I retired to the room upstairs, my head throbbing as though the full moon's power sought to tear through my skull. It was throbbing from the weight of what had just happened. My wolf stirred uneasily within me, her growl echoing faintly in the recesses of my mind.
I couldn’t believe what had just unfolded in the dining room. The scene replayed in my mind like a tormenting echo. Nicholas —my mate, hadn’t even reprimanded Sofia for insinuating that I, his Luna, poisoned her.
It was absurd! Nicholas knew me, knew I would never stoop so low. The mere idea of harming another wolf, even one I disliked, was repugnant.
I wouldn’t harm a pup, let alone another member of the pack.
The idea of poisoning her with wolfsbane was absurd. I hadn’t even known she was allergic to the herb. I despised Sofia, yes, but I would never jeopardize my honor as Luna by stooping to such treachery. Besides, I wasn’t even aware of her supposed allergy to wolfsbane-infused milk. Yet, there she was, playing the victim, her jealousy and desire to claim what wasn’t hers fueling her every move.
She wanted Nicholas, and she wasn’t above using deceit and manipulation to drive a wedge between us.
She must be ecstatic now, knowing her plan to drive a wedge between us was working. Ever since she arrived in the pack, peace had eluded our bond. Her presence disrupted the harmony I shared with Nicholas.
And tonight, she’d succeeded.
I sighed heavily and collapsed onto the bed, my body heavy with exhaustion. My wolf was pacing restlessly within me, growling low at the thought of Sofia’s manipulative presence. Her scent was lingering in the air, irritating my wolf more. If only there were a way to banish her from our territory without invoking the wrath of the Council. The pack couldn’t thrive with such discord, and I had no idea how to protect my place as Luna while fending off Sofia’s schemes.
Realizing I needed to calm my wolf, I stepped into the bathroom for a hot shower. The water soothed my tense muscles, but not the storm brewing in my heart.
After a long shower to calm my fraying nerves, I wrapped myself in a robe and let exhaustion take me.
It wasn’t long before I woke with a parched throat. The dryness made my wolf whine in discomfort, restless urging me to quench the thirst. I pulled on my slippers and descended the stairs, moving silently through the pack house.
Just as I approached the hallway leading to the kitchen, hushed voices reached my ears. I paused, recognizing Nicholas's deep, commanding tone and
Sofia’s shrill tone. My wolf bristled when her sickly sweet voice filtered through the hallway. My heart clenched as I crept closer, staying hidden in the shadows.
It was well past midnight—why was Nicholas, my mate, speaking to her at this hour? I crept closer, my heart pounding as their conversation became clearer.
“What were you thinking when you chose a mate like Renna as your luna, Nicholas?", Sofia sneered.
"She’s too dominant, too harsh, too cold. She doesn’t have the warmth a Luna should possess. A pack needs someone who truly understands its Alpha, not someone who burdens him. She is not fit to be Luna of this pack!”
My wolf growled dangerously, but I held back, listening intently.
“She’s my mate, Sofia,” Nicholas replied, his voice firm, though weariness seeped through.
“The Moon Goddess chose her for me, and I chose her as my Luna. Mind your words. Show her some respect ”
I felt a flicker of relief, at least he defended me this time. However that relief was quickly extinguished by Sofia’s next words.
“You’ve changed, Nicholas", Sofia pressed on, her voice dripping with manipulation. This isn’t the Alpha I remember,” Sofia continued, her tone laced with venom. “You’ve become soft. What has she done to you? The Nicholas I knew wouldn’t tolerate such defiance from his mate. What has she really done to you?”
" You should be with someone who understands you someone like me....”
“Enough!” Nicholas's voice rose, his Alpha authority rippling through the air. “You have no right to speak of our past or interfere in my bond with Renna.”
“Our past is irrelevant. I have a mate now, and nothing will change that.”
“Our past?” The words struck me like a blow. My chest tightened as Sofia’s next confession shattered what little composure I had left.
“I rejected my mate for you, Nicholas. Don’t deny the connection we had.”
My breath hitched. What?
My heart stopped. The room spun, and I clutched the wall for support. What was she talking about?
“Don’t twist the truth, Sofia. I rejected you long before you left your mate. You left your mate because you were power-hungry, not because of me. You were never meant to be my Luna, Renna is my mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess herself” Nicholas said coldly, his voice carrying an edge that sent a shiver down my spine.
