Chapter 7

Attorney Collins is confident in his case as he always do.

Sapul at walang mintis.

He can attract the culprit just using his logical mind. Without giving them the chance to notice what he is up to.

He can play a game without being involved. He was just simply controlling their minds.

He is watching them.

He is good at that.

Even if he is not actually involved in the game, he can still foresee each opponent's next move and the outcome of the game even before it ended.

They were just talking in circle.

Mr. Meldred Luis might be the killer or just a victim of wrong accusation.

It is either a framed-up incident or self-will ay hindi na problema, sapagkat may naaninag na itong kaunting liwanag.

So the last time they cleaned the victim's room is the day before the incident happened.

The last time they delivered food is the same day before  the incident happened.

Without leaving anyone behind.

They met technical problems.

As he listened to their testimony, a conclusion was made up.

The incident is not a stealing incident.

It was a murder. Someone killed him—intentionally.

The only problem is the evidence that their opponent holds.

They found his fingerprint in the baseball bat, na siyang ginamit pampalo sa biktima. Leaving the victim unconscious.

It became clear to him.

The case.

Mr. Meldred Luis.

The victim.

The crime the culprit commit.

Everything.

It was all planned out.

Mr. Meldred Luis was framed-up.

But he cannot conclude that Mr. Meldred Luis is innocent.

He might be someone who urged the culprit to do the crime. Or someone who is an accessory to the crime.

He knows the victim's whereabouts and its schedule.

An idea suddenly popped up in his mind.

'Great!' he exclaimed mentally.

If there is no such copies of CCTV footage the day of the incident, which is suspicious. Then he just need to find a witness. Someone who parked their car in front of the building. He need to check there dash cam.

He walked towards the nearest store and asked if they can checked their CCTV footage on the day of the incident.

Thankfully, they still have a copy. They allowed him after knowing that he is an attorney for that case and the CCTV footage can help them solved the crime.

When the door of the room closed, attorney Collins settled himself in a swivel chair.

Ni-replay niya ang video around 2 to 3  pm.

He smirked.

The culprit failed to get rid all the evidence as what it did to the copy of CCTV footage of the building.

Indeed. There is no such thing as a perfect crime.

May koneksiyon at mapera. Ngunit hindi nito maitatago ang katotohanan.

The justice will surely prevail and the truth will be uncovered.

White car with a plate number of "KYB 6421" caught his attention.

He called someone and asked to trace the owner of the white car. Given the plate number, mas mapapabilis ang kanilang paghahanap. He asked the person to send him the details right away. The person on the other line nodded and assured him.

A man wore a business suit.

But no to avail.

The man in black suit is a tall man. Perhaps, a businessman. Malinis itong tingnan.

But despite his perfect-like appearance, his action and movements at the moment caught attorney Collins' attention.

He is so obvious!

Masiyado siyang tense. Natataranta. Palinga-linga. Hindi mapakali.

Attorney Collins smirked triumphantly.

On cue, he got a notification. He received a message.

They successfully traced the owner of the car.

He immediately dial the number they sent to him.

"This is attorney Grey Collins... By any chance, is this Mr. Jay Ramirez's phone?" tanong pabalik nito ng mahimigan na boses bata ang sumagot.

"Yes po. Opo. He is my father.

Attorney Grey Collins nodded.

"I see. Can you do me a favor?" magalang at mahinahon na tanong nito sa bata.

"Sure thing po. Ano po 'yon?" sagot ng bata.

"Can you tell your father to call me back as soon as he arrives?"

"Noted po. I'll make sure to relay that."

"Thank you. I'll be waiting. I'm hanging up then," huling sagot nito bago pinatay ang tawag.

For evidence purposes.

They aren't aware that such incident happened that day. The media hide the information from the public. Walang nag-ingay.

That man behind the crime is indeed powerful. It holds a lot of connections. And it also has a strong sense of authority.

