Lila’s POV
The shadows flickered and danced among the trees, their presence ill-intent threatening to thicken into a tangible aura. Ethan stood in front of me, tense and alert as if he might leap to the left or right at any second. I felt my heart beating in my chest, adrenaline pumping through all of me as we watched the strange movements in the forest.
There was something about Ethan that both intrigued and frightened me. The way he had tamed the wolf so effortlessly, his eyes briefly changing to that unnatural gold—it was as if he wasn't completely human.
But he as looked at me, and for some reason I feel safe standing here with him right now.
“Follow me,” he murmured, his voice resonating deep and thus commanding. That was the third time he said it, and I couldn't help but spark a little bit of nerve still hearing that overly protective tone in his voice. I was no damsel in distress, but I knew for sure not to argue with someone who clearly knew more about what we were facing than I did.
“What do you think it is?” My voice barely above a whisper, I asked. The shadows halted in their motion and the forest fell quiet, as if all of its existence was trying to hide and protect itself.
"I don't know" Ethan answered without looking away from the trees. “But it's not friendly, whatever the hell that is"
We stood there while our spines frozen over. As tense as it could be, I felt my heart beginning to race. And then, without any warning at all, the shadows burst into motion once more. Ethan took hold of my hand and pulled me back to the clinic before I even had a chance to respond.
“Run!” he shouted, And then we ran across the clearing and a cold wind stung my face as I followed him.
I felt the thing behind me closing down, a dark oppressive shape that surrounded us tighter and tighter as we raced to get inside of the clinic.
We flung open the door, and Ethan shut it back behind us with a bolt. Breath filled my lungs as I tried to catch my breath.
“Are you okay?” Ethan asked, his voice filled with concern.
I nodded but my lips were so tense that in the pit of every word I felt like there was liquid adrenaline. “What was that?”
“Hard to say,” he answered in a somber tone. “but it looked dangerous, and it after us"
I turned my head to the unconscious wolf on the tray. Somehow this thing was connected to everything odd in Silverwood. And weirdly, I also felt related to everything.
Ethan presence beside me was both comforting and confusing . There was that gravitational force or whatever you call it, I could feel a pull towards him, something in me telling me “yes right here” I felt as though my essence were attracted to him, I couldn't describe this in more detail. It was more than just the circumstances, it made me feel both safe and unsettled at the same time.
“Lila,” Ethan started, evenly and cautiously "Have you ever felt like there's Something different about you? Something you can't explain?"
His question caught me so off guard and I kind of frowned, trying to figure out what he was getting at “What do you mean?”
"Do you feel out of place sometimes, as if there is more to your existence than what you have been told"
I paused and was not certain how to answer. “Sometimes,” I admitted. “Especially lately with all those weird things happening in the woods and everything getting sick. I sense a relationship with it, but don't know how or why"
Ethan expression darkened, and I could see the concern in his face. "We need to figure this out", he said calmly. " There’s more going on here than we realize, and I think you're at the center of it".
I watched him in silence, my mind racing. “What are you saying, Ethan?”
"I am saying that we need to stick together,". he said to me as his eyes looked at me making my heart skip a beat. "Whatever is happening, we'll face it together".
I nodded, feeling safe just having him by my side “Okay. What’s our next move?”
“First up, let find out more about this wolf,” Ethan said, looking to the body on a table. “While also not losing sight of the woods. Those shadows aren't going to magically disappear."
For the rest of the day we performed tests on the wolf and kept eyes on the forest, ready for anything to come. But slowly, I found myself seeing ethan as someone o can rely on and no longer a stranger or an intruder and much more. There was something about him that soothe me, although my brain chanted questions of who is he really was and why was he constantly in my mind.
With the sunset, casting long shadows in clinic everything was turning into tension. There was something he wasnt telling me, like he was holding back something important from me. Even though I wanted to press him for answers, it was clear he had wrestled with this as well.
"Lila" he said, suddenly serious.
Then I glanced up from the microscope, intrigued. “What is it?”
Ethan was about to answer but the door of my clinic swung open and a large presence stepped inside. Then I noticed the expression Ethan wore— one of recognition and dread.
“Hello, Ethan,” the man oozed menacingly. “Fancy meeting you here.”
Ethan stepped forward to put his body between me and the stranger, muscles tight as he prepared himself. “What do you want, Dominic?”
