CHAPTER 1: BETRAYAL

“You're three weeks pregnant,” the doctor said to Ava.

A mix of emotions welled up inside her.

I… I am pregnant,” she stuttered.

The female doctor nodded. “Yes, miss Ava. You're pregnant.”

This had to be the best news ever. Excitedly, she dashed out of the hospital into the night. She got home and quickly got herself dressed. There was no better time to tell Ryan about this than tonight.

A couple of moments later, her eyes were almost pressed against the glass of the cab's window. The heart of the twenty-five years old damsel was filled with excitement. It was only a matter of minutes before she would break the sweetest news to her boyfriend, Ryan, who happened to be the richest bachelor in the country and eldest son of Mr Blake. His family was the richest in the entire country, with the most flourishing businesses in their name.

However, there was just one organization that no one marched. Avalon corp… they were the most powerful business enterprise. But the family wasn't based in the country.

It was without a doubt a joyous feeling to be the woman of someone of that status, despite being an orphan.

“Oh my goodness!” She gasped in wonder as she caught sight of the resort.

The Paradise resorts and suites were owned solely by Ryan's family. And yes, it was out of reach for many people. It was a place where only the richest entities from around the world would converge.

“You must be powerful, ma'am,” the cab driver said to her.

Her eyes fell on the gold-plated invitation card in her hands. That was her ticket to enter into the resort for tonight's big event. And her man had sent it to her directly. Without a formal invitation, no one was allowed to get in.

“Maybe,” she replied with a knowing smile.

The cab drove past the main gate and cycled through the driveway before coming to a stop. Ava paid him and stepped into the night's embrace. Despite being of a low status, she did well to dress the best she could. A red gown and red heels with earrings and a necklace. Ryan had gotten them for her the last time he took her shopping. That was the first and last time she let him buy things for her. Out of fear of being accused of mooching off Ryan, she preferred to stay with the little she earned.

She was walking freely towards the entrance of the conference hall when she was interrupted.

“Hey, orphan!” The familiar voice called out to her arrogantly.

Her feet came to a stop in that instant. She recognized the voice and turned. Molly, Ryan's younger sister who despised Ava, walked up to her.

“I have a name, Molly,” Ava pointed out. “You don't have to be mean all the time.”

Molly chuckled in a vile manner. “This event is not a place for lowlives like you, bitch. How the heck did you get in here?”

Ava stroked her cheek while trying to keep her anger low. “I was invited. And here is my card.”

She waved the luxurious card at her. But then, Molly bursted out into laughter.

“You really do think my brother sent that to you.” Molly chuckled. “You are too lousy. Stop mooching off my family.”

Ava was confused. Of course, Ryan invited her to celebrate his announcement as heir to the family's business.

“Your brother loves me, Molly,” Ava replied. “I am not mooching off your family. What I feel for your brother is genuine.”

When Molly said nothing to her but just scowled, she turned and headed to the entrance.

The two security dudes crossed their hands. She flashed her card and was allowed to pass.

Ava threw a last glance at Molly. There was a smile on her face that Ava could not seem to understand.

“Hmm,” she exhaled deeply and walked in.

The interior of the hall was filled with mind-blowing ecstasy. Chandeliers hung from top and threw different colors at the place. The red curtains and marble floor even increased the ambience of the room. However, through the mixture of wealthy looking men and women, Ava's eyes were searching for Ryan.

Ryan stood grinning from ear to ear with a glass of wine in his hand . With him was Kristie, daughter of a major business owner. His happiness was suddenly cut short when his eyes saw Ava standing like a lost soul. Oh well, she was lost.

“Damn it!” He muttered suddenly.

“Is there a problem?” Kristie asked him softly.

He smiled partly and patted her shoulder. “Not at all,” he replied. “Give me a second, please.”

By now, Ava already saw him. She watched as he emptied his glass and dropped it on the table. Then, he walked to her gallantly in his tuxedo. Ava was expecting a hug from him. But it didn't come. Instead, he threw a confusing question at her.

“Ava, what are you doing here?” He asked suddenly with an uneasy look registered on his face.

Ava chuckled amidst the confusion registered in her head. “What…do you mean, Ryan? Of course, I came here for you.”

Ryan cocked his head uncomfortably. “How did you get in? Not everyone is allowed to come.”

A wave of disappointment blew across Ava's face. Why was Ryan being that way? He sent her the invitation card. But then, he was asking her a silly question.

“What do you mean, Ryan? You sent the invitation card to me, obviously. Hold on a second. Was it… not you? Then, who?”

Ryan sighed heavily, a scowl forming on his face.

“I have good news, baby,” she said with a smile.

“You should walk away, Ava,” he replied in a firm tone.

Just when she was about to throw the questions in her head, the voice of Mr Mr Blake boomed through the microphone.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my son and heir to my business, Ryan Blake, to the podium.”

