“Ouch, that hurts!” she moaned, her voice–tainted, coming forth like a broken whisper, far from how she had reacted to the hurt in her head.

“My bad. I’ll go gentle.” He lifted his head to meet her gaze. But she was too stunned by everything to look back.

“Gentle?”She felt bashful of herself for letting him read the green lights from her body’s reaction to his finger's contact with his skin. Her inner body tingled with his commanding, pleasant smell. His masculine breath caressed her neck as he bent to fix the necklace hooks perfectly.

“What’s tomorrow’s Date?” He asked rhetorically while at his job. “Oh, I guess it’s a due date for you and me.” He breathes, slowing into her ears.

Her feminine core alarmed in a swift response, causing her shoulders to shiver for a second, but not noticeable. She fought it, but her body didn't seem to take sides with her this time.

“I wish..” She responded, biting her lower lips.

“Why wish when I can make that happen, with one call away.”

She had taken her favourite spot, an inch away from the moving vehicle’s door. Folding her hands in rebellion, staring deep through the tinted dark door window like she was counting the buttress trees that formed a canopy over the moving vehicle they were seated. Her breath was fast-paced; she could barely get herself together with the way she was feeling. Rage was far from what she felt inside after gulping down that mud of embarrassment before Jay Cobbs. Suddenly, her lap caught heat like something was about to crawl into her core. She knew it was about time to be scolded. Now, she wasn't in good spirits to hold a conversation. And why was his hand on her lap? The rage in her core boiled up with something familiar. It wasn't pure rage because her body tingled when he began, “And what title would you award that drama y

We understand you may have had a little issue to put up with,” He mocked, sending a wink at Naomi, who was standing stiff and electrocuted. He stretched forth his palm facing the roof, directing Damian to occupy the only vacant seat at the opposite end of the table from where he was standing.Damian's blood raged in his veins, but his face was unreadable. In as much as he needed the contract, he despised that he was about reducing himself to nothing. His thoughts blurred his vision, and he could only see his Aunt echoing how important the contract was and the warnings she spat earlier about Naomi. She was right.Naomi tried reading his face to know why he hadn't said a word for the long five seconds, that felt like he was taking eternity to respond. She stepped closer, standing side by side with him, her shoulders met his abs. The pen hovered over the last signature line.Naomi’s fingers trembled while she forced herself to press the ink onto the page, the final step in dissolving five years of marriage. Across the brown mahogany table, Ethan Carter sat still, his sharp jaw clenched with his eyes locked on hers with an intensity that made her pulse quicken. She tried to ignore the way his expensive cologne still sent a shiver down her spine. She also tried to forget the countless nights she had spent in his arms, tangled in silk sheets, legs spread across his body, whispering promises that had all crumbled to dust. The lawyer cleared his throat. "Ern ern, Mrs. Bennett…" He corrected himself. "Miss Bennett. Just the last page now." He said.Naomi exhaled sharply. It’s just a signature. Just ink on paper. But as she signed her name, she couldn’t ignore the way it felt, like carving a wound so deep it might never heal. Did she still love him?As she slid the document across the table to Ethan, he took it witho

The morning after should have felt different.Sunlight filtered through the massive windows of Ethan’s penthouse office, casting golden streaks across Naomi’s bare skin. She stirred, muscles aching deliciously from the night before, she still had the remnants of their passion still humming in her veins. They had been together throughout the previous day, ever since the lawyer had gone. She wasn’t his wife anymore. She was supposed to walk away. She thought.Ethan was already awake too, leaning against the edge of his desk, fully dressed except for his loosened tie. His gaze raked over her, unreadable and intense, like he was committing every inch of her to memory and to the memory of the previous night.Naomi pulled the sheet higher over her chest. “You’re staring.“ She said…He smirked, a slow, knowing curve of his lips. “So are you.”She scoffed, rolling her eyes as she sat up. “Last night was a mistake.”Ethan’s expression darkened. “Is that what you tell yourself every time?”Eve

