CHAPTER 1
Molly:
Flashback (Earlier today)
“Don’t be afraid, Molly; I’ll be there to pick you up tomorrow. Do it right now and you’ll be free!” Kate, my best friend, said this as she held my hands and wiped my tears away.
It was just our suspicions at first, but we had just watched a clip from a camera I had hidden in the room I shared with my fiancé.
“Kate, my stepfather will kill me; you know how much this wedding means to him,” I said as I tried to stop her from wiping away the tears welling up in my eyes.
“The ball is in your court; either liberate yourself now or suffer in silence for the rest of your life!” Kate said.
End of flashback Kate’s last words rang in my ears as I held the hard drive containing footage of my fiancé and his lover. He lied to me, and he pretended my stepfather was the devil for selling me to him.
It was the night before my wedding to Bruno Mendez, L. A’s most powerful businessman. Instead of getting enough rest for tomorrow, I was in the beautifully decorated room where the wedding was to take place. He had spent a lot of money on this wedding and had invited many important dignitaries from all over the world.
My heart was racing as I unplugged the hard drive and replaced it with the one I had. Bruno’s career would be destroyed in a matter of hours, and I was torn between the fact that I couldn’t wait and the fact that I was terrified.
“Please help me, God,” I mumbled as I wiped away a tear from my eyes. Then I exited the room and returned to the room I shared with my fiancé.
As I stood there staring at him, the rage in my heart grew. I wanted to pull out a knife and stab him several times, but I couldn’t because I’d just rot in jail. My only option was to humiliate him.
I climbed into bed and turned away from him, but he slipped his hands around my waist and drew me closer to him. My stomach tightened in disgust as I remembered the content of the footage.
“Where did you go?” Bruno asked in a whisper, and then I swallowed hard.
“I..I got thirsty, so I went to get water and ended up getting milk,” I lied, turning around to face him with a smile on my face.
“Tomorrow is your big day, and you’ll be Mrs. Mendez,” he said hoarsely. “I love you,” he said, cupping my face as his deceiving eyes glowed in the darkness.
I couldn’t say those words back because they made me sick. He then kissed me and drew me in. I had many questions I wanted to ask him, like why he lied and why he was unfaithful, but I kept quiet and sobbed in silence while Bruno fell asleep peacefully.
****
It was the morning of my wedding, and I sat in front of the large dresser where the head maid, Brittany, was doing my makeup. She was a slim woman with chestnut-brown hair. I hadn’t seen her smile since I moved in, and she barely spoke.
“Ouch!” I yelled when she lifted a portion of my hair to run a comb through it. I didn’t see the point in all of this when the wedding wasn’t even going to happen. Plus, I was growing impatient with everything that was going on.
“I’m sorry, ma’am,” she said, her face solemn. Then I took the comb from her and ran it through my hair briefly.
“There!” I told her.
After that, I took my phone from the table and checked the time. It was five minutes to nine o’clock, and the time for the video was nine. The video was supposed to play for ten minutes before the wedding started.
I immediately coughed and smacked my chest.
“Are you all right, ma’am?” Brittany inquired, her brows knitted, and the corners of her lips were drawn down. Then she kept rubbing my back, but I didn’t stop.
“Please get me some water,” I said, and she dashed out the door.
I immediately stood up and opened the curtains, and then I saw Kate’s car pull up, just as she had promised. This gave me a glimmer of hope, and my heart lightened at the thought that I was making a mistake.
This made way for the desire for vengeance, and as it engulfed me completely, I felt the corners of my lips raise. I exhaled deeply and exited the room. To avoid missing Bruno and my stepfather’s expressions, I tiptoed past Brittany to the wedding room.
“I know you’ve all been waiting to see the beautiful bride, but before that, we’d like to show you a brief clip about Mr. Mendez’s share policy,” the MC said, and I cackled.
“Eye for an Eye,” I muttered with a feeling of satisfaction as the video was about to be played. They had pushed me past the wall and stripped me of my innocence till I felt nothing. I peered into the room, and the MC pressed play, displaying a video of Bruno naked with his lover on the screen. In that moment, Bruno walked in through the door in front of the hall, and I watched him spark up like a fire dazed with gasoline.
