Rodrigo's POV

This was the third room I was checking now, and still no sign of Don or anyone at all. They were all empty, and it was strange. It was even stranger that I hadn't heard anything from Antonio.

I turned on my walkie-talkie. "Antonio, are you okay?"

There was no reply—just static noise. My eyes widened, realizing that something must be wrong. Either I was the one in the wrong place, and Antonio was where all the action took place.

I turned quickly; this was starting to look like a fool's mission.

The surroundings were creepy enough as it was, and I did not want to stay here any longer than I had to. I had had enough of the situation already; it was time for me to move on to find a better way.

I started off heading for the exit. Everything seemed to be going smoothly so far, up until someone appeared before me. It probably was there since, but I didn't notice.

We trained our guns on each other, and I wondered how long it would be before he took a shot at me. Or it could als

Rodrigo's POV "Killing them like this isn't necessary," I said. "You could have just done that later."He laughed again. "But I want to do it now." He pointed his gun at the one on the end and pulled the trigger.A collective shock ran through the room as the man fell. It took all in me not to shout at him at that moment. I could feel the fear radiating from my men. It was even worse that they were blindfolded, relying only on sound to know what was going on around them. And the sound was not encouraging at all.Don pointed his gun at the next one, and I clenched my fist. "Fuck you, Don. Just kill me already. Why are you wasting time?"Don turned his head in my direction. "When you killed my brother, you thought it was an epic feat. I'm out to break that record. Unless you know that there's always a better way of doing it, you will die knowing you're the reason behind the death of people who were loyal to you."A second gunshot sounded, and the second man fell. Tanya's POV Theresa left me at the top of some stairs. "Go out to the end of this hallway. You'll see some rooms," she told me. "The third one is his room.""Can you take me to him directly?" I dared to ask.She shook her head, already poised to leave. "I will not go with you on that suicide mission of interrupting him while he's probably asleep.""I don't think he's asleep in the middle of all that's going on," I countered."Well, I'll leave that for you to find out." She turned and was gone in a few seconds.I stared at the hallway before me, confused. It didn't make sense that Don would be in his room at all. But where else could he be? Perhaps I would have to search the whole mansion as earlier suggested. I wasn't looking forward to that, but I had no choice.I heard footsteps behind me and scrambled to the wall, glad that the light wasn't bright here. It must be the dead of night by now, but obviously, the occupants of this house were far from sleeping."Heard there's a brawl go

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    Chapter 66: Cleaning Up Tracks

Rodrigo's POV The rest of that night went by in a blur. It was like it was happening to a different person when two of my men came and lifted me while I told them to look out for Antonio.I don't know if they found him then; so many things were happening. At some point, I must have blacked out because when I woke up, I was in a room with blue walls.Upon closer inspection, I realized that the blue walls were actually curtains partitioning my side of the hospital ward from others. I lay on the bed staring up at the white ceiling in confusion for a while, trying to figure out how I got there.I had barely started to recollect when a doctor came in. He assessed me with an intelligent look in his eyes. "You lost a lot of blood back there," he said.I wondered if he knew the cause of it all. He probably didn't, and it wasn't like he was going to report me to the authorities even if he did. I was too powerful for that to happen to me."How long will I be here?" I asked. • THE DON'S DESIRE    Chapter 67: Back To Business

Rodrigo's POV Just as I requested, I was discharged from the hospital two days later. Sure, I was in a wheelchair, driven by someone I guessed I should know but couldn't place a name to him, and not in the best state overall, but I was glad to leave. I was all right, in fact. No one would know anything happened to me except for my still-bandaged foot and the wheelchair. I did see Antonio before I left, and they just said he was unconscious. This was the third day now, and I felt highly annoyed. I clenched my fist when I thought of him lying limp on the bed like a helpless boy. That was not the Antonio I trained. Not the Antonio I wanted. But I couldn't do anything about it. If I got Antonio back at home in the end, I would be glad. The doctors were trying hard to revive him. They still told me that the surface injuries were only the tip of the iceberg; it was much worse within.I wish there were a way I could hurry up the process. It would be difficult to get another assistant like

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    Chapter 68: Fabio's Discovery

Tanya's POV I stared in shock at Fabio. It had been such a long while since I saw him; I wasn't even aware that he'd traveled like Rodrigo said. Seems like I was a stranger here, which shouldn't be so.But I hadn't particularly asked about that, so it was understandable that he didn't tell me. Surprisingly, Rodrigo didn't look happy to see him; he looked like Fabio was some pest that he had to deal with for a while. After all that happened to Rodrigo, I really didn't want him to be unhappy, and it seemed that Fabio's presence was doing just that. "Do you mind? I don't think he wants to see you," I said.Fabio turned his gaze on me, lips turned up in a smirk. "And if it isn't our dear Tanya defending Rodrigo. But how do you know that's what he wants? If he wants me to leave, he can say it himself."I fell silent, realizing that this was probably a fight between the both of them and I shouldn't interfere. It was not like Fabio would do what I asked anyway."Well, she's right," Rodrigo

