"Mum, for the hundredth time, I'm fine," I said, leaving the living room to join Dad in the dining area.

Mum followed me, a cup of hot tea in her hands. "Ada, I know what you're going through. But you have to understand I need to know you're in control of your powers and, more importantly, that you're fine."

"Mum, I've told you that Tyler has been helping me via text messages online," I let out, noticing Dad's attention left the sports article he was reading on his tablet as he looked at me.

Dad didn't like that I chose to get help from Tyler instead of him and Mum. It had been about a week since we left the cabin and went to our respective homes. I was going to leave the house in two days to head back to my flat in the city.

"Have some tea," Mum said, handing the cup to me.

"Mum, I have already had this in the morning."

"Sweetheart, it's herbal tea," she said. "You can never have too much. Ask anyone."

I downed the tea in two gulps and handed the cup back to her. "Anything else?"

ADA"I don't need you to get yourself all worked up before dinner," Grandma said, helping to set a hat on to her husband’s head.Grandma had always been like this whenever Grandpa wanted to go to the football stadium. You see, they had many common interests, but football just wasn't one of them."We will be back long before dinner," Grandpa said, putting a final check on his wristwatch before stepping out of the house.Today promised to be a good day. It was Grandpa's birthday, and we weren't planning on having a big celebration. Grandma was just going to make dinner, and that was all. Johnny and two of Grandpa's friends, both of which were werewolves, were the only guests we would have."We will crush them," Grandpa said as we drove. "Yes, they have a new coach, but he really can't do much with that team of theirs.""Of course," I agreed.Normally, Johnny would come with us whenever we went to see a football match, but today he had something important to do at the bank.Ever since we

TYLER“I say we ambush him at once,” Grandpa whispered. “He wouldn't even know how to defend himself.”“Okay, sounds about fine,” Johnny agreed. “So we go now?”You know what? Grandpa's idea wasn't bad at all. There were six of us at this table. Six werewolves versus one Xiray. Against a regular Xiray, there would be no fight. We would claw it down in an instant. But there was something they hadn’t all noticed. The man before them wasn't a regular Xiray. For one, he was composed. Xirays were always disoriented around werewolves, with only the desire to kill them. This one seemed too calm for someone standing before six supernaturally powerful beings. Presently, he was unwrapping a piece of gum, barely paying attention to us.Also, he was still in human form. When close to werewolves, a Xiray couldn't keep up the facade of having a human form. They kept slipping in and out of it. This wasn't happening to him.“No, we must not do that,” I asserted. “We do it as we have always done in th

ADAPeace and quiet. That was all I felt at the moment. Once again, I had one of those dreams where I knew I was unconscious, yet the realism of it all arrested me.I found myself in what appeared to be a magical garden, bathed in sunshine, filled with colourful blooms all around me. Amongst the other flowers, the sunflowers stood out from the rest, all standing proud yet peaceful. Their yellow petals were broad and cheerful, and I chose to see them as the perfect embodiment of summer itself. Even though I knew I was asleep, I wouldn't have minded staying there for a while."Oh dear!" I exclaimed, my face lighting up as I saw butterflies move around. The garden itself was alive, with the fluttering of butterfly wings. Their bright colours and graceful movements left me awestruck with childlike wonder. I crouched and looked closer as the butterflies perched on the flowers. It seemed as though even they knew the sunflowers were particularly beautiful. Every time a butterfly landed on a

TYLER"We are not safe here," Grandpa yelled as he ate breakfast, "and we are not safe anywhere else.""Shouting will not help you," Grandma said."Well, it's easy for you to say; you're not the one with a missing eye," Grandpa retorted.Grandma looked squarely at him, the fork in her hands dropping into the plate. "Are you forgetting that your own friend died here? He came to celebrate your life and then lost his own. Look, I get that you're sad, and that's only expected. You were hurt, and this might hurt to hear, but at least you're alive. Billy would have loved to be in your shoes and not buried in the woods."Grandpa kept quiet and continued eating his meal. As you would expect, everyone was still quite shaken after what happened on Grandpa's birthday. Every sound I heard made me jump. Even now, I was terrified because we didn't know what he was going to do next. After breakfast, we all kept to ourselves for a while, no one really saying anything to each other. Until Grandpa star

ETHANIt was yet another day, and the familiar haunting presence of my nightmares continued to linger even while I slept soundly wrapped in Brent's arms. It was always comforting having him beside me as I slept but even this didn't completely ease the fear and anxiety I felt."Johnny will come and see you," Tyler had promised over the phone. "He will explain everything to you, I promise."I knew I shouldn't get my hopes up, but the thought of finally understanding what was happening gave me a glimmer of hope. It was clear that I had gotten myself involved in something that I didn't fully comprehend, and the uncertainty was driving me insane. The morning sunlight illuminated the signboard of the bookstore, casting a warm glow upon the street outside. I took a deep breath, feeling proud of how the store looked and the warm atmosphere it provided. The scent of freshly brewed coffee was in the air, mingling with the sound of customers quietly flipping through pages, and their occasional h

