RENNA'S POV
"Ashley, I need to go. Thank you for the information. I'll call you back later."
The phone call left my thoughts spinning like a whirlwind. Nicholas, my mate and Alpha of the Red Moon Pack, had always been strong, composed, and honorable. For three years, I thought I knew every real of him—his strength, his wolf radiated strength, his decisions were loyal, and his word was his bond.
But I had never seen him openly defend another female, let alone break his promises to me until now.
Twice.
He had broken his word twice, and worse, but I had never caught him defending someone in a way that felt... personal.
Currently doubt was clawing at the edges of my mind.
I sighed deeply as I stepped out of my car at the pack house, my claws threatening to unsheathe with frustration.
As I walked into the packhouse, I wasn’t prepared for the scene that awaited me. Stepping inside, the scent of lavender and an unfamiliar floral note hit me. My heart skipped a beat as I rounded the corner to the sitting room.
There she was—Sofia. Her sleek, golden hair caught the flicker of the fireplace, and her aura radiated confidence. She sat comfortably on the couch, her hand resting on my mother-in-law’s arm , the former luna as they shared an easy laugh. Her aura was smug and unbothered. The former Luna was hanging onto every word with a warmth I had rarely seen directed at me.
Besides all that Nicholas, my mate, was seated stiffly in a single armchair, his sharp jaw tense, but his amber eyes avoiding mine.
"What’s going on here?" I managed to ask, breaking through the clatter but my voice wavered with the storm of emotions threatening to spill.
Nicholas rose smoothly, a controlled Alpha move that didn’t escape my notice. He reached for my coat, but his eyes avoided mine. "I brought Sofia here because Mother wanted to see her," he explained, his tone maddeningly neutral.
"You could’ve told me first," I said quietly, struggling to keep my wolf from surfacing. “And is this... this what you meant by ‘handling the situation’?”. My tone was sharp yet controlled.
His gaze met mine for a fleeting moment, a flicker of regret shadowing his eyes, but he said nothing. Instead, he ascended the staircase with my coat, leaving me to face this storm alone.
I was now left to face the intruder alone.
Sofia’s piercing green eyes met mine, a smirk curling her lips, as if she were the true Luna of this pack.
"Oh, Renna, I’m so glad you’re here! Nicholas's mother and I were just catching up. It’s been far too long"
My wolf growled softly within me, its protective instincts flaring. I clenched my fists, resisting the urge to bare my teeth.
What was she doing here? Why was Jared’s mother so warm to her, yet so cold to me?
Nicholas's mother glanced at me briefly, her expression colder than I expected. "Welcome back," she said curtly, then turned her attention back to Sofia.
“Oh, where was I?” Sofia continued, her voice intentionally loud. “Yes, I was telling you how I met Renna earlier at the restaurant. It was... enlightening.”
Her words felt like barbs, but I forced a tight smile. I stood there, my wolf growling low in my chest, feeling like an outsider in my own home—my own pack. I wanted to lash out, to remind her of how she had insulted and challenged me earlier, but I held my ground.
I bit back a sneer when she said nothing about it.
Nicholas's mother tilted her head and smiled at her. "It’s so wonderful you’re here. You’ve always been a part of this family."
"I keep on asking myself why my son was fated to a woman like her, anyways tell me more about your trip",
I didn't mind about the words Nicholas's mother spoke because I was used to her coldness but Sofia’s next words made my blood freeze.
Her eyes glinted mischievously as she added on the words Nicholas's mother spoke, "I also can’t believe Nicholas mated with a chef, though. “Don’t get me wrong, it’s a respectable job, but hardly fitting for the Luna of a powerful Alpha.” Sofia said, her tone light but her eyes gleaming with malice.
My wolf bristled, but I held my composure. "True," I said with a cold smile. "It takes a lot of skill to please an Alpha’s refined tastes every day. I guess not everyone can handle it."
Sofia’s smile faltered briefly, but she quickly recovered. "Oh, I wasn’t insulting your cooking skills. Just… commenting on Nicholas's choices. He could have chosen differently",
I stepped closer, letting the strength of my Luna aura fill the room. "He chose me, Sofia. That’s all that matters."