But as he took a step closer, Dominic's eyes shone with something dark and dangerous. "I have come to see what all the fuss is about. heard you have quite the unique wolf. I want to personally see it"
“Dominic, this is not your territory,” Ethan snarled out the words low and grumbling. "Get the hell out of here while you still can" Ethan threatened ready for a fight.
A cold, hollow laugh of his sent a shiver down my spine. "You are such a good guy, Ethan. Always playing the hero but you can't protect everyone"
His eyes exploded into a bright, unnatural red as I had no time to react before darkness crashed over me. Just when I thought it could do no more damage my head erupted with such an intensity of searing agony that I clutched at my temples, biting into myself to stop from crying out.
Ethan snarled, his own eyes glowing with the same strange golden light I had seen before. "Get out, Dominic or I will make you".
Dominic smirked, stepping away from him. “This isn’t over, Blackwood. Not by a long shot.”
With that, he exited the room leaving silence echoing in the clinic. My head was killing me and I gasped for air as though only the act of breathing would calm it down while simultaneously trying to comprehend what happened.
“Are you okay?” Ethan asked, his voice filled with concern as he rushed to my side.
Weakly, I nodded my head still shaken. “What was that?”
“Dominic.” Ethan said bitterly, his jaw tightened in anger as he mentioned the name “He’s dangerous. You need to be careful.”
I glanced up at him, the dread and determination warring inside me. “I will be. Fuck, we have to stop him Ethan. We cannot let him do this to anyone else"
Ethan steeled himself with a nod. “We will, Lila. I promise.”
When evening turn to night, I knew that the worst was yet to come. Ethan watched over me as I worked, which was reassuring but also slightly disturbing; he clearly had his own demons to wrestle. Whatever was happening in Silverwood, it was far from over and I had a sinking feeling that I was at the heart of its all.
After the clinic had closed for the night and small town streets grew silent, I decided to head home later that evening. I had been exhausted with everything that went on during the day but I wanted to be ready for what was coming next. Ethan offered to walk me home but I insisted that I would be fine.
"It's all right, Ethan," I replied with an exhausted smile. "You have done enough for me today".
He paused, obviously not thrilled about leaving me alone but finally agreed. “Alright. But be careful.”
I nodded, thanking him again before stepping out into the cool night air.
Most nights, or days on my walks home it usually quiet and peaceful but tonight every shadow screamed a predator was near and rustling leaves warning of danger. It felt like someone was watching me.
My nervous hands twisted the key as I approached my front door. I glanced over my shoulder, half-expecting to see something or someone?—lurking in the darkness. However, the road was empty only a whispering noise of wind from the trees.
I finally managed to open door and stepped inside, letting out a sigh of relief.
However right when I was about to shut the door behind me, something caught my eyes. Those glowing red eyes watched me from the darkness, basking in the dim light of the streetlamp.
My heart jumped to my throat as I slammed the door close and bolted it quickly whilst leaning onto it, shaking with adrenaline. Who was watching me? And what did they want?
I stood there, the fear being replaced by a slowly blossoming resolve as I began to realize but one thing for certain—it was still not safe outside and all this danger had just begun.
