Elena’s Pov
The night air hit me as I walked out of the hall, the heavy doors slamming shut behind me. My heels clicked on the pavement, and my legs were killing me, but I barely noticed. The whispers and camera flashes were gone now, replaced with my silent despair.
I needed to get back to my twins, Mia and Max. They were all that mattered. Lucas’s words still echoed in my mind—calling them bastards, denying they were his. It hurt more than anything else. He was my first love; the only man I ever gave my body to.
Struggling against the crisp wind, I Increased my pace. When I reached the mansion gates, the head of security, Robert, approached me. His face didn’t show the usual warmth.
“Elena,” he said quietly. “Mr. Lucas instructed me to pack your things. The twins will be brought to you shortly.” I was no longer “Mrs. Lucas” or “ma’am,” but Elena.
My heart sank and my eyes filled with painful tears. “No. I’ll get them myself.”
Robert shook his head, a flash of pity in his eyes. “I can’t let you in. Those are my orders.”
“Robert,” I pleaded, my hurt evident, “you know me. You’ve known me for years. You’ve watched my children grow up.”
He looked down, avoiding my eyes. “I’m sorry.”
I understood; he was only obeying his boss. I nodded, and he went inside. I stood outside, waiting. The cold caused me to shiver on the inside, but I didn’t mind. I couldn’t wait to hold my twins. After what felt like hours, the gates opened, and the nanny walked out with Mia and Max.
“Mommy!” Max yelled, running into my arms.
I hugged him tightly, tears rolling down my face. Mia followed, clutching my hand. I wiped my tears quickly, forcing a smile. “We’re going on an adventure, okay?”
“Where is Daddy?” Mia asked, looking above my shoulders.
“He will join us soon...” I lied.
“Okay, mummy…”
Later that night, I sat in a tiny hotel room, watching my twins sleep. Their soft breathing calmed me, but my mind was a mess. I couldn’t stop thinking about Lucas and what had happened. How could he believe I betrayed him?. Right before our children slept, their questions had been endless. Where is Daddy?. Why isn’t daddy tucking us in bed?, Where is grandma and Aunty Bella?. Again, I had to lie to them. Max and Mia were closer to Lucas than they were to me, they adored him. How would they feel with his constant absence in their lives?
My phone buzzed with a message. It was from Alex, Lucas’s PA.
( “Mr. Lucas said I should send 100,000 dollars to you, because of the children. He said they are innocent and they don’t have to suffer for your promiscuity.”)
Anger burned within me.
( “To hell with him. I don’t need his money… Neither do my kids…”)
I responded with shaky hands.
The next day, the media buzzed. My humiliation was all over the tabloids. I didn’t hurt so much for the embarrassment, as much as I was hurting that Lucas didn’t even give me a chance to explain myself. Desperate to escape the public humiliation, I decided to go to Singapore. My Uncle and his wife invited me after they heard what had happened. Shortly after the news was released, I got notifications of my account being frozen, all I had was gone. Lucas suddenly changed the name of the official beneficiary to the investments he had in my name. I was left with nothing. My social media account was plagued with angry comments. I had to deactivate my account. My whole world came crashing down. Luckily for me, I had a few dollar bills in the purse I took to the gala. I was able to get food for my children. I was feeding Max and Mia when Sabrina rushed into my hotel room, her eyes blazing with anger. “How could he have done that to you? It’s all over the gossip blogs…”
“I know nothing about his accusation, Sabrina…” I muttered, my voice breaking.
“I know, you will never cheat on Lucas, “But why would he suddenly do a DNA test?…You guys were the perfect couple.…” she said.
“I don’t know… something is wrong. I don’t know who is behind this…and I am too broke to pull any strings… I have nothing Sabrina..”. I sighed in frustration, hot tears burning in my eyes.
“Lucas does not deserve you, Elena… he is a pathetic coward, and he will regret his actions. Don’t ever go back to him…” She said, pulling me into a deep hug.
I leaned into her, thinking my support system was solid, but I wasn’t ready for what I discovered later that day.