The tension in the room thickened, and for a moment, Sofia seemed caught off guard. Nicholas's mother quickly stepped in. “All right, enough,” she said. “Sofia was just voicing her opinion. No need to take it personally ”
“Indeed,” I replied, my tone sharp. Sofia’s smile returned, but it no longer reached her eyes.
"I was voicing my opinions, anyways, I was just telling your mother-in-law about my trip. I arrived last night…" Sofia spoke then turned her gaze to Nicholas's mother.
"Mother. Nicholas was kind enough to pick me up from the airport last night.”
Last night?!. My wolf immediately bristled when I heard that.
Last night. The same night Nicholas claimed he was dealing with “pack issues.”
The realization hit me like a thunderbolt. Nicholas had been with Sofia.
I clenched my fists as realization dawned on me more. He had lied to me. The call wasn’t about the pack—it was to pick Sofia up.
As the conversation droned on, I replayed the events in my head. The scent on his shirt. The vague excuse. The call.
My wolf stirred, uneasy, doubts were creeping into the bond I shared with my mate. How much of Nicholas's past had he hidden from me?
What else had he hidden from me?
As if sensing my turmoil, Nicholas's mother suddenly turned to me, her expression softening slightly. “Renna, I don’t know if Nicholas ever told you, but Sofia and him share a special bond. They’ve been friends since childhood. I wish you could get along with her as well as Nicholas does.”
My wolf growled low in my chest, but I forced a tight smile. “I’ll try.”
Satisfied, Nicholas's mother excused herself to the kitchen, leaving me alone with Sofia. Sofia wasted no time. Her emerald eyes gleamed with mischief as she leaned closer.
“Renna,” she began, her voice dripping with mock sweetness. “Did Nicholas ever tell you how him and I grew up together? We were inseparable. He used to follow me around like a puppy? We’ve known each other since we were pups. He even swore he’d make me his Luna one day.”
My wolf stirred uneasily when I heard her words. I kept my face calm, though my claws itched to strike. "That’s lovely but that's past, Sofia. Nicholas is mine now and I am his luna. No amount of reminiscing will change that."
Her smirk faltered, but only for a moment. “Ah, yes, the mate bond. So convenient, isn’t it? Fate chooses for him, and you get to reap the rewards. But tell me, Renna, don’t you ever wonder how he mated with you so soon after I left for Europe. Don't you....",
A loud growl rumbled from behind us and it cut her in mid sentence.
"That’s enough, Sofia." Nicholas's presence filled the room, his Alpha dominance pressing down like a heavy weight.
I turned to see him standing in the doorway, his amber eyes darkened with frustration. “Leave Renna out of this.”
Sofia’s smirk faded as she turned to him, though her defiance still lingered in her eyes.
I met Nicholas's gaze, my wolf screaming for answers, but his eyes darted away.
And in that moment, I wasn’t sure what hurt more, Sofia’s words or Nicholas's silence.
RENNA'S POVSofia's smugness grated against my nerves as I rose from the chair, my wolf stirring uneasily within me. Nicholas's sudden appearance had silenced Sofia, but her words still echoed in my mind.My chest ached—not just because of what Sofia had said, but because I’d had to hear it from her and not from my mate. Nicholas, my mate, had chosen to keep it from me. The betrayal burned and I wasn’t thinking straight anymore.I walked past him without sparing him a glance, even as he tried to stop me."Renna, please listen....", His voice was low, calming yet firm, the kind that made most wolves submit. But not me. Not right now.I shrugged off his touch, my wolf growling lowly in my head. Don’t show weakness, Renna. He betrayed us.I stormed upstairs, my vision blurred by unshed tears. Once inside our shared quarters, I slammed the door shut and collapsed onto the bed, my mind whirling with pain and disappointment. The connection between Nicholas and me, the sacred bond of Alpha a
Before I could unleash my fury, Nicholas's expression hardened. His voice carried the weight of an Alpha’s authority, commanding the room. "Sofia," he said coldly, "those flowers aren't for you."With one swift motion, he took the bouquet from her grasp with an assertive gesture and turned to me, handing them over with a tenderness that only I, his Luna, had the privilege of seeing."They’re for my mate," he declared, his piercing eyes locking onto mine with the intensity of his wolf.Sofia's face flushed with humiliation, but I couldn't hide the satisfied smirk tugging at my lips. Yet, what came next surprised me.She wasn’t deterred because within seconds she turned towards Nicholas with her eyes glimmering with a cunning light. "Nicholas, Nic... nic. I’m so sorry to interrupt your private time, but... the flower is for me, right? Remember back in high school, you used to bring me lavender flowers, during the full moon. Remember those nights? Back in the packhouse, before she came