“Mother of Mercy!” someone yelled, and everyone murmured.
“Who did this?” Bruno growled, and the MC struggled to turn off the video.
When our gazes met, he noticed the sinister smile on my face. He gave me a death glare, and I took to my heels.
On my way down the long corridor, I knocked down the tall wine glass tower that was being moved into the room, and its contents spilled on my clothes.
“I’m sorry!” I exclaimed.
I dashed to the bottom of the stairs, and someone grabbed my hand from a nearby room—it was my stepfather.
“Why aren’t you dressed? The wedding is in five, or do you want me to …” he said with furrowed brows and raised his hand to slap me, but I stopped him.
I was about to confront him, but Bruno’s voice rang through the hallway upstairs, right near the step.
“Molly!” he yelled, so I looked my stepfather in the eyes and spat on him.
“You little...” he cursed as he struggled to wipe his spit, and then I kicked him in the crotch.
He landed on the floor, and I dashed out of the room, heading for the door. Fortunately, none of Bruno’s men were standing at the door because everyone was busy, but then I spotted one standing by the gate, which was left open.
When I stepped outside, I noticed Kate standing in front of her pink salon car, and she waved as I ran out. I dashed over and got in. Then she stepped on the gas to reverse out of the compound, but Bruno bolted out the front door.
“Stop them!” he yelled at the man standing by the gate, but before he could draw his gun, Kate moved quickly and attempted to hit the man, causing him to dive to the side in fear.
Then Bruno pushed the switch near the front door to close the gate, and he began running towards us. My heart skipped a beat as the gate started closing, and I wondered if this mess was worth it. I was going to die if I didn’t escape this place today.
“This is the end, Kate,” I muttered as I looked at her, but she had a confident smile on her lips, and she kept her foot on the gas. Then she pushed through, and I closed my eyes, convinced we were going to die.
In an instant, I heard a loud bang and opened my eyes to see that the gate had been closed, but we were outside the compound.
“Suckers!” Kate yelled, and then I heard Bruno yell from behind the gate.
“You will regret this, Molly Waterson!” he yelled as he banged loudly on the gate.
Molly:“I don’t think we should be here, Kate. We should probably go home and rest up for tomorrow,” I said to Kate through the loud music as she gulped down the contents of her glass.“Come on, you’re no fun!” Kate said in an ear-splitting tone, and then she let out a giggle. She then took another shot and squeezed her face against the burning sensation, after which she laughed. “You should celebrate freedom tonight,” she said, passing me a shot, which I declined. She shrugged and gulped the contents. We needed to get on a plane as soon as possible because Bruno and his men would come right after us. Here I was paranoid, and my best friend was unbothered.“What if Bruno and his men find us?”“Shh,” Kate said, putting a finger to my mouth before wrapping her arm around my neck.“Have this,” she said, forcing a glass of liquor down my throat. As I felt the burning sensation down my throat, I squeezed my face, but as soon as it was over, I felt great.“You know what? Perhaps you’re right
Farrell:The irritating sound of my phone ringing woke me up. I groaned several times because I was suffering from a throbbing headache. I reached for my side table but couldn’t feel anything, so I forced my eyes open to see that I was in a motel.Last night’s memories flooded back as I looked around the room. Her sweet taste lingered in my mind, and it made me smile. I reached for her on the other side of the bed, wanting more of her but finding an empty bed.“What’s this?” I said aloud as I grabbed the piece of paper and money from the bed.“I’m sorry about last night. Take this and forget it ever happened,” I said, reading the contents of the paper. My lips curved wide because I found it amusing that she didn’t know who I was. “Sir!” My smile faded as I heard Martin’s voice from the door.I was the most ruthless and feared man in town, so I couldn’t be caught slacking and smiling because of a woman. He walked in shortly after opening the door.“Are you fucking mad!” I yelled. I the
