AUTUMN:

It was already a long time since Cedric was gone and went to his room, but here I was…still outside Beta maddox’s room, contemplating whether I would enter or not.

I knew him.

I was the last person whom he wanted to take care of him. He hated me that much.

“Remember what you and Cedric had agreed? If you want to succeed, you better start doing it right now.”

Here we go.

I knocked on the door while my heart beat wildly against my ribcage.

“Enter, Cedric,” Beta Maddox said on the other side of the door. His voice sounded like death. If I was not a werewolf, I wouldn't be able to hear him. “It's open.”

His nose must not be working properly right now. He failed to sniff that it was me.

Whatever. I had a goal to do right now.

I twisted the door open.

Holding the glass and medicine tigtely, I pushed the door open and was hit by the heavy feeling

You know the feeling that someone staying in a room where you entered was housing a sick person? That was what I felt when I entered t

AUTUMN:Beta Maddox and I had a staring contest until he was the one who looked away. If he was not sick like this, he would be growling at me and arguing. He was the type who did not want to lose an argument. “You don't like me, Beta Maddox. I know that. But right now you're not feeling well at all. I am the only one here for you.”Inhaling deeply as if he was trying to control his breathing, he stated, “You don't have to waste your time on me. You can go out. Sleep or even chat with your boyfriend.” The word boyfriend seemed sarcastic in my ears. “Me? Who said I am wasting my time on you? I'm just doing my job as your slave. Forget that I am your mate. You relax and let me take care of you, Beta Maddox. I'm your only last bet. If there would be a worse case scenario, I'm the only one who could help you.”He closed his eyes, still clutching his chest. “You don't look good by the way.”“I feel like shit,” he confessed. “Everything hurts like hell.”“You do look like shit, too,” I

AUTUMN:Beta Maddox closes his eyes. “Are you tired? You should go to sleep or the best thing to do right now is to call a pack doctor. They know what is the best thing to do right now.”He shook his head.Stubborn as Alpha Hugh. What if I just called the alpha and informed him about the beta? maybe he will be the one to call a pack doctor.“My body feels like I am burning in hell.”“That's probably because of the sins you committed towards me,” I declared. It was supposed to be a joke, but he did not like it and thought I was serious. “You got a glimpse of what will happen to you when you die.”“You want me to die,” he stated. “I don't die easily.”“Bad grasses don't die easily,” I commented. “You're a bad grass, Beta Maddox. It will take a long time before you will die.”This was not one way of taking care of a sick person. No one was going to hire me if I kept doing this.“You compliment me a lot, Autumn.” He coughed. “You don't have to guard me.”“I want to. I don't want you to

AUTUMN:Beta Maddox was cute ever since we were children. I made sure to tell him that when we were children. And now that he became an adult, he had grown even more handsome. That was undeniable and undisputable. This was the first time I had stared openly at him like this. No wonder Sabrina did not care if she was going to marry the beta. Not the alpha. Inl wondered what would happen if he had accepted me since the moment we found out we were each other's mate? Would our relationship change? Would we return back to when we were children?I sighed. I did not know for sure. His breathing became even. Which meant I had to step out of this room and tell Cedifc that I failed in convincing him that he needed to see the pack doctor. Beta Maddox might feel better now, but he won't the next morning. Just like when he was a child. I've been observing him in the past and he was still feeling the same way. I craned my neck from left to right. My body was already sore from sitting for a lo

AUTUMN:My eyes narrowed even more, not liking Alpha Hugh's tone. Why did he always think that way? “Are you saying that…something is going on between me and Beta Maddox?” There. I said it. A low growl escaped my lips and leaned in. I could feel his anger directed towards me. This man had completely forgotten that he was planning to marry another woman so why was he acting like this?"Why not? A man and a woman, alone in this room. I recalled you had a long time crush on Maddox since we were children," he spat. And now he was bringing the past. What the heck? What did I do to suffer his wrath? I did not deserve this at all. Glancing at the clock on the wall, I saw it was already five o'clock in the morning. Did he only arrive here? If he did, why did he come here? He should have slept instead of reprimanding me like this. I slapped my forehead. "We were only children at that time, Alpha Hugh. What is wrong with you? Is it because you're tired? Sleep if that is what you feel right

AUTUMN: Talk of the devil and he will come, I muttered to myself. My lips curled and leaned furthermore on the wall, as if I did not want him to brush any part of my body . "You're eavesdropping on our conversation, Alpha Hugh." I thought he was going to stay in the beta’s room and take care of him. Staring at his right cheek, I saw that there was still a mark on my hand. It was still red. And maybe it stung a bit. I wondered how many women had slapped him hard. I was talking about the cheeks. Sometimes, someone would slap us during sex but it was on the butt cheeks. 'You're talking as if you had one experience yourself,' Trisha commented. 'Just saying it.' "You did not answer my question, Autumn. Eric was not your boyfriend?" I gave him a half-shrug while I could feel Cedric's eyes shifting between me and the alpha. Now, with the juicy details about me and then alpha right in front of him, his sleepiness was now gone . "What you heard was right, Alpha Hugh. I only lied when