I retired to the room upstairs, my head throbbing as though the full moon's power sought to tear through my skull. It was throbbing from the weight of what had just happened. My wolf stirred uneasily within me, her growl echoing faintly in the recesses of my mind.I couldn’t believe what had just unfolded in the dining room. The scene replayed in my mind like a tormenting echo. Nicholas —my mate, hadn’t even reprimanded Sofia for insinuating that I, his Luna, poisoned her. It was absurd! Nicholas knew me, knew I would never stoop so low. The mere idea of harming another wolf, even one I disliked, was repugnant. I wouldn’t harm a pup, let alone another member of the pack. The idea of poisoning her with wolfsbane was absurd. I hadn’t even known she was allergic to the herb. I despised Sofia, yes, but I would never jeopardize my honor as Luna by stooping to such treachery. Besides, I wasn’t even aware of her supposed allergy to wolfsbane-infused milk. Yet, there she was, playing the vi
Beep!Beep!(RENNA'S POV)My eyes fluttered open, and I inhaled sharply as the overwhelming scent of antiseptic and faint pine filled my nose. The fluorescent lights above burned into my pupils, sending sharp jolts of pain to my already pounding head. I groaned, my wolf stirring uneasily within me.I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in my side stopped me cold. As an agonizing pain shot through my waist, a strangled cry escaped my lips, and I collapsed back onto the pillow. The sensation wasn’t just physical—it was the dull, aching absence of the bond I usually felt with Nicholas, my mate.Moments later, through blurry vision, I saw Ashley dart to my side, her hazel eyes wide with concern and brimming with relief. “Luna! Thank the Moon Goddess you’re awake! Are you okay?”, She whispered. "Ash...ley?" My voice was hoarse, barely a whisper, and even saying her name felt like a battle."Shh, don’t try to talk,"she said gently, her Beta aura calming my wolf. She placed a hand on mine. H
Arielle’s POVAfter Ashley left the pack infirmary, Nicholas's golden eyes flicked to the door, ensuring the door was securely shut before speaking.“What’s going on Renna?” His tone was low, yet commanding, the weight of his authority palpable.I crossed my arms, unwilling to let him diminish my anger. “What do you mean?” I bit back, my wolf snarling in my mind.“This…this accusation about me neglecting you for Sofia. What’s really bothering you? I thought we sorted this out. I thought we resolved this Renna.” His brows furrowed, confusion shadowing his usually sharp features.I glared at him, my wolf stirring angrily beneath my skin. “You should know exactly what I mean, Nicholas. I had a fatal fall, all thanks to Sofia, and instead of helping me, your mate, you ran to her. After that, you left me with Ashley to go to her. What am I to you, Nicholas? A joke? Your Luna in name only or totally nothing?”, I spoke without stopping, my anger evident in my voice. His wolf rumbled faintl
(RENNA'S POV)"I feel there's a lot you have been hiding from me, luna," Ashley said. her amber wolf eyes narrowing in disapproval. The sharp tone of her voice felt like claws scraping against my guilt.I sighed and looked away, knowing she was right. We were alone in my quarters within the pack's medical wing. I sighed and my gaze dropped to the floor. She was right, after all. We were alone in my room within the pack's healing wing, where I’d been recovering after a near- fatal encounter with Sofia. My strength had returned after Nicholas brought me clothes, a hearty meal, and herbs from the pack healer. Yet, the weight of secrets hung heavily in the air. I hadn’t seen him since."You know," Ashley continued, arms crossed over her chest, "it’s unfair to call me your best friend and keep things from me.""Fine," I relented, feeling the weight of her persistence. "What do you want to know?" I raised my eyebrows. "For starters, who is Sofia? She's the she-wolf I told you I saw Nichol
