KELLY POV
My eyes caught Holly's worried gaze as I took my fifth shot of tequila. She should take a chill pill. I'm not going to pass out on her.
We are at Brooklyn's most expensive nightclub, and it's not as if we just got in here by luck. I work here, and they let me take someone with me because I'm a staff.
That's why my best friend is here with me, and the main reason is... It's my twentieth birthday!
My boyfriend Dain is supposed to be here with us, but he said he had something important to take care of, and I'm guessing it has to do with his mother. That's the only thing important to him apart from me.
"Kelly, quit drinking. You know I can't handle you when you are drunk. How will I carry you out of this place without any assistance?" She pointed out taking the glass out of my hand as I tried to take another shot.
"It's a club, Holly; you can ask anyone for help; they will gladly help you; it's a free world; you don't have to worry about anything." I smiled, taking the shot out of her hand.
She should loosen up; she has been acting tense all week long, and I thought taking her out would help. She doesn't look comfortable here at all; my best friend is such a prude sometimes.
"Oh great, you are already drunk." She scoffed, and I barfed, squinting my eyes so I could see through the sea of bodies on bodies. My favorite bartender was still on duty, so I hopped out of the tall chair.
"Where are you going?" Holly panicked; the glitter on the corner of her eyes looked horrible, but I didn't tell her; she claimed she was the better one at makeup, so I let her live in her delusional world.
"To get a refill," I raised our empty bottle of tequila at her, and she chewed on her lower lips.
"You know I hate these things. Please come back as soon as possible. Jeez, I can't believe you are going to ditch me just to get drinks." She whined.
"Are you going to come with me?" I raised an eyebrow at her, and she shuddered.
"You are going to be wasted if you continue drinking; I think it's best if we go home."
I didn't let her finish before I squeezed through the girls dancing in front of us. "It's my birthday," I announced loudly because they needed to know whose name was on the neon lights on the display board.
My boss ordered it, and I'm grateful for his kindness. "Omg, happy birthday, Kelly." They squealed after me, and I smiled proudly, heading for the bar while passing through the crowded dance floor.
This place was blazing with loud music blaring from the speakers. I successfully reached the bar and stumbled on my own two feet.
"Oops, Gab, my man, can I get another bottle?" I gave the bartender my best puppy eyes, but he only chuckled.
"I don't think that is advisable, Kelly; you won't be able to feel your face if you take more tequila. How are you going to get home?" He asked about mixing a very attractive combination of strong and expensive alcohols.
"That looks strong; can I have a taste?" I smack my lips, staring at the glass on his hands.
"Are you sure that's a good idea, little butterfly?" I heard the deepest masculine voice ask from beside me, and then I turned and noticed he had a customer.
Inky black slicked-back hair with eyebrow piercings, two on his left eyebrow and one on his right. His eyes were brown, the type that has a little bit of sunlight in them; is it called honey brown or whiskey brown? Anyway, he had a devastatingly handsome face and a cold aura.
As if he noticed I was still in a trance, he smirked and traced his index finger on his lips. My eyes tracked the movement, then I snapped out of it.
"Why? Because it's yours?" I asked with a frown, Is he trying to say I can't handle it because I'm a woman?
"Can you handle it? If you can, then by all means proceed with it." He enunciated in his stupid deep voice, something about the man is off, and I don't like the way he is staring at me.
Even Gab looked like he was going to collapse; he gave me a petrified look, but I didn't understand what that meant.
"Here you go, now merry away, I have work to do," Gab said, setting the bottle of tequila on the counter. I took it with my eyes still on the man's drink.
I glanced at him, and I caught him staring, but he didn't look away even when I glared. It's extremely rude to stare too much, and I hated the feeling I was having.
I was dressed in a short strapless black shimmering gown that stopped at the middle of my thighs, with my curly long hair cascading down my back and my shoulders.
The man was staring like I wasn't putting on any clothes.
Maybe I'm intoxicated.
"Happy Birthday, Kelly," he purred with sarcasm dripping off his tone. "How did you know my name?" I asked.
"The huge neon sign board behind you," he replied with a shrug. Taking the glass cup of whatever Gab mixed, he downed the whole thing in one go.
"Oh, I guess you should go jump off a cliff, thanks." I took the bottle and noticed how Gab stiffened at my words; I ignored it and left the scene immediately.
Holly looked relieved as I approached her. "What took you so long? You were supposed to just grab the drink and come back," she lamented.
"Relax, I'm back now; let's party till sunrise," I yelled at the top of my voice.
The crowd behind me cheered, and I started dancing. I took a shot, then another, then I lost count.
The rest was blurry, but who cares?
*****
I didn't expect to wake up the next morning with a banging headache; my bed smells different and it feels different.
I sat up and noticed my clothes were missing; my dress and my underwear were on the ground in a messy manner.
What the hell?
Then I saw the unmistakable male clothing, and I freaked out.
This isn't my room; I don't have freaking crystal chandeliers, and my bed isn't this big.
I flinched as the door opened and a man in nothing but underwear walked in. Oh my God!
What did I do?
He turned, and I gasped as it hit me.
"You!"