I stepped closer, my wolf urging me forward. I made sure they didn't see me. I just wanted to watch them silently.
Despite his firm denial, Sofia began to cry, her sobs echoing through the house, her tears were a weapon aimed straight at Nicholas's heart. Then to my horror, Nicholas moved closer, wrapping his arms around her in a gesture of comfort.
.
Seeing that made pain to slice through me, sharper than any blade. My wolf let out a low snarl, and I turned away, fury and betrayal surging through me. I couldn’t endure this any longer.
Rage boiled within me. My wolf howled, clawing for control, but I held her back. This wasn’t the time for confrontation.
I stormed back upstairs, each step heavier than the last.
Back in my room, I packed a small bag quickly. I couldn’t stay here. My heart ached, but the decision felt necessary. If Nicholas couldn’t see through Sofia’s lies, I wouldn’t remain where I wasn’t valued. .
As I made my way to the stairs, Sofia appeared, her expression smug and triumphant, making my wolf snarl.
She then blocked my path not letting me go anywhere.
“You’re leaving already, Luna?” she taunted. “It’s for the best. Nicholas deserves someone who understands him.”
“I don’t have time for your games, Sofia,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm within. “Move aside." I continued evenly, though my wolf growled within me.
She shockingly didn't even bother to move.
“MOVE,” I growled, my wolf pushing to the surface.
Her eyes glinted dangerously and she crossed her arms on her chest. “Do you really think Nicholas would choose you over me if it came down to it? You’re just a burden to him, luna Renna. He deserves someone stronger, more supportive.”
Before I could retort, she shoved me hard. The world tilted, and I tumbled down the stairs, my wolf roaring in panic. My body hit each step with bone-jarring force.
Agony shot through me, and panic set in as I clutched my abdomen.
Pain tore through me as I hit the ground, my hand instinctively clutching my abdomen. All my body parts were paining but the pain that was lancing through my abdomen was , sharp and unrelenting.
I clutched my abdomen tighter, terror flooding my senses.
.
The baby.
I screamed, my wolf howling in distress. Sofia descended quickly, throwing herself beside me and groaning dramatically
She pretended to have fallen with me and her cries echoed mine, but I knew her game.
Nicholas burst into the room, his eyes wild as they flicked between us. My gaze locked onto his, pleading for him to see the truth.
My lips trembled as I tried to speak, to tell him the truth, but the pain was too much. I couldn’t form any words.
For a moment, I thought he did not until when Sofia spoke. “She pushed me!” Sofia cried, clutching her side as if in pain.
He rushed toward me, but then he stopped, turning to Sofia instead.
When he moved to her instead, betrayal crushed me. My wolf whimpered, and darkness consumed me.
The Moon Goddess wouldn’t have chosen this path for me.
Would she?
Beep!Beep!(RENNA'S POV)My eyes fluttered open, and I inhaled sharply as the overwhelming scent of antiseptic and faint pine filled my nose. The fluorescent lights above burned into my pupils, sending sharp jolts of pain to my already pounding head. I groaned, my wolf stirring uneasily within me.I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in my side stopped me cold. As an agonizing pain shot through my waist, a strangled cry escaped my lips, and I collapsed back onto the pillow. The sensation wasn’t just physical—it was the dull, aching absence of the bond I usually felt with Nicholas, my mate.Moments later, through blurry vision, I saw Ashley dart to my side, her hazel eyes wide with concern and brimming with relief. “Luna! Thank the Moon Goddess you’re awake! Are you okay?”, She whispered. "Ash...ley?" My voice was hoarse, barely a whisper, and even saying her name felt like a battle."Shh, don’t try to talk,"she said gently, her Beta aura calming my wolf. She placed a hand on mine. H
Arielle’s POVAfter Ashley left the pack infirmary, Nicholas's golden eyes flicked to the door, ensuring the door was securely shut before speaking.“What’s going on Renna?” His tone was low, yet commanding, the weight of his authority palpable.I crossed my arms, unwilling to let him diminish my anger. “What do you mean?” I bit back, my wolf snarling in my mind.“This…this accusation about me neglecting you for Sofia. What’s really bothering you? I thought we sorted this out. I thought we resolved this Renna.” His brows furrowed, confusion shadowing his usually sharp features.I glared at him, my wolf stirring angrily beneath my skin. “You should know exactly what I mean, Nicholas. I had a fatal fall, all thanks to Sofia, and instead of helping me, your mate, you ran to her. After that, you left me with Ashley to go to her. What am I to you, Nicholas? A joke? Your Luna in name only or totally nothing?”, I spoke without stopping, my anger evident in my voice. His wolf rumbled faintl