RENNA'S POVI looked up to stare at the person I had bumped into. It turned out to be a young man, and in the fleeting moment I looked at his face, I couldn't help but notice how attractive he was. His eyes were a drowning emerald green, and his features, chiseled and rugged, left me momentarily speechless.I shook my head, snapping out of the spellbound. "I'm so sorry," I quickly began to apologize. My eyes darted a short-distance away, and I saw a phone lying on the floor. "Is that your phone?" I asked, not waiting for an answer as I scurried towards it, picked it up, and handed it back to him. "Fortunately, no harm was done to the phone. I'm sorry again."All this while, the young man had not uttered a word. And when he finally did, he had an amused smile on. " No need to apologize, really. I should be the one apologizing."I shook my head, "No, I was the one who wasn't looking and bumped into you."He chuckled softly, the sound low and warm. "Then let's call it even. I wasn't payi
RENNA'S POV **Three days after*****"Good morning, luna Renna," Doctor Wade smiled warmly as she entered the room. "I’m pleased to inform you that your wounds have healed, thanks to your accelerated wolf regeneration. You’re fit to return to the packhouse. Alpha Nicholas just needs to finalize the release, and you’ll be free to leave.”Relief flooded me, and a small smile touched my lips. “Thank you, Doctor Wade.”She nodded, the kindness in her eyes unmistakable. “Rest well, Luna. The pack needs you strong.” She spoke and turned to leave the room. "Finally, luna. You’re going back home. The pack has been restless without you.”I smiled faintly, though my heart wasn’t as light as hers. “I’ve missed the pack too. I just hope things go back to normal soon.”Just then, the door swung open, and Nicholas strode in, carrying a tray of food. His towering figure and commanding presence filled the room, but the sight of him no longer filled me with the comfort it once did.“Morning, love,” h
RENNA'S POV)You don’t mean it!" Ashley exclaimed, her voice full of disbelief, making me smile despite the weight on my chest."I can imagine the look on her face," She added trying to keep her voice light. The instant I’d arrived at the office, I’d dialed Ashley to fill her in on what had happened that morning. Sofia’s overconfidence had truly shocked me, and for a moment, I thought she might lash out. But Nicholas … Nicholas had done something unexpected. He had stood firm and denied her, leaving her speechless."For a moment, I feared she was going to lunge at me in anger. She was so shocked. I guess being turned down when she was used to having her way was not such a good experience for her.""I know, right? Alpha Nicholas deserves a pat on the back. He should do that often. Let her know she can't always have her way," Ashley squealed."I wish he could continue this way," I said, my voice suddenly losing some of its brightness. "It hurts to see him fluctuate all the time. This ti
RENNA'S POV I watched Nicholas pause, his eyes widening like saucers, and almost bulging out of their sockets. His wolf stirred beneath the surface, a warning in the depths of his gaze, but I wasn't intimidated. I needed to hear his response.Silence hung between us, thick with the weight of unspoken words."What did you say?" he demanded, his voice icy and clipped, the Alpha inside him struggling for control."Do you still want to be with her?" I asked again. When I said "her," his wolf growled in the back of his mind, and I saw the shift in his eyes. He knew exactly who I was referring to."Pardon me. You're not making any sense," he muttered, his words strained."Fine, I’ll spell it out for you," I said, stepping closer, forcing him to face me. I was suddenly bored and wanted to cut to the chase. "I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately and figured out some things. If you can’t let go of Sofia, then I will set you free to be with her. I won’t stand in the way of your bond with he
RENNA'S POV)Ok. Here he played this 'charming mate' card again.I stood rooted to the spot, contemplating my response.Truth was, I had made no plans on returning to the pack house today. Even though I knew I was going to return eventually, it just wasn't today."Nicholas, I don't think I want to come home today," I blurted. His brows furrowed, his Alpha presence flaring. "Why? You're still mad at me, aren't you? Come on, Renna. I promise to explain everything to you if you come home with me."I hesitated. Did he mean explain? Or make more excuses?"But....", I started."No buts, Renna", He said, his voice carrying the weight of an Alpha’s command. "Please, come home. You can't run from your fated mate."I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, a home invaded by a stranger," I murmured under my breath. His sharp gaze snapped to mine. "What did you just say?""I said nothing."Just then, Rebecca walked past, her eyes flickering between us before she waved cheerfully. I groaned inwardly. The last th