Kaya niyang kontrolin ang media. Kaya niyang patahimikin ang mga ito. Kaya siguro walang kahit anong artikulo ang lumabas. It is quite amusing. Whoever he is, surely knows a lot of wicked things.

"Attorney Collins, speaking," pagpapakila nito.

"Good afternoon po, attorney.

"Give me a minute, maghahanap lang ako ng masisilungan. Don't hang up the call," pagpapaalam nito sa kausap.

He needs to gather evidences, the sooner the better.

He was being invited by the shop owner awhile ago, but he refused. Saying that he is still full, where in fact, he is really starving.

"Hello. Still there?" pagtatanong nito sa kausap.

"Yes, attorney.

"No need to be nervous. May kailangan lang akong kumpirmahin. Do you still have a record of your car's dash cam footage around 2 to 3 pm last monday?" mahinang saad nito.

"Why would I trust you?" nag-aalangang tanong nito.

"I'm an attorney of the said case. And my client was framed-up. And the only way for him to escaped the wrong accusation is to present a strong evidence to support our claims. I hope you can help me. I can guarantee your safety. If you think I can do you harm. Feel free to invite in your advantage. Where do you want us to meet?"

By that, attorney Collins successfully convinced and earned Mr. Ramirez's trust.

Their talk went smoothly.

They decided to meet in an one of the italian restaurant. They reserve a private room for two. Attorney Collins assured Mr. Ramirez that their conversation will remain confidential and his name will never be revealed in any means for its own safety.

"Yes. You must be Mr. Jay Ramirez, am I right?" balik na tanong nito sa kausap.

Mr. Jay Ramirez nodded.

Inilahad niya ang kaniyang kanang kamay habang nasa likod niya ang kabilang kamay. "Nice to meet you,"he said. Extending his hand for a handshake.

Mr. Jay Ramirez took attorney's hand and hold it firmly before letting it go.

"Please, have a seat," pagpapatuloy ni attorney Collins.

They settled themselves comfortably in their seats.

Until attorney Collins broke the silence. Tumikhim muna ito bago nagsalita.

"So...what do you want to order? Choose anything you want. Let me take care of the bill."

Another minutes of silence.

Attorney Collins press the bell button to summoned the waiter. When the waiter came, they just state their orders.

"December 21, 2020 at around 2 to 3 pm. An incident happened at 5th Avenue, Elinem Street, Johnson Building. Room 041, leaving the victim unconscious. Fortunately, he is still alive but he fell into a coma. There is no CCTV footage. They faced technical problem. Which is very unusual.

"Someone got rid of the evidences before the authority take a hold of it. They are dirty players. Fortunately, I saw your car parked in front of that building. Giving us a chance and high probability to see the face of the culprit —up close. We need your cooperation Mr. Ramirez. It will give us the upper hand if you help us," seryosong saad ni attorney Collins.

Mr. Ramirez nodded his understandingly. A sign that he will help them solve the case.

He took out something from his pants and handed the micro memory card. It contains the CCTV footage they needed.

"I still have a copy of it. In case, you will manipulate the evidence," sagot nito sa malalim na boses.

Attorney Collins' lips formed a small smile. The man he is talking to right now is no joke. He can trust him, he thought.

This man cannot be easily manipulated. The society needs someone like him. Someone who is after for justice.

"You can count on me. I work for justice and it is my job to put everything in justice. I will use it solely for the case. You do not need to worry, Mr. Ramirez," he assured.

Mr. Ramirez nodded again.

They watched the footage that was caught on Mr. Ramirez's dash cam.

As expected, kita rito ang pagpasok ng  lalaki. They forwarded the video, the guy went out at approximately more than an hour.

Malinaw at madaling tukuyin.

"Great! We got it!" masayang tugon ni attorney Collins sa kausap.

"We just have to identify who that person is. Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Ramirez," he added.

"My pleasure. Win the case, attorney," Mr. Ramirez responded.

"I will."

Indeed. He can run but he cannot hide. The truth will chased after him.

Time to catch the real culprit!