(RENNA'S POV)"I feel there's a lot you have been hiding from me, luna," Ashley said. her amber wolf eyes narrowing in disapproval. The sharp tone of her voice felt like claws scraping against my guilt.I sighed and looked away, knowing she was right. We were alone in my quarters within the pack's medical wing. I sighed and my gaze dropped to the floor. She was right, after all. We were alone in my room within the pack's healing wing, where I’d been recovering after a near- fatal encounter with Sofia. My strength had returned after Nicholas brought me clothes, a hearty meal, and herbs from the pack healer. Yet, the weight of secrets hung heavily in the air. I hadn’t seen him since."You know," Ashley continued, arms crossed over her chest, "it’s unfair to call me your best friend and keep things from me.""Fine," I relented, feeling the weight of her persistence. "What do you want to know?" I raised my eyebrows. "For starters, who is Sofia? She's the she-wolf I told you I saw Nichol
RENNA'S POVI looked up to stare at the person I had bumped into. It turned out to be a young man, and in the fleeting moment I looked at his face, I couldn't help but notice how attractive he was. His eyes were a drowning emerald green, and his features, chiseled and rugged, left me momentarily speechless.I shook my head, snapping out of the spellbound. "I'm so sorry," I quickly began to apologize. My eyes darted a short-distance away, and I saw a phone lying on the floor. "Is that your phone?" I asked, not waiting for an answer as I scurried towards it, picked it up, and handed it back to him. "Fortunately, no harm was done to the phone. I'm sorry again."All this while, the young man had not uttered a word. And when he finally did, he had an amused smile on. " No need to apologize, really. I should be the one apologizing."I shook my head, "No, I was the one who wasn't looking and bumped into you."He chuckled softly, the sound low and warm. "Then let's call it even. I wasn't payi
RENNA'S POV **Three days after*****"Good morning, luna Renna," Doctor Wade smiled warmly as she entered the room. "I’m pleased to inform you that your wounds have healed, thanks to your accelerated wolf regeneration. You’re fit to return to the packhouse. Alpha Nicholas just needs to finalize the release, and you’ll be free to leave.”Relief flooded me, and a small smile touched my lips. “Thank you, Doctor Wade.”She nodded, the kindness in her eyes unmistakable. “Rest well, Luna. The pack needs you strong.” She spoke and turned to leave the room. "Finally, luna. You’re going back home. The pack has been restless without you.”I smiled faintly, though my heart wasn’t as light as hers. “I’ve missed the pack too. I just hope things go back to normal soon.”Just then, the door swung open, and Nicholas strode in, carrying a tray of food. His towering figure and commanding presence filled the room, but the sight of him no longer filled me with the comfort it once did.“Morning, love,” h
(ARIELLE'S POV)The ride back to the packhouse was one of the most agonizing experiences I’d ever endured. Sofia did everything possible to upset me. She seemed determined to test my patience. She was all over Nicholas, she clung to him, like ivy on a tree, fussing over him and throwing coy glances in my direction as if staking a claim that wasn’t hers to make. She was either dabbing his face with a handkerchief or playfully throwing her arms around him. "Can you play some music, Nicholas I'm bored," her loud voice suddenly sounded, breaking the silence in the car.Nicholas, ever patient, glanced at her in the rearview mirror. "What do you want to listen to?""That old song we used to love, I Will Always Love You, by Whitney Houston", Sofia replied with a pout.Nicholas's jaw tensed. "I don’t have it anymore." He replied with his eyes fixed on the road."You have to be kidding", Her laughter was sharp."How could you get rid of something so meaningful to us?" She pouted, appearing
