Shey's POV
My head ache like hell. I am feeling a bit under the weather the moment I opened my eyes. I only drank a single glass of red wine last night and hurried home after the formal accession ceremony was over yet I feel like my whole body had been ran over by a monster truck. This must have been because of stress, jitters and fatigue from the recent event. It was crazy!
I tried to communicate with Kaya inside my head but she was ignoring me. The profound sadness and despair was all over her. Perhaps that was the reason I was feeling sick today. Kaya's depression was manifesting on my body.
The clock sitting at the top of my bedside table hit quarter after nine. Realizing it was almost 10 o'clock in the morning, I forced myself to get out of bed. I let the morning air inside my room by opening the windowpane. The sunlight that came inside had a hint of sudden warmth. The morning sunshine erased all the sleepiness that was left inside of me.
I immediately took a bath and fixed myself. The office was closed today because of the event last night so I went towards my workplace at home to continue working. Today was my first official day as the new leader of the Scarlet Union. I won't let this day not to be productive as it should. No late night party, not even my succession ceremony, could slow me down.
On my way there, I bumped into Jenny, our house helper. After we shared our morning greetings, I instructed her to bring my breakfast upstairs to my office. She complied.
Once I reached the room, I started delving on some paperwork sitting at the top of my desk. To my surprise, everything was already accomplished. I carefully scanned every documents to make sure nothing was missed. Everything was flawless. Before I could even wrap my head around what was going on, I heard a mild knock on the door. Uncle Stan sprung out from it wearing his most charming smile. He immediately saw the dumbfounded look at my face as I am to figure out how the paperwork had completed themselves.
"I already finished some administrative tasks for you. Good thing nothing is deemed too confidential so I was able to take over." Hearing this, everything had made sense.
"You don't have to do that but I appreciate your help very much." I uttered as I tried to pose a grin.
Suddenly, his face became serious. He looked at me straight in the eyes and asked, "What's wrong, Shey? Is something bothering you?"
I was caught off-guard by his question yet I tried my best to act natural. "What do you mean? I am perfectly fine, Uncle Stan."
"Psh," he hissed as he pulled the chair in front of my desk and sat on it. "I had been with you all your life so I know when something is wrong. Don't try to deny everything, my dear. You know I wouldn't fall for any of your lame excuses."
I held a deep sigh. He was right. There was no point of hiding what was going on to him. Uncle Stan knew me better than I thought I knew myself. Lying wouldn't work on him.
I hesitated a bit yet decided to confess. "I woke up at the wrong side of the bed this morning because of Kaya."
"What about her?"
"She told me she felt the presence of her mate last night at the party," I continued. He was startled a little yet decided not to say anything. Like Kaya, he also knew about my refusal to acknowledge the existence of werewolf mates. My life was an open book to him.
After a few minutes of awkward silence, he finally spoke. "Were you able to find and meet him?"
My eyes grew wide as I heard this. "Of course not!" I exclaimed. "Why would I?"
He responded with a nod, already expecting what my answer would be. "And Kaya?" He continued. "How did she take it?"
"Devastated." I retorted. "She is refusing to talk to me and completely ignoring my presence."
"That was expected." He answered. "You knew from the start how your views in life would affect your wolf, right?"
Instead of replying, I responded with a deep sigh. He was right. I am well aware of the consequences of my actions. And now, I was paying the price for it.
I am not used to my wolf disregarding my presence yet I tried to understand. She was hurt and disappointed because of me; her best friend and life-long companion. Throughout the last five years of my life since the day I shifted to my wolf form and met her, we never had a misunderstanding. She knew my stand on wolf mating yet I never imagined my choice would have this overwhelming effect on her. Regardless, I would remain firm and choose to stand by my principles. Perhaps Kaya only needed some time alone and would be fine in the next few days.
Or so, I hope.
