The car stopped in front of the mansion. I kept my gaze steady on Henry Carter, not looking away.
“Mrs. Becker, let's go to my office. The housekeeper will take care of Theodor until we're done.” His voice was firm, leaving no room for argument. He got out of the car without waiting for a response.
I felt Theo’s small hand tighten around mine. His teary eyes stared at me, filled with worry.
“Uncle Henry is upset,” he murmured.
I ran my fingers through his hair, trying to comfort him.
“Don't worry about that now, my brave boy.” I smiled, even as nervousness tightened its grip on me. “I'll figure out what's going on, and then we'll talk, I promise.”