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    Chapter 69: MR ATTITUDE

Tanya's Pov I waited beside the door for a while in indecision. I had no idea what to do next, and looking at him sitting in the room, I did not think it would be a good idea for me to talk to him about my request now. 'I'll wait until a better time,' I thought as I started leaving the place. He had already begun to incline towards where I was. Most likely, he had a feeling that I was still at the door and would soon call me out for it. I was definitely not ready for a confrontation with him in any way. Getting to my room, I fell asleep instantly. All the tiredness that I felt before washed over me and put me in a dormant state until another two hours had passed. I woke up feeling hungry and rather depressed. The thought of what I had before me, the intense talking session with him that awaited me, was enough to make me want to sleep all over again. I closed my eyes for a while before deciding not to be lazy. If I was going to do it, there was nothing to stall for. 'The earl

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    Chapter 70: EMOTIONS

Rodrigo's POVI could not bring myself to look at her, not after I heard a little of the news that she had for me. She was leaving me. Was she not? It was fine. I did not need her anyway. I never really did.Why did I feel this kind of empty feeling at the bottom of my stomach? I just knew that she would not be coming back if she actually left me if I actually let her go.I was aware of the way I treated her. It was not the best of ways, of course. She was sure to hate me because of that, even if not much, at least a little.I kept on looking down when she spoke to me, telling me of her intention. There was no need for her to know how I felt, to know that I felt conflicted about the entire situation. It would suffice if she thought that I did not care about it in the least. However, when she left me eventually, I could feel a sense of emptiness creeping up on me. I tried my best to remove it, to keep it down and suppress it as much as I could, but it was almost impossible. I did not r

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    Chapter 71 - MAKE IT OUT ALIVE

Tanya's POVI could swear that he was watching me. He probably thought that I didn't know, but it was obvious. I had seen the shadows move behind the door, and since there was nobody else in the house with me, I could tell that he was the one."What does he want now?" I asked myself internally, trying to figure out the matter. The chances were that he was going to try to keep me from leaving. Now that he was watching me like a hawk, that was the only reason he would come here after all. If he didn't care about it in the first place, then he would just let me go without coming even to say goodbye or anything like that. Not like he had actually come to say goodbye this time, I contemplated, looking around the place and making out opportunities for myself to glance at the door. It was impossible to see him from the angle that I was at now without him noticing that I was actually looking at him. I didn't want him to know that I had seen him, so I gave up on that idea.I focused on packing

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    EPILOGUE

Rodrigo POV I had to admit she was one of the strongest I had ever met. For some reason, she could keep up and pace with me, and that was also because she was pregnant. I felt happy knowing we had many more rounds like that to come in our lifetime. If that was the only compensation for the loss accumulated throughout the last couple of weeks, it was worth it. I got up from the bed, finally. After such a long time, I had been determined to leave her as soon as possible, but somehow, she had convinced me to stay. And stay I did, throughout the night, over to the following day, and even now. I didn't want to leave. Even though we didn't have sex throughout the entire night, the kisses and hugs we lovingly gave each other were enough to keep me excited all the way. She made a sleepy sound as I slipped away carefully, not wanting her to know I was going. Who knew how long I would stay back if she wanted me to? After all, I couldn't resist once, and most likely, I wouldn't be able t

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 149

Tanya's Pov By the time I met Dante, I found that he was making some phone calls. I had a sudden feeling that they were preemptory ones because he was planning something. I observed his expression for a moment, and upon seeing the grim expression on his face, I realised that he intended to leave. "Don't tell me..." I said once he was done with the call. He looked at me before managing a smile. "We are not safe anymore, not even me. I should have thought about it earlier. It's rather annoying that I had to figure it out from Rodrigo." I looked at him in surprise. I could vaguely remember Rodrigo telling me to tell him about this. Did that not mean he was not supposed to know about it yet, as I had not told him yet? "I asked him about where he was off to when I saw him acting all weird and uptight," he told me with a roll of his eyes. "Honestly, things don't always need a serious cryptic explanation." "Where is he now?" I asked, feeling like I was being left behind. I

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 148

Tanya's POV It took me a lot of serious searching to find him. Once or twice, I thought he was in the house and that Dante was bluffing. But after remembering the severe expression on his face, I decided to make sure that Rodrigo wasn't here before I went over to accuse Dante of lying. I found him eventually in a secluded room, staring into space despondently as if he were depressed by something. "Hey, Rodrigo," I said, my voice becoming very soft as I stepped in. Something told me he didn't want anybody to enter at this time; he wanted the moment of silence to himself. But I found myself intruding anyway. It had been so long since I had seen him, and I wanted to ensure he was well. He glanced my way, but suddenly, a light entered his eyes. He didn't look angry—wasn't angry like I thought he would be at my sudden appearance. Instead, he seemed happy. It made me smile, knowing that I still brought joy to him despite everything that had happened. The light in his eyes faded