Just in time, Jenny knocked and entered the room carrying a tray with my breakfast on it. I started to dive into the plate of bacon and pancakes while drinking a cup of hot chocolate on the side. I asked Uncle Stan to join me yet he declined. I am assuming he had taken his breakfast already as it was already late to have one to begin with. While eating, I couldn't help but to reflect on Uncle Stan's question earlier about who my mate was. I mean, I never saw or met him before yet he already had this deep-seated connection to my wolf. Would I feel the same way as Kaya once I met him?
"Don't be stupid, Shey," I reprimanded myself. "There was nothing special about finding a mate. The mate bond was just a fancy term for attraction. It was just an overrated feeling. Nothing more," I continued reiterating this concept inside my head. For a moment, I felt like a broken record because of it.
"So what is it gonna be?" Uncle Stan queried afterwards.
"What do you mean?" "About your mate, for crying out loud!" He bursted in laughter. Confused, I arched my left brow trying to comprehend what he is trying to say. This made him laugh even more. "What I meant to say is, do you have any plans on meeting him in the future?" He explained.
"What for?" I scoffed. "I had lived without him for twenty plus years so I know I would be good for a couple of decades more.""I give up." I saw him raised his both hands as a sign of surrender. I shook my head smiling. "I just hope you would not change your mind in the future," he teased as he stood up and ready to leave.
"Like I would!" I responded. He threw me a mocking smile as he slowly disappeared at the door.
I rested my full weight at the back of my swivel chair stressing myself about this whole mate thing. I am at the point in my life where that last thing I need is both complication and distraction. I had greater things to busy myself with. Certainly, this chaotic scenario was a disaster in the making. I sure hope my wolf would get pass this heartache soon. The earlier the better. As the new head of the Scarlet Union, we couldn't afford to be slowed down by this trivial problem.
For I am Shey Collins. And I don't need a mate in my life.
Jaxon'sPOVIt was a very quiet Saturday evening at our house. The night sky was clear and full of twinkling stars. Cold breeze was circulating inside our home so my wife decided to lift down the small windowpane we had at our dining room for warmth. Afterwards, she began fixing the table and serve dinner.Tonight was nothing special yetLysa, as always, cooked a feast. I could smell thesmokinessof the fall-off-the-bone barbeque ribs paired with rich and creamy macaroni and cheese. The warm, yellow hue of the mac and cheese and the dark, red tone of the ribs complemented each other. Tonight's meal certainly made a picture-perfect plate. This was one of the many reasons why I had fallen head over heals with my wife. She was a fantastic cook who su
Pierre'sPOVWhat could be a better way to forget the matters of the heartthanburying yourself in mountains of paperwork? This had been my routine for the last few days after witnessing what could have been the best night of my life. In a normal circumstance, I might have been in bed, lying next to my loving mate while discussing our plans for our future. However, the goddess of the moon had other intent. Instead, Iam stuckhere in my office disconnecting myself from the world while trying to figure out how I could get the hell out of the situation I am in.On how I would be able to accept that my long-awaited mate was the very person I should destroy.
Shey'sPOV"Shey, an urgent letter came in the mail earlier."I looked up at my secretary as she handed me the whiteenvelopecontaining the letter she was talking about. After carefully scanning the outer part of the letter out of curiosity, I immediately grabbed the paper knife made of stainless steel from my desk and had its way through it. When I completely teared the paper enclosing the communication, a familiar logo appeared. The branded blank was that of the Legion of the North.I had my full trust on Janice who's working for Scarlet Union for almost 12 years. She needed little to no supervision in doing her job. Most of the time, she was able to filter all of my works down to the level that only needed my int
Pierre's POVFinally, the day I had waited for had arrived.I couldn't help but to look at myself in the mirror a thousand times. In my bed laid couple of my wardrobes and some accessories. These are the ones I had tried earlier until I came up with what I am wearing now. The last time I had been this pressured about selecting what to wear was during my inauguration as the leader of the Legion of the North. I had to commission a stylist just to look presentable that night but it was all worth it.To give myself a fresh yet a smart, boy-next-door look, I chose a gray slim-fit Chino pants, a white shirt and a blazer. Wearing a pair of black leather shoes was a no-brainer as well. I alsohad an appointmentin the salon yesterday to have my hair styled. I adorned my wrist with a gold watch to which I am constantly checking to prevent myself from ge
Shey'sPOVTonight was far from being ordinary. Somehow, it flooded me with both nerves and anticipation. Why wouldn't I? I was about to meet the head of the number one opposer of the Scarlet Union.Eager tomake a statement, I decided to went with smart yet elegant get up. Selecting a white boat-neck sheath dress paired with a black stiletto gave me the confidence I need to face probably one of the most egocentric and narcissistic persons I would possibly meet in life. Well, what could I expect? He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and knows nothing about hard labor to survive. And unfortunately, this was a common trait for someone who had been born to a privileged life in the werewolf society.
