Chapter 3 Fired!

The weekend was a breeze. Danielle was inside her big closet dressing up, wondering if she should just stay home and avoid the obvious or go to work. But she can’t just resist seeing the boss. She applied a bright red lipstick, smacked her lips and examined her appearance in the mirror with some slight poses. She smiled and said to herself – "Oh well, even if he does fire me, I can still work on my bet, it will be so easy".

She looked at herself in the mirror again and shook her head – “Nah” and decided to change into something a little bit more sexier. She chose a Olive colored tight hugging dress that stopped mid thigh and put on a Burgundy blazer to make it look and scream sexy professional. She Picked up her purse and car keys and left her room.

Downstairs she asked the maid where her parents were, the maid replied – “Small madam good morning, dem don commot, dem talk say make I tell you say, if your oga pursue you, make u go for intafew for this card” she handed her a complimentary card “Your food de for dinning table”

Danielle looked at the complimentary card with a small frown – “I will eat at the office, I don’t want to be late, I really don’t want to lose this job” and left.

Janet was overwhelmed with work when her phone rang, it was Tokunbo. “Hello Toks aka Tee aka my friend with the sauce, the hot type of sauce, hope you are still not hung over from Friday”

Tokunbo laughing replied – “Yeye, shebi you said you will take us out, Dee said you postponed due to work, hope you are not trying something funny like denying us our treat”.

Janet laughing – “How many of una? na you be d birthday girl? Anyways we will go out on Saturday, but why are you sounding so relaxed, are you not at work?”

Tokunbo lazily replied – “Which work? I went out last night with Kunle and I have a huge headache. I called the office and told them I am sick, they will only call if it's extremely important but now I am bored” 

Janet shaking her head  – “And you decided to call the queen of boredom? Hahaha Tee take it easy with the drinking, one will think you are now competing with Dee. Una drink pass fish.”

Tokunbo laughing – “Na u sabi, what's life without a bit of alcohol? But Janet come o, how far with the bet? Hope you have started the assignment, or you just slack?”

Janet made a funny face – “Oh my, I forgot o, work too much”

Tokunbo sighed  – "You need to take the bet seriously Jay Jay, you need it as a time off, you are always working. And don’t give me that cock and bull story about your background and why you need to work hard. Agreed you need the money, but a little time to one self won’t hurt, take it as an adventure, who knows, you might loosen up enough to actually get a date. That is after Dee wins the bet of course ha ha ha”

Janet with a pout – “So you are indirectly saying Dee will win abi, ok, I will show you. I will win, once I am done with this last file I am working on, I will start strategizing”. 

Tokunbo still laughing – "Alright dear, talk to you later, bye" and hung up.

Danielle got to work early. The receptionist looked at her and smiled,– “Miss Danielle, good morning, you look beautiful” 

Danielle replied with a faint smile – "Thank you, how far? Is the boss around?”

The receptionist answered – "Yes, as a matter of fact, he asked that you see him immediately” 

Danielle’s heart skipped a beat. “Ok”.

The receptionist was looking at her go, she sneered – “See as she dressed like person wey wan contest for Miss World, you go soon come pass here commot in 5 minutes time, she came just last week and she wan come snatch man wey all of us been de drool over, ole”

She got to the boss’s office and knocked. Jayden said  – “Come in”.

 Danielle entered feeling a bit nervous– “Good morning sir” 

Jayden still typing on his computer said "morning” without looking up.

Danielle cleared her throat –“The receptionist said that you wanted to see me” 

Still looking at the screen of his computer, he picked up an envelope on his desk, handed it over to her. He looked up and gestured with his head – "You may leave” and went back to what he was doing.

Danielle opened the envelope and read the heading, pretending to be surprised – “Dismissal? But sir, I haven’t done anything wrong”.

Jayden looked at her and said– “Get out of my office” 

Danielle pretending to be aggrieved – “Is it because of what happened on Friday? it was actually an emergency, I got a call and had to leave immediately, I am sorry I didn’t ask for permission to do so”.

Jayden cuts in “I really don’t care why you left, get out of my office, clear your table and leave”. 