Farrell:“Andrew Waterson, today is your day of reckoning!” I said with a growl as I removed my hat. When I looked up, I noticed how chaotic the situation was. There was a girl bleeding from her leg. Andrew backed up to the wall like a coward, and there she was—my golden goose. They dressed her in a wedding gown, but she was unhappy. Her face was red and swollen. Tears streamed down her cheeks, and a man clutched her tightly.“Please help my friend,” she pleaded, reaching out for me, but the man yanked her back. Then I hazily remembered everything she had said in the club the night before, and I concluded the man was her fiance. I became enraged, and I cocked my gun and shot this man in the chest without hesitation. His blood splattered all over her white gown. I saw her eyes widen, and she gasped for air. Then I ordered Martin and Perez to take the bleeding girl to the hospital.“Bruno!” Molly screamed as he crashed to the floor. She grabbed him and rocked him.“You... you killed him
Molly: I cried myself to sleep at the foot of the bed, still dressed in my bloody gown. The sound of the door opening jolted me awake, and I leapt to my feet, eager to see his face and learn what he had in store for me. But when the door opened, a young lady walked in. She was dressed in a black gown with a white apron and a white cap. I could still see her beautiful black curls through the cap. "My name is Rose, and I'm here to prepare your bath," she said her eyes darting along my body and the corner of her lips raising. She then locked the door and approached me. I remained still the entire time as she moved past me to the door on the left. She opened it and shut it once she was inside. I collapsed onto the bed and stretched my hands. At this point, I couldn't say if I was fortunate or unlucky. I was fortunate to have escaped Bruno and my pathetic excuse for a stepfather, but Farrell was no angel. The lady emerged from the room after a few moments and approached me. "Your bath
Molly: “Have you had anything to eat yet, my darling?” He inquired, and I looked at him blankly. I was still terrified by what he had said, and he was simply changing the subject. “If you’d rather have me for dinner, just say so; gawking at me with no words is a little strange,” he smirked. “Oh, don’t flatter yourself,” I said, folding my arms, turning to walk away, but he gripped my waist. “Rule number two, never walk away from me when I’m talking to you,” he said in a vile tone. “So..?” he asked. “I haven’t eaten yet,” I said, my face turned to the side. “Very well then, dress up and come to dinner with me,” he said as he let go of my hand. I sighed deeply and headed to the pink bed to sit as he left the room. Then I remembered I never even inquired about the location of the wardrobe. I looked around the room, assuming that one door was the door to the closet. I stood up and made my way to the first door on the right. Then I yanked it open, and what I saw startled me. It was
Farrell: I awakened with a tightness in my chest. Then I realized I was naked to the chest and sleeping on cold tiles. This could only mean one thing: I was still sleep walking. The elderly lady’s incessant cry for her daughter overwhelmed my ears, causing me to force my eyes open. I rose from the cold floor and inspected the room, seeing that she lay with her eyes closed on the bed. I approached her and examined her aged skin. I wrapped a blanket around her because the coolness of the room was causing her lips to chatter. Then I touched her silky gray hair softly. “I’ll find your daughter,” I whispered, and the corner of her mouth raised. The incident happened about ten years ago, yet every time I slept walked, it felt like yesterday. After correctly tucking her hands into the blanket, I turned to leave. I opened and closed the door softly. Then, as usual, I locked it. “Hey,” Molly said quietly from behind me. She kept a poker face when I turned around to face her. “What brough
FARRELL:I slammed the door and scrunched my face as I stared at Cassie, who had a smirk on her face. Cassie was the thorn in my rose garden and my ex; unlike the other women I had dated, she was the most fearless. I met her shortly after losing my wife, and her submissive but haughty demeanor lifted me out of my depression. She was still stunning, with her large sky-blue eyes, long lashes, and those juicy kissable lips that were always ready to give some lips. But Cassie was bad news; she embodied the adage “all that glitters is not gold.”She satiated my strange sexual desire, but she never let me heal properly.“Mr. Gustavo,” she said seductively, spreading her long, spotless legs on my table to reveal her underwear.“Can you explain how you got in here, Cassie?” I inquired, my brow furrowed. Then I took off my jacket and hung it on a hook near the door. “I am not here to play games, Cassie; please tell me how you got in!” I said this with a growl and marched straight to the table.