Pierre's POV This week had been a volley of curveballs. While still recovering from the disastrous first meeting with my mate, here I was waitingto beroasted by the council of the Legion. Today was thefollow upassembly aboutthe progression ofour plan to annihilate the Scarlet Union. Indeed, my nightmare was far from being over. I was deeply concerned over the sudden turn of events. Just a month ago, I was sitting in this very room devising a concrete plan on how to destroy the rebel group. Like even suggested on spying on the organization just to gain knowledge that we would use in putting them down. That plan was a success, until I met the leader of their union.
Shey's POV It had been a week since I had the worst business meeting of my life. As expected, I went back to my life as if nothing happened. I immersed myself more in the life as the Alpha she-wolf of the Scarlet Union; attaching my signature to a mountain-full of paperwork and attending to several business functions. Everything seemed to be back to its normal phase. Or so I thought. An unfathomable void was consuming my soul. For some weird reasons, I was feeling empty and sad most of the time. I adored socializing yet I found myself rather enjoy the comforts of my bed. Even myself was surprised with the sudden change of preference I had established now. Like suddenly, I had become a stranger even to my self. I even visited a mental health professional this week to have myself checked. The doctor's prescription meds seemed to not have any significant effect to my condition. I continued to be indolent and unproductive.
Pierre's POV30 days. I only have 30 days to fix this mess.I could still hear Alpha Stephan's voice from the council meeting yesterday. Him advising me that I only have 30 days to get rid of the Scarlet Union was like finding a needle in a haystack. It was insane! As a result, I found myself heading towards the headquarters of the Scarlet Union. From a distance, I could see some members of the security force approaching my blue Chevy Camaro. I began to act as normal as I could. After the car inspection, the guards had allowed me to go through. As I finished parking my ride, I headed towards the reception area to ask about where exactlyShey'soffice was. As I walked casually towards the concierge, Iwas welcomedby a familiar face.
Shey’s POV The endless darkness was over. My eyelids flickered to the glimmer of light that awakened my senses. Slowly, I opened my eyes. I was welcomed with an unfamiliar sight. The interior of the room was very far from what I remembered my room was like. I scanned the place in hopes of finding a hint of familiarity to the place. But I failed. The woods incorporated into the walls gave a sensible warmth to the place. The design of the room focussed on smaller intimate patterns while introducing rich, sensuous textures because of the neutrality of its colors. Adding to the layer of soft elements, it gave me a welcoming feel. I didn’t feel any sign of threats though the surrounding was a complete stranger to me.