Naomi barely felt the elevator descend. Her pulse thundered louder than the hum of the machinery, her thoughts a chaotic mess of regret, confused desire, and passion to get more, she had to control herself. Whoever made women inferior. She had meant to walk away and be done for good. But her body still ached for Ethan’s touch, her skin still burned where his fingers had lingered. Worse, her heart still wanted him. What does one do when the spirit is willing, but the heart does not wish to let go?The doors slid open, revealing the sleek marble lobby of Carter Enterprises. Naomi forced herself to step forward, past the knowing glances of the receptionists who had seen her come and go too many times before. As she pushed through the glass doors into the crisp morning air, her phone buzzed twice. She pulled it out, expecting a message from Ethan. But it wasn’t him.Instead, it was Damian.Damian: Brunch today? I missed you last night.Guilt coiled in her stomach, cold and suffocating. Sh

Naomi’s fingers tightened around the phone. A chill slithered down her spine, but she forced herself to stay still, to not betray the fear racing through her veins.“What do you want, Damian?” she asked, keeping her voice level, even as her pulse hammered wildly in her chest.“You, Naomi.” His voice was a whisper of steel, just as always. “I want you to remember who you belong to.”Her stomach twisted. “I don’t belong to anyone.”A low chuckle. “That’s where you’re wrong, darling.”The call disconnected.“Pom Pom Pom”, came the sound of the disconnectionShe stood frozen for a moment, her skin crawling, Damian’s possessiveness suffocating. Then, she did the only thing she could and wanted, she called Ethan back. She wanted to feel even.He answered immediately. “Naomi?”Her voice came out in a whisper. “I need to see you, I’m weak.” She said.Ethan’s penthouse was exactly as she remembered, dark wood, glass walls overlooking the city, and the lingering scent of him, smoky, masculine,

Naomi sat on the edge of the bed, gripping the invitation so tightly that her knuckles turned white. The air in the room was thick due to tension and unsaid words. Ethan paced near the window, his jaw set in a hard line."You’re not going," he repeated, his voice low and dangerous.Naomi exhaled shakily. "Ethan, you don’t understand. Damian doesn’t make idle threats. He just showed up, represented by someone else at your door. If I don’t show up, he’ll retaliate. And knowing him, it won’t just be me who suffers."Ethan stopped pacing and turned to her, his gaze sharp. "Then we play this smart. You’ll go"She shook her head violently. "No. No way. I just told you""…but you won’t be alone," he finished, stepping closer. "You think I’d actually let you walk into his territory without protection?"Naomi blinked up at him, heart pounding. "He said to come alone."Ethan smirked, a dangerous glint in his eyes. "And you think I play by his rules? Are you not scared?"Before she could argue f

Naomi’s hands trembled slightly as she turned the card toward him. The words were elegantly scripted, but the message was anything but refined.Meet me on the rooftop alone. He never did.Ethan took the card from her, reading it before his jaw clenched. “He’s trying to isolate you.”Damian smiled. “Such a smart man, aren’t you, Ethan? But then again, you always underestimated just how well I know Naomi.” He stepped closer, lowering his voice so only she could hear. “You and I both know you’ll come. You always do.”Naomi forced herself to remain expressionless, but inside, panic swirled. Damian always had a plan, and now, she was trapped in it.Ethan stepped protectively in front of her. “She’s not going anywhere alone.”Damian chuckled. “We’ll see about that.” Then, with a lingering glance at Naomi, he turned and disappeared into the crowd.Ethan turned to her immediately. “We’re not playing his game.”Naomi

“Hey, get dressed, we’re stepping out.” Damian let a possessive order at Naomi who had buried herself in her studies preparing for her final fashion school exams. She lifted her face lazily, unfazed, like she had had enough of these authoritative orders, and it didn't surprise her anymore. Her gaze catches his eyes and his shape fills up the door frame with his hand, firmly wrapped around the doorknob, swinging the door ajar, signalling her that he’s waiting for her to wrap up and follow him immediately.“I’m busy with my studies, Mr. Damian.” she broke the silence tilting her head away from his burning eyes. One could tell that his eyes could burn down the books on her table.“You little needle. Can you for once trade my words into the fabrics of your brains and do as I say without questioning?” he shot at Naomi with his jaws flinched, and his face lacked an expression, leaving no traces of being painted at Naomi’s nonchalant attitude. Her legs fidget in fear of the unknown standin

