Tanya's POV

I thought he meant for everything to happen in just one day. Simply put, I wanted to see him as soon as possible, but he instead waved me off.

"We will continue this another day," he said. "I still have some work to do with Rodrigo. It was better to see him when he was broken. You see, I don't know what it will take to break him."

I wanted to shout that he shouldn't torture him to break him. There was no purpose in doing that. But if I said so, he would think I still had some affection for him, which I did, and then everything would be scattered. I needed to put up an awe-inspiring act if I was to save him. There was no way for me to do it without that.

"Do what you have to do," I said. "I think it's going to be very interesting to see how he acts and talks when you are done with him."

"That's the spirit," he said. "I'll communicate the date and time to you, and then you'll get to see him one last time. After that, we can kill him and confirm our deal."

Tanya's POV The next couple of days passed quickly, but none of them went by without me thinking about what he was going through in his captivity. I knew that he would be subjected to torture, and the thought of that alone was enough to make me feel nauseous. It was difficult for me to focus on anything, but luckily, there wasn't much to focus on. I went about my daily routine slowly, waiting impatiently for the one message to move things forward. Finally, it came to me about two weeks after that, a cryptic message, but I didn't need anyone to translate it for me. I already had a clear understanding of what it meant. "It is time," I thought in relief, suddenly realising that I had wasted all the time I had been given. Instead of looking for a solution like Dante had suggested many times, I had spent the time cooped up indoors, wanting everything to blow over. Now that it was time, I was not prepared for an attack. "What am I going to do now?" I asked myself, suddenly knowing

Tanya's POV It was funny, him dressing me. It might have felt romantic if not for the fact that he was my grandfather practically, and I hated him somehow. Anyway, he had already seen every part of me previously, so there was nothing to be ashamed of. He was being cautious with everything he did, and there was a professional touch to his movements. There was one goal: to hide every weapon he was equipping me with under something very pretty and casual so that it would not be obvious, but I was going in there to cause a fight. "It's a bit heavy," I said with a frown. I had been standing there for over an hour with him, doing everything he could to make his work impeccable. "I know," he said. "You have to get used to it. You can ask him how he goes into fights, and he will tell you that he goes as a walking weapon." "I don't think I'll be able to move properly with this," I said, feeling like he was giving me some ancient metal armour. Maybe this was how the knights of old f

Tanya's POV "I like you, not too early and not late," he said, looking at his watch. I knew what the time was. I had been racing here when I realised I would be a minute late if I didn't. "You told me to come at 11:30, not before and not after," I responded confidently. I had to establish a sort of equality with him, even though the both of us were anything but equal. I needed to be able to demand some things from him, like getting to see Rodrigo personally. Luckily, he had already agreed to that the last time we met. "Indeed," he said. "If you continue like this, our relationship will not be strained. Might be very enjoyable for you and me." "I hope so," I said. "But that's enough small talk. Let's get to business now." He raised an eyebrow at my brisk attitude, bringing out a cigarette. "Relax," he said in response. "How about you have a drink first of all? You are about to do something very tasking." I looked at him in surprise, not having any idea what he wanted me t

Tanya's POV It took an effort for him to hold the knife. I could see it clearly from where his hands shook to balance the knife behind him. I knew then that the chances of him succeeding were very small if things would continue like this. In other words, it was fortunate that I had talked with Dante before this, and he had come up with a counter for this situation. "Just a moment," I said. I was already almost done with bringing out the syringe. I knew that the time was getting a bit too long, so I decided to say something to him loud enough for them to hear. "I hope you understand why I'm doing this," I said. "I have no choice. Either I shoot you with this gun, or he kills you either way and then kills me after. I have no choice in this." He looked at me, his eyes filled up with confusion that almost broke my heart. The only consolation that I had for that was that it meant that my words were persuasive. If I had been able to fool him himself, then maybe I had fooled the

Rodrigo's POV I was utterly worn out from the treatment they had given me. Honestly, I would have thought that after going through the same routine over and over again, I would get used to it, but I never got used to the pain they inflicted. It was a shame that he got what he wanted, or at least a part of it. I made a point of not screaming, of not letting any sound of pain come out from me, or next when it was too much, and that seemed to annoy him. He also made me feel pain, which was a win for him. With the tiredness in my bones from two long weeks of torture, when I heard the sound of people going down the staircase, I wondered whether it was time for another round. I didn't prepare myself; I had done that a lot of times, and it hadn't helped at all. The only thing that I could do was to rest and relax my body even more. Maybe this time, it would be short. If not, I would go along with it and survive. He thought he could break me? Well, he had to think again. I was going to