Perre's POVUs werewolves were complex beings when it came to the matters of our hearts. Never would you encounter another creature as passionate and loyal as our kind. The goddess of the moon already wrote our love stories before we're even born. Our soulmates are predestined by the goddess herself. The concept of being mated was sacred to every single werewolf in this world. And yet this good-for-nothing son of a bitch destroyed the reputation of our kind. Not only did he abandon his mate, he literally caused her doom. To be deceived was one thing but to be betrayed by the very person you loved and cherished was far greater. It would leave a lasting wound that's probably never gonna heal. The pain must be tenfold."Who is he?" I asked while trying to control the urge to release my rage. I felt that
Pierre's POV"Alpha Pierre.."A mild tap on the shoulder woke me up. When I opened my eyes,Jaxon'sface was the first thing I saw. I scanned the place and realized I was already in bed and covered with bandages. I wasn't sure how I got to my room. The last thing I remembered was me lying on the couch. Shane and the rest might have carried me here.I tried to lift my body from bed but when I do, unpleasant bodily sensation struck me. It was like hitting the button to activate pain all over my body. Discomfort overpowered me so I decided to keep laying down."Easy, Alpha."Jaxonimmediately tended to my needs. I gestured my hand signalling him that I was fine. When he thought I was already settled, he uttered "If you want, I'll ask Mr. Col
Pierre's POV I didn't know where I went wrong. All I wanted was to haveSheyexperience the beauty ofCrustwickMountain. Rather, a furious wolf I used to call mate a while ago attacked me. "Shey.." All I could do was to call her name hoping that the sound of it would remind her of whom she was. I looked into her eyes desperately searching for the woman I once knew. But instead, Iwas facedby a monster I never knew existed inside her. "Shey.. It's me. This is Pierre. I am your mate." As if mylastmessage even
Pierre's POV"Are you sure you want to do this, alpha?"Like a parent anxious for his child's first camping trip in the woods,Jaxonwas fussing over about this since last night. He kept on telling me that this decision was stupid especially after knowing about what had happened last time.Me,Jaxon,Lysaand Shane were outside the pack house. They were helping meloadsome stuff at the back of the car. Shane was inspecting the vehicle making sure it would not give me any problem later. Though my Delta was not saying a word, it wasevidentthat he was echoing the same statement as
Shey'sPOV"It's niceto beback in business, baby!"Janice was a picture of excitement and glee. She carefully opened the bag of food she ordered for lunch while I am staring at her in awe. Seconds later, a bowl of lasagna soup paired with her favorite bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich were sitting on top of her table. With a huge grin on her face, she took her first bite and admired the food like a 5 year-old child.I shook my head while observing her strange behavior. For me to see Janice loosen up a little was not something I got to seeon a regular basis. As much as I wanted to celebrate with her, my conscience was not letting me.She was happy b
Pierre's POVMy eyes twitched as the warm sunlight hit them. I raised my right arm for cover and slowly opened my eyelids under its shade. I was greeted with an unfamiliar surroundings which made me got up from where I was lying hurriedly. As a result, I felt a sting of pain on my head which made me uttered a soft moan."Woah! Take it easy, lad. You just got out from having a fever" I heard someone spoke. That was when I noticed a middle-aged man sitting at the couch beside me. He was holding a newspaper and sipping a cup of coffee."Where am I?" Obviously, these were the first set words I would say. I strolled my eyes to the unknown environment, trying my hardest to remember how I got here in the first place.I was lying in a grey-colored sofa in crisp, white living room. The glass and the metallic features sharpens the white pieces revealing an elegant, pristine and timeless features in it. The only source of colorful
Shey'sPOV Shit, what was I thinking? Icouldn't care lesson what this man was dreaming about. If not out of compassion, I wouldn't bring him to my house to nurse. It's just so happen that I didn't know anyone of his friends or relatives. My conscience would kill me if I had left him unattended in the cold ground. That's it, nothing more. "Yeah, right." My wolf Kaya emerged from my mind once more. She was beaming from ear to ear like a kid who just had his favorite treat. I wanted so bad to wipe her grin off her face. This made her laugh even more since she was able to read my thoughts. Oops, I completely forgot about that part. She was my wolf and basically living at the back of my head. Stupid me. "You do
Shey'sPOV"Don't tell me youhad waitedhere since two o'clock. Are you stupid?"Iwas answeredwith a faint smile. I looked at Pierre's current state. He was clenching his arms in his chest, his first defense on the piercing coldness of the night. He was wearing casual white polo shirt and a pair of jeans. Since he had arrived earlier in the afternoon, he wasn't wearing any sweater. As a result, his whole body was shivering and almost numb."You-you promised me you'll come so I need to stick to my words and wait for you."Guilt overcame my senses. Never did I imagine he would wait this long. While I'm at home soaking my body into a relaxing bubble bath, here he was sitting at
