Everywhere I looked I was surrounded by them. They would not let us sleep or rest because our kind did not deserve to rest . I was on knees wiping the floor and I wasn't even half way done yet . I had two more large halls to go. After that we had to clean the dishes and that would take hours. It was torture and evil all at once and everyone was watching my every step even the other human servants.
"Hi," a girl said as I finished cleaning the second hall room "can you make sure the basement in the kitchen is also cleaned up" I stood up and looked at her "couldn't you do it that wasn't on my list" She seemed offended by what I had just said as if expected to just take it. I wasn't going to be bullied by them as well my own kind hell no "I am a bit tied up that's why I asked" "Did you ask everybody else or was it just me?" I grabbing my bucket and she didn't answer "I thought so ,well I'm a bit 'tied' up so I can't" I walked away who did she think she was . She stood there in shock and maybe even angry. Her grey eyes narrowed at me. I smirked so she was the queen B amongst the human slaves. Didn't she have better things to worry about than bullying her own kind. I scoffed as I entered another room and got down . I started wiping the floor by the time I was done I was exhausted . I groaned as I thought of the amount of dishes waiting for me . The sun started rising as I finished washing the last plate. We were basically forced to wash for the whole pack. And only two people were supposed to do it they wouldn't allow us to help each other. I looked at Madam Anna "please Madam..." she cut me off "Call me Anna please just Anna" she said with her tired voice ,her hands were swollen from cooking and cleaning and washing for probably years now . "Anna please get some I will finish off" I pleaded with her . She had swollen baggy eyes and dark circles it definitely wasn't healthy. She shook her head "it's okay dear I am alright besides they will kill me if they found me resting." "I won't tell if you won't " I said "now please go rest for even a few minutes" I insisted . She sighed "you won't give up will you." "I definitely won't so ...go please." She smiled at me as she left and I stayed behind. I began preparing breakfast as the birds began chirping . My hands already felt sore but I had to get it done for Madam Anna . I felt like she really worked so hard she barely had time to look after herself and the humans here seemed to only care about themselves and not each other. They had probably been here for so long they had forgotten how to be united ,how to fight ,they had given up all hope I could see it in their eyes. My thoughts were quickly distracted when the girl with grey eyes and Brown hair walked in with two man they were also human slaves. She folded her arms "she refuses to do the hard work she thinks she is special" she said gesturing at me . "I guess we will show her how special she is then" the man said with raised eyebrows . Lily walked in ,her eyes were red and puffy. She looked at the girl "Emma what are you doing?" She asked her confused. "Are you okay?" I asked Lily but then one of the guys grabbed my hand and I slapped him hard "fuck off don't you touch me!" I said grabbing a knife from the counter . Another twisted my hand and I winced in pain dropping the knife. They started dragging me with them. "Stop it !" Lily said in tears "what are you doing!" "Stay back or you will be next," Emma said as she followed behind. I tried resisting but Emma quickly punched me in the face and my vision blurred for a second. They dragged me to a dark room. They placed me in the middle of the room while the other guy grabbed a few bottles . They started breaking the bottles until I was surrounded by shards of glasses . Emma had already taken away my shoes . There was shards of broken glass everywhere and only a tiny space for me to stand . "Why are you doing this ,we should be united why are you acting like them?" I said in anger "Don't fall asleep, byeee" Emma sang as they left me in the dark and locked the door behind them. I sighed ,this was really hell and worse than I thought . I stood there for hours and Noone came for me . I even tried calling for help even from the monsters but Noone came. I was alone and my legs hurt. I had to get out of here nomatter what. I tore a large piece of my dress and wrapped it around my feet and hands. Trying to brushed some of the glass away wasn't working because the shards of glass was everywhere they really had out done themselves. I tried walking towards the door thankfully the sun had risen and some of the light started sipping into the room. I walked slowly and carefully. I winced as I felt some of the glass cutting my foot but I was almost there. Just as I reached the door a bigger glass sliced my foot and I almost fell on my face but the door opened and large hands grabbed me lifting me off the floor easily bridal style . I widened my eyes as I stared at the beautiful golden eyes of my heroes. Elijah.Elijah… How did he know I was trapped in that room? And why was he helping me? Questions flooded my mind, but I couldn’t voice a single one. He was one of them—a wolf, capable of anything. Yet, his actions didn’t align with the cold, ruthless demeanor of his kind. As he carried me silently into the kitchen, I could feel the warmth of his body against mine, a stark contrast to the icy grip of fear in my chest.Madam Anna was already awake, scrubbing the counters with a tired rhythm. When she looked up and saw Elijah carrying me, her eyes widened in shock. Her hands froze mid-scrub, the brush clattering to the floor.“Sir,” she whispered, her voice filled with disbelief. He carefully placed me on a chair, his golden eyes flickering with a strange emotion I couldn’t decipher.“Clean her up,” he ordered Madam Anna, his tone curt. He turned to me, a faint smirk curling his lips. “Try staying out of trouble, little raven.”I furrowed my brows, staring after him as he walked away. Little rav