Elena’s PovThat afternoon, I got a call from Lucas’s lawyer. He said I needed to come to the mansion to sign the divorce papers. Lucas had told me they would be sent to me, so I didn’t understand why I suddenly had to go there. I didn’t want to, but after thinking it over, I told Sabrina to watch the twins. She agreed quickly, and her eyes had a strange look that day—almost like she was happy about something. I ignored it and left. The mansion felt cold as I walked in. Memories of our happy moments flooded my mind, but I pushed them aside. I knew why I had been called here. They wanted to humiliate me one last time.“Isn’t it the slut?” Isabella sneered as soon as I stepped into the living room.I ignored her and tried to keep my head high. Fighting back tears, I glanced around the living room quickly. The room had once been filled with love, peace and laughter, but today it was filled with pain.“Sign the divorce papers,” Lucas said coldly. His voice felt like ice, and I couldn’t lo
Three years afterElena’s POVThe ballroom was buzzing with soft music, laughter, and the clinking of glasses. I stood at the center of it all, taking in the scene. It felt surreal to be here, at the top of my game. Eterna Connections, my matchmaking business, had grown into something I never imagined when my world came crashing down. Tonight was our first gala, and it was the perfect reminder of how far I’d come. I had turned my heartache into something powerful. I noticed a nervous-looking man standing by the champagne fountain. A young billionaire, out of place in a room full of confident people. I gave Claire, my assistant, a nod.“Introduce him to Margaret,” I said. “They’ll hit it off.”Claire moved quickly, and soon, I could see the two of them laughing, comfortably chatting. It felt good knowing I was helping people find real connections. I was building something meaningful now. It was time for my speech, and I had so much to say. In just three years, I had done this. Two mont
Lucas PovI watched the Gala on the screen and noticed she seemed different. It wasn’t just the wealth; there was something else about her. Elena had left just three years ago, completely broken, but the woman I saw wasn’t the wife I divorced. How had she managed to build so much wealth in just three years? I had been too hurt and devastated to think straight. I had questioned my decision to let her go over and over again. I felt I had been too harsh, but the reality of the DNA result staring at me stopped me from excusing her and running after my wife as she left the house that day, completely devastated. I had been conflicted, and my heart ached when my family humiliated her, but she caused it. She betrayed me. She betrayed our love. There was no way the DNA result was a mistake. It came from one of the best labs in the city.Since she left three years ago, my life has not been the same. Mia and Max were already a part of me, and it hurt to let them go. But I had to move on. She was
Elena POV“One dinner wouldn’t hurt, Elena…” Claira muttered, scrolling through the screen of her laptop. She was trying to get the details of my client for that day. My twins had just left my office, and I was exhausted from being goofy with them. But I had to work—one more client, and I would go home. Victor Hart had asked me to dinner three nights ago at the gala, and the flower bouquet propped on my table came from him. I knew he wanted more.“It’s not about the dinner, Claira… I don’t mind sipping wine and eating lobsters in an expensive restaurant with a rich man… Isn’t that every lady’s dream?” I asked, my tone playful.“You’re rich too, Elena… but what’s the issue? He’s waiting for your response. He’s willing to pick you up tonight at 8 p.m..”“The issue is… am I ready to give more? Victor is amazing, I’ve read about him, and he seems like a decent guy… Haven’t you gotten the details of the client yet?”“Still checking… I can’t seem to find the info… Just a first name…”“What
Elena’s POV Lucas didn’t say a word; it was like his tongue got stuck. He just stood there, his hands buried in his pockets, his gaze locked on mine. I saw a tinge of warmth and longing, but I could care less. “Well?” I asked, leaning into my chair confidently. “Are you going to keep standing there like a ghost from the past, or are you actually going to say what you came here for?” His jaw tightened, and he took a step closer. My heart fluttered, but I refused to acknowledge it. How could he still have this effect on me after all he did? After three whole years? My face hardened in defense. No, I wouldn’t give him that satisfaction. Not after everything. “You look…..different Lena,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. Lena?, that was what he called me, especially on nights when were in each others arms allowing our desires soar. Pushing down unwanted memories, I scoffed. “Of course, I do. I’m not the woman you humiliated, Lucas. I’ve changed. I’ve grown.” I leaned bac
Elena’s POV“Mummy, mummy!” Mia ran towards me as soon as she spotted me at the door. Jessica, their nanny, grinned when she saw how I picked Mia up and swung her in the air. It wasn’t long before I had played with them in my office, but I didn’t mind. I could do it all day without getting tired.“See what I drew, mummy… come and see my painting!” Max appeared, holding my hand and pulling me towards their room. My heart skipped a beat—Max was a striking resemblance of his father. He has Lucas's eyes, his nose, and his lips. “I never stopped thinking about you, Elena,” Lucas’s voice echoed in my mind. But I brushed it off as quickly as it came. Lies, all lies. And even if it was true, to hell with him!I followed Max into the drawing room, and he led me to sit down on one of their small chairs. Jessica stood at the door, staring at us in amusement. He pulled out a sheet of paper and held it up in my face. Trying to understand the painting, I squinted at it.Mia stood beside him and