(RENNA'S POV)The next day was Sunday, and I was grateful it was not a work day. When I roused from sleep, all I did was shower, have breakfast and watch TV as Ashley wouldn't let me raise a pin."Hey," she squeezed my shoulder gently, sliding onto the couch next to me. "What's going on?""Hey," I spared her a glance and returned my eyes back to the TV. "You're done?"The aim of the question was because Ashley had risen at the crack of dawn to prune the flowers flanking her house entrance, and I wanted to ascertain if she was done."Yup, yup. The flowers look neater now." She said grinning."You should go have breakfast", I suggested, still focused on the show. "You've been working for hours," I added."Well, you've been engrossed on the TV that you didn't realize that I finished pruning the flowers a while ago, have showered, changed into fresh clothes and even had breakfast. Gosh! Are all pregnant lunas this lazy and less observant?" Ashley chuckled.I paused. "Wait, what?" I asked,
(RENNA'S POV)I paused, trying to process Ashley's words. Slowly, I locked my gaze with hers. She couldn't be serious."You're kidding, right?", My voice was calm, but my wolf stirred uneasily within me."Do I look like I am?" Ashley retorted, her voice firm and serious.I exhaled, my claws threatening to extend as frustration built inside me.Reject Nicholas? The very thought felt unnatural, like severing a bond that was imprinted into my soul. My mind raced, my wolf growling at the mere idea. Why would I even consider it? Nicholas was my mate. I had fought through every challenge to make this union work.I shook my head, forcing out a bitter chuckle. "I don’t think you’re serious, Ash," I said, though even I could hear the slight tremor in my voice.Ashley folded her arms. "I’m very serious, Renna. You can’t keep being the mate Nicholas second-guesses. You’re his fated mate, the rightful Luna of this pack. If he’s still tangled up with Sofia, then let him go. He is a grown up Alpha,
(RENNA'S POV)After Nicholas left, I was restless, my wolf pacing inside me. What could be wrong with Sofia? I wondered. Something about the situation with Sofia felt… off. It hadn’t even been a full day since Nicholas and I left the packhouse, and suddenly she was ill with stomach pain?! My instincts screamed at me, but I pushed the doubts away.I tried to distract myself with the thought that Nicholas will handle the situation, but my mind wouldn't budge. For a moment, I suspected foul play. What if it was a play by Sofia to lure Nicholas back to the pack house as she never wanted him to leave in the first place? What if she was manipulating him?!I shook my head, dismissing the thought. I didn't want to look paranoid and insecure. If she was pretending, she wouldn't involve Nicholas's mother, right? The more I thought about everything, the restless I became. Then a thought struck me; what if the situation was critical and more than Nicholas could handle? I jerked up from the bed th
(NICHOLAS'S POV)"Nicholas, we have a problem. Where the hell are you even?."My mother’s voice rang through the pack link, sharp and urgent. A low growl rumbled in my chest as I sat up, my wolf immediately on edge."What is it?" I responded, already feeling my heart rate spike."Sofia just called me. She's in pain, Nicholas. She said her stomach is hurting…"My blood ran cold. Pain? Sofia?"You have to leave wherever you are, and whatever you're doing. You need to come home now! Nothing must happen to—"I didn’t wait to hear the rest. I severed the link and bolted out of bed, my wolf howling in alarm. I was immediately thrown into a state of panic, as I scrambled to gather my clothes on the floor."What's wrong?" Renna's voice sounded behind me. I hadn't realized when she left the bed. My mind was filled and racing with worst-case scenarios."You're making me scared. What happened? Who was mind linked you?" Renna's voice broke into my thoughts again. This time, she was now standing
RENNA'S POV A bile rose in the pit of my stomach as Nicholas stormed out of the pack's restaurant, his shoulders taut with tension. Whatever notification had popped up on his phone had clearly shaken him to his core. The connection between us as mates, raw and unfiltered, made his emotions ripple through me like a shockwave. I tried to keep eating, but the knot forming in my stomach wouldn’t let me."What notification could have arrived in his phone that made his countenance change in seconds?", I wondered.I turned around and craned my neck in the direction he took, hoping to get a glimpse of him, but I saw nothing. My wolf was already growling low in frustration. What could have unsettled him like that? I wondered. For a moment, I thought of going after him to spy, but thought against it. I would rather wait for him to return and inquire what the notification he received was about. And so I waited. A few minutes later, he returned, his footsteps heavy but controlled. “I’m sorry,”