Lila’s POV I woke up the next day with a huge lump in my chest. The events of yesterday kept circulating in my mind over and over, causing an unease to hover on me. Ethan's fierce protectiveness and the disturbing encounter with Dominic, those red glowing eyes in shadows—I only thought these situations were bad nightmares. But my tight muscles and the lump in my gut told me otherwise.I got out of bed and did my morning routine, hoping the order would settle me.As I made my way to the clinic, the early morning sunrise casting shadows across the quiet street of Silverwood. I felt like eyes watching me on my walk to the clinic. I quickened my pace. When i got to the clinic Sarah was already there when I walked up, her normally open face screwed into an expression of worry. ‘Morning, Lila,’” she said in that tight way people do when they are trying to be friendly against their better judgement. ''Did you hear about the incident at the Miller farm?". I frowned, shaking my head. “No, w
LILA POV The morning sun cast a warm glow through my kitchen window, but the chill from the previous night’s discovery still lingered in my bones. I couldn’t get the image of that symbol, etched so ominously into my front door, out of my mind. The note had been even more disturbing: “We are coming.” The threat hung over me like a storm cloud.I needed answers. I needed to understand what was happening in Silverwood and why I was at the center of it. With a sense of determination, I made a plan: I would start at the town library, diving into the history and legends of Silverwood to find any connection to the symbol and the strange events plaguing us.After a quick breakfast and a glance over my shoulder to ensure I wasn’t being watched, I set off for the library. The streets were quiet, the early morning calm only broken by the chirping of birds and the distant hum of traffic. Yet, every shadow felt like it was hiding something, every rustle of leaves a whisper of danger. The library
Ethan’s POVThe air in the meeting hall was stifling, tension hanging heavy over the pack. I stood at the head of the room, scanning the faces of my pack members—my family. Tonight, their usual confidence was overshadowed by worry. They sensed it in me, the weight of the unknown, and it rippled through them like a current. I had called this meeting to address our growing concerns, but now, standing before them, I felt the pressure of leadership like never before.I took a deep breath, gathering my thoughts. “We’ve got a problem,” I began, keeping my voice steady. “And it’s worse than I initially thought.”A murmur spread through the room. The pack was restless and uncertain, and I couldn’t blame them. The illness affecting the wildlife had been growing worse by the day, and now it was starting to affect my pack members, too. The realization was a punch to the gut. We were supposed to be stronger than this—invincible. But something was targeting us, and it wasn’t just a physical threa
Lila's POVI had never been one to believe in fate, destiny, or any of those made-up ancient stories that supposedly guide people toward their true paths. Life seemed more like a series of random events, chaotic and out of control. But ever since the night that massive wolf showed up at my clinic, it felt like the universe had decided to involve me in something much bigger than I was ready for. That wolf, with its intense eyes and unnatural presence, wasn’t just some wild animal. Something about that encounter gnawed at me. And then there was Ethan Blackwood, the man who showed up right when I needed help. Our paths kept crossing, and each time, it was like the universe was nudging us closer together. Whether I wanted it or not.Today was no different.I had gone to the local café for my usual cup of tea, needing a break from work. The moment I walked in, my eyes were drawn to him. Ethan sat in the corner, talking quietly with Marcus. I tried to ignore him, not wanting to appear like
Lila’s POVThe next day at the clinic I just went on with my normal routine and handling appointments. I was grateful for the normalcy, given the whirlwind of confusion that had taken over my life lately. The more I thought about what I overheard at the café—the talk of werewolves, Alphas, packs—the more I questioned my sanity. Maybe I had imagined it, maybe my mind was playing tricks on me, but deep down, I knew the truth. There was something otherworldly happening in Silverwood.I tried to focus on the animals, on their simple needs and innocent lives. They weren’t bogged down by complicated things like pack rivalries or supernatural beings. I envied them for that. But my mind kept drifting back to Ethan. Why had he and Marcus been talking about me? What made me so important in all of this? And then, of course, there was the matter of Ethan being a werewolf, which I dont know if it really true. I had seen enough strange things to start believing in the impossible, but I still strugg
Lila’s POVI couldn’t stop shaking. My breath came in shallow gasps, and my knees felt weak as I stared at Ethan—or whatever he had become. The giant black wolf stood in front of me, his golden eyes locked onto mine. I could still see him in there, beneath the fur and muscle, but it didn’t change the fact that I had just witnessed something impossible.Everything around me was a blur—the distant shouts of his pack chasing away the intruders, the soft rustling of the trees in the night breeze. All I could focus on was the wolf. My mind tried to grasp it, to make sense of the fact that this creature standing just a few feet away was Ethan.“Lila…” Ethan’s voice in my head startled me. It wasn’t a spoken word, more like a thought that somehow drifted into my mind. I gasped, taking a shaky step backward. The wolf took a step forward, and I instinctively recoiled.“No… no, stay back,” I stammered, my voice trembling. My entire body was in fight-or-flight mode, and I was leaning heavily tow
