Elena POV

“One dinner wouldn’t hurt, Elena…” Claira muttered, scrolling through the screen of her laptop. She was trying to get the details of my client for that day.

My twins had just left my office, and I was exhausted from being goofy with them. But I had to work—one more client, and I would go home. Victor Hart had asked me to dinner three nights ago at the gala, and the flower bouquet propped on my table came from him. I knew he wanted more.

“It’s not about the dinner, Claira… I don’t mind sipping wine and eating lobsters in an expensive restaurant with a rich man… Isn’t that every lady’s dream?” I asked, my tone playful.

“You’re rich too, Elena… but what’s the issue? He’s waiting for your response. He’s willing to pick you up tonight at 8 p.m..”

“The issue is… am I ready to give more? Victor is amazing, I’ve read about him, and he seems like a decent guy… Haven’t you gotten the details of the client yet?”

“Still checking… I can’t seem to find the info… Just a first name…”

“What’s the name?” I asked.

“John…”

“Just John?”

“Yeah… Maybe he’s a wealthy dude who wants to stay lowkey. I mean, only rich people can afford our services.”

A familiar sound buzzed. The client was around. It was my secretary notifying me. Claira went out to meet the client and invite him to my office. I stretched to prepare myself for the client, shutting my eyes in the process. I couldn't wait to go home to see my twins, they were my world.

I heard the door open, and I looked straight ahead. But I froze. Lucas was standing at my door, his eyes carrying messages I couldn’t decipher. Was that regret I saw? Or was it pain?

My anger rose. Memories of the humiliation I had gone through surged through my system, and my eyes turned cold. What the heck?!

“What are you doing here?” I asked, my voice holding rage. I could barely keep my breath steady.

“Elena…” He muttered, his tone soft. It enraged me more. I had desperately longed for that same tone three years ago, but I got nothing. What was he doing here? Again, was that regret I saw in his eyes?. I didn’t care. All I wanted was for him to feel every pain I felt three years ago.

“Elena is busy…” I heard Claira say in the background.

“I’m sure she wouldn’t mind…I will only take a minute...” Victor Hart’s masculine voice followed.

He came in behind Lucas and walked up to me with flowers. Lucas stared ahead, but he was quiet. He was observing me, his hands in his pocket. Why was he in my office?!. The Audacity!

“I know you’re busy, but I came to ask about dinner again in person……” Victor said, his eyes filled with longings.

“I will be there, Victor… You can pick me up at 8 p.m..” I muttered, gazing into his eyes. Victor smiled, pecking my hand one more time.

“I’ll see you soon…” He winked at me, nodding at Lucas, who was still standing at the door. Victor Hart probably felt Lucas was my client, he didn’t know he was my Ex-husband.

My heart erupted with satisfaction. I wasn’t the Elena who Lucas humiliated three years ago. I had my own money, and a handsome billionaire who would fall flat at my feet.

Victory shimmering in my eyes, I looked at Lucas.