ETHAN "Okay then," he started, "well, I guess I could begin by telling you that I'm not human."I adjusted in my seat, sitting up straight. "So you're telling me you're not human. You have got to be kidding me. Is this a joke or something?"He lowered his head so our eye levels matched. "Based on everything that has happened to you in the last few weeks, do you think I'm joking?"I swallowed hard, looking away. "I apologise. Please continue, if you don't mind."Look, don't get me wrong, I suspected that Johnny and Tyler weren't human based on everything Acelia said. But I swear there was nothing that could have prepared me to hear someone, speaking in a calm serious tone, telling me they weren't human. It was beyond crazy. Because he wasn't joking, it felt like I myself had lost touch with reality and was losing my mind."Hey," Johnny let out, placing a hand on mine on the table, "it will all be fine."Despite feeling scared, I couldn't help but notice his touch was kind, as though s

ADAI arrived in the city yesterday afternoon. Until a few hours before leaving my parents' house, I wasn't sure if I wanted to come. But now, I feel like I needed the space, badly."Staying in the apartment by yourself doesn’t seem smart," Mum said when I told her I was leaving. Both her and Dad were against me leaving. They felt we had to stick together, but I didn't know if we "had to." If we learned anything from what happened at Tyler's home, it's that staying together doesn't guarantee our safety. Besides, I need the space to get my mental health in order. At 9 am, I was headed to the office to pack my things. "This is going to be hard," I muttered as I crossed the threshold of the building. I walked into the building, inhaling deeply to steady my nerves. This marked the end of my journey at this office. Today, I would say my final farewell to the job and, in more than one way, the life I once knew. Then it hit me, a strong and compelling feeling.I knew coming to this office w

TYLER“So that's what happened, and it's weird,” Johnny said as we walked. “I just wasn't feeling it. She had a fire body, but something wasn't clicking for me.”“Hmm,” I voiced, walking up to his side, “so how did she take it?”“What do you think? She was utterly disappointed.”“Can’t blame her, can we? I would be too.”Johnny looked at me and sighed. “Sometimes I wonder why I tell you anything. You're never on my side.”“Still doesn't stop you from telling me more, does it?”One of the downsides of having a best friend was that they confided in you all their thoughts and secrets. Today, Johnny was telling me about his sexual encounter with a girl last night, which, mind you, the girl found quite underwhelming. As I walked alongside Johnny in the woods, with dappled sunlight filtering through the green canopy of towering trees overhead, I marveled at the beauty of nature that surrounded us. Usually, we would come out in the woods to change, but today we had decided to roam the woods

ETHAN****Three Weeks Later****Today was the day.It has been months and months of craziness. Ever since Ms Granger sent me to give Tyler that gift, my life has turned upside down. I mean, I have met great people but I wouldn't have minded meeting them under different circumstances. But, at least, it was all going to end now. Pascelina, as crazy as that hag was, had somehow made us believe that it wasn't such a ridiculous idea to go against Acelia. There were thousands and thousands of werewolves who would go against Acelia today. Pascelina had got weapon spelled by a witch that worked with the werewolves. Even more impressive, the witch has tracked Acelia to be deep in a forest a few kilometres from her.If everything went well, Acelia would die tonight, and if we were lucky, we would take down Alex, if he was with her. Now, all we had to do was take our weapons and go after her.Damn. I couldn't imagine actually being free of Acelia and th

ADAI think I've got it now. I think I understood why Mum told me that werewolves found the forest as a home. There was this peace and quiet that I got here, nothing else quite provided. "You know you're quite lucky, don't you?" Tyler said to me, speedily climbing up a tree, sitting comfortably on one of its big branches. Seeing him gesture for me to join, I ran up the tree, my immense speed and agility allowed me to climb really fast. As I drew closer to him, I questioned, "How so?"He pushed my hair behind my ear so it wouldn't cover my face. "Other werewolves go through serious pain when changing, and they have to change once a month unless they can't stay in their human form. But us Green Eyes, we're super lucky, aren't we?"I shook my head, making a funny face at him. "The one time I changed, well, let's just say I didn't feel very lucky. Tyler, it hurt like hell.""That's because

ETHANWhen I regained consciousness, I found myself in a huge water tank, and water was rushing in from two holes. As it stood, it was already up to my knees. "What are you doing?" I yelled out, screaming at the top of my voice. "Let me out. What's this about?"When Mrs Conan spoke, her voice was calm and gentle, her word spoken without haste, as though nothing was wrong. "Ethan, I'm not going to repeat myself, so don't bother wasting your time shouting. No one lives around here and you know it. If you want to get out, well, no one's stopping you."What the heck was wrong with this woman?"Mrs Conan, I can't transport myself out of here. I believe I told you this already. Please let me out."She didn't say anything. Not even a goddamn word.I kept screaming, at least, while I could because the water was already above my waistline. I kept shouting, banging and banging, but she didn't come to help.