AUTUMN:Sparks instantly flew between us.Trisha, who was sleeping earlier, was suddenly awake and was standing at me with wide eyes. Did Alpha Hugh kiss me even if someone was watching us? Why? What was wrong with him? What did he eat?My knees were shaking and I did not know how to react. His lips reminded me of the pillows inside this house and also the strawberries that I had been constantly craving.Should I push him away or not?Don't you like the kiss?I…liked it so much. It made all the parts of my body alive. And if not for Cedric, I wondered what I would do.One thing was sure. Cedric was an onlooker and he was staring at us.My hands seemed to be frozen and my feet rooted to the ground. This was not our first kiss, but it felt like our first kiss. You know the feeling that your crush had kissed you? This was what I felt right now. My toes curled while my heart felt like it was going to explode soon.Cedric suddenly clears his throat. AUTUMN:"Hi?" I asked once again, but Beta Maddox kept on looking at me. I checked my cheeks for any signs of bread crumbs I ate earlier but there was none. So…why was he staring at me like this? Maybe I should just go back? This was getting even awkward. Maybe this was a bad idea after all. Next time, I should tell myself to stop thinking about the beta. "I get it that you don't want me to be here. Well, thank you for allowing me to enter your room. Have a good rest.""Why are you here?" he asked finally. Did he finally find his tongue? “I never called your presence, Autumn. Aren’t you busy with the alpha?”I froze on the spot and turned around, while I met his gaze. His eyes were still tired from being sick. He needed to rest. Maybe he also got sick because of the stress of the upcoming war.Me? Busy with the alpha? Since when did I become busy in this house? The moment I arrived here, my only job was to take care of Gabriel. Nothing else. Sometimes, a group of people would come

BETA MADDOX:Autumn liked Hugh. The thought left a pang on my chest. I should not be any longer surprised about it. When we were children, I would occasionally catch Autumn looking at the alpha hole he was not looking at. She thought I did not notice anything, but I did. When we became adults, she was still doing it. Glancing at the alpha while he was not looking. Then she would sigh. If we were close, I would ask her what was running on her head. I chose not to. We were no longer that close. I saw it. Saw everything in front of me, but kept my mouth shut and never told anything to the alpha about it.All I wanted was for Hugh not to get destroyed by any woman. When he had Pamela, he almost didn't want the alpha position saying he wanted to focus on the woman and on their child inside her tummy. It was I who made him remember that it was our dream to continue in our parent's footsteps. When the two had a child, it was me who suggested keeping everything a secret and telling the pac

AUTUMN:My breath caught in the air. I did not look at Hugh right away. Instead, I stared at his fingers sliding into mine. It molded perfectly as if we were made for each other. ‘You two are both made for each other,’ Trisha stated, sighing. ‘He is our mateeee!’My heart was loud now. Louder than the squeals of Trisha inside her mind. Could Hugh have heard it, too? I wished he could not. It would only embarrass me even more. Did I like the feel of his hands against mine? His fingers locked mine and I could feel his callouses—one of the signs of how he worked hard to keep the pack safe. His hand reminded me of the great responsibility he was carrying. Until now. I fucking loved the feel of our calloused hands against each other. There might be times when I denied it, but when he did something to surprise me, it was always surprising. Finally, I looked up and saw how Hugh's eyes danced with joy when I did not tug my hand away. "I love you, Autumn. I really do."My heart somersaul

AUTUMN:I did it again. Forgetting that I should be saying that it was my "friend" who was asking. That it was for a friend.Dang it. I should be careful with my words, especially around Mika. This woman was sharp and I could not hide anything from her. "Y-yes. I'm asking for my friend."Her eyes narrowed, suspicion evident in her eyes. “You sure?” she asked as if she was only waiting for me to come clean and confess that there was no friend and it was nothing but me. I bit the inside of my cheeks. Right now, I should be telling her the truth. And nothing but the truth, but…wasn't it too embarrassing already?“N-No.”Mika heaved a sigh. "I know it's you, Miss Autumn," she said, out loud. "I don't get why you have to deny it. I can sense if you're lying or not.""It's not me," I lied once again, wanting to hold on to the lies. "I'm not buying it," Mika said. "Alright, whatever. It's your life. You're my client.”“It wasn't really me.”Trisha rolled her eyes at me. ‘What’s the harm

AUTUMN: The beta’s shout of pain continued to explode like wildfire shattering the silence of the hallway. As much as I did not want to feel any worry for him, I could not help it. His shouts seemed like he was being skinned alive. No wonder Beta Maddox does not want to get treated by Mika. It was because of this. “Hey. Tell me the success rate of healing the beta?” I asked. “You’re worried for him,’ he said matter-of-factly. “Alright. Fine. Yes, I am worried even if I should not be feeling it right now. I hated him. I hated how he rejected me, but dammit. I am not that heartless. I still feel sorry for him right now.” “Maddox had the same reaction when it came to this. But we can be rest assured that he is fine in Mika’s hands.” “Are you sure?” “I am sure.” “You seemed to trust that woman a lot. Is there something going on between you and her in the past?” He glanced at me while his eyes narrowed. “Is that jealousy I hinted at in your voice?” “Of course not! I w