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 131

Tanya's POV I felt hurt that he pushed me away, but I understood he only did that because he needed to. He couldn’t fight while being distracted by me. He wasn’t looking at me anymore; he shot the gun and immediately killed one of the opponents. If he continued like this, we might not even need to use any of the weapons I had on me. He tried to shoot again, and I knew with deadly accuracy, but it didn’t hit its mark. There was no sound from the gun at all, and I realised that it was only equipped with one bullet. “Get down,” he said, pushing me to the floor just as a barrage of bullets flew at us. “Honestly, is there no more bullet in this thing?” he asked me, looking frustrated. I shook my head, realising that was the case. The resigned look on his face told me he was about to give up. Without anything to fight with, it was just a matter of time before we were removed. I put my hand into my clothes and brought out a knife. “Here,” I said. He blinked in surprise, looking

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 132

Tanya's POV We were on the run, moving as fast as possible to escape them. I knew that once we were out of danger, it was the end for him. But if we couldn't make it out, then it was the end for us. Either of us would survive - either we did or they did. I heard a couple of gunshots fired at us as the people went after us with the speed of light. Naturally, they didn't want us to escape, following us into the passage that happened to be a tunnel. "Oh my god, we are sitting ducks," I thought despondently. With the nature of the tunnel and us crawling through it, it is evident that any bullet sent through would hit us automatically. The only thing that could stop it was the general curve of it as it descended downwards to somewhere that I hadn't any idea of. But surprisingly, the bullet didn't hit us. I turned to see Rodrigo holding the metal cover of the tunnel as a shield, using it to block anything from coming through to us. "Maybe it's not a disadvantage after all," I th

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 133: MY RECOVERY

Rodrigo's POV The truth is, I was not as bad as I thought regarding health. They hadn't poisoned me after all. I was only weak due to not eating enough food and also because of the vigorous torture I had gone through. Anyway, without being subjected to such conditions anymore and with dear Tanya taking care of me with much love, I was almost back to total health in just two days. I heard a knock on my office door. She had tried her best to convince me to stay at home and rest, but after one day of that, I wanted to be back on my feet. Anyway, on that first day, about a thousand people came to visit me, asking about my condition and such. It was annoying, especially when I wanted to spend all the time alone with Tanya. As long as I was at home, I wanted to be with her and have nobody else with me. The visitors were cutting the time, so I decided it would be best to meet them at the office instead. Also, in the office, I could spend my time putting things in place and getting to

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    EPILOGUE

Rodrigo POV I had to admit she was one of the strongest I had ever met. For some reason, she could keep up and pace with me, and that was also because she was pregnant. I felt happy knowing we had many more rounds like that to come in our lifetime. If that was the only compensation for the loss accumulated throughout the last couple of weeks, it was worth it. I got up from the bed, finally. After such a long time, I had been determined to leave her as soon as possible, but somehow, she had convinced me to stay. And stay I did, throughout the night, over to the following day, and even now. I didn't want to leave. Even though we didn't have sex throughout the entire night, the kisses and hugs we lovingly gave each other were enough to keep me excited all the way. She made a sleepy sound as I slipped away carefully, not wanting her to know I was going. Who knew how long I would stay back if she wanted me to? After all, I couldn't resist once, and most likely, I wouldn't be able t

Tanya's Pov By the time I met Dante, I found that he was making some phone calls. I had a sudden feeling that they were preemptory ones because he was planning something. I observed his expression for a moment, and upon seeing the grim expression on his face, I realised that he intended to leave. "Don't tell me..." I said once he was done with the call. He looked at me before managing a smile. "We are not safe anymore, not even me. I should have thought about it earlier. It's rather annoying that I had to figure it out from Rodrigo." I looked at him in surprise. I could vaguely remember Rodrigo telling me to tell him about this. Did that not mean he was not supposed to know about it yet, as I had not told him yet? "I asked him about where he was off to when I saw him acting all weird and uptight," he told me with a roll of his eyes. "Honestly, things don't always need a serious cryptic explanation." "Where is he now?" I asked, feeling like I was being left behind. I

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 148

Tanya's POV It took me a lot of serious searching to find him. Once or twice, I thought he was in the house and that Dante was bluffing. But after remembering the severe expression on his face, I decided to make sure that Rodrigo wasn't here before I went over to accuse Dante of lying. I found him eventually in a secluded room, staring into space despondently as if he were depressed by something. "Hey, Rodrigo," I said, my voice becoming very soft as I stepped in. Something told me he didn't want anybody to enter at this time; he wanted the moment of silence to himself. But I found myself intruding anyway. It had been so long since I had seen him, and I wanted to ensure he was well. He glanced my way, but suddenly, a light entered his eyes. He didn't look angry—wasn't angry like I thought he would be at my sudden appearance. Instead, he seemed happy. It made me smile, knowing that I still brought joy to him despite everything that had happened. The light in his eyes faded

