MY NEW REALITY

Damien

The drive to Onyx Club is a quick one as my mind is miles away. I am so consumed with questions as to why my father would let me get married to his driver’s daughter. A girl I guess is way below my league and not my type of woman.

“We are here Sir”.Mr.Smith says drafting me back from my thoughts.

I got out of the car without acknowledging him and I headed straight to the  VIP session of the club. Yeah, I am Damien Donovan and I have exclusive services wherever I go. I get seated at my usual spot and wait for Evans.

“Yo bro where the hell are you?” I say to him the moment he picks up my call.

“Shut the fuck up man, I will be there in a few mins. Lily needed my help with something,” he replies.

“Alright, waiting for you.”

Lily is Evans’s college girlfriend well now fiancee and to be honest I don’t like her.  She’s always blaming me for making Evans do things a man who is in a committed relationship is not supposed to do. I am partly to be blamed but hey Evans is a fully grown adult who can think and act for himself. I hope when they get married it will not change the brotherly bond between us. Come to think of it when we both get married. I shake my head in disbelief.

“Yo man! Wait a minute you look like shit man. What’s going on with you with that glass of whiskey on a Monday afternoon.” Evans says as he takes a seat.

“You can say that again, Today is a really bad day for me bro,” I tell him as I sip my glass of whiskey.

“What’s up? Bad business decisions or you lost a business deal?”.Evans asks with a look of concern on his face.

“Far from that bro. You just won’t believe what I just found out today.”

“Damien don’t tell me you’re going to die?” He asks

“What I found out is worse than a death sentence," I retorted.

“Yoo you can’t be serious.”Evans shakes his head in disbelief

“Do I look like I am joking with you?”.

“Then spill whatever is going on with you 'cause you look like shit,” he yells at me.

I remove the letter from my pocket and hand it over to him to read.

“What’s this?” he asks me.

“You’ll find out when you read dumbhead,” I reply as I roll my eyes at him.

Evans takes the letter from me glances through and then looks back at me. His face now looks like he has just seen a ghost which makes me burst into laughter.

“Hahahahaha!Your face looks like you just saw a ghost.”I say as my laughter subsides.

“Damien this is some serious shit,” Evans says with a look of confusion on his face.

“Very serious Evans. I just don’t understand why my father would make such a demand. You know me very well that I am not interested in having a family  to talk more of even having a wife.”I rant to Evans.

“I get you but have you thought of this as your father’s way of making you have the family you don’t want? The lady in question, do you know her?” Evans asked me.

“Evans I have no fucking  idea what she looks like.”

“Really? But this letter, states she’s the daughter of your driver. So how come you have never met her before?” he begins to ask more questions.

“You're right but I have never seen her before although Mr.Smith has been working for us for a very long time,” I answer.

“So does Mr.Smith know about this ?” he asks as he begins to sip his glass of whiskey.

“He and his daughter were informed some days ago according to my father’s lawyer. So yeah he does.”

Evans continues to bombard with questions“Have you spoken to him about it? Cause he’s going to be your father-in-law.”

“Well, I haven’t because right now I am really confused and I have a lot going on in my mind. He’s the last person I would like to rage on. He’s innocent so I prefer not to speak to him now as  I am very angry with my father’s decision.” I say with a pinch of agitation in my voice.

“That’s fine brother but right now what next?” Evans with a concerned look on his face.

“I am to get married to her in two weeks in a grand wedding ceremony,” I reply in the most sarcastic tone ever.

“What? Two weeks is such a small time to get to know her. Your father planned this Damien because all this leaves you with no choice but to go ahead with everything that has been said in this letter.”Evans reckons in a defeated tone.

“Yeah, that’s Williams Donovan for you. He always gets his way around things even in his death.”I say as I pour myself a glass of whiskey.

“Does that mean you’ll no longer be the most eligible bachelor and playboy of Seattle?”Evans asks this question with a mischievous grin.

“Ha, that’s what you think? Nothing, not even my father’s last wish will stop me from enjoying the beautiful ladies of Seattle and beyond. And honestly, after I will get a  divorce  because I do not see myself ever settling with a girl whose father is my driver for long.” I tell Edward in a disgusted tone.

“Really Damien, you gotta stop this attitude of talking down on people. You never know what can happen within one year. Who knows might end up falling in love with her and even want to start your own family. This is life brother, a lot of unexpected things can happen  so be mindful of how you speak.”Evans cautions me.

“Whatever, Evans, but I plan to just marry her, continue to enjoy my lifestyle, get my rightful ownership of my father and then divorce her. Yeah, this plan is perfect.” I smile to myself as I finally have it all figured out now.