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 147

Rodrigo's POV I didn’t protest anymore, deciding to hope for the best and let everything play out by itself. Tanya wouldn’t die; I knew it, and as long as she was alive, everything was fine despite everything I had lost and would lose. I had no other option than to let the driver take the car over to my mansion. I was shocked when he was granted access. It seemed that Tanya and Dante had modified the security system while I was gone. “It’s all well,” I thought to myself as I entered my room immediately after getting out of the car. I didn’t want to talk to anybody—though there was nobody for me to speak to in the first place. I needed some time to myself, time to meditate on everything that had happened so suddenly, and also some time to figure out what the next course of action should be. I was before my laptop, typing furiously as if my life depended on it because it probably did. I wouldn’t let the same situation repeat itself in my life more than once. But then again, it

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 146

Rodrigo's POV It took me quite a while before I realised that it was an ally standing in front of me. It wasn’t just any random person; it was Dante. “What are you doing here?” I asked him, raising an eyebrow. There was a good chance that he was here to help, but he could also have his motives. I wasn’t foolish enough to think that we were friends. We weren’t. “What does it look like I’m doing here?” he asked. “Saving you.” He went behind me, and with one swift motion, I felt the ropes on my hands slack. He had cut me loose. I looked at him again, realising that he wasn’t bluffing. It started to make sense now; he most likely had taken out all the men guarding me, one after the other, though they thought it was some accident. “Follow me,” he said. “I’ll get you out of here.” I didn’t want to accept his help, but I had no choice in the current situation. Since he had been able to manoeuvre his way through the many criminals with guns, there was a good chance he could do

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 145

Rodrigo's POV They were closing in on me. What's more, I knew it when I saw how everyone fighting around me kept an eye on me. I knew that it would be tough for me to escape. It didn't stop me from trying to free myself, though. Constantly, while they were fighting, I tried my best to loosen the ropes. I knew I would have a better chance of survival if I could utilise every skill at my disposal, and I couldn't do that if I were tied up. I was almost there; I could feel it already. All the ropes were nearly gone, and I was secure enough from the bullets flying across the place like rain. If I kept my cool and continued the process diligently, I would easily succeed in freeing myself. Then, I could either join the fight or escape entirely. Suddenly, I saw a man beside me, pointing a gun right at my head. "Don't move anymore," he said. "Do you think you can escape now?" I froze, realising that he wasn't bluffing; he would shoot me if I did anything funny. "Look here," I sta

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 144

Tanya's POV The leader I was to meet turned out to be Diego himself. Well, what did I expect? Seeing him, all the rage and frustration I felt as a result of how things had turned out came rushing back. After all the threats and everything, the man decided to kill me anyway. What, then, was the point of making me give him the flash disc? If he would fight to get me out of there, why didn't he do that from the start? I glared at him in annoyance as I opened my mouth to speak. From the look in his eyes, he already knew what kind of reaction to expect from me after what had happened. I only hoped he had a reasonable explanation awaiting. "Why?" I asked finally. It was only one word, but it carried the weight of all the emotions raging through me. I wanted to scream at him, to fight him—a couple of punches from me to him would release some of the anger and frustration. But somehow, I didn't move. "It's hard to explain and even harder to understand," he told me in a small voice. "But

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 143

Tanya's pov I couldn't understand why he would want me to hand it over to him if he had the power to threaten him. He made it seem as though he could keep him in check, but if he could, then why did I have to give him the document? Why couldn't he just break the both of us out of here so we could forget about the entire incident? All those questions were bubbling in my head, wanting desperately to burst out, but I kept them in. I knew when to speak and stay silent, and now was the typical time to remain silent. I couldn't precisely question him when he showed up out of nowhere to save my sorry ass. "Do we have a deal?" Diego asked him. From the amount of time he was spending to think about it alone, I knew that he had no intentions whatsoever to let me go out of here alive in the first place. The realisation made me even more glad of Dante's intervention, though I could not still understand many things about his actions and why he was doing them that way. Maybe it was not so

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 142

Tanya's POV The shooting started unexpectedly. I was still thinking when he finished counting down, and his men automatically started firing at us. The man named John took cover immediately, narrowly missing getting shot himself. His men took arms as well, and it was a free-for-all. I tried to find Rodrigo in the commotion. It was a perfect chance for me to escape with him and forget all that was happening. But suddenly, I felt a hand cover my mouth. I struggled, but to no avail. The person holding me was too strong for me to resist. Finally, when I stopped struggling, I felt his grip relax a little as he turned me to him. I already knew it was not Rodrigo before I saw his face, and when I didn't recognise him, I got my confirmation. He put a finger to his lips, indicating that I shouldn't scream. If I had known what was going to happen next, I would have because suddenly, he brought out some ropes and tied my hands behind me. I attempted to scream now, but it was too