ETHANThe day started well. And that made me feel really good because yesterday wasn't the best of days. Mrs Conan, being of the opinion that I might have to save all of us if Acelia proves to be too strong for us. Now, this didn't only make me so nervous because I didn't want to have that on my shoulders. Traveller or whatnot, I just wanted all this behind me.The good part was that she told me that there was no need to tell anyone about it so they wouldn't depend on me if things don't go well."Good morning," I muttered, joining Mum and Brent in the living room as they watched one of our favourite shows. "I see you both are watching it without me.""You know you sleep deeper than some bears," Mum quipped, her gaze still on the screen. "There is never any point to try waking you up."Brent drew closer to me, he and Mum exchanging glances before he spoke. "Uh… Ethan, I would like to take you somewhere next week.

ADA I had changed. I knew it and, if I was being honest, I didn't care. Right now, I was standing at the train station waiting for my parents to arrive. I just knew that they would have long faces when I saw them. You see, yesterday I told them about Pascelina’s decision. And like every person with a healthy cerebrum, they were utterly shaken and scared. Also, they thought Pascelina was ‘a stupid, conceited bitch.' Dad's words, not mine, though I couldn't agree more. Regardless of what they felt, for reasons I could never comprehend, the majority of werewolves worldwide were supportive of Pascelina's decision, even to the point that nearly every bloody werewolf in the world was going to join her. She told us to give her some weeks so she could track down every werewolf— or at least try— and make them support her ludicrous decision. The support she has gotten so far from the werewolf community made me begin to wonder if most of these werewolves had the brain of a dog because they

ETHANAfter the long exhausting monologue Pascelina gave— apart from the chanting dunces she brought with her— no one was happy. And we were quite exhausted. And quite broken. Don't get it wrong— we didn't have a plan. I mean, we did, but it was a bloody crazy one, but at least, it wasn't stupid and suicidal. Now, despite it being all my life has been about for months now, I couldn't say I was an expert in the supernatural business. Hell, I didn't even understand my own powers, but even I knew it was unimaginably stupid to fight someone who had conquered death.“This is just a mess,” Ada let out, frowning. “This old woman really believes we will take down Acelia by crowding her.”“She did talk about some weapons some witch would make for them,” I said, shrugging. “Who knows? Perhaps it might all work out.”Ada exhaled noisily before she spoke. “True, but I highly doubt it would be because of some fancy weapon they get from any witch. I mean, if this could be done, why hasn't she bee

TYLERIt is very hard to see someone take a bold but stupid step. It's even worse when such decisions affect you too.I knew people like Pascelina; tough as a nail but have minds that are so narrow they fail to see anything other than what they think is right. As of now, she was talking about how we would fight Acelia. How we would show them what we are made of.My goodness. This woman was leading us to our bloody deaths and they were all cheering for her as though she was some bloody hero."As some of you may already know, we have a witch of our own," Pascelina shouted out, her frail voice echoing in the forest. "This witch will help us create weapons that will aid us in winning this battle. But don't get it twisted, we are the ones doing the fighting. The gun doesn't win the battle; men do that." She took a pause, looking around her, pride brimming in her whole being. "The werewolf is the embodiment of utter impeccability. From the way we change, to our abilities, to our strengths—

ADA"When they said some people were coming to speak to us, I wasn't thinking fifty bloody werewolves," Ethan whispered to me, looking at the werewolves that had come to speak with us."Sixty-three, to be precise," I replied, leaning onto Ethan's arm for support. It was beyond comprehension why they insisted on gathering us in the middle of the woods. Absolutely bonkers, if you ask me."We have convened in this untamed wilderness for a reason," declared an old woman, her voice booming across the clearing. "Now that we are all present, it is time to commence this meeting."Apart from the old woman, who appeared to be the oldest werewolf, there were about eight other elderly ones; the rest were younger adults, mostly men, all appearing to be under the age of thirty-five.Darrel joined the woman in the middle of the circle we had now formed. "This woman here," he said, pointing to Clara, "and this young man," he let out, now pointing to me, "are the only ones amongst us who aren't werewo

ADABefore noon tomorrow, we would know what our fates will be. Of course, none of us have hopes high because we knew one thing quite well— the other werewolves will want to take matters into their own hands. Besides, how successful have we been? How close were we in finding a solution to the threat against our existence? But deep down in each and every one of us, we were aware that our way was the most effective in putting an end to whatever Acelia has planned for us. The predicament we faced was how to convey this to the others."Ada, did you reach out to Ethan?" Mrs. Conan enquired. "It's important that he arrives early because Clara seems to have more trust in him than in the rest of us.""Yes, I did," I assured her, settling into the brown rocking chair on the porch. "Please, don't concern yourself about it. He will definitely be there on time. He knows just how important this is."Tyler sat in silence just before me and I noticed he was quite at unease. "Tyler, spit it out," Mr