Lila’s POVI woke up with the faintest ache in my chest, a constant reminder of the mark Ethan had said was connected to something ancient, something powerful. My mind was still racing from everything that had happened the night before—Ethan’s transformation, the mark on my body, and the terrifying revelation that I was somehow tied to it all.I had barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, all I could see was the glowing symbol on my side, burning into my skin like a brand. I didn’t know what it meant, but the look on Ethan’s face had told me enough—it wasn’t good.Sitting on the edge of my bed, I rubbed my temples and tried to steady my breathing. I didn’t have the luxury of falling apart. Not when everything was falling apart around me.As if on cue, my phone buzzed on the nightstand, jolting me out of my thoughts. It was a text from Ethan.**We need to talk. Meet me at the cabin.**I stared at the message, my heart pounding. There was no avoiding this anymore. Ethan was right—I w
Lila’s POVWhen Ethan told me I had to train, I laughed in his face. Not because I didn’t believe him—on the contrary, I believed him all too well. After what happened at the cabin, there was no denying that something powerful, something dangerous, was lurking beneath my skin. But me? Training? It felt like a joke. I was just a vet, someone who patched up animals and calmed anxious owners. Not someone who knew how to wield supernatural power without blowing up the nearest tree… or, worse, the nearest person. But Ethan was serious. He stood there, arms crossed over his broad chest, jaw set in that unyielding way of his, as if my sarcastic laugh meant nothing to him.“You need control,” he said. “Without it, you’re a danger to yourself. And to everyone around you.”I swallowed hard, guilt bubbling up in my stomach as I glanced at the fading cut on his arm. It had already started to heal, thanks to his werewolf genes, but the sight of the blood was burned into my memory. I had done that
Lila's POVThe air in the room felt suffocating after Marcus’s revelation. Fenris. The first werewolf. Even the name carried an ominous weight, like saying it aloud would summon him. Ethan was already barking orders, his alpha presence commanding the room. Meanwhile, I stood rooted to the spot, my mind racing.I wasn’t ready for this. The pack’s training area buzzed with tense energy, everyone sharpening their skills, memorizing plans, and exchanging nervous glances. Most of them avoided looking at me directly, unsure, no doubt, what to make of the human girl suddenly thrust into their supernatural world, although now i knew i was no longer a normal human girl, not with everything happening lately. I did my best to ignore the stares, focusing instead on practicing a new control technique Ethan had shown me to rein in the flickering energy c
Ethan’s POV The weight of Marcus’s accusations hadn’t lifted since the night of the fight. His words haunted me, echoing in my mind every time I closed my eyes. My father’s legacy was a shadow I’d always carried, but now it felt heavier, darker, and more dangerous than ever. Lila deserved the truth, and I couldn’t avoid it any longer. She was part of this now, whether she wanted to be or not. The bond we shared was undeniable, see that she fated to be me forever, and if I didn’t come clean, it would only fester between us like an open wound. As I stumbled into the night air, the chill hit me like a slap, clearing my head enough to take stock of my surroundings. The night was still, save for the sounds of the struggle in the cabin, and the faint rustling of leaves as other figures approached.Lila’s voice called out softly from the shadows, and I turned, finding her there, her face etched with worry. She must have doubled back after reaching safety with Nathan, unwilling to leave
Ethan’s POVThe weight of the night settled heavy on my shoulders as I watched Lila and Nathan disappear into the shadows of the forest, my heart beating out a primal rhythm that urged me to go after them, to make sure they were truly safe. But Dominic was still here, standing in the half-lit cabin, his smirk as sharp as a blade. There was no walking away, not until this was over.He chuckled, low and mocking, his eyes shining with that disturbing gleam that hinted at all the twisted thoughts lurking behind them. “Sending her off without you, Blackwood? Don’t tell me you’re getting soft.”“You crossed a line, Dominic. Threatening her is going to cost you,” I spat back, feeling the heat rise in my chest, my muscles tensed and ready. This man had taken so much already—my father’s life, the safety of my pack. He wouldn’t get Lila, too.Dominic’s grin only widened, amused as he took a slow step closer. “She doesn’t even know half of what you’ve done to put her at risk, does she?”I wasn’t
