DAMIAN

The next morning, I found myself pacing in the gazebo, running my hands through my hair as I tried to calm the restless energy that had been building since yesterday. My thoughts were consumed by Aurora. I could not believe her defiance, the way she’d walked out without looking back, and the feeling of her slipping further from my grasp. She was out there, away from me, living in Ethan’s pack, and it was driving me mad.

I had thought the feeling was going to reduce but for the last few days, it had only gotten worse. I wanted her so badly here with me. If she wanted me to, I would turn the whole world over if it meant she would be with me. I poured myself another glass of wine, hoping it might numb the frustration gnawing at me. But as I took a sip, the taste only served to sharpen my focus. I need her back. That was all that mattered now.

I did not even know if it had to do with the pack anymore. The rejection had hurt more than anything had and all I wanted now was her back to me where she belonged. My beta, Wyatt, joined me shortly after, his usual smirk in place as he approached. He sat across from me, pouring himself a glass without asking, his gaze awkward as he watched me.

“You look like hell,” he commented, not bothering to hide his amusement. “So, what’s your next move? Because right now, it looks like you don’t have one.”

I sighed, leaning back in my seat and glaring at the trees surrounding us. “I don’t know, Wyatt. I have to find a way to bring her back, but nothing I’ve tried is working.”

Wyatt took a leisurely sip, his gaze never leaving mine. “You sent her that letter, right? Why didn’t you just text her? Or, I don’t know, call her?”

I clenched my jaw. “A letter felt more personal. Romantic, even.”

Wyatt let out a dry laugh, shaking his head. “Romantic? Are you out of your mind, Damian?” He set his glass down with a clink, his tone turning serious. “You don’t get to play the romantic card. Not after you spent years pushing her around, making her feel trapped. You think a letter’s going to make her forget that?”

His words stung, but I forced myself to hold his gaze. “I know I made mistakes. I just… I don’t know what else to do. She needs to know that Ethan is not a good person. He is fucking manipulating her and she is not going to realise that. At least not anytime soon.”

“Maybe start by facing reality,” Wyatt said bluntly, leaning forward. “She’s with Ethan now. She chose to go with him so she obviously saw something she liked. You think she’s going to leave just because you wrote her a few poetic lines?”

A surge of anger flared within me, but I swallowed it down, trying to keep my voice steady. “It’s not that simple, Wyatt. I can’t concentrate, can’t think, knowing she’s there with him. I need her here. I don’t even care about anyone else.” I glanced away, feeling a pang of guilt as I thought of Evelyn. But the truth was clear. She no longer mattered. Only Aurora did.

Wyatt’s lips twisted into a wry smile. “You’re done for. Completely, hopelessly cooked.”

Before I could respond, a familiar voice drifted toward us, and I looked up to see Evelyn strolling in, her arms occupied with shopping bags, her face glowing from her recent trip. She caught my eye, her smile widening as she approached, blissfully unaware of what I was going through. I cringed, already anticipating how bad her hands were going to feel while touching me.

Wyatt shot me a knowing look, his eyes gleaming with barely concealed humor as he stood. “I’ll leave you two lovebirds alone,” he said, his tone mocking.

I shot him a glare as he walked away, his laughter fading into the distance. Turning back to Evelyn, I watched as she set her bags down, her face flushed with excitement. “Damian. You have no idea how much I missed you. Look, I got you something.”

She dug through one of the bags, pulling out a sleek new watch, holding it out with a hopeful smile.

I took it reluctantly, forcing a small smile. “Thank you, Evelyn. It’s nice.”

She beamed, clearly pleased with herself as she settled into the seat Wyatt had vacated. “So, what did I miss while I was gone? Did anything exciting happen?”

Her casual question grated on my nerves, and I took a deep breath, steeling myself. “Actually, yes. Something did happen.” I leaned forward, my gaze hard. “Aurora found out about my plans with the witch. Care to explain?”

The smile vanished from her face, replaced by a look of genuine confusion. “What are you talking about, Damian? I didn’t tell anyone.”

