I could feel the eyes of every officer on me as I walked out of the station, some weren’t looking fully, but they were stealing glances; I know what must be going through their minds. Why the hell did he keep such a thing a secret, but explaining to them wouldn’t solve anything, it’d just reopen a wound I’m trying so hard to close. Every human had different opinions, keeping Samantha’s identity secret was an opinion we both agreed on. Now that she was dead, I had to take all the blame; maybe if others had known she was my sister; they’d be trying to protect her too. However, one cannot trust anyone in this filthy world; not even those in the LAPD.
It was certain that Donald was going to find out sooner or later, but I didn’t expect it to be this fast; and most of all; I never expected the mother fucker to reveal my secret. Now that he has, guess there was nothing I could do. Not only did he reveal my secret, he also gave me a partner knowing fully well that I never like working with one. Samantha was my partner because she was my sister and it was the only way I could have kept my eyes on her.
Still, there was nothing I could do, he was my boss after all; and his words are final. I just hope this new girl he had brought in wasn’t the type who liked the job.
“Hey Dawson,” the voice sounded before I could turn the knob of the door that led outside the station; it was one of the men I was close to at LAPD. Officer Moore David.
“You know, I have always suspected you two were somewhat related; the resemblance is just getting clearer now that we know the full truth. Nevertheless, I’m so sorry for your loss bro,” Moore said, swinging his hands over my shoulder as we both stepped outside the station. Somehow, I hated the condolences, it wouldn’t bring Samantha back; so what was the need. The only thing that would clear the anger dancing inside of me was the death of whosoever pulled that trigger.
“I don’t need condolences from you Moore, I need the shooter's head.” I shrugged his hands off my shoulders and walked straight to my car. It was past nine already, and I felt like having a drink. Moore was still standing there when I drove off, he must be surprised to see me behave so harshly; at least they’d understand that I was angry, I just lost the only thing that matters to me in this world.
The bar was unusually scanty, as if they knew I was coming and I’d prefer a silent place for a drink. If I acted gloomy, Kate would start asking questions.
The Blue Scotch bar was one of the popular spots that most LAPD workers went to for a drink. I couldn’t figure out why it was scanty tonight, however; I was happy it was either way. At least I won’t have to worry about someone staring at me pitifully.
“What’s up big boy, you look like you’ve been shedding tears,” Kate’s voice sounded louder than normal in my ears, maybe because the place wasn’t crowded with police officers, and it seemed she already saw through my cover up. She was a very sensitive fellow, I had always teased her that she’d make a perfect detective.
“What makes you say that?” I asked, walking up to the counter, pretending not to get what she was blabbering about; with a forced grin on my face. Deep down I was hoping someone hadn’t briefed Kate of the incident. Things spread very swiftly, especially at LAPD.
“You don’t need to pretend Dawson, I heard already,” the words left her mouth freely, Kate was blunt as ever. She slid over my favorite and I caught the glass before it fell off the counter.
My grin reverted into a solemn look, I heaved a sigh and raised my brows, staring at her for a few seconds. Kate was a beautiful woman, a touch of African and American blood. Her skin was brown and shined like gold, her dark curly hair looked like she was always putting on a noodle-like wig. One thing that got me staring at her every time I was having a drink at the bar was her boobs, they were wildly attractive even though they weren't so big. Ever since I knew Kate, I had always wanted to get down with her, but we ended up having this sister-like friendship, although the urge still comes once in a while, but I easily brush them off.
I gulped down the old fashioned cocktail, with my eyes still glued to Kate, she was also staring at me; hoping I did confirm what she had been told. Sadly I didn’t, I left a dollar underneath the glass, started towards the door without saying a word, Kate didn’t say anything either. I heard her grab the glass and the dollar bill as I opened the exit door.
Sick and tired of hearing the news I saw for myself…

I swerved my old Mercedes into the hospital’s car park. I had to start my investigation tonight; and I was hoping I’d find something on Samantha’s body. Sleeping would be hard as from now, I had no time to waste; that shooter needs to be found fast. That was the only thing that would give me comfort now, not silly condolences and pitiful stares.
“Glad you came, just wanted to dial up your number,”
The voice sounded very familiar. I came out of my car to see her removing the blue detective gloves from her hand, it was Jane Johnson; my new partner.
“What the hell are you doing here,” the words left me, I couldn’t think it through. She was my partner now, but what could she be doing in the hospital my sister was brought to.
“Working on the case of course,” she replied, with a surprised grin; shoving the blue gloves into her leather jacket pocket, her gaze glued to me. She was a blonde, didn’t even see that when she was at the deputy’s office. Back then, I was too clouded with thoughts; I had a thing for blondes, but ain’t sure it’d work with Jane Johnson.
I opened my mouth to utter words but no sound came out, so she spoke instead; “I found something on your sister’s body,”…..
(DAWSON)Her words kind of calmed me down, not like I didn’t want her to help, but she can’t just go off, working on my sister’s case without me knowing. Guess I was wrong after all, Jane was the type who loved her job so much, and that would be a very big pain in the ass. Nevertheless, I was glad she found something, although; I didn’t show my happiness in my expression. I still put up a surprise face, which was probably telling her why she should not be here without my permission. What kind of detective who got hired at night, starts the job immediately that same night; it was kind of weird or rather impressive.I shoved my hand through my hair, working with a partner sickens me; especially when it was a woman.“What’d you get?” I asked, staring at her, she still had that confused stare; something that read ‘I was just doing my job’.“I think you’d want to see this one yourself,” She responded almost immediately and the confused stare vanished from her face, it was as if I’d just gi
(DAWSON)The rain had stopped finally, and the clouds were clear; indicating that there won’t be any downpour for a while, but my mind was clouded with thoughts. I should be grieving my sister’s death, but here I was, still having the face of the blonde woman all over my mind. Oh God! What have I gotten myself into, I tilted my head to shake off the thought, forcing it out of my mind; my hands were getting sweaty on the wheel. It was only a matter of time and I’d be at the scene where my sister was shot. I knew it was a futile attempt because the downpour would have washed off all evidence traces, but I just had to follow my heart, because it kept telling me to come down to the scene of the incident. Detective Jane Johnson was just a fluke, with time; we’d get familiar and all this infatuation would disappear; apparently; once I solve my sister’s case, I’ll tell Donald I don't need her anymore.
