Wanda Skyes sat on the water closet, her face dulled and worried. "Please, let it be positive this time." She mumbled softly in a cracked voice with her eyes seriously fixed on the pregnancy tube in her hand, impatiently waiting for the result.
Wanda's legs were involuntarily shaking as she kept blinking her eyes at the object in her left hand. And soon, it was about time to see the result. She closed her eyes tightly before gradually opening it to see what her fate was.
"Wanda." A thick loud voice called from the other side of the bathroom door. The voice startled Wanda to the core, almost dropping the tube on the floor. "Shit!" She exclaimed with a fearful tone.
"Get the hell out here now!" The male voice added. It was Andrew, Wanda's cruel husband. "Wanda, open the damn door right now!" He yelled at the top of his thick voice again, hitting the door continuously.
"I-i coming..." Wanda stammered, trying to get hold of herself. Her hands were shaking and sweaty. "I will be right outside." She stood up from the water closet adjusting her bum shorts. But before Wanda could take a look at the tube, the door banged open heavily.
"You dirty little b*tch" Anderson cursed and walked angrily towards Wanda furiously. Wanda quickly hid the tube behind her as he grabbed her hair, pulling it furiously.
"An-Anderson, let me g-goo!" Wanda pleaded, her voice echoing pain but he didn't care. "You good for nothing woman. You will pay for the embarrassment I faced today." Said Anderson as he pulled and dragged Wanda by her hair out of the bathroom.
Anderson flanged Wanda on the floor, pounced on her, and strangled her. "How could you not give me an heir? We have been married for three years now."
Wanda gasped for air, fighting Anderson to be freed but he seemed too strong for her. Seeing how weak Wanda is becoming, Anderson freed her and furiously stood beside her cursing, "You are as useless as nothing."
Wanda grasped for her heavily and coughed terribly. She tried to sit up and leaned her back to the bedframe holding the pregnancy tube tightly on her hand.
Anderson walked towards the drawer by the bedside and brought out an envelope, he angrily tore the tip and brought out a white paper.
"Here, sign it," Anderson instructed, flanging the paper on Wanda's weak body.
Wanda weakly took the paper, her eyes suddenly went wide. She managed to catch her breath yet her heart beats faster than she can count. 'what! Divorce?' she thought silently to herself. She managed to raise her head to look at the man standing before her.
"You have two hours to sign the divorce before I get back or else..." Said Anderson, he then used his right hand to rightly move it across by his Adam's apple, signaling he would end her life.
Anderson stormed out of the room feeling frustrated and angered. The door banged behind him loudly and made Wanda quiver.
Tears filled Wanda's eyes almost falling on the divorce paper. She quickly wiped it out with her fingers. Wanda couldn't believe she would face all this maltreatment from marrying her best friend. Wanda and Anderson had loved each other since they were in high school. They were best of friends and agreed to marry each other but it seemed the grass wasn't greener on the other end of the side.
Wanda read through the divorce paper which had a few conditions attached to it; 1. She is only entitled to one million dollars in alimony. 2. The divorced can't get back to each other no matter what until after five years.
Wanda's eyes widened again in shock. How could Anderson be this cruel? Does he hate me so much to want to distance himself from me? Lost in thoughts, the recurring noise from the living room snapped her out of her thoughts. Wanda staggered and managed to lift herself holding the bed frame to support herself up on her feet. She lazily walked towards the door and held the paper with little concern. She opened the door and walked through the hallway and down the stairs to the living room.
Anderson sat on the couch, his voice bright and sharp as if vibrantly chatting with the lady by his side. "Soo, we will be together. I can't stand another minute with that dirty hog." He said with a smiling face.
The lady noticed the arrival of Wanda and quickly acted like a bitch that she is. "Oh, my Anderson. You know I love you and will do anything for you." She said with a mischievous tone, looking at Wanda with irritated eyes. Her lips curved downward.
Wanda stood before them looking shocked. She couldn't believe her eyes. She tried to find the right words to say but her heartbeat was so loud that she couldn't hear any other thing.
Anderson spoke with a mocking voice, "Who will want to be with a barren woman." His eyes rolled as he spoke with a harsh tone.
Those words pierce deep into Wanda's heart. She felt like a thousand Niddle had been injected into her heart. Tears began to roll down her cheeks uncontrollably.
"How ...how could you do this to me, Agnes?" Wanda finally spoke with a trembling voice. "I thought you were my best friend. How could you ..."
"How could I what, Wanda?" Agnes argued back fiercely. "Who knows maybe you are truly barren." She added, rolling her eyes mockingly at Wanda before turning to Anderson and robbing his chest. "Darling, if it is a child you want, I will give it to you." She said with a mischievous smile.