Danielle looked at him and said – “Ok, chill, I will go, but before I do, can I have your personal mobile number, I only have the office extension”

Jayden getting irritated asked – "What for?” 

Danielle replied coquettishly "I will like to take you out for a drink sometime”

Jayden at this point was getting very annoyed “No, I won’t give you my number, No, i won’t have a drink with you, now get out”

Danielle came closer to his chair, walking seductively “But sir, I just want to get to know you better and you know, maybe become friends?” 

She sat down at the edge of his desk and said seductively “Or much more than friends”

Jayden looked at her and what she was wearing and said sternly “Get out or I will have you thrown out” 

He was reaching for the phone when Danielle puts her hands up and said “Ok, ok, I am going, I will get your number one way or the other and I will give you a call” Danielle winked, walked out and closed the door.

Jayden looked at the door feeling quiet irritated  “What the actual fuck!”

Danielle got home and her dad asked – “How did it go?” 

Danielle frowned and replied her dad "Dad, he sacked me, can you help me get his personal mobile number?” 

When her dad asked “Why?” 

Danielle lowered her gaze and acted like a spoilt child “I just want to call and beg for my job back” 

Senator Savage with gentle eyes “Dee I don’t think that’s a good idea, his dad already said he is quiet strict when it comes to his business, what good will that do?” 

Danielle insisted “Dad please just get the number” 

Her mom came into the main living room and asked “What number? Did your boss sack you?” 

Senator Savage turn to his wife “Yes he did, and now she wants his number, Dee listen I will try to get his number from his dad, but I don’t think it will help, have you gone for the other interview I arranged for you?”

Danielle said “No pops, I didn’t, I was hungry so I went to a restaurant to eat and came back home. I think I will take a break from work for now”. 

Her mom looked at her with a little frown “Danielle when will you grow up? You can’t continue like this, this is the fourth one, and you turned down an interview? Do you want to make your dad look bad?”

Danielle looked at her mom with feigned innocence “Whose fault was it? Who lied about a heart attack? I was beginning to enjoy this work and you ruined it, now you are blaming me?” 

Danielle's mom looked at her and snorted “Ok, no vex, we will see how the next one will turn out”

Janet got home and met a little crisis. Her brother’s son, Damon was playing with some other kids in the neighborhood when he fell from a very high table and had what they believe might be a fracture from the way he won't stop crying. She was rushing out to go arrange a taxi to convey them to the hospital when her brother, Johnson rushed in. She saw how worried he was and started smiling.

She was thinking of the time when he vehemently denied been the father of the child when Risi came to break the news of her pregnancy with her parents. He was swearing that he doesn’t know what Risi was talking about , he only did it once and he used protection. It took a few slaps and scolding from their parents to make him take responsibility, he decided that  pending when he can afford a DNA test he will pretend the child is his. 

When Damon turned two, Risi came and dumped him while complaining of how she wants to move on with her life and she can't do that while taking care of a child. Janet's parents had no choice but to accept the child. It is barely a year and he loves the kid so much, they all do. Looking at him now, it seems he wished he could transfer all the pain his son is feeling to himself. 

He was literally screaming “Jay what happened? How did it happen? I came as soon as I got the message, where was mom and dad when it happened, oh my God”

"Calm down Johnson he will be fine, I was about to go get a cab"

"No need, I rushed back in one and It's still outside, let's go quickly"

They quickly rushed Damon to the hospital. Her dad and mom later joined them. Janet quickly explained that he has been placed on admission and the doctor is with him now. Her parents looked very worried -"Where is Johnson?" 

"He went to the pharmacy to get the drugs" 

She was still trying to assure them that Damon will be alright when the nurse walked towards them. “The doctor will see you now, this way please”.

The doctor was explaining the current situation to them when Johnson came in, “Doctor is he going to be alright?”

The doctor replied “That is what I was just explaining to your parents and sister, it was a minor fracture. he is going to be fine. We will keep him under observation tonight and you can take him home tomorrow, but you will have to take good care of him. Although we will discharge him tomorrow, you will have bring him back after 3 days for a checkup and if all goes well, you will  bring him back after a month for the cast to be removed”. At which they all breathed a sigh of relief.