“Damian, you should know better that your father’s biggest dream and dying wish is to mark his firm across the skies of the seven continents, and this is that dream coming to fruition. I know your plans. Wash your father’s 49 years of sweat down the drain?” She began, immediately she entered the mansion, cutting him off with a wave, signalling him to keep shut before he could say welcome. Now shaking, her eyes filled with concern and rage, she continued; “You are not flaunting that devil to the world. Neither will I let you make a wet blanket off this family’s noble name. Not while my eyes are on you, young man.” He tilted his face to the door frame leading to the kitchen, avoiding his stray eye contact piercing into hers, as he was fully aware that the next agenda on her visit was to shed a pool of tears once he confronted her with that unscathed look like he used to do when he was but a little boy.“Big Mom. Has your blood pressure agreed to stay calm?”“What do you mean by that Da

“Like I said earlier, Mr Damian, she needs utmost but gentle care while she finds her way to her best memories. Also, she might experience post-trauma syndrome around water bodies, big, small or even the littlest like that flowing from the shower.” The doctor instructed with a keen smile courting the edges of his mouth.Damian’s cold response came forth; “You’ve sung that enough, Doctor. Thank you.” He shoved past the Doctor’s stretched hand, which was now hanging in the air. The Nurses who were busy at the counter giggled in disgust and admiration at the toxic- masculinity displayed. “Get in,” Damian ordered, authoritatively but with a faint voice. Maybe, try to follow the doctor's manual so as not to worsen Naomi’s situation.Naomi’s eyes flickered around his face while sending herself low to sit in the front car seat.Damian slammed the door and headed for the wheels.“Sir, are we boarding a flight to Manhattan today?” Rex's voice came cracking from the walkie-talkie sitting on

Sharp screams pierced through the air, calling the attention of everyone in the building, literally.Damian took to his heels, walking briskly like an old woman whose grandchild had been touched. He pushed the door knob without a prior warning of bashing in. There is Naomi, struggling to take in air, her body felt heavy to carry, and the world seemed to whirl before her eyes–Whilst her body kept sinking into the bed, her face gradually submerging into a water body, and her heart jumped to her throat, causing her gut to churn out of low oxygen supply, and her hands felt stiff,--Unshaken like it was struck with a stroke, she pressed tight her eyelids together as if that action would call for a cease in the chaos that was happening around her.Hot tears escaped both edges of her eyes, drooling towards each ear on opposite ends. She could be clearly seen panting, and the monitors kept beeping, at deafening decibels.“Naomi! Naomi!” Her squinted eyes and muscles relaxed a bit on hearing

“Hello, Sir. The culprits behind Naomi’s tragic situation have been reprimanded in police custody.” Damian’s jaw tightened, his fingernails folded, touching his palm; the news should do a thing to him, maybe court a curt-lived smile on his face, or just maybe, hike his thirst for blood. If wishes were horses, he’d give the perpetrators of such outrageous acts a slow-painful death.“Who are they?” He asked, with pain in his voice. And his eyes, colouring brown with anger, flickering, left to right, yet all he could see were imaginations of what the devil's faces should look like.“They’re connected to a long-time incident with Naomi. The reports have it that they came to take revenge after Naomi for running a vehicle over their family member, who unfortunately died in the hospital, 3 days later.”Damian’s eyes brightened, his memories, strong, reeling with an electric current speed to pick out why they came, blood hot for revenge. He had been at the forefront of the mess.A few minute

Damian clung his hands to the stretcher Naomi was laid, helping the nurses push a little faster. Though the nurses flinched to signal him off, they had little or no guts to tell influential Damian what to do.“Mr. Damian?” A middle-aged man with strands of grey on his bushy mustache, covered with a white coverall, with a portable stethoscope in his palm called Damian from behind.Damian looked back through the corners of his right eye and squinted his eye as though he was racking up his memory to know how he met the Doctor that just called him.One thing that never came by surprise was his popularity almost everywhere he stepped in. The Doctor strode to meet the moving nurses and Damian.“Good evening, sir. I am Williams MD.” He kept jogging in action while trying to get Damian familiar with their hospital’s standard procedures. “Yes, Doctor?” Damian raised his brow for details for calling him, yet his face was unreadable.“Uhm.. sorry, our standard procedures demand that only autho