Molly:I was such a fool to pay him a surprise visit. What in the world was I thinking? That he was Prince Charming, and I was Cinderella? This man clearly wants me only as a sex slave.“Molly!” As he took heavy steps down the hallway after me, Farrell yelled in a husky tone. That we were supposed to be legally married bothered me even though I did not love him.. As I ran through the corridor, my heart felt as if they had placed a heavy stone on it, and my legs felt shaky. How could he? Why did he marry me if I could not satisfy him with just one woman? He could have made me his whore or anything else, but married me against my will.He caught up with me just as I was about to press the elevator button and enter it.“I told you to wait!” He growled, yanking my hand violently, causing me to wince in pain. When I turned around, I slapped him across the face, my eyes glistening with tears. My hands were weak, so it did not do much; he just clenched his jaw and glared evilly at me.“Pay at
Molly: I sat on the terrace, taking in the breathtaking scenery, from swaying trees to flocks of chirping birds. Everything was lovely, and it gave me a warm feeling in my chest. I reflected on my life five years ago with my eyes closed. I could have sworn I made the wrong decision with Farrell that night, but the opposite has been true. Everything went swimmingly, except for the fact that my mother died without recognizing me. Rest in peace, sweet soul. But I am grateful for that night at the club and whatever made him magically attracted to me. I was still trying to enjoy the moment when Corduroy let out a piercing scream. I blinked open my eyes and sighed heavily. How could I have forgotten the most exciting, yet stressful, part? Being a mother! “Mummy!”Corduroy called out in a shaky voice, forcing me to stand. I walked out onto the terrace and into the penthouse. Corduroy pushed the door open before I could reach for it, and he looked up at me with teary eyes. As he cried, I
This is me releasing a sincere apology for my readers, and I have a good reason for not updating. 1. I have been sick for a while, and this has been due to stress, and pressure. I am a final year student and my course is not an easy one, plus my exams are near. 2. This story has only one chapter remaining actually, and I have been editing it ahead of completion. I'm sorry that I do not have more words to add, because I do not want to drag the story line, but I promise to come up with a new and better story as soon as my exams are over. I would give you all the opportunity to choose your preferred genre, and I will get to work. I love you all for giving my first story this kind of opportunity, and I can never thank you enough. I'm really sorry for my shortcomings. please if you see this, don't forget to comment with your preferred genre. Thank you.
Molly:*Beginning of flashback*"I'm hungry, and my tummy hurts," I said to Andrew who had just gotten back from work. He signed and made his way up the stairs, brushing shoulders with me."Foolish child," he said, and I muttered a "God bless you,"I didn't think he would hear me, but before I could tell, he yanked me by my hair and flung me on the wall."If your mother won't teach you how to behave then I'll do that. It's my duty as your stepfather to teach you how to respect your elders," he said, and I scoffed. He slapped my cheek, and then pushed me down on the ground. After which he kicked me on my stomach. Then he crouched down close to me, and pressed hard on my jaw."Remember, you can't say a word to your mother if you want her to live," he said to me, and left while I stayed on the cold floor in pain, sobbing silently. My mother usually returned late because she ran her business from morning until late at night. She did all this because Andrew couldn't provide adequately for
Molly:At first I was dumbfounded when Farrell said those words. I couldn't believe it was finally going to happen. I felt weird for a moment, and I reached out to him when he turned to leave. I walked in front of him, and held his face then looked him in the eyes."You don't have to do this, and…""I have decided to let go of the past, and that is the only way that this would work," he said. "I love you Molly, and I want us to work," he added, and then he kissed my lips briefly, before taking my hand.As we walked down the hallway that led to the room, my heart thumped very fast. I feared what I would see and at the same time I was curious.I felt an in rush of air which left my body with goosebumps as we came to a halt in front of a door. He took out the keys from his pocket, and unlocked the door. As he opened it, I took in a deep breath, and shut my eyes. Then I walked in, and opened my eyes to see a crisp bedroom. At first I was in awe at what I had seen. My room was nothing comp