“Really?” I raised an eyebrow, watching her reaction carefully. “Because, conveniently, the Aurora knew exactly what I was planning, and the only person that knows about it from Wyatt who I trusted with my whole life is you. Did you tell her because you wanted to officially cement her decision of never coming back to me?”

Evelyn’s voice trembled slightly. “I swear, Damian, I didn’t say anything. Why would I sabotage you like that? I’ve been with you every step of the way.”

I narrowed my eyes, searching her face for any hint of deceit. But all I saw was a glimmer of hurt, her eyes glistening as she blinked back tears.

“Do you have any idea what it feels like to be accused like this?” she whispered, her voice thick. “I’ve stood by you. Helped you through all of this and crossed the line I never thought I would cross. And this is what I get in return?”

A pang of guilt twisted in my chest, but I pushed it down. If he did not do it, then I needed to shift back my attention to who did, and majorly on how to bring her back. “Very well then. I need to focus on getting Aurora back, so you can leave.”

Her eyes darkened, and she stood up abruptly, gathering her bags. “Fine. If this is what I get for helping you and putting aside my feelings to help you, then I probably deserve it. I am tired of the bullshit you have been putting on since she left.”

She turned on her heel, storming out without looking back. I watched her go, feeling a strange relief settle over me. Part of me knew I’d hurt her, knew I should care, but the truth was, Evelyn’s feelings were the last thing on my mind. Aurora. That was all I could think about. All I could feel. Her absence was like a wound that refused to heal, and it was growing deeper with each passing day.

I stood up, gripping the edge of the table as I tried to gather my thoughts. A soft laugh echoed from behind me, and I turned to see Wyatt lingering nearby, a knowing smirk on his face.

“Still thinking about Aurora?” he asked, crossing his arms. “Because, from where I’m standing, it looks like you’re letting her control you. She’s not even here, and she’s got you wrapped around her finger.”

“Shut up, Wyatt,” I snapped, but he only laughed harder.

“Come on, Damian,” he taunted. “You’re completely out of your depth here. Trying to be romantic, ignoring Evelyn, obsessing over a woman who’s clearly moved on. You’re setting yourself up for failure.”

I glared at him, my fists clenching at my sides. “I don’t need your advice.”

“Maybe you should,” he replied, his tone suddenly serious. “Look, Damian, I’m your friend. But even I can see that this thing with Aurora. It is going to destroy you if you don’t let it go. She’s with Ethan. She’s made her choice. As long as you are alpha, the council should listen to you not the other way round. You can wait for your second chance mate.”

I looked away, the truth of his words gnawing at me. Maybe she has moved on. But every time I thought of her with Ethan, every time I imagined her laughing, smiling, building a life with him, the anger flared again, stronger than before.

“I can’t just let her go,” I said quietly, my voice barely a whisper. “She is mine. My mate.”

Wyatt shook his head, his gaze filled with a rare hint of sympathy. “You need to decide what matters more, Damian. Your ex-mate or your sanity and pack.”

I let out a bitter laugh. “Easy for you to say. You’re not the one feeling what I am feeling.”

He didn’t respond, just gave me a long, hard look before he turned and walked away, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

As I stood there in the empty gazebo, the weight of his words settled over me. I was slowly losing it. But I couldn’t bring myself to stop. Aurora was the only thing that felt real, the only thing I still cared about at the moment as strange as that sounds. If I told myself this a few weeks back before she left, I would have laughed at myself. But now, I did not care because I wanted her even if it destroyed me. I’d find a way to bring her back.

My mind was racing with plans, ideas, and desperate attempts to reclaim what I’d lost. But as I considered my options, a gnawing suspicion lingered in the back of my mind. Evelyn had denied leaking the information, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone close to me was sabotaging everything. I needed to find out who it was, but that was second to the main plan I needed to strategize.

Maybe I needed to start all of this after I had made sure that she had forgiven me. It was going to be hard, but it would be a start.