"Oh babe, I trust you. That's why I love you." Anderson spoke, softly pinched Agnes's cheek like a child.
Wanda broke down with heavy tears, her heart felt like exploding right now. She began to feel uneasy and breathe difficultly like an asthma patient. She managed to summon courage and went back to the room. And with the little strength in her, she took the pen and signed the divorce paper without thinking twice.
Wanda began to pack her stuff into her box. Putting everything she could lay her hands on that belonged to her. She gazed at the closet to make make she had packed all her stuff and not to leave anything behind. As soon as she made sure everything was set, she picked up her box and left the room without turning back.
Anderson and Agnes were seated in the living when Wanda walked towards them with her box. She stood before them and placed the divorce paper on the center table of the living room. "Here, I have signed the divorce paper." She said with a sad tone.
"Finally, I will be free from the witch." Said Anderson. He pulled away a little from Agnes who was lying on his chest. "I will transfer you one million dollars into your account before stepping out of the house." He added and brought out his mobile phone from his jeans pocket.
Wanda looked at Agnes with a regretful eye before dragging her box out of their sight. Before she could step out of the house, her phone buzzed. She already knew it was an alert from Anderson so didn't bother to check it. Wanda stepped out of the house with her head held high.
Wanda stood outside the mansion but there wasn't any cab available to pick her up.
Anderson felt like a heavy burden had been taken off his chest. He felt happy to have finally divorced Wanda. He stood up and went straight into his room with Agnes.
Meanwhile, Wanda stood for about ten minutes before a black Mercedes Benz gG Classicparked in front of her. "Do you need a ride?" The man behind the wheel spoke, winding down his glass.
Wanda was hesitant to answer but the sun was hot outside and she couldn't bear it burning her skin. "Yes." She answered. "Come in." The man instructed. And Wanda entered the car.
Anderson was already lying on top of Agnes and was about to make love when his eyes caught something on the pillow. He picked it up and with a great shock it was the pregnancy tube. The result should be positive. Wanda was pregnant.
"What the ..." Anderson spoke with great shock. "What have I done?" He asked regrettably. Agnes was stunned by his sudden words.
"What is .."
Agnes asked but Anderson was already on his feet and almost at the door.
Anderson rushed out of his mansion down the street with only his pants and no shirt to cover his upper body. He looked dejected, frustrated, and sad. His hands covered his mouth in great shock as he wandered restlessly.Anderson made a strong fist and screamed, "Fuck!!" Venting out his frustration.Meanwhile, Wanda sat quietly in front of the car along with the stranger. Her face emit brokenness and hopelessness which the man could read easily. He glanced at her slightly. "If I may ..." He asked with a sweaty voice. But Wanda didn't answer. She was lost in thought. Where would she go to right now? She has no one left to run to for help or support, where would she lay her head when the night comes?"Is everything all right, Miss?" The man asked with a curious tone. His eyes fixed on the road ahead but he kept glancing at her stealthy.Wanda was still lost in her thoughts. Tears began to roll down her right eye without her realizing. The man looked worried and soon hit the break and par
Wanda couldn't believe her eyes. What is Micheal doing here at the hotel and why are all these men with him? Or is he a government official? Different thoughts kept roaming her mind."I am sorry, Sir." Wanda apologized, sniffed her nose, and tried to move away from Micheal."Where are you going?" Micheal asked curiously, watching her as she tried to drag her heavy box. "To wherever the world takes me," Wanda answered with a weak tone, dragging her box on the floor.Micheal quickly walked in front of her and blocked her way. "Wait, I know you have nowhere to go. So why don't you ..." Wanda quickly argued, "...why don't you just get out of my way." She spoke almost yelling at Micheal.Micheal raised his hands in a surrender gesture. "Okay!" He said, gesturing his hands for her to make her move.Wanda walked away but halted when she heard something that she never imagined. "Let me help you, Wanda. Spend the night here and I promise to help you find a good home and job." Micheal spoke wi
Wanda began to feel nervous. Her heart beats faster. She could see the mischievous look in Micheal's eyes but she wasn't sure yet what his intentions were. And then finally she summoned the courage to speak. "What proposal if I may ask?" Said Wanda with a blurted voice. Her eyes are white as the snow staring at the man beside her.Micheal bit his lower lips and reached out to a brown envelope. He handed it to Wanda. "Here ..." Wanda froze for a few seconds, her brow arched upwards in curiosity. "What is in there?" She curiously asked with a thin voice.Micheal signaled with his head for her to go ahead and check it out. His eyes fixed on hers, keenly observing her body language.Wanda took the brown envelope and slowly opened it. She brought out some white papers and dropped the envelope on the table beside her. Staring at the paper, Wanda read through the contents with widened eyes, blinking almost twice a second. She raised her head and gave Micheal a blunt look."Is this the prop
