Caden

I had a bad feeling about Ryker leaving for Littlemoon last night. It was not that I didn't believe him capable, or trust his ability to win a war. But, I always worried. Ryker was quite selfless, and would lay down his life for his people. It was both a blessing and curse, more of a curse to me.

This worry had kept me awake, burning through several quantities of caffeinated beverages. When Calum had called me, informing me about several helicopters, and trucks leaving the pack en route to Littlemoon, my worry skyrocketed.

I paced about the heavily guarded mansion. I had tried reaching Ryker, but for some reason I wasn't able to get hold of him. Then I reached out to Reid, and just like Ryker, his line was not reachable either. After several attempts at other people who could be close to Ryker, and no success, I become restless.

The feeling that something might have happened to Ryker was enough to send me into full panic mode. So, I dialled Jerome. He sounded still, yet alert.

RykerIn the past three days, we had exerted energy and resources on reviving Rueben, however the attempts all proved futile. He consistently slipped in and out of consciousness. And even when he was conscious for a few minutes, it didn't do much, as he could barely articulate anything. Each Salutary could barely detect the exact spell that was cast upon the posion, and the knife, and the laboratory Anna had sent the blood samples to had been unable to detect all the components combined to make this one. Potion He was always sedated to prevent those spasmodic reactions, and had to undergo series of rituals to keep the poison from destroying important organs in his body. The toxins had settled on eating the flesh within the wounds. And the Salutaris had used fire and coal to reduce how much of him the poison ate away. We were running out of time, and although I hadn't been awarded the opportunity to challenge it, Black Isle pack was the only option we had at the moment. I didn't want

XavieraThe rest of the week was not without the constant reminder that my life had changed. The whispers had morphed into smiles and small bows, and then suspicious whispers. I overheard two women discussing one time, the possibility of the Alpha marrying his girlfriend, instead of his mate. Another time, two women were comparing myself and his current girlfriend. They said she was more classy, and elegant. Some had said she was more regal, a Crescent she-wolf and was the best fit for Luna, so they didn't know why the goddess picked me. One woman had even described me as a ‘pick-me’ girl. The gossips were becoming quite unbearable, and I didn't know why it affected me. I hadn't always bothered how people thought of me, attractive or not. One time, I was the stunning moon in my pack. If preferences were different, I didn't really mind. I was done with all the attention of my previous life. Also, Alpha Ryker could sleep with the whole town if he so wished, it was none of my busines

CadenWhatever Elder Lowell and my mother had told Caden the day before was enough to kick his ass into action, and make an attempt to rectify things with his mate, Xaviera. I wouldn't say this was entirely a good news for me, my feelings haven't really settled on one thing. I felt different things—mixed feelings, towards their impending make up. However, one thing transcended my feelings—my loyalty to Ryker, and the pack. I could never do anything to hurt him. Nothing. And so even if I felt a growing connection with the woman that was supposed to be his mate, I had shelved it because it my loyalty to Ryker demanded I respected his boundaries. And that was why when he said we were going to check on his mate, I had easily agreed to drive him there. When my mother had heard, she had disappeared into the garden, and just as we were about driving out of the Mansion's grounds, she'd stopped us, a bouquet of flowers in her hands. “Now what is she up to?” Ryker sighed, rubbing his temple

XavieraI didn't know which of this evening's incident was the most weird; The fact that the Alpha had joined in our little cookout gathering, or that I was actually walking the neighbourhood with him in dead silence. After he had asked me to join him for a walk, my first instinct was to decline in the most politest of manners, but saying No was a bit harder than it was meant to be. Also, we were in the midst of unsolicited blog indirect sources, the last thing I needed was my picture appearing with the most ridiculous captions this week. So, I had agreed. Another thing was that I could really use some time away from the choking scrutiny of these elderly women, and my friends who seemed torn between adoration for the Alpha and the awkwardness and tension that was so rigid the air could break into visible shards. As we stepped through the back gate, I noticed the neighborhood was unnecessarily noisy and crowded. People sat on their porches, and the moment they caught sight of the

RykerThe drive home with Caden was unusually quiet. I had expected him to bother me with a barrage of questions the moment the car got in motion, considering how watchful he'd been throughout the evening. However, he remained quiet, eyes on the road as we drove back to Crescent Valley. I guess we were both in our feelings. I didn't even know what I was thinking tonight. First of all, the stroll wasn't even part of the plan. I intended to get in, hand her Eileen's flowers, and leave. I wasn't expecting that many people at her house. I wasn't expecting a lot of things. I hadn't expected my body to react to her the way it did the moment I touched her, the strong urge to kiss her had never been in my thoughts until that very moment. And it had become quite persistent after that. I was surely going crazy. But then she had wanted it. I knew she equally wanted to be kissed, and this somehow gave me the consolation that whatever this drive was, I wasn't alone. There was an attraction. Tha