AURORA The next day, Ethan called me. We had a brief conversation, which had me smiling and blushing behind my phone throughout. I did not know why just speaking with him had left me this way. God, it felt like I was genuinely cooked. It had literally left me buzzing with excitement. AURORA I clutched my diamond emerald necklace on my neck as I felt pain in the lower part of my body. He was doing it again. Damian was cheating on me with his girlfriend Evelyn while I stood there trying to look pretty beside him for the ball. But that was even the least of my concerns, even though I had been married to him for four years and he never attempted to treat me right. I had just found out that my ungrateful and wicked husband had killed my mother. I was not sure of it. I looked at the necklace closely in the mirror. I have owned it for several years but it had never shown me something like this before. When I was getting ready and I was clasping it on my neck, I had a vision and saw Damian standing in front of my mother’s dead body. Could he have really been the one that killed her all those years ago? I could not sit here and continue thinking about it because I was not going to get any answers. I needed to go and ask him. I looked over at the divorce papers

AURORA He looked like he was born of a fruit plucked from Heaven. The man stood way taller than me, and the authority around him was impossible to ignore. He had medium, well styled raven hair. His skin was tanned and the angles of his face were sharp. His chiseled jawline and high cheekbones made him look surreal. His eyes were piercing and green, almost making me tremble in my shoes. Who was this man and why have I never seen him here before? From his well styled and obviously expensive suit, I could tell that he was an important and rich man. “I am so sorry,” he looked down at the spilled wine and then at my clothes. I could not help but notice the little accent in his voice that made my heart flutter. “Come on, let me get you cleaned up.” “No, that is fine.” I called out for one of the waitresses. When she saw the spill, she cleaned it up with some wipes. I did not want water to touch my clothes yet. I was planning to dry clean it to keep the quality intact. “I am so so

DAMIAN “Gosh, you are so perfect.” I whispered to my girlfriend, Evelyn as we left the royal ball. The royal ball’s main purpose was for alliances with other packs that I was not on good terms with. I wanted to cut off that tradition but as much as I hated to admit it, it was very good for creating new allies and new business collaborations. It was easy to ignore my enemies when I had the most beautiful woman in the world by my side. I decided that I wanted to announce my girlfriend to all of them today. I was never going to marry Evelyn and she knew that. Divorcing my mate was going to make me seem weak and that was something I could not afford right now, especially with some of my half-brothers who wanted the throne for themselves even though I was the heir. As the alpha, I could have as many women as I wanted even when I was married or mated. Aurora was forced to marry me because of some mate bond between us that I did not even care about. It was almost hilarious because th

AURORA We got on the way and three hours later, we arrived at Ethan’s pack. The massive gates opened to reveal a sprawling landscape unlike anything I’d ever seen. Ethan slowed the car, glancing over at me with a reassuring smile.“Welcome to Blackwater, Aurora,” he said softly. I took in the sight before me. The towering trees, lush greenery, and rows of beautiful old buildings were very different from the kinds we had back in my pack. It was different in a good way, or maybe I felt that was because I was finally away from Damian. Everything felt peaceful to me. I was so glad I made this decision. When he stopped the car, a guard stepped forward and opened the door for me. I smiled at him, whispering some words of gratitude before I got down. Ethan passed over the key to another guard who was going to park the car. He came beside me as we walked into the palace. “Take a moment to settle in. You can make yourself comfortable here, Aurora. I’ll come back soon to introduce you to ev

AURORAWe spent the next few minutes there, just enjoying the view and when the sun eventually went down, we decided to go back into the pack. I was exhausted and needed to sleep. Ethan led me down a grand hallway lined with portraits. Each of them was perfectly crafted, and I could tell that they cost a lot of money. I like to paint so I would probably like to remake the portraits in my free time.“I want you to meet my mother,” he said, glancing at me as we headed back to my quarters, which was close to his. “And don’t worry. She is well… she’s got her opinions, but she means well.”I nodded, trying to calm the flutter in my stomach. Meeting his mother seemed like a monumental step, even if I kept reminding myself this was just a temporary arrangement. Still, I couldn’t ignore the slight anxiety gnawing at me. After what had happened with Kiara, I was afraid that I was going to find one more person here who hated me. I was not new to people disliking me, but for some reason I wante