AUTUMN:Maddox’s changing his mind about me? That was the most ridiculous thing that I ever heard right now. Why would he change his mind? What happened that I did not know at all? Using the shoes of my heels, I pointed it on the floor. “Tell me. Did he bump his head or something?”“No.”“So that’s the answer, Hugh. Beta Maddox did not change his mind. Maybe…I did not know.”“Then how would you explain how he changed his mind? He did not want to sever his bond. Which might only meant one thing. He changed his mind. Maybe his feelings when we were children returned.”I threw back my head and laughed. “What the fuck, Hugh?” I asked if I was done laughing. “If you’re going to say something, at least you should anchor it to reality. Maddox never changed his mind.” Making my expression serious, I said, “Let’s forget about this and focus on his healing. Let's waste our energy on that. You needed Maddox on the pack while I don't want to continue visiting him anymore.”It would only give

AUTUMN:With all eyes on Hugh, it seemed that his tongue had retreated. Then, a couple of minutes passed, and he answered, "Yes. I will be shouldering the expenses. Charge everything to me."Mika narrowed her eyes. "Why? Are you her second chance mate?"I coughed and said to change the conversation, "Now, now. It's not about me, but Beta Maddox. Why don't we return to our previous conversation and start healing the beta? So that he could return to the pack house? A lot of warriors might be missing him."Mika clapped her hands. "Alright. I agree. We lost so much time. Beta Maddox, can you handle the severing of your bond?"Secretly, I sighed in relief. "How will you do it?" I asked, plainly curious. Mika smiled. "It's not that simple. I will cast a spell. Others use a potion, but the chances of success are slim. If you want your money not to be wasted, let's go work on casting a spell. But I want to make it clear that there would always be a risk.""What kind of risk?" I asked, sudde

AUTUMN:I felt weird all over because Mika shed tears for me. She did not know me. She did not know my past, so why was she overreacting? No female had ever hugged me like this. Back in my pack, all they did was either bully me or inflict pain on me. They hit me or kicked me whenever they wanted. Including Sabrina, Beta Maddox’s fiancee. But never like this. Now, as Mika continued crying, I couldn't help but feel…comforted. That someone knew my pain? That someone was able to empathize with me. This witch, hugging me was like giving me some kind of comfort, giving me butterflies on my stomach.I shook my head when I realized something. I should never get accustomed to this. This woman…she was a stranger. "There's no need to hug me," I said and pushed her away. There were tears in her eyes. "I'm so sorry for the waterworks. I'm an empath. I could also feel what you are feeling right now. You're heartbroken. I wonder why. Have you perhaps broken up with your lover? Or your mate?"My

AUTUMN:Maddox's reaction was far better than watching the newcomer. From the looks of it, it seemed that the beta did not like the woman at all. Good for him. I wanted him to squirm. I wanted him to be uncomfortable. Just because we had a truce did not mean I was all good to him. On the other hand, the interaction between the two was...how did I say it...interesting? I wondered what was the story between the two?"Autumn."My brows furrowed, realizing there was the alpha standing beside that woman. How come I didn't even notice him?Hugh’s expression darkened as if he was…mad? Again? For staying in the same room with the beta?‘Maddox and I did not do anything wrong,’ I said. ‘You think he has the time to fool around given his condition right now?’ I asked through our mind link, not hiding my annoyance. ‘Why am I even explaining to you? I do not owe you anything, Hugh. Please stop acting jealous because you're not being cute,’ I stated inside his head. ‘Could you blame me? My mate

AUTUMN:I forced a smile even if my heart was breaking apart for some unknown reason. It must be the bond that we shared. This should be cut as soon as possible, to avoid things like this. To avoid getting hurt like this. Again. “Good. So…when will your wedding be?”“Next month,” he said and coughed. Next month. Next month would also be six months of working in this house. Six months of taking care of the alpha's son. “Alright. I will be there at your service, Beta Maddox. I will be happy to be there as long as the price is right,” I declared, forcing my voice to sound cheery as much as possible. The corner of his lips lifted. “Everything should have a price, huh?”I gave him a half-shrug. “It should be. After all, it’s not easy to face Sabrina. I know why she wanted me. She wanted to rub on my face that she’s one lucky woman when you marry her.” I scoffed. “I will never forget what she did to me. Never.”“It’s your right,” he said. AUTUMN:Hugh loved me. He loved me? He loved me!The confession shocked me to the core and all I could do was watch him with wide eyes. When I did not say anything at all, he continued, "I loved you, Autumn and I am willing to risk everything to have you. I want to spend the rest of my days with you. I'm so sorry for taking this too long to say, but now, I am one hundred percent sure of my feelings for you."A confession coming from him was definitely not what I expected. "What about your mother? What about your family? What about your pack? What about Beta Maddox? What about the people around you?” I asked. His brows formed a straight line. "Just because I loved her does not mean I'm going to listen to her when it comes to relationships. You're my mate, Autumn and I will do my best to keep you in my life."A lump suddenly formed in my throat, and what happened earlier was temporarily forgotten.Hugh loved me. My mate loved me. Finally.