My house was suddenly swarmed with police cars. Lights flickered on in the homes of my exquisite neighborhood, curious eyes peering out, wanting to know what had happened. The ambulance arrived, and Lucas didn’t let go of my hand. I didn’t know if he was conscious or not—his grip was weak, but he held on. My hands were soaked with his blood because I had tried to apply pressure on the wound.“Follow me to the hospital,” I told Claire, my voice barely above a whisper.Max and Mia were shaken. They had heard the sound, the noise downstairs, but I had told Claire to instruct their nanny to keep them in my bedroom. They couldn’t see this.My heart pounded as I kept muttering under my breath, “Please don’t die…”I couldn’t stop seeing it—him stepping in front of the bullet. He had taken a bullet for me. If he hadn’t been there, I would have been the one on the ground, bleeding profusely. Was I the target? But who would want me dead?A shiver ran down my spine.Lucas groaned slightly, snapp
Lucas's POVI woke up to the sound of monitors beeping, and a sharp pain shot across my abdomen. Stirring slightly, I tried to lift my hands…“Oh my God… he’s awake.”I heard a voice—familiar, yet it took me a moment to register. Slowly, I placed it. It was Isabella.I wanted to speak, but I couldn’t. My mouth felt heavy, like it was weighed down. I groaned slightly, still trying to process what was happening. Then it all came rushing back—the fake DNA result, Elena, the gunshot. She had been in danger. If I hadn’t stepped in to take the bullet, she would have been hit. That explained the monitors, the pain, everything. I was in a hospital. I had survived the gunshot. Thank goodness!.I tried to speak again, but my mouth was still too heavy. I struggled to open my eyes against the bright lights in the room, only to shut them immediately.“Lucas… we took the next flight as soon as we heard what happened,” my mother’s voice followed, thick with emotion. “Oh, my dear son, who would do thi
Lucas's POV"What do you mean she sent you out of her house?" I said, standing up from my bed.Why would Elena hire men when Robert is more than capable?“She recruited men from Toplik security. They’re good. I can’t set up surveillance on her anymore, or I’ll be discovered. Toplik trains the best," Robert said, his voice strained.“You should have insisted, Robert,” I said, running my hands through my hair and letting out a frustrated sigh.“I did, but she was adamant. I’m worried about the kids too.”“How about you speak to the head of her security? See if he’ll let you monitor them from a distance?”“He wouldn’t allow it. Toplik security is strict with their operations. They won’t let an outsider near them.”I fell quiet for a moment. Protecting her and the kids was one thing, but I also wanted Elena back under my roof. I wanted to reignite the flames between us. It was selfish, but I had to take my shot.“Did you check out the worker who picked up the package from someone…?”“Yes,
Elena's POV"I've been waiting forever," I said into the phone, trying hard to keep my anger in check."We're sorry, ma'am. We needed to ensure we sent men suited for your situation. Also, one of our best men, Ardon, had escorted a dignitary to France and just returned two days ago. Apart from the others, he is also the man for the job. He’s leading the team.""Fine. My assistant told me they're on their way." I pulled Mia to my side. She kept looking around in fear, and I hated that."Yes, they should be there any minute now.""Alright. Send me an invoice and any other information I need to know.""It's been forwarded to your official email.""Can they start working right away?" I asked, looking up to see Robert standing in the doorway of my bedroom. Sighing, I got up, my eyes blazing with anger."Right away, ma'am. They are officially your bodyguards now until you no longer need them.""Thank you," I muttered and ended the call."Ma’am, we need to move you away from—" Robert started
"What the hell are you doing in my house? How do you know my address? How do you know when the men came into my house?" I said, glaring at Robert. I wouldn’t deny the fact that I was relieved; if they hadn't stepped in, my kids could have been hurt. Though Claire claimed one of the armed men was in my bedroom looking for something, while the other one held the nanny—who had my kids in her arms—at gunpoint. What could they be searching for? I wasn’t sure. But then she had stumbled upon them when she got into my house, ran, and hid in the closet of the guest room. That was when she called me.Hearts pounding, I had called Lucas, and he had the audacity to make a joke out of the whole situation."Ma'am..." Robert started."Now I’m 'ma’am'? What happened to Elena? I’m suddenly ‘ma’am’?" I said, throwing my hands in the air and shaking my head simultaneously.I saw the strain on his face. He had refused to let me enter Lucas’s mansion three years ago. He had stripped me of the respect he o