AURORAI went to sit down on my bed as I opened the letter. Damian’s handwriting scrawled across the page, his words unsettling:‘Aurora, I know you think I’m desperate, but this isn’t about me wanting you back. I am sorry about how I left things with us when you came. I wasn’t angry and hurt, even though it did not justify the way I acted. I know I cannot erase the past four years, but there is really something I need to tell you. It’s about something much more important than me wanting you back. You need to know the truth. Ethan isn’t who he says he is. I’ll explain everything if you give me a chance. Please, Aurora, for your own safety. You can come to meet me whenever it suits you.’I shook my head, letting out a small, frustrated laugh. For my safety? Damian was reaching, trying to twist things to make me doubt Ethan. I knew he wanted me back, not because he cared, but because he needed my help to reclaim his power in the pack. I knew his brothers, and that they were just waiting

I’d lost count of how many drinks I’d had tonight, but the bitterness in my chest wouldn’t go away, no matter how much I tried to drown it. Everything had fallen apart, and I couldn’t figure out where it all went wrong.Evelyn had left a few days ago, saying she was taking a trip with some friends, and I hadn’t heard from her since. Her absence gnawed at me, leaving a hollow space that only made me more suspicious. I needed answers. Why had my plans with the witch been exposed? Who had leaked the secret of my attempt to bring Aurora back? And was Evelyn involved? There could barely be a reason why she had left immediately after we had gotten in touch with the witch. A sharp knock on the door broke through my thoughts, and I looked up, bleary-eyed and irritated. “Come in,” I called out, setting the glass aside and trying to shake off the fog of alcohol.A guard ente

AURORA When I opened my eyes, the first thing I noticed was that Ethan wasn’t beside me. The sheets were cold, his side of the bed empty, as though he’d never been there at all. A pang of disappointment crept in, and I felt a flush of embarrassment as I replayed the events of last night. I’d let myself believe, just for a moment, that maybe there was something real between us. But now, lying alone in the morning light, it was hard not to feel foolish. I tried to not have expectations, but it was hard when he held me in his arms like he did last night. I got up, trying to shake the feeling of vulnerability that lingered. I washed up and dressed, mentally reminding myself that this was just an arrangement, nothing more. What had happened between us was part of our agreement, a way to fulfill the contract, and nothing else. As I stepped outside, I spotted Sarah, Ethan’s sister, walking toward me, her usual bright smile in place. She waved, and I forced a smile, trying to bury the disap

AURORA The next morning, I woke up with the biggest smile on my face because it was my wedding day. I have been married twice, and it was not a love match but there was something to this one that I liked. The air was filled with the buzz of celebration. I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the soft fabric of my dress, my heart pounding. Today was the day I would become Mrs. Grey. It felt surreal, almost like I was living someone else’s life. I never thought I was ever going to get married again. When you get married to the alpha of your pack, you are set to know that you are only going to separate from him when death carries one of you. But I did the impossible and I am out of the clutches of that. I took a breath while I was trying to keep my veil in place. AURORA Driving back to Blackwater, I gripped the steering wheel tightly, my mind spinning with anxiety. I knew I’d crossed a line. I had left on my own, slipped away without telling Ethan, and now I had to face him. I did not even want to think twice about what he was thinking at the moment. I did not know how many people he had invited today to witness the wedding, and he just thought that I stood him up. Did he regret deciding to marry me?My chest tightened at the thought of his reaction. He had every right to be angry. If the roles were reversed, I’d feel the same way. I would perhaps even have a worse reaction than he would ever think of having. When I arrived at the palace and stepped inside, I immediately spotted Ethan and Kiara in the sitting room, casually watching a movie. They looked relaxed, and at ease, and for a moment, I hesitated, feeling like an intruder. She was probably there with him when I left. She must have convinced him that she was right to be wary of me in