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 147

Rodrigo's POV I didn’t protest anymore, deciding to hope for the best and let everything play out by itself. Tanya wouldn’t die; I knew it, and as long as she was alive, everything was fine despite everything I had lost and would lose. I had no other option than to let the driver take the car over to my mansion. I was shocked when he was granted access. It seemed that Tanya and Dante had modified the security system while I was gone. “It’s all well,” I thought to myself as I entered my room immediately after getting out of the car. I didn’t want to talk to anybody—though there was nobody for me to speak to in the first place. I needed some time to myself, time to meditate on everything that had happened so suddenly, and also some time to figure out what the next course of action should be. I was before my laptop, typing furiously as if my life depended on it because it probably did. I wouldn’t let the same situation repeat itself in my life more than once. But then again, it

Rodrigo's POV It took me quite a while before I realised that it was an ally standing in front of me. It wasn’t just any random person; it was Dante. “What are you doing here?” I asked him, raising an eyebrow. There was a good chance that he was here to help, but he could also have his motives. I wasn’t foolish enough to think that we were friends. We weren’t. “What does it look like I’m doing here?” he asked. “Saving you.” He went behind me, and with one swift motion, I felt the ropes on my hands slack. He had cut me loose. I looked at him again, realising that he wasn’t bluffing. It started to make sense now; he most likely had taken out all the men guarding me, one after the other, though they thought it was some accident. “Follow me,” he said. “I’ll get you out of here.” I didn’t want to accept his help, but I had no choice in the current situation. Since he had been able to manoeuvre his way through the many criminals with guns, there was a good chance he could do

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 145

Rodrigo's POV They were closing in on me. What's more, I knew it when I saw how everyone fighting around me kept an eye on me. I knew that it would be tough for me to escape. It didn't stop me from trying to free myself, though. Constantly, while they were fighting, I tried my best to loosen the ropes. I knew I would have a better chance of survival if I could utilise every skill at my disposal, and I couldn't do that if I were tied up. I was almost there; I could feel it already. All the ropes were nearly gone, and I was secure enough from the bullets flying across the place like rain. If I kept my cool and continued the process diligently, I would easily succeed in freeing myself. Then, I could either join the fight or escape entirely. Suddenly, I saw a man beside me, pointing a gun right at my head. "Don't move anymore," he said. "Do you think you can escape now?" I froze, realising that he wasn't bluffing; he would shoot me if I did anything funny. "Look here," I sta

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 144

Tanya's POV The leader I was to meet turned out to be Diego himself. Well, what did I expect? Seeing him, all the rage and frustration I felt as a result of how things had turned out came rushing back. After all the threats and everything, the man decided to kill me anyway. What, then, was the point of making me give him the flash disc? If he would fight to get me out of there, why didn't he do that from the start? I glared at him in annoyance as I opened my mouth to speak. From the look in his eyes, he already knew what kind of reaction to expect from me after what had happened. I only hoped he had a reasonable explanation awaiting. "Why?" I asked finally. It was only one word, but it carried the weight of all the emotions raging through me. I wanted to scream at him, to fight him—a couple of punches from me to him would release some of the anger and frustration. But somehow, I didn't move. "It's hard to explain and even harder to understand," he told me in a small voice. "But

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 143

Tanya's pov I couldn't understand why he would want me to hand it over to him if he had the power to threaten him. He made it seem as though he could keep him in check, but if he could, then why did I have to give him the document? Why couldn't he just break the both of us out of here so we could forget about the entire incident? All those questions were bubbling in my head, wanting desperately to burst out, but I kept them in. I knew when to speak and stay silent, and now was the typical time to remain silent. I couldn't precisely question him when he showed up out of nowhere to save my sorry ass. "Do we have a deal?" Diego asked him. From the amount of time he was spending to think about it alone, I knew that he had no intentions whatsoever to let me go out of here alive in the first place. The realisation made me even more glad of Dante's intervention, though I could not still understand many things about his actions and why he was doing them that way. Maybe it was not so

  • THE DON'S DESIRE    CHAPTER 142

Tanya's POV The shooting started unexpectedly. I was still thinking when he finished counting down, and his men automatically started firing at us. The man named John took cover immediately, narrowly missing getting shot himself. His men took arms as well, and it was a free-for-all. I tried to find Rodrigo in the commotion. It was a perfect chance for me to escape with him and forget all that was happening. But suddenly, I felt a hand cover my mouth. I struggled, but to no avail. The person holding me was too strong for me to resist. Finally, when I stopped struggling, I felt his grip relax a little as he turned me to him. I already knew it was not Rodrigo before I saw his face, and when I didn't recognise him, I got my confirmation. He put a finger to his lips, indicating that I shouldn't scream. If I had known what was going to happen next, I would have because suddenly, he brought out some ropes and tied my hands behind me. I attempted to scream now, but it was too