Molly:My body trembled in fear as I felt Lola's tiny hands hold mine. I was blind folded so I couldn't see her but I knew that something terrible was going on. She sobbed silently, and I placed her head on my lap."Don't cry, we will be fine," I said to her trying to hush her, but she wouldn't stop."Will mummy die?" She asked, and I felt my heart crumble in multiple pieces.Having to accept that your parents were evil hit different, but then she had to be grateful that Courtney wasn't her real mum. Well she didn't know this yet so it was understandable that she would cry over what was going on."Mummy will be fine, and your uncle will save her," I lied even after I had heard the gunshot, and Courtney who was shrieking in pain. This child was going to suffer a lot of trauma, but I promised myself to take good care of her, because the only place close to home would be Farrell's house, and I wasn't sure he was stable. The door of the room opened after a while, and I heard someone appro
Farrell:When I got a hold of the gun, I smacked Courtney gently on the face and she fell to the ground then I put the gun in my pocket, grabbed Lola and walked towards the room I heard Molly's voice. Before I could get to it, Courtney jumped on my back, and grabbed hard on my neck. Her hands were obviously weak, and watching her struggle would have been funny in a different scenario."Can't you see I'm trying to save you!" She yelled, and I yanked her off my back.I pushed Lola into the room."Farrell," Molly called out from where she sat with blind folds but I didn't respond, I shut the door, and faced Courtney. The fact she kept acting as if I was in danger and needed help from her made me angry. There was definitely no amount of help that she could offer me at this point."Save me from what? You had one job but each time you were around, you only made me feel worse. I can't believe I failed to realise it until now," "Ingrate!" She scoffed, and then she stood up."Do you know how
Farrell:"Courtney what is…" I was about to complete my question when I looked away from Lola to see Courtney holding a gun.I became alarmed at once, and I tapped my pocket to see that my gun was gone. I turned around to see if there was anyone behind, and I realized Courtney was actually pointing the gun at me."Come here, Lola," she said, and then Lola shook her head, holding right on my neck.Deep down I wished I could handle the situation better but then I knew that the only way to think properly was to hand Lola over. Lola screamed in fear asI put down at once. "You'll be fine," I said to her as I pushed her over to Courtney who looked blood thirsty. I couldn't understand what was going on, and I didn't want to get violent yet. This had to be a joke because there was no way she would openly threaten Lola with a gun. She loved Lola so much."This has got to be a joke right?" I asked, Courtney and she laughed briefly then she placed her hand firmly on the trigger."Does it look
Farrell:"Maria!" I screamed, and then I jerked up at once. I looked around to see that I was lying on Maria's bed.The sun had just risen, and I guessed I had slept walk once more but this time it was for a good cause. I stood up from the bed,and walked to her dresser where her combs and everything were still perfectly laid out. I picked one of them, and I found a few strands of her hair on them. "You were really here," I muttered, running my hand on the comb. Suddenly a very gentle breeze swept by, giving me a brief chilly feel that had the hairs on my body standing, and goosebumps sprouting out of my body."Rest in peace, my love," I said with a deep sigh.I felt an inrush of emotions as I did when I met her, but this time I wasn't angry. It felt nice knowing she was in a good place, and all that could have been was terrible so I was grateful that it never happened. They said you couldn't have your cake, and eat it so I took a deep breath, shoving off the emotions that engulfed
Farrell:After so much contemplation, I grabbed the keys to Maria's room. I made up my mind to keep an open mind. I had to heal from this trauma, or else I would pass it over to my innocent kids who were on the way. When I left my room, I noticed how late it was. Molly crossed my mind, and I hope deep down that she could hold on a little longer until I figured myself out. Quietly, I walked through the long hallway that led to her room. I placed my ear on the door opposite which was were the old lady stayed. I heard her giggle to herself as usual, and I turned around to face Maria's door.I walked to the door, inserted the key, and pulled it open. To my greatest surprise he lights were on, and I heard the shower running."What the?" I questioned myself, slamming the door, and rushing to the bathroom to turn off the shower. The thought that Molly just have been here got me annoyed a bit but then I tried to push it away. I had to push off every little hint of anger. I began to convince
