Chapter 5

After getting the groceries,Adam was about to leave for the house when his eyes strayed to Gems of Nubia,a jewelry shop.He decided to get a jewelry for Evelyn since their marriage anniversary will be coming up in a few days.He left his groceries with Daniel,one of those selling groceries and went to the store.

"We don't give alms here",a lady with the name tag Amy said.

He looked at himself and immediately understood why she mistook him for a beggar

"Am here to buy a ring", Adam replied.

She looked at him up and down and said with a snort,"The least price you can get here is for an hundred thousand dollars".

"That's alright",he replied.

She stared at him for awhile and decided to allow him in maybe he really can afford it.

"Follow me",she said.

Adam followed Amy and was checking the jeweleries,when a ding sounded indicating someone entering,Amy left him to check out the new customer.

Adam continued checking other glass counters and was checking for the one that will suit his wife when he heard footsteps.

He saw a simple but elegant diamond necklace and he reached to take it when he heard a familiar voice,Lily Douglas one of Lois'(Evelyn's cousin)friends.

"Sorry mister,I am taking that necklace,I love it at first glance".

Lily was with her boyfriend,Joe Dixon,the second son of the Dixon family,another prominent family in Lagos.

"Turns out it is the Williams useless live-in-son-law.What are you doing here.Does this place come across to you like a thrift shop or you are here to step".she barked out.

Adam did not reply her and went to next aisle to check for jeweleries, avoiding her in that way.

He decided to pick a complete set of jeweleries for Evelyn.He saw a crystal cut diamond set of earrings with a necklace which he loved on sighting.He decided to pick another bracelet for his mother-in-law.

He went to the counter to check and pay.He was about to give Amy, the sales attendant his black card to pay for the jeweleries when a voice spoke from behind him.

"Where did you steal that card,only three people have that type of card in this city.Even the richest people in this town are struggling to get it.Who did you stole it from,"Lily accused him and snatched the card from Amy's hand and checking it.

Soon, another sales attendant joined, obviously trying to know what was happening,when Lily uttered a threat.

"Babe, seems we won't be shopping here anymore if we will be coming across riff-raffs and thieves in a store like this.What if I come alone and I'm attacked by him",She asked her boyfriend, Joe acting up as though she is scared to make him react.

"No harm will come to you dear",Joe tried soothing Lily, obviously fooled by her, before he continued."I won't have a man like him be in the same shop as you.Lets go, maybe they will have a change of policy on which customers are allowed in here when they lose customers like us because of this beggar".

"Ma,let me try his card to see if it is indeed real it fake",Amy tried.

"Amy, what is happening here and what is a beggar doing in here",Ann tried asking not fully understanding the situation.She turned to look at the couple dressed flashly next to Adam to discover they are one of their distinguished customers.

"Sir,ma, sorry for any inconveniences, that will be sorted out right now.Amy here is a newbie and is still yet to learn the ropes properly, forgive her for that.Whatever the problem is let me know,I will sort it out".

"This idiot right here is a thief that needs to be thrown out.I am yet to understand how he managed to enter an exquisite shop like this.

While Joe was ranting,Adam quickly sent a W******p messaget o Jacob Smith,"I need your help,am in Gems of Nubia".

"That's one of our stores,I will call the manager to attend to you",Jacob replied his message.

By now,Joe was still ranting about his status and was calling Adam all despicable names making virtually everybody in the store to stop what they were doing to watch the drama unfolding and soon one of the security guards entered.

"Andy,drag this beggar out of here and deal with him.He is creating a scene here",Ann,the other sales attendant to the security guard.

"Hey beggar,I will advise you to walk out of here kindly before I descend on you",Andy to Adam.

Adam kept quiet and was non-challant about what Andy said.

"What are you still waiting for,you want me to use my hands on you before you leave",Andy asked.

"Why are you trading words with him.Useless people like him needs to be taught a lesson,if not other beggars like him will see this as an avenue and start misbehaving by trying to come here",Lily spat.