"Why would the Alpha have them killed just for hurting you?" Lily asked in a whisper, her voice tinged with disbelief and fear.Anna folded her arms across her chest, looking thoughtful. "And don’t forget, the Beta saved you. Do you think the Alpha might have accepted you as his mate? Maybe he’s protecting you.""That's impossible," I snapped, pacing back and forth. "They’re not keeping me alive because they care. It’s to punish me, plain and simple."The tension in the room was stifling. I needed to get out. My head was swimming with too many questions and the heavy gazes of everyone around me. I was used to solitude; being the center of attention like this felt like being trapped in a glass box for all to see."I need some air," I muttered, stepping out of the kitchen. The relentless questioning was pushing me to the edge.I made my way to the garden, feigning interest in the plants just so I could have a moment to breathe. The sunlight warmed my skin, and I inhaled deeply, trying t
"We have to go now, Lizabeth. We can come back some other time," Armani urged, stuffing the second pack of noodles into her bag with hurried hands. Her movements were quick but careful, betraying the urgency in her voice.I scanned the nearly barren shop, eyes darting from one empty shelf to another. It had already been raided several times, the signs of desperation evident in the broken glass and scattered cans. There *had* to be more food somewhere. Our people were starving, and these few packs of noodles wouldn't last."Those won't last us a week, Armani, you know that!" I snapped, frustration boiling over as I knocked aside a few empty cans in my search.Armani's blue eyes met mine, a mixture of fear and patience-always patient, even when she was scared. "We can't help anyone if we get killed out here. It's almost dark, and you know they'll be out hunting soon. We won't be able to hide or protect ourselves in time," she said, her voice strained as she pulled herself to her feet."
My heart felt like it had stopped beating entirely as I watched him study me, his golden eyes narrowing in curiosity. Was this part of the torture? Were they planning to make my death slow and agonizing? My body refused to obey me; every muscle was frozen, leaving me shaking like a leaf caught in a storm. He was built like a Greek god—broad shoulders, sculpted muscles, and skin kissed by a perfect tan. Everything about him screamed danger. I had no doubt he could snap my neck with a single hand.I scooted back, inching away until my back hit the cold, unforgiving wall. He didn’t stop his approach, his gaze fixed on me like a predator toying with its prey. For a brief moment, I almost wished he would just kill me already. The fear of what he might do was far worse than death itself. My mind raced with all the horrible possibilities. He crouched down, bringing himself level with me. I screamed—an ear-splitting sound that tore through the silence, making my own eardrums ache. He moved sl
My mind was racing with a whirlwind of thoughts. I couldn't stop replaying the image of Armani's death-the way they tore her apart like she was nothing. Armani was dead. She was gone, and I would never see her again. They had taken the only family I had left in this world. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to block out the memory, but it was impossible. My mother had died when I was only five. Diabetes had slowly drained the life out of her. After my father left us, she drowned herself in alcohol, ignoring every warning from the doctors. I was still just a child, but I remembered it all vividly, like a scar etched into my brain. No one came to save me. Instead, they dumped me into an orphanage like a piece of unwanted trash. No one wanted me. I stayed there until I turned sixteen, and then I ran. I found a part-time job, started scraping by on my own, and just when I thought I was beginning to make it, the world fell apart. The beasts took over. They destroyed every city, every buildi
Everyone gasped. I didn't understand why. Maybe it was because I was about to die after doing the most ridiculous thing: coughing. Of all things, why did I have to cough? As he came closer, I realized just how massive he was. He had to be at least 6'4", towering over everyone around him. His presence was overwhelming. But what did he mean by "mate"? What was that supposed to mean? I looked at Jordan, silently pleading for him, or anyone, to help me. Tears streamed down my cheeks, blurring my vision. The large man was now standing directly in front of me, making me feel like a tiny mouse trapped in the gaze of a hawk. He watched me with cold, expressionless eyes, a void I couldn't read. He just stood there, and it made my skin crawl, every inch of me screaming to flee. In that moment, I wished I could vanish, sink through my seat, and disappear. Elijah appeared beside him, looking uneasy. "That is impossible, Alpha. She is my slave," Elijah said, his tone tense. For a split second, a
"It's time to head back," Lily said, her voice strained with exhaustion. Dark circles hung under her eyes, and her shoulders sagged as if carrying a weight far too heavy for someone her age. She looked like she didn't want to go back out there, and it made me feel even more dreadful. Had anyone ever tried escaping, or were they all just too scared?I nodded, even though a million questions buzzed inside my head. But everyone around me seemed so tired, so defeated. It was as if they had already accepted their fate, and it was terrifying to realize how easily despair could settle into their bones. Each step I took felt like I was dragging a ball and chain, my heart racing with fear. I could almost hear it pounding in my ears. When we emerged back into the courtyard, the atmosphere had shifted.
