A DANGEROUS OBSESSION

Mark sat in his dimly lit apartment, staring at his phone, his thumb hovering over Jack's contact. The events of the previous night replayed over and over in his mind like a broken record. He couldn’t shake the feelings of guilt and longing that consumed him. Finally, he gathered enough courage and pressed the call button, his heart pounding in his chest.

Jack picked up after a few rings, his voice sounding slightly irritated. "What’s up, Mark?" he asked, clearly busy with something.

Without preamble, Mark blurted out, "I need to talk to you about what happened the other night."

Jack sighed, already sensing where this conversation was heading. "Mark, is this about Amelia again?" he asked, his tone more resigned than angry.

Mark hesitated for a moment, then confessed, "Amelia hasn’t called me or texted me since then. She hasn’t reached out at all, Jack." His voice was a mix of desperation and confusion, like a man grasping at straws.