(ARIELLE'S POV)I shot Nicholas, a confused look, expecting some sort of explanation, but he just brushed me off, his focus shifting to Sofia instead. What in the Moon Goddess' name?Don't tell me Nicholas agreed to accommodate Sofia in our home without informing and discussing it with me?"Agreement?" I repeated, my voice firmer and demanding, holding the authority of a Luna. "Tell me, what agreement, Nicholas?""Watch your tone, Renna," Nicholas growled low, his eyes flashing with dominance then he glanced over at Sofia. "We talked about this earlier.""Talked about what?" I demanded, the irritation building like a storm. "You can’t just invite someone into our packhouse without discussing it with me first. I’m your mate!"Sofia stepped forward, her hand resting protectively on her stomach. A subtle ploy for sympathy, no doubt. "Nicholas, tell her," she said softly, slipping her fingers into his. "We agreed that I could stay here until I get back on my feet and find a place of my ow
(RENNA'S POV)I was roused from sleep by a gentle tap. My eyes fluttered open, and I saw Nicholas leaning over me. His eyes glowed faintly in the dim light, a telltale sign of his wolf lingering close to the surface.“Dinner is ready, my mate,” he murmured, his voice deep and warm, as he pressed a soft kiss to my forehead.“Dinner?” I sat up quickly, disoriented. “What time is it?” I glanced at the window, noticing the dark expanse of the forest beyond but the bedside lamp illuminated the room with a cozy glow.Nicholas chuckled, a rumble that always reminded me of a distant growl. “You’ve been asleep for four hours, love. That’s rare for you. Come to think of it, you never slept this much. Are you feeling alright?”I hesitated before nodding. “I’m fine,” I said quickly, brushing off his concern. The truth was, my newfound exhaustion and bouts of weakness likely had something to do with the bond deepening between me and our unborn pup. But I wasn’t ready to share that secret with Nic
(NICHOLAS'S POV)"Nicholas, we have a problem. Where the hell are you even?."My mother’s voice rang through the pack link, sharp and urgent. A low growl rumbled in my chest as I sat up, my wolf immediately on edge."What is it?" I responded, already feeling my heart rate spike."Sofia just called me. She's in pain, Nicholas. She said her stomach is hurting…"My blood ran cold. Pain? Sofia?"You have to leave wherever you are, and whatever you're doing. You need to come home now! Nothing must happen to—"I didn’t wait to hear the rest. I severed the link and bolted out of bed, my wolf howling in alarm. I was immediately thrown into a state of panic, as I scrambled to gather my clothes on the floor."What's wrong?" Renna's voice sounded behind me. I hadn't realized when she left the bed. My mind was filled and racing with worst-case scenarios."You're making me scared. What happened? Who was mind linked you?" Renna's voice broke into my thoughts again. This time, she was now standing
RENNA'S POV A bile rose in the pit of my stomach as Nicholas stormed out of the pack's restaurant, his shoulders taut with tension. Whatever notification had popped up on his phone had clearly shaken him to his core. The connection between us as mates, raw and unfiltered, made his emotions ripple through me like a shockwave. I tried to keep eating, but the knot forming in my stomach wouldn’t let me."What notification could have arrived in his phone that made his countenance change in seconds?", I wondered.I turned around and craned my neck in the direction he took, hoping to get a glimpse of him, but I saw nothing. My wolf was already growling low in frustration. What could have unsettled him like that? I wondered. For a moment, I thought of going after him to spy, but thought against it. I would rather wait for him to return and inquire what the notification he received was about. And so I waited. A few minutes later, he returned, his footsteps heavy but controlled. “I’m sorry,”
RENNA'S POV Jared returned with our bag, and took it to the closet. His commanding presence, as always, sent a shiver through me. Alpha or not, he had a way of dominating every room he stepped into."I don't want you stressed," he said, his voice firm yet soft, as he walked back toward me.I arched a brow, feigning a frown. "Don’t tell me you dragged me out to this secluded pack resort just to make me lazy." I murmured. He smirked, his eyes flashing with the faintest hint of gold, his wolf always close to the surface. "I brought you here to spoil my mate silly," he said, his tone dropping into the deep growl that made my heart race."Well, ...." I said with a sly grin, "that sounds like something I would love to indulge in." I added, all smiles."Perfect," He replied, leaning away. "I’ve arranged everything. After I unpack we brought, we will head to the pack’s spa. You’ve been running yourself ragged lately. Between council meetings and rogue patrols, your muscles are overdue for s