The sound of applause filled the entire hall. Kristie walked to Ryan and locked her arm in his.

“Sweetheart, you should be on the podium right now.”

Sweetheart…. Ava's heart was beginning to beat heavily. She definitely didn't hear her correctly.

“Ry..Ryan, what is…going on?” She stuttered.

Without a word to her, Ryan turned and walked away with Kristie. Ava stood in shock and frustration. She was battling with her reality.

Ryan mounted the podium and began to speak.

“I thank everyone who has come here tonight to celebrate with me. I'm grateful to all of you. As a matter of fact, the Blake Haven group of companies will only get bigger and bigger.”

Applause went around the hall again.

With a broad grin, he continued, “One more thing. Tonight, I'd love to let you all know that my status as the richest bachelor will soon be vacant for another person.”

Ava grinned. She suddenly forgot about the disappointment she felt not long ago. Ryan was finally going to announce their relationship. Not just that, but he was going to make their marital intention known.

While the people cheered, Ryan slipped out a diamond ring from his pocket and descended from the podium. To Ava's shock, he walked straight to Kristie and went down on one knee. Her heart was tearing apart. This wasn't happening. Ava had come with good news— she was pregnant for him.

With the microphone still attached, Ryan asked the question.

“Kristie, will you marry me?” His voice boomed through the speakers.

CHAPTER 2: SHE'S PREGNANT
Kristie used both hands to cover her face. Then, in the most tender tone, she blurted out, “Yes, yes. I will marry you, Ryan.” Ava felt her world crumbling right before her own eyes. Tears formed around the corners of her eyes and rolled down. Her heart was pounding. She had come with good news. But then, her pregnancy might have been her worst mistake. With a broken and shattered heart, the damsel found her way out of the hall. She walked to the corner and began to cry out her heart. “Take this,” Molly said and threw two dollar notes at her. “You will need it to take care of your wretched body.” Ava couldn't say a word. Her tears would not let her. As a matter of fact, Ryan held the answers to the questions in her head. Molly chuckled and continued. “In case you're wondering, Ryan never sent you the invitation card. I did. I wanted a loser like you to see that my brother has finally come to his senses.” She hissed. “Get out of here before you're thrown out.” She left Ava a

CHAPTER 3: REGRET AND RESOLVE
Cold beads of sweat formed on the forehead of Ryan. His eyes had dilated fully as he stared at the medical report in his hand. “What is it, Ryan?” Erik asked inquisitively. He was concerned about his friend. When Ryan raised his face, it was entirely flushed. Agitation was creeping all over him.“What's going on, man?” Erik asked again. “Who sent that to you?”“Ava,” Ryan replied. “Ava is carrying my child.” The statement hit Erik. “What the—?” Ryan slammed the medical report right on the table and sprang on his feet, throwing quick strides as he left the office. “Hold on, Ryan,” Erik said and followed immediately. Ryan got to the secretary with a serious look in his eyes. “Who sent this to me? Where's the lady?” “Sir, one of the security men at the gate brought it. He said a lady desperately wanted to see you. She had the envelope with her.” The secretary went on to describe the person in question. Ryan's heart exploded. It was Ava. He had no idea she was pregnant. He dashed

CHAPTER 4: THE RETURN
Two days later, Ryan was idling over a bottle of wine in his office— an attempt to clear the bustling thoughts in his head. He was yet to get any handy information about Ava. The door opened and his friend, Erik, walked in swiftly. “Good morning, Ryan,” he greeted him as he got to the table. “Any luck?” Ryan asked immediately, waving the greeting off. Erik heaved a sigh and stroked his hair. “Nothing yet, man.” Ryan punched hard on the table. “Ava couldn't have disappeared into the thin air, Erik. That's not even possible.” Erik straightened his posture and rubbed both hands together. “Well, it seems so. I went to where she used to work. And yes, the restaurant has been shut down. Perhaps, they moved.” There was a moment of silence. Ryan said nothing. His frustrations were visible on his face. He thought about the pregnancy. Ava didn't say a word to him about it. He wanted to make things right. But Ava was not giving him the ground to do so. “Hmm,” Erik exhaled. “Ryan,

CHAPTER 5: FRESH WOUND
Ryan's whole body became seriously cold as he watched the entire mind-blowing scene unfold right before him. Ava was the mysterious new chairwoman of such a big business brand…she was married…not just married, but with kids. His world was spinning. “How was your trip?” Ava asked the little ones while fiddling with their hairs. She paid little to no attention to the presence of Ryan there. Ryan stood like a lost sheep, not knowing which move he ought to make. “Adrian was asleep all through the journey!” Little Adrianna said with a loud chuckle. Adrian tucked his dad's hand in protest. Then, he said in protest, “Dad, you know that's not true. Can you tell mom here that Adrianna has told a lie against me?” Ava giggled and looked at Arnold, his husband. “Who should I believe?” Arnold simply grinned and threw his hands in askance, a gesture that meant she should not drag him into the argument. “Av…” Ryan almost called her name. But it felt as if his tongue had been