Kelly's POV Three days later.“I have been busy for the past few days. Life has been so dramatic for me.” I sighed, standing by the window side and staring out into the rising morning sun.“That's actually sad. I would have called you earlier but I thought that since you had become the model you dreamed about, that you wouldn't have the time to answer an insignificant person like me.” Jasmine uttered over the phone, her voice laced with disappointment.“Don't talk like that, Jas. Of course I would never consider you unimportant. In fact you matter to me as much as ivy matters to me. It's been a while since we last spoke. How's your mother-in-law?”. “She's great. She's been in good health. She's really worried because she misses Ivy.”“Awnnn.. How sweet and compassionate of her. Ivy misses her as well. Tell her we will come visiting one of these days. She should just have a little more patience. Alex and I have her in mind.”Jasmine sighed over the phone and I could clearly tell she
Kelly's POV “I beg you to overlook Mrs Amanda's display of childishness. If I knew this was how it would eventually turn out, I wouldn't have asked you to meet up with her.” Mrs Cathe apologized genuinely.“It’s not your fault, Mrs Cathe. I would have punched her face if you weren't here.”Mrs Cathe chuckled lightly, shaking her head. “I know you would have punched the living cells out of her, Kelly. You have such a fire in you, and honestly I really admire how you controlled your rage. Because believe me when I say that Mrs Amanda is not worth your anger.”I sighed, crossing my arms. “i still can't believe what my ears heard earlier. She called me greedy, Mrs Cathe. Can you imagine? After offering me such a cheap deal, that woman still has no respect.”“You’re right,” she agreed softly, placing her hand on mine. “But I would plead with you, Kelly on’t to let her words weigh you down. Better offers will come, and when they do, you’ll know your worth is more than what Amanda tried to
Kelly's POV “You arrived just in time, Mrs Kelly. Please have a seat.” Mrs. Cathe offered, pointing at a cushion in her office.I perched myself on the seat, straightening my dress while anxiously waiting for the arrival of the client. The door opened gently after a knock and Mrs Cathe’s secretary walked in.“Mrs Amanda has arrived, ma'am.” The personal assistant stated, her eyes lowered in respect.“Usher her in.” Mrs Cathe bothered and after a few seconds the client walked in with so much aura that made the room shift. My eyes quickly assessed the client from head to toe. She looked like a woman in her early fifties, her wrinkled skin a testament of how matured she was.She was dressed in a neat navy-blue suit and matching trousers that spoke of her class and authority. Her eyes lit up the moment they fell on me. She smiled, the skin around her eyes wrinkled.“Oh my goodness, Mrs Kelly,” she said warmly, her smile genuine. “ Oh my gosh. You are breathtaking. You look more beautiful
Kelly's POV “You should have walked out, Kelly. Is this so-called Mr Adrian trying to sell your dignity or not?”. Daniella noted, her voice rising.“You are interpreting it wrongly. Mr Adrian just wants to give you what he feels you are worth. I think I trust him.” Alex uttered, smiling to emphasis his thoughts I looked between Daniella and Alex, literally not knowing what to think or how to think about it. Daniella and Alex both see him in different ways, and that’s what confuses me,” I muttered, rubbing my temples gently. Daniella folded her arms, her brows furrowed. “Kelly, men like him don’t give without expecting something back. I don't just think he is worth your time, Kelly.Alex leaned closer, shaking his head. “Not everyone is out to harm you Kelly. Sometimes people just see potential and want to invest in you. You might be getting it all wrong.”Their words made sense but in an indifferent way. Daniella didn't trust Mr Adrian and she had a valid reason to but Alex seemed
Kelly's POV “A lot you say, Mr Adrian. You seem to know how to choose your words properly. I am amazed. By alot do you mean, connections and other stuff that comes with it?”.Adrian’s eyes sparkled as he leaned back, his fingers tapping lightly on the table. A waitress passed just in time.“A bottle of cold water, please.” I ordered, my gaze fixed on the waitress though I could feel Mr Adrian's gaze fixed on me. “Yes ma'am. What about you, Mr?”. The waitress asked Mr Adrian.“The same order this adorable woman here placed.” He replied rather lusciously, earning a soft lips smack. The waitress bowed slightly and walked away to get our orders.“As we were saying, Mrs Kelly. I am here to help you. I am here to give you connections, influence and doors that will open for you without you even knocking. I am offering you more than just a position in my magazine. I am offering you a stage where the world will see you and never forget your impact. You will be known as the model of the cent
Kelly's POV We finally meet; Mr Adrian A tall man in his early thirties strides towards his gaze fixed on no one in particular since he had dark shade glasses on.Something about his walking step and his aura didn't sit right with me. It was like there was something I could sense that other people could.I swallowed a hard lump, took in a deep breath and mentally prepared myself for what may come. This was my opportunity to shine and I knew the way I presented myself would determine whether I would get the job.He finally approached our table and took a seat opposite Camille and I. A sly grin on his face.He took off his glasses and my jaw dropped. I could swear I had seen him somewhere. He looked so familiar I could bet on my instincts. Something about him made me feel we had met before but I couldn't remember where and under what circumstances. He stretched out his arm to me, smiling and revealing his set of white teeth.“Good afternoon, Mrs Kelly. I am Mrs Adrian.”My hand tremb