“Seriously Damien? You got to be kidding me. You have to grow the fuck up man we’re growing. You can’t be thinking like that. You haven’t even met the lady in question and you’re already talking of divorcing her. Damien you’re my best friend, I know you better than anyone in this world but sometimes especially now I feel like I do not know you.” he says in a low tone.

“What do you mean by that?”I question.

“Damien I mean your nonchalant behavior gets worse as the day goes by. You need to change your mindset.”  Evans replies, his shoulders slumping.

I shoot back, my tone sharp, “Evans just stop it. You don’t know how it feels to be all alone in this world and have scars I don’t talk about. You of all people shouldn’t judge the way I have chosen to live my life. I guess this conversation is over. See you at my wedding in the next two weeks and yeah you’re my best man.”

Evans begins to plead with me as he says“Damien don’t run from this conversation. We need to have this conversation it is important please.”

“There’s no need to have this conversation Evans let’s just end it. I am not ready to open up any other wounds. I already have enough issues to handle. Thank you for listening to me as you always do. I appreciate it.” I tell him as I look away.

“You’re most welcome bro and hey I respect your plan and decision. I support you in whatever you intend to do .”Evans's voice cracks with emotion.

“Alright brother, thank you very much. I would like to take my leave now.”I say, glancing around the empty VIP session of the club.

Evans nods understandingly, “Likewise bro”, he says patting me on the shoulder.

We make an exit from the Onyx Club and head to the car park.

“Hey Mr.Smith!”, Evans shouts out and goes ahead of me to talk about God knows what with him. I make my way to the back seat of my SUV and patiently wait for Evans to finish talking with Mr.Smith.

While I waited I replayed the conversation that I just had with Evans in my mind and I decided to have a meeting with Mr.Smith when we got home and talk through this whole marriage arrangement with him. As Evans said he’s going to be my father so I should start to acknowledge him. I don’t know if it is wise of me to even ask him to bring his daughter over to the house tomorrow morning before our official meeting with Mr Luis.

I think I might do just that so that we can all easily navigate our way around this whole charade.

“Sorry about that Sir, your friend had a lot to say to me”, Mr.Smith says nervously and starts the car.

I clear my throat and say “No problem about that. Evans can be a parrot sometimes. Mr.Smith, I would like to have a meeting with you and your daughter,  or should I say, my soon-to-be wife tomorrow.”

” Alright, sir. Please what time?" he responds warmly.

“Tomorrow after work would be perfect. I guess you know the issue on the ground right now. So I would like to meet your daughter before we meet with Mr.Luis.” I suggest, hoping he's on board.

‘Well noted Sir I will make sure she sees you tomorrow.” he responds with his tone cautious.

“That would be great. Mr.Smith, I would prefer it if you start addressing me as Damien since you’re going to be my father-in-law in a couple of days.”I say this with a lot of sarcasm.

Mr Smith replies with a look of relief on his face“Okay Sir, sorry Damien.”

The rest of the drive back home was very calm and to be honest I do feel better after my talk with Evans. I check my  Rolex and I realize it is half past 5 pm. I give Miss Rosie a call to tell her that I would love to have Spaghetti and meatballs with freshly made orange juice for dinner.

I arrive home at exactly 5:45 pm and head straight to my room to have a cold shower. I take much longer in the shower today because man has to cool off. It’s been a very eventful day for me. Normally on a Monday night, I would have one of my ladies come over for some hot fuck session but not today because I am too drained for that.

After my shower, I head downstairs for dinner.

“Evening Miss Rosie.” I greet her as I take my seat at the dining table.

“Good evening my boy. Are you ok? You usually do not come home this early and there’s no lady tonight?” Miss Rosie asks with a worried look.

Miss Rosie is one of the few people who doesn’t judge my style of living and I like her for that.

“Well, I’m fine now and I know I will be much better after eating your delicious meal.No lady is coming over tonight. You know man sometimes needs some time alone.”I tell her with a smile on my face.

“Hmmm.. that’s new of you. Well if you insist you’re fine. Then that’s okay my boy. Make sure you eat everything and drink your juice. I want you healthy as always.” she responds in her usual motherly tone.

I thank her, “Well noted Miss Rosie. Thanks for dinner.”

“You most welcome. I will be in the kitchen if you need anything,” she says as she makes her way back to the kitchen.

I finish my meal and make my way to my car garage to find Mr.Smith and remind him of our meeting tomorrow.

I got to the car garage and I stopped dead in my tracks with my my heart beating at the sight before me.