Lucas’s POVAs soon as Elena hung up on me, I exhaled, trying not to get upset. I had hurt her, and I had to endure whatever she threw at me in the process of trying to win her back.“Lucas, your chicken broth will get cold. You should eat it…” Mother said from behind me. I turned and walked to the dining area, exhaling softly due to the sharp jabs of pain I was feeling at my side. My mansion had been unusually quiet since I sent Sabrina packing. She had insisted it was a lie, but the evidence I had was more than enough proof. Since she left, my mother and sister had been extra cautious around me, and scared because of the attack I had at the hospital. As soon as the doctor arrived that day, they gave me IV medication to reverse the paralysis, but none of it worked until about an hour later, just like the woman had said.Who was she?!The police had searched the entire perimeter of the hospital, but it was like she vanished into thin air. The two bodyguards assigned to the entrance o
Elena’s POVA week had passed since I was discharged from the hospital, and everything still seemed vague. At different times, police officers visited my house, but there was no tangible information. I had to work from home, and some of my clients had to have their consultations with me via video conference. Victor had been calling to ensure I was fine, and despite my refusal, one of his bodyguards was sent to my house because the agency I reached out to was dragging their feet.I was overwhelmed, and I jumped at every sound at night. My beautiful life was suddenly exchanged with uncertainty. Still, I tried to remain positive. The police would get to the root of the matter. I kept telling myself over and over.It was time for my check-up, and I needed to visit the hospital. My driver drove me in my car while a police car trailed behind me. All the way to the doctor’s office, I refused to think about Lucas—or his touch! Especially his touch! One week, yet the memory of his hand around
Lucas's POVWhen I entered my hospital room, my phone rang. Steadying my breath, I picked up. It was Robert. We’d already spoken earlier that day, so when his call came through, I knew something important had happened."What's the latest development?" I asked, lying down on the bed. I rubbed my temple, trying to ease the headache that was gnawing at me."The attacker has been caught by the police, but he poisoned himself before they could get any useful information out of him.""What?!" I sat up, panic flooding through me. This was no ordinary attack. Anyone willing to go as far as covering their tracks with murder wasn't just an average person."Yes, but just before the police picked him up, he met with a man on the outskirts of the city. We’ve been tracking this man. So far, his activities seem normal, but we’re not sure if he’s connected to the attempt on Elena’s life. He’s our closest link, though.""Are the police aware of this?""No, they aren’t. He was arrested only minutes aft
Lucas’s POV “Lucas... I’m so glad you’re okay,” Sabrina said, as soon as I walked into her hospital room. She forced herself to sit up, her hand pressed to her side. The pretense was nauseating. I said nothing, merely observing her as my mother and sister rushed to her side. “Lucas, I couldn’t stand it when they told me you had only a few hours to live... I was devastated. I had to step in and give you my liver... It was either that or you dying,” Sabrina said. The past three years rushed through my mind like a whirlwind—every action, every gesture, all of it a lie. What if I had considered her and married her after Elena left? I would’ve been marrying a pretender. She framed her own sister, her own flesh and blood. Abandoned her niece and nephew in a hotel room—my kids. My blood boiled, and I turned away, trying to hide my anger. Now she was here, taking Elena’s glory once again. Were they even aware that Elena was the one who gave the liver? “Lucas...” Isabella called out to me.
Elena's POV "So, I’ll see you around?" Victor asked as we pulled up in front of my house, still holding my hand. "Well, maybe, Victor..." I said with a smile, glancing at my house. All I wanted right now was to hold my babies. "Come on, we have that pending dinner, Elena." "I need to recover..." I paused, almost saying, "I need to recover fully from the surgery," but instead, I settled for, "I need to recover from all this. And besides, my attacker is still out there. I can’t be going about my normal routine for now..." "That’s true... How about we have dinner at your place or mine? I’ll hire professionals to set up everything—the table, the food, the atmosphere..." "Victor..." I nudged him, trying to keep things light. "Come on, Elena. I’m not about to let someone else whisk you away..." By "someone else," I sensed he meant Lucas. A twinge of worry crept in. Was this turning into some sort of competition to win my heart? I pushed the thought aside, smiling at Victor. His hands
Elena's POV"Lena? That's a nice nickname..." Victor said a few minutes after we left the hospital. My driver was following behind us in my car, because Victor had insisted that I ride with him."Yeah.." I responded quickly. I didn't want to have any conversation about Lucas, especially not with Victor, so I shifted my gaze to him and said, "Thank you, Victor. Thank you for looking out for me.""You're welcome, Elena. So, tell me, what happened between you and Lucas Sterling? I mean, he's a catch..." Victor said, smiling at me.Is he kidding me? Didn’t he read the news three years ago?"I'm sure you read about the scandal, and I honestly do not want to go over that anymore, Victor. It's been three years, and I’d like to keep it buried..." I said, adjusting in my seat so I could gaze at the sky."Well, I heard about a scandal three years ago, but the details were vague. Specifically, because I was uninterested. Scandals are no longer news for we billionaires, so when I see one, I could
