(Lola’s POV)

Alphonso had been acting weird. He didn't want me sleeping in the same bed as him, so he moved me to the guest room.

I was so mad at him but I decided to let it go.

His reasoning was that he didn't know exactly who to trust and needed to confirm my story.

I'm guessing Lily must have been a very good wife to him if he had to second-guess who his real wife was.

He also wouldn't let Frank, our son, near me. I wasn't so mad about that, but considering he didn't want me in his bed, I needed a bargaining chip, and the child was it.

I decided to be the mother I never was.

I didn't work, so I would give Catherine the day off and go get Frank myself.

“What do you want to do with mommy today?” I asked him with a smile planted on my face.

He was less than five-years-old I doubt I needed to do too much to win him over. Especially if Lily was a great mother, he’ll just think I&rsq

(Lily’s POV)I had been obsessively baking and cleaning ever since I saw Alphonso on the news. I baked so much that Chris had to help me take the treats I had baked to a homeless shelter on the next town over, where I met Kay’s father working. I didn’t even know he worked there.“What brought you to these part of town?” He helped me with the box of treats I was carrying.I smiled, “I have just been a little restless of late and I had to find a way to divert that energy, so I baked.”Chris walked in behind me with another box filled with treats.Julian, Kay’s father, chuckled, “you must have had a lot of energy if you had enough to bring all the way here.”“I didn’t even know you didn’t work in the town.” I mentioned, as the three of us walked further into the homeless shelter.“I don’t really. I just volunteer here during my free time.” He smiled at me.“That’s impressive that you have the time to do this, on top of being a full time father.” Chris chimed in.Julian shrugged, “I try t

Lola’s POVI was pacing around the guest room as I tried to figure out a way in which I could still gain the upper hand.My attempt to try and scare Alphonso into accepting the fact that I was pregnant after I announced it to the public had backfired.I was paranoid and rarely left the house in the fear that Daniel was going to track me down and try to do something to me after what I had done to him. But then a thought came to mind: what if I got the upper hand and went to him before he came to find me?Just because Alphonso didn’t feel he had anything to lose that wasn’t the case for Daniel. He was married and I was sure he knew I was crazy enough to do something to his wife.I grabbed my phone and tried to search for his name.I smirked when it came up: “That was easy.” I said to myself as I grabbed my bag to get out of the house.I opened the door, and Frank came running to me, “Mom, can we spend the day together?” His small frame hugging me around my knees, almost made me fall ove

Alphonso’s POVIt had been a few months since I had last seen Lily, and I was pushing the PI I had hired into finding her.By pushing I meant asking for updates every day, even when he clearly didn’t even have anything to tell me.There he was in my office, still with nothing to report.“What do you mean you can’t find her?” I snapped as I slammed my fist on my desk.I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself.“She obviously didn’t just disappear into thin air, especially considering that she was hurt.”“I have looked everywhere. All hospitals close to this building and even extended the search to hospitals all over the city, but none of them have a record of her being admitted in there.” The PI stated, “Maybe we should consider that she might not have survived.”“Get out of my office.” I cut the man off, and said in a very calm tone, and he gathered his things and walked out without another word.He clearly was starting to think that I was unhinged. Maybe I was.I hired him to fin

Lily’s POVAfter what happened with Alphonso, I wasn’t sure that I was ready to become close with someone else, especially not when I was pregnant with someone else’s child.“I hope you don’t think this is something more than friendship,” I blurted out seemingly out of nowhere at Julian. He frowned and then chuckled, but when I didn’t laugh along with him, his smile dropped and he became serious. “I hope that I haven’t really given you the wrong impression of me,” he stated. “My daughter just never stops talking about you, and I thought it would make her happy if you and I got to know each other, but if that’s not okay with you, I could take a step back.”I mentally face-palmed myself, so much for setting boundaries and making a perfectly good situation awkward.“No, you aren’t,” I chimed in quickly in an effort to make the situation less embarrassing on my end. “I just didn’t want to seem like I was giving off the wrong impression or coming off in a way that made you think that I…”

(Lily’s POV)I hadn’t told Chris about the note. I was spiralling, and I didn’t think it was the right thing to do; at least both of us didn’t need to be on edge.I felt obligated to take on this baggage, and I wasn’t exactly complaining.I did tell him to take over the deliveries and that I wasn’t exactly feeling well, but he was more than willing to do it.I, on the other hand, was having a breakdown, and I desperately wanted to talk to someone about this. Every cell in me wanted to call Alphonso.I kept picking up the phone and putting it back down.I had started to dial the numbers when there was a knock on the door.It was in the middle of the day; I never usually have visitors at this time of day. I picked up a gun, and as I peeked through the window to see who it was.Julian.I was back to feeling on edge, and I didn’t know what exactly to think about him, but all I could hear was Chris’ paranoid voice at the back of my head.I put the gun away and opened the door—just a crack.