CadenThe days went by slowly, and Rueben's condition deteriorated rapidly. Ryker had reached out to Black Isle severally via faxes and letters—the lot had limited their use of technology for communication to fax and letters— yet, their response remained the same. He had to travel with the sick man if he needed their help, or they won't be attending to him. I drove through the busy honks of cars, Cyclists and chatters of a typical Crescent weekday afternoon, no immediate destination in mind. I had gotten off work quite early, and even if going home was my intention when I left the office, I had decided to drive around town.My thoughts dwelled on Ryker. After several deliberations, and the Black Isle's insistence, he decided to go with them. From what I had heard, Black Isle wasn't just a magical fortress with crystals and sapphire sprouting from its grounds, it was a sect of the most powerful medicine men. Medicine that might have found its way to Crescent via one of its people. E

  • THE ALPHA'S SECOND CHOICE    1: THE RED MOON

XavieraI stood in the gallery, dressed in a red dress, my hands rested on the balustrade as I watched the throng of bodies move sensually below. It was the Red festival of the Red moon pack, and everyone was in a celebratory mood. From my vantage position, Zee, my sister was giggling like a schoolgirl in the arms of her mate, Luca. Our father, Alpha Wayne sat on his dignified cushion chair decorated with crystal gems, with the chief Gamma, Sir Adrian and his Beta, Felix. My mother, Luna Anne, stood in the circle of the court ladies, who were also wives of wolves of ranks exchanging hot topics, or as Zee would call it; Red gist—over glasses of white wine. My other siblings were scattered around, and about having fun. Every other person appeared all loved up, the goddess had blessed all the werewolves of Red Moon who were of age either with a mate, or their wolf about a month ago. I had been blessed with both. However, I couldn't enjoy the ceremony. Not after what I'd heard earlier

Xaviera It was about us. The enemy was out for our blood. Was all that ran through my mind. The discussion from earlier was really about our pack. A loud bang tore through the already chaotic air. People screamed, running out of the hall. “Oh my God!” Collins gasped.“Comport yourself, boy!” Chief Adrian admonished him. To my mother he said; “ follow Sir Kelvin, you'd be taken out of the city through the underground pathway. A van will be waiting to move you all. Move fast and together, I'll go find the Alpha!” Then he turned on his heels in the midst of the chaotic room, and was gone. “I can't find Zee!” Asher shouted, panting as he joined us, another explosion tore through the walls, indenting it with large cracks. The people went helter-skelter, stampeding for safety. “Oh God!” My mother gasped dreadfully “where did she go?!” “She was with Luca” I said, Jordan was beginning to make a fuss, and little Georgia was shaking like a leaf in my mother's arm. We stood in the midst of

  • THE ALPHA'S SECOND CHOICE    CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

Ryker“You did what?!” I thundered, my anger swift.“It's just a little time before she'll start facing harrasment. I had your interest at heart” he defended. “My interest?” What the fuck? He went behind by back, orchestrated a full security team and plan without my permission, and then returns to tell me he did it for me. “She is your mate, so yes” he stood his ground. “Talk about double standards!" I turned away from him as I secured my ballistic vest. “ Didn't it occur to you that Lauren deserved a security team too?” I asked him. His eyes hardened at this. He disliked her, and he didn't even bother to shield it anymore. “Alpha, with all due respect, Lauren is a mistress. That is what the pack knows her to be. Xaviera is your mate, and Luna to be” “A mate I do not want!” I spat angrily. It was infuriating how no one could understand how annoying this whole situation was. There was a woman I had invested two years into a relationship with, and had indirectly hinted at a possibl

  • THE ALPHA'S SECOND CHOICE    CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

XavieraFrom the moment I ran into the Alpha last night, I knew the balance I was beginning to find again would tilt. Ever since the incident that sent me far away from home occurred years back, I had avoided the spotlight as much as I could. I hated bringing attention to myself. This world was quite a small place, and the pack responsible for the trouble I was in were alive and lurking, even if I didn't know who they really were. The Crescent moon which had become my respite, and shield from my burdensome past had now placed me in the very position I had tried to avoid. The moment I got home last night, I had quickly gotten out of my dress, freshened up and had settled for Mac and cheese. Anna had come in much later, and I had pretended to be asleep when she came to my room. Adeline and Leesa had rang me non stop until I decided to switch off my phone. Much later, I overheard Anna informing them I was fine and asleep. Last night was too much to take in all at once, and I needed the n