Chapter FiveAnderson’s heart pounded in his chest as he burst through the grand doors of St. James Church, the heavy oak slamming against the walls with a resonant thud that echoed through the sacred space. Heads turned, startled gasps rippling through the gathered crowd as he stumbled forward, breath ragged and eyes wild. At the altar, Wanda stood in her pristine white gown, a vision of beauty and sadness all at once. Her fingers were intertwined with Michael’s, the two of them locked in an intimate gaze that made Anderson’s stomach churn. The pastor’s voice droned in the background, a solemn recitation of vows that Anderson could barely hear over the roaring in his ears. And then it happened—the final dagger to his heart. Michael leaned in, his lips brushing against Wanda’s in a soft, deliberate kiss. Anderson felt the air rush out of his lungs as if he had been sucker-punched. Time seemed to slow, the scene playing out in painful slow motion: Wanda’s eyes fluttering shut, her br
Chapter Six The car ride was heavy with silence as Agnes drove Anderson back to his house. The city lights blurred past them, casting fleeting shadows that danced across Anderson’s tense face. He stared out the window, his mind replaying the devastating scene at the church: Wanda, in that beautiful gown, exchanging vows and kisses with another man. Each image was like a fresh wound, stinging and unrelenting. Agnes glanced sideways at him, her grip tightening on the steering wheel. She could feel the anger radiating off of Anderson, his body taut like a coiled spring ready to snap. She wanted to say something—anything—to break the oppressive quiet, but words felt useless against the storm brewing inside him. As they pulled up to Anderson’s mansion, he flung the car door open and stormed out without a word, his steps unsteady on the cobblestone path leading to his front door. Agnes hurried after him, her heels clicking loudly against the stone. “Anderson, wait!” she called out, her v
CHAPTER SEVEN Wanda’s breath caught in her throat as she stepped into the lavish cottage house. The entrance was a breathtaking display of opulence, with tall glass walls that offered a panoramic view of the shimmering Las Vegas skyline. The interior was no less stunning: polished marble floors, modern chandeliers dripping with crystals, and plush furnishings in soft, inviting tones. It was the epitome of luxury, a place designed to impress and indulge. Michael followed closely behind, his hand resting lightly on Wanda’s back as he guided her through the sprawling space. “Welcome to paradise,” he murmured, his voice laced with satisfaction as he watched Wanda’s reaction. She glanced around, her eyes wide with awe, but there was a hesitation in her steps—an uncertainty that Michael either didn’t notice or chose to ignore. The cottage was massive, each suite tailored for couples seeking the perfect honeymoon escape. Everything from the soft ambient lighting to the subtle scent of ro
Chapter Eight Anderson groaned as he slowly woke up, his head throbbing with the relentless ache of last night’s drinking. He blinked against the harsh morning light streaming through the half-drawn curtains, his vision blurry and his mind foggy. The events of the previous night were a disjointed mess in his memory, flashes of Agnes, the bar, and his own anger swirling together in a confusing haze. As he shifted on the bed, Anderson froze, the realization dawning painfully slow. He was naked, the sheets tangled around his legs in a disheveled mess. His heart skipped a beat, a sick feeling rising in his stomach as he turned his head and saw Agnes lying beside him. She was half-covered by the bedsheet, her bare shoulders exposed and her hair fanned out across the pillow like a dark halo. “Agnes,” Anderson muttered, his voice thick with disbelief and a tinge of panic. He sat up abruptly, clutching the sheet to his waist as if it could shield him from the reality before him. “What the
Chapter Nine Michael leaned against the plush headboard of the bed, his gaze fixed on Wanda as she sat quietly by the vanity. The tension from Martha’s unexpected visit lingered in the air like an unwelcome guest, casting a shadow over the morning that was supposed to be filled with new beginnings. Michael knew he needed to break the silence, to reclaim the moment that had been lost. “Wanda,” he said softly, moving closer to her. She glanced up, her eyes guarded and distant. “I know this hasn’t been easy. The wedding, the changes, everything… I just want us to be happy. To make this work.” Wanda offered a faint smile, though it wavered at the edges. She could feel the sincerity in Michael’s words, but the images of Anderson, the turmoil of her past, still lingered just beneath the surface. She nodded, trying to push the unease aside. “I’m trying, Michael,” she whispered, her voice tinged with a mix of hope and hesitation. “I really am.” Michael reached out, taking her hand in his.
