Chapter One

DANIEL'S POV

The ring of the phone was loud enough to wake up the dead, in this case, it was loud enough for me to answer, right in the middle of an important meeting with my board members,

"Hello NaNa"

It was my grandma, and gods be damned, if I didn't answer, I would see a flying eighty four year old woman kicking my boardroom open, and I don't want that to repeat itself.

"Daniel, I've been trying to reach you all day".

"I'm sorry NaNa, I've been busy with work".

"You're always busy, you don't even have time for me" a lazy smile escaped my lips as I could envision her rolling her eyes and pouting her lips as a child.

NaNa Janice Lee was one woman I couldn't contend with, at eighty five she's still as strong as a bull, but last month she had a hip replacement and I have been a bit protective, I even hired the best nurses to look after her and a doctor on standby.

I dismissed the board members, they probably would be happy as this meeting has been on for over two hours.

"NaNa, I promise, I'll be home tomorrow" I informed her.

"No not tomorrow, I want to see you now, you know that new restaurant that opened just across your office building, I'm there, why don't you come keep your NaNa company"

she said in a sing song manner, one could hear the smile in her voice.

"Grandma, is someone there with you?"

Since last year my grandmother has taken it on herself to set him up with so many ladies and men, she says she doesn't mind, as long as I have someone and I know the reason she wants me to come have lunch with her is because there's a girl she wants me to meet.

"What?"

"Your hearing is fine grandma"

"There's no one with me Daniel, is it wrong for me to have lunch with my grandson ?"

she asked, probably scrunching her face and looking angry

"Ok NaNa, I'll be there in ten minutes"

I said as I ended the call, whomever my grandma wants me to meet up with will get disappointed when I tell her I'm not interested.

I called my secretary to Inform her to cancel my appointments for the rest of the day as I stepped out to go have lunch with my grandmother.

Just like I predicted it was a blind date and my grandma wasn't even here, how many times have she pulled this trick on me, four, five times? She invites me over, tells me the seat number and then when I go there, it's a different woman introducing herself as my date. I just stared and listened as my date kept on talking about herself and how awesome her job is.

"I'm sorry, uhh.. Chelsea?"

"Kelsey" she corrected, beaming wide

"I got to go, my lunch break is over"

"But you're the Boss, can't you stay longer?"

"I'm the boss, I'm to show good example"

I replied flagging the waiter to bring our bill, there's no way I'm spending another minute with Miss Kendra or whatever her name was, among all the ladies grandma has tried to set me up with, she's the worst, at least the others tried to get to know me, Miss Kelly here talked about herself for straight thirty minutes.

When the waiter brought the bill, I paid, thanking her for meeting up with me, I stood up to walk away, but she grabbed my hand.

" When are we having our next date ?"

I scowled

"How about never" I responded with much disdain, she released my hands immediately and I walked out of the restaurant, on my way to my car my phone rings, I know it's my Nana, the girl must have told her what happened, but I'm ready for whatever earful she's about to give, so I slid answer,

" Hello"

" What happened Daniel, why did you leave like that, you know what, I'd love to see you at home today, you better be back or else..."

"Yes NaNa" I replied, the or else threat is something she does during my teens, and it was really effective.

my driver picked me up and drove me to my mansion in the middle of Manhattan close to the beach, when I entered into the house it seemed gloomy for a reason, first the guards were looking sad, and then the maids, I could see a few with handkies cleaning up their inexistent tears, for a second I felt nonchalant, but then I thought what if something had happened to grandma, I ran inside the house only to see her seated with the nurse I hired, and some other maids standing around her, all with tissues and handkie, sighing deeply, I sat close to her,

"NaNa"

But she just humphed and looked away acting like a kid, I waved my hands, dismissing everyone.

I smiled and rest my head on my shoulder, noticing that get wrinkles were getting more visible, but being here and doing this reminded me that I didn't have anyone but her.

"NaNa, are you angry with me?" I asked, but she just humphed in response

"Please tell me why you're angry with me"

"You know why I'm angry with you"

"Is it because I left Chesney on the date?"

"Her name was Kelsey, son, and it took me one week to find someone that perfect" she exclaims

"I don't need someone who claims to be perfect In her job, NaNa, that girl was full of herself"

She placed her hands on mind, it shook slightly as her voice was filled with emotions

"I just want someone to be there for you"

"You're here for me NaNa" I replied

"Not forever Daniel, with the hip replacement surgery last year and the mild heart attack earlier this year, I came to realize, what if I go to sleep and I don't wake up again-" I had to cut her off

"Don't say that grandma, I hired the best medical staffs for you, you're not going to die"

"They are only humans Daniel, they can only do as much as they know, and by the way I'm eighty five, I'm sure the grim reaper is standing beside me everyday waiting for me to take the shot" she joked.

I was infuriated, I hated this, hearing that one day my grandma would be gone.

She smiled at me, and said softly,

" I'm sorry I said that, but it's the truth, and all I want is to see that you have someone here with you, you don't even have a girlfriend, I don't mind if she's talk or short, she doesn't have to be Asian you know"

I knew my grandmother was trying to coarse me, she's been doing this for years now. I rolled my eyes internally.

"I always told you, if it's a guy, I don't mind too, as far as you love him and he loves you too, but I do hope you are on top" she trails off.

This was getting embarrassing, I have to do something, grandma isn't going to give up and would still set up blind dates for me.

"Umm... grandma, I do have a girlfriend" I lied through my teeth

Grandma eyes lit up

"You do?" She sat up straight her eyes gleaming

" Who is she?, No, why haven't you brought her, so I could meet her?"

"She's out of the state, but when she returns, you'll meet her" I continued lying, but I can't back down now, it's been long I saw this kind of happiness from NaNa, saying I have a girlfriend made her this happy?

"I'm sure she's a lovely girl, for she to capture your heart" my grandma states, smiling widely at me with visible tears in her eyes, but now I can't back down, I need a girlfriend.