(RENNA'S POV)Awed! That was how I felt as Nicholas pulled his sleek black SUV into the Pack's grand estate. As I peered out the window of the car, I couldn't help the gasp that escaped my mouth. The massive structure ahead of us shimmered under the pale light of the full moon. The towering packhouse, built of silver stone and glass, seemed to glow ethereally, a testament to the immense power and wealth of its Alpha.Nicholas, the Alpha himself, chuckled softly as he turned off the car's engine. He stepped out with effortless grace, opening my door before I could even reach for the handle. His touch was warm as he offered his hand, steadying me as I climbed out."Welcome to your new home, Luna," he said, his deep voice laced with pride and warmth.I swallowed, overwhelmed by the majesty of it all. I took in more details of the hotel's surroundings properly. The estate was breathtaking: cascading fountains framed the grand entrance, surrounded by manicured lawns glowing softly under
RENNA'S POV)I stormed into the packhouse, the air around me crackling with the tension I carried. Shockingly Sofia, was seated in the living room, her eyes fixed on a reality show playing on the massive TV.She glanced at me briefly, her expression indifferent, before turning her focus back to the screen. Fine, if she wanted to play the ignore game, I was up for it too. I continued toward the grand staircase that led to my room.Just as my foot touched the last step, Sofia’s voice rang out."Nicholas”I froze in my tracks, my wolf stirring uneasily within me. Turning back, I saw her leap from the couch and fling herself into his arms as he stepped into the room.“I’ve missed you, Alpha. Are you alright? Have you been overworking yourself? Are you stressed?” Sofia fussed, her hands roaming over his chest and arms.Nicholas didn’t move, he stood stiffly, his voice cold but commanding. “Sofia. Stop it. Mind your actions.”I heard him speak but he didn’t push her away. He didn’t growl or
(RENNA'S POV)At the close of the pack dining hall meeting, Alpha Nicholas was already waiting outside the pack’s dining hall to drive me home." Alpha Nicholas is here," Rebecca announced her head peeking through my office door."Go away, Rebecca," I replied smiling."Alright, alright, luna" Rebecca giggled and left.I hurriedly packed up; I would rather not keep Nicholas waiting. Stepping outside, I found him leaning against his sleek black car, radiating dominance. Even in the moonlight, his eyes seemed to glow, a reminder of the wolf within."And how was your day, my Luna?" he asked, the moment I got to him, his deep voice sending a shiver through me."Hectic as usual," I replied, handing him my bag."You wouldn't stop even if I commanded you, would you?" he teased, his lips twitching into a smirk."Not in this lifetime," I said with a grin. My role as the pack's senior chef was everything to me, and he knew it."Here, let me help you get in," He murmured, his voice softening as
RENNA'S POV I felt the tension ripple through Nicholas's body beside me. His normally warm presence turned cold, his muscles rigid like a predator cornered. I knew I had crossed an invisible line. The question was, how would the Alpha in him respond? “Oh, I think I might have stood next to another female wolf accidentally,” He spoke up after a while, trying to sound nonchalant but his tone was too casual to be believable.A searing pain shot through my chest, not from anger but from the bond we shared. Mates could sense deception, and the bitter taste of his lie stung more than I could handle. Vanilla. The scent clung to him, but it wasn’t mine. My scent was lavender. That fragrance belonged to someone else—Sofia, he probably got it when she leaned her head on his shoulder.“Is something wrong, Renna?” His deep voice was softer now, laced with a calm that belied his true emotions. What could I say? What could I possibly say to the Alpha of the pack without shattering everything? Wha
(ARIELLE'S POV)I knew what I was about to do was wrong, going against the principles of the Luna I was raised to be, but I couldn’t stop myself. My hands moved on their own as I typed in his password. Nicholas, had once mentioned in the car that his password was my name, right?. Well, now was the time to find out.I typed my name, and to my amazement, his phone unlocked. My fingers hovered over the screen for a moment before I clicked onto the message box specifically Sofia’s thread. The words on the screen made my blood run cold immediately."Hey, are you done bathing?"“Will you come keep me company after you're done? The forest is beautiful under the moonlight tonight.”"Why aren't you responding? Is Renna awake?""Are you ignoring me?""Nicholas!!!"“I can’t sleep. Come down, and let’s go outside to watch the moon rise like we did when we were pups.”"You promised me at the pack infirmary's garden that we would stargaze, remember?"Angrily, I muted the phone and dropped it back