(Lola’s POV)A few weeks had passed, and to say things were going great with Diana would be an understatement. If we weren’t meeting for some milkshakes, ice cream, coffee, or even shopping, we were on the phone all the time.“If you aren’t going to act like a mother to Frank, why exactly am I still letting you live with me?” Alphonso asked as he walked past me in the dining room, where I was enjoying my breakfast.I smirked, “Because I am still his mother.” I took a bite of a slice of fruit, as I glared at him. He was going to ruin my breakfast, wasn’t he? I thought.“I could pick anyone off the street, and they would be more of a mother to him than you are.”“Yet here I am.” I took another bite.“My…” He started when my phone started to ring.I held a finger up as I answered the call.“Hey, how are you doin

(Gemma’s POV)I had two days before the deadline that Alphonso had given me was to come to an end, and I wasn’t even close to finding out where Lily was.I even tried to track Chris, and still I got a lot of women who claimed that he was dead, which he wasn’t if more than two women claimed the same thing. I guess he had to continue the scam in some way with Lily gone.My phone rang, and I answered without even looking at the caller ID, “What?” I asked in annoyance.I barely had time to sleep in the last few days.I needed this to work out so I could spend more time with Oscar and Abby. We had formed some kind of family, with Oscar being a lawyer, and I had opened up about that. I did, and he did suggest that I join forces with Don.“I am just trying to help you.” Oscar’s voice came on the other end.I sighed. “Sorry about that; I just have a lot to deal with.&rdquo

(Chris’ POV)Three Weeks AgoI wasn’t a fan of small towns, as there wasn’t much to do and everyone was into your business. I especially didn’t like the kind of relationship Lily and I had chosen when we got to Deadwood. Why did the sob story have to be that her husband died and we were looking for a fresh start? Why couldn’t I be the husband but had to be the brother?Being her brother definitely limited the kind of relationship we could have, and as much as I thought I had gotten over her, I hadn’t.“What kind of job can you do?” The grumpy old man in front of me asked.Fake an entire identity, I was tempted to say, but I smiled and replied, “Much of anything really, I am not picky. And the first thing to show her was the engagement ring.“Oh my god that is so beautiful, I guess he finally popped the question?” Lily asked loud enough to capture Oscar’s attention.“Rushing it actually.” Oscar responds, and he turns to Alphonso, “and you’ll be my best man an

He was walking around looking at whether he had everything that Lily was going to need at the hospital gathered together.“Should I bring the fluffy or comfy pillow?” Alphonso wondered out aloud as he weighed the options in front of him.He turned to Lily – who was casually lying on the couch in a dolphin onesie eating crisps covered in ice cream.“You know the due date is usually just an estimation by the doctor, right?” She stuffed a bunch of ice creamed covered crisps in her mouth.“The doctor said the due date is likely tomorrow, and I think it doesn’t hurt to be prepared.” Alphonso replied with shrug, “I will go with a comfy one. I think at that point you’ll value comfort above everything else.”Frank joined their p

Was she listening to this?I left another message. This time leaving out all the threats and curses.“I just want us to talk about this, Diana. Come back home, and we can have a level-headed conversation about this. We don’t need to ruin our marriage.” I took a deep breath. “I even asked Lola to leave and told her I wanted nothing to do with the child. You are the one I want to have a family with, Diana. (Lola’s POV)It had been over a week since Diana left. The trip was supposed to be for a week, but Noah seemed oblivious to this. I knew that Diana was planning something.I had snuck into her room, and there was almost nothing in the closet. Her jewellery was gone. Most of her clothes, shoes and bags.I cursed under my breath; she was leaving this idiot, and he didn’t even worry about it. Or notice it.It was time I went back to my life, back to Alphonso.I started to scope out the apartment. It had been a long since I was there, and I wanted to know what to expect. But all I had seen so far was Frank and Catherine. Never Alphonso.I even tried to sneak into the apartment once, but the locks had been changed.I had lost all my leverage. But I was still Frank’s mother, and I was going to use that to my advantage.“Where did you go?” Noah asked as he came into the house from scoping

I was at the parking lot, staring down at Alphonso’s truck. In my mind, I was debating whether or not I wanted to break into the car and see what I could find. But his truck was parked in a place where people would definitely see me if I went and started snooping around his car.I decided to finally go and throw the hook at Denning to see if she would catch what I wanted her to.I handed her a cup of coffee—good coffee, not from the hospital.“I thought you could use some pampering.” I gave her a sweet smile, turning on my charm.“I have been on my feet the whole night.” She complained, but hugged the coffee gratefully. “I have just four more hours left in my shift, then I could go home.” She didn’t seem to even notice my charm, most women do and I don’t have to

I have arranged for Catherine to pick him up at the private airstrip.”“Who will Frank be traveling with?” I inquired.“The pilot is a trusted friend of mine. I have communicated with Catherine, and she has agreed to pick him up. I spoke with Oscar, and he will be letting Abigail and Frank spend more time together; in the meantime, we will be cleaning stuff up here in Deadwood.” Gemma seemed to have thought of everything.I pointed to the door and said, “I think he is too doped up to even formulate a single word.”“I doubt he even knows that he is no longer at Chris’ h

I wanted to sort out the issues with my finances first, so that the divorce lawyer could have an entire picture of what we were dealing with.“Diana Adams?” An older woman called out my name.“Brett Hunter?” I asked in confusion. The woman chuckled. “You were under the impression that I was a man?”I shook my head, but I was sure my eyes betrayed me.She gestured for me to follow her, “Don’t worry about it.