Lila’s POVThe moment Ethan and I decided to go after Nathan, it felt as if a ticking clock had started. Every second wasted was a moment Nathan might not have, a chance Dominic could exploit. The plan itself was shaky at best—but we couldn’t afford to wait any longer. As I pulled my jacket tighter against the chill of the night air, I glanced over at Ethan. His expression was grim, eyes focused on the dark stretch of forest ahead. I could feel the tension radiating off him; this wasn’t just a rescue mission to him—it was personal. Dominic’s web was closing in on his pack, his home, and now Nathan, who had risked everything to help us.“Are you sure about this?” Ethan asked, glancing my way with a flicker of hesitation.I nodded, swallowing back my nerves. “Nathan trusted us enough to reach out. We owe it to him.”His hand found mine for a moment, grounding me in his steady grip. “Stay close to me. Dominic’s spies could be anywhere, and he won’t hesitate to turn this against us.”I no
Lila's POVThe past few days had been surreal, and if I was honest with myself, terrifying. Between strange symbols, mysterious creatures, and Dominic’s influence inching closer to our lives, it felt like my reality had completely tilted on its axis. The moment I thought I’d gotten a handle on things, something new would pull me back into the unknown. And now, it seemed the unknown had a face. Nathan Cross.I’d known his name only because Ethan had mentioned him as a spy—a man Dominic had planted in Silverwood, a shadow in the corner watching every move we made. I never imagined he’d turn around, though, and certainly not for reasons that made sense to me. But here he was, and his cautious messages hinted at more danger, and perhaps more betrayal, than I’d imagined.I glanced at my phone, still blinking with his last message: *Meet me tonight. I have something you need to hear. Somethi
Lila's POVI didn't expect to wake up in a state of dread, yet here I was, lying wide-eyed and tense in bed, replaying every moment from last night. The dark forest, the monstrous creature… and that cursed, ancient ruin. My heart hadn’t stopped racing since I’d left Ethan standing there to face down whatever that thing was. I’d wanted to stay and help, but he’d given me no choice, pushing me forward until I had no choice but to run.A gentle knock on my bedroom door interrupted my thoughts, and I sat up, brushing the hair from my face. "Come in," I called, my voice sounding thin and tired. My sister Olivia stepped in, a concerned frown on her face as she took one look at me. "You look like you’ve been through a blender. Did you even sleep?"I shrugged, managing a small smile. "You could say that. It was… a rough night."Olivia settled on the edge of my bed, her soft features tinged with worry. "I can tell. You’ve been different these past few days—distracted, tense." She paused, her g
Ethan’s POVThe night air was sharp and unsettling as Lila and I decided to take another routine home. I waited for her to close the clinic and we walk together. We were talking and we didn't know when we wondered into the forest. we made our way through the dense woods, the darkness closing in around us. Lila walked beside me, her eyes scanning every shadow, every rustle of leaves. She was silent, her usual calm replaced with a simmering tension that made my instincts flare. Neither of us knew what to expect—or even where exactly we were going.I had a flashlight, but it only pierced a fraction of the night. My senses were on high alert, aware of every snap of a twig, every shift in the breeze.“Are you sure we’re going the right way?” Lila asked quietly, casting a glance back over her shoulder.I nodded, though truthfully, I wasn’t sure. This part of the fo
Ethan’s POVThe sun was barely peeking over the treetops when I arrived back at the pack house. My mind was still racing after the conversation with Elena, her prophecy playing on a loop in my head: *a great sacrifice, a betrayal from within.* The heaviness of it was suffocating, but I couldn’t afford to show it. Not now, not ever.As I walked through the front door, the smell of coffee hit me, and the usual chatter of the morning buzzed in the air. The pack wolves were already gathering, talking in low tones, but the tension was palpable. I could feel it—like an itch beneath the skin—something was off.Marcus was at the center of it. His deep voice carried across the room, and I could hear the edge in it. He was pacing near the windows, arms crossed, his jaw tight as he spoke with one of the younger wolves, Cole. The two of them looked… heated.I narrowed my eyes, my instincts bristling. Marcus had been acting strange lately, distant. More than once, I’d caught him staring off into t
Ethan’s POVThe air inside Elena’s cabin was thick with the scent of sage and something else—something ancient that I couldn’t quite place. It was quiet except for the occasional crackle of the fire in the stone hearth. I had been here plenty of times before, but tonight, something felt different. There was a tension that clung to the air, a heaviness that settled deep in my chest.I stood by the window, looking out at the dark forest that surrounded the cabin. The trees seemed to press in closer than usual, their shadows long and foreboding. It felt like they were waiting for something. Or maybe someone.“Elena,” I called, my voice low but firm. “We need answers.”Behind me, I heard the soft shuffle of Elena Grey’s bare feet against the wooden floor. She moved slowly, as if weighed down by the gravity of what she had to say. I turned to face her, watching as she approached the small altar at the center of the room. The firelight cast eerie shadows across her face, making her look old