CHAPTER 6: JUST BUSINESS
Many hours later, when night had come, Ava was dressed in her pajamas and idling with her system by the poolside. She lay on her back in a slant position while punching a few commands into her keyboard. Arnold walked to where she was with a tray settled on both hands. He was carrying a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. “Hello, pretty,” he said with a grin on his face as he dropped the tray on a stool. Ava threw a glance at him and continued what she was doing. “What are we celebrating?” Arnold giggled and rubbed his palms together. “Well, let's just say it's your revenge cause.” She paused for a while and looked at him. The memory of the shock on the face of Ryan flashed through her mind. It felt so cool to see the powerful Ryan Blake shaking before her. He hurt her because she had no influence at all. Now that she does, there's no reason to hold back on him. “Nice job, by the way,” she said and smiled. Arnold sat on the chair by her side. “What?” He asked, feigning i

CHAPTER 7: BROKEN PIECES
When Ryan got back home, he was not in his right frame of mind. The thought of Ava occupied every part of his thoughts. As a matter of fact, the rest of his day was ruined because of her. He parked his car in the garage and walked into his house. There on the couch, Kristie was idling with her phone. On seeing him, she dropped it and stood up. Her face was full of smiles. “Hey, baby boy,” she said with a smile. “You're finally back.” She walked to him and hugged him tightly. Then, she pecked him on the cheek. Ryan was withdrawn. As a matter of fact, he had always withdrawn himself from her. But with every passing moment, he started trying to love her. After all, they were already married. And Ava was gone from his life. Everything got swept under the carpet with because of the return of Ava. He never expected it. At least, not in this manner. “Sweetheart, I'm exhausted,” he managed to say. He reluctantly stroked her back before separating himself from her. “I.. have to f

CHAPTER 8: AT THE LOUNGE
Kristie stood with both arms crossed over her chest. The look in her eyes was clear enough. She simply needed an answer from Ryan. But it was not coming. Ryan never expected she would be standing right behind him. His heart was beating heavily. He already told her that there was no problem. What lie would he tell to cover up his tracks? “She?” Erik asked on the phone. “Who are you talking about?” No response came. Ryan was still trying to figure out what he needed to say to Kristie. “Hello, man,” Erik said to him. “Are you still there?” Ryan forced a chuckle. “Yes, man. Please, I have to attend to my wife right now. You know how women can be.” He tried to sound as jovial as he could. But Kristie was obviously not going to buy the damn thing. She just needed an answer. Ryan hung up and focused on Kristie. “Hmm,” he exhaled heavily. “Is dinner ready?” Kristie glared at him. “So, you are not going to answer my question.” Ryan still kept mute. He was still processing hi

CHAPTER 9: SHE'S HERE
“Is this a joke?” Erik asked. Ryan sighed heavily and clasped his palms together. His head was about to blow up because of the numerous thoughts he had in it. “I wish I was simply trying to pull your legs,” Ryan replied. “I am being serious here.” Despite how serious he sounded and looked, his best friend was not ready to believe what he was saying. Erik chuckled and slapped Ryan's knee cap gently. “Come on, Ryan. You told me you would move on from your past. Believe it or not, Ava is gone. There's no way she's coming back.” He giggled. “Chairwoman? That's the creepiest thing I have heard from you in a long while.” Ryan grabbed his glass and emptied it. “You really think I'm joking about this. Look at me, Erik. You know when I'm being serious. I couldn't have called you out here suddenly simply to crack something silly.” Erik could clearly see the seriousness in the eyes of Ryan. He adjusted his position. “Are you saying she's really back? And you mean Ava is the chairwoman of

CHAPTER 10: STOLEN MOMENT
Time quickly came to a pause for Ryan. The last gulp at his wine seemed to have stuck right in his throat. He wanted to talk but could not. Ava was right there, the very woman he loved. She was at the lounge. Ava's eyes caught sight of Ryan there. But she was not moved. The lady seemed to care little about his presence. Ryan was struck by her presence. Erik too could not believe the transformation his eyes were seeing. Ava was no longer the average girl he used to know. The one standing right before their eyes was a powerful lady. She was wearing a very thick hooded sweatshirt, a pair of black pants that seemed to shimmer in the interchanging blue and red lights of the lounge, and a pair of boots. Her hair lay loosely over her back and shoulders. “Damn it, bro,” Erik muttered. “Ava is really back. And she's in goddess mode.” Ryan kept staring at her. He thought of waving at her. But his muscles would not seem to agree with him. “You should go to her now,” Erik chipped in. Ryan l
