Chapter 142: I Can't Bear It Anymore  

Doctor West's face contorted with sadness as he shook his head and spoke in a mournful tone, "I failed to protect her. My carelessness led her to become paranoid, and my impatience caused a heated argument that ultimately led to her death."

Charlie Sr. stood up straight, his expression becoming unreadable. Doctor West offered a word of caution, "Be careful," before turning around and walking away. Charlie Sr. silently watched as the doctor's figure grew smaller in the distance.

After extinguishing his cigarette, Charlie Sr. made his way to the morgue to meet with Director Gate.

"I'll be taking the corpse to Houston for the funeral," he informed the director.

Director Gate simply nodded in response.

Charlie Sr. then sought out Margret Owen, who he found standing alone in a corner lost in thought. His heart ached at the sight of her.

"It's getting late, let's go," he said firmly to her.

Margret turned to face him, her expression hostile. "I don't want to go with you," she stated coldly.