"Am waiting for your manager", Adam replied.

"You are still making mouth,treat him like the beggar he is.Rubbish egostic beggar",said Lily.

Just as Andy tried pushing Adam out of the store,the manager was running down from his office to where the scene was unfolding with two of his most bulky security guards hot on his heels.

"See,the manager is even rushing down here to appease me and make his staffs do their jobs properly",Joe spoke his thought out to Lily,Adam scoffed when he overhead him.

"Stop dragging him right now", the manager shouted.

"Sir,he is an intruder and he is creating a scene here", Andy said and continued to try to push Adam who wasn't budging.

The sound of a slap resonated the store.

The manager had slapped Andy which in turn made him to drop Adam.

Andy was too shocked as to why the manager slapped him to utter a word.

"Am sorry sir,I never knew you are around,I could have personally come to welcome you",The manager spoke."I am Paul Jones,the manager of this store.

The manager, Paul Jones was in his office when he had a call few minutes ago from a private number.

"Hello",he heard a voice he could distinguish from everyone.It was Jacob Smith.

"Good afternoon sir",he replied.

"Where are you",was the quick reply he heard.

"In the office",was his reply.

"How can you be in the office and you are not aware that your career is slipping from your hands", Jacob spoke.

"Sir,ehm,I don't understand, what happened, what have I done,am sorry I don't know what I have done.How can I rectify my mistake",he was stuttering out of fear.

"How can my young master be embarrassed and bullied in Gems of Nubia,his own store which you are managing for him", Jacob snapped.

Paul broke into cold sweat.

"I am giving you just five minutes to rectify the issue or you're fired".

The call dropped.

"I am doomed",was Paul's thought as he rushed out of his office.

He had always wished he will fortunate to see the Young Master of the King's family one day.He never thought it will happen in this dreadful manner.

"My career is on the line",he thought.

He knew how ruthless and powerful Jacob was.His entire life and career could be off with just a snap of his hand, nobody in the city had the guts to give him any appointment if Jacob lay him off 

"You are fired", Paul,the manager told Andy.

Ann tried to leave without alerting anyone but Andy saw her and quickly grabbed her,"You caused me this trouble,if am going down,we are going together".

"Do you know who he is.How dare you touch him with your filthy hands".

Lily who was shocked by what the manager said replied him,"You must have been deceived by him before.I know him very well,he is just a useless live-in-son-law who depends on his wife for survival.The likes of him should not be allowed in here".

"If you don't send him out now,you will be losing two distinguished customers because of this nonetity .....",before she could finish her speech,the manager already gave her a slap.

"How dare you slap my girlfriend.It's like you think I am still joking with you.By the time am done with you guys,you will regret ever knowing this rubbish here",Joe told the manager pointing to Adam.

"Boys,what are you still waiting for,throw them out and deal with them",The manager told the security guards.

"I'll rather offend you than to offend my master.He is the owner of this store.Just because he is dressed like this doesn't account for the way you treated him".

"So what if he is the owner ....",Joe started but was cut short by one of the security guard who started punching him while pushing him out of the store.

"You both are blacklisted from our distinguished customers and you should never step foot within ten miles around here",he pointed to Lily and Joe who were been dragged out.

"It's all your fault,you have rubbed your misfortune on me", Andy said to Ann He slapped her and started beating her.

Adam continued watching the scene unfolding.

"Am sorry for the embarrassment sir.I am to be blamed,I never knew you were coming,I could have come to attend to you personally.Whatever you want is on the house",Paul started.

"It's okay".Then he said sternly,"My identity should remain a mystery to people".

"Pack that up for me",he told Amy who had been stunned into silence with all the unfolding drama."I will pay for it",He pointed to the jeweleries he picked up and gave his black card to her.

When Amy was done with the transactions,Paul the manager tried escorting him but Adam waved him off.He went to take his groceries and left for home.
