking. "Yeah, I was wondering if you've heard from the kids. Melissa and I haven't heard a peep from Miranda. All her calls are going straight to voicemail. It's been three days. Shouldn't they be
