AUTUMN:
First it was confusion and the next, I was glaring back at Beta Maddox. With no plans of answering him, I hurried cleaning the hallways, mopping everything and when I was done, gathered all the cleaning materials that the other omega's had dropped on the floor. “Have you gone mute?” he asked. “I said why are you cleaning the hall alone?” At the corner of my gaze, he pocketed his phone in his pocket, while eyeing me. “I did not need an audience, Beta Maddox.” Telling him why the others left was a waste of time. There was no guarantee that he would take my side. He rejected me, remember? Seeing him will only make the mate bond painful. Just because I carried it well did not mean that I was no longer in pain. “I am overseeing things, Autumn. You're not answering my question.” “I'm not the only one working. Try to check if the others are done as well.” I double checked the hallway, checking if there were still spots that were left. But there was none. “Done. You're the only one left. I will talk to the other omega's.” “It was supposed to be me with the rest of the omega's, but not anymore,” I mumbled to myself. Forcing a smile and looking at him, I added, “You don't have to do that, Beta Maddox. Thank you so much, too for checking on the hall. It meant a lot for Hugh. Oh no. Alpha Hugh.” “Is that sarcasm in your voice, Autumn?” Looking at him with a dry expression I replied, “Think whatever you want, Beta Maddox. My job here is finished. If you will excuse me.” “Return your cleaning tools to the materials and come after with me.” My heart skipped a bit. It does not have anything to do with the mate bond. Don't get your hopes high. Raising my eyebrows, I asked, “Why should I do that, Beta Maddox? I don't want your fiancee to slap me once again.” ‘You think I will let that happen again?’ Trisha growled. ‘Not a chance.’ “That will not happen,” he reassured. “She will receive a scolding from me. I don't tolerate bullying in this pack.” You don't have any idea, Beta Maddoxx. “Oh, no. You don't have any idea about your woman.” Too. She's a monster. A monster hiding with a beautiful face. “Sabrina could be difficult to handle at times, but most of the time…she's…” Funny how everyone kept on defending her even if she was the one at fault. They believed she was a saint and her minions were even worshipping the ground she walked on. “She’s kind? I don't think so.” Damn. Why did I keep on entertaining him? I better run away from him. “Autumn. I meant it when I said that the alpha wanted to see you,” he repeated. What for? They had already abandoned our friendship so we should treat each other as if we did not exist. “No, thank you. I am busy this evening.” “I'm planning to go out in the city.” I already had contacted someone. There was a vacant job for cleaning a house. I would grab that one. Omega's were not forbidden to grab some extra jobs as long as we were done with our jobs in the pack house. “Why?” Looking at him dryly, I answered, “What else? I need some cash. Looking for cash is more important than attending the party.” Besides, I did not have anything to wear. They said it was formal attire. I did not have anything except some used clothes. “You could be charged for that.” “Not attending the alpha's party could be charged with imprisonment? I wished those who rejected their mates would be charged, too,” I said with a dry tone. The beta walked after with me as if he was a lost puppy. “Don't talk lightly about that,” he murmured while scanning the surroundings. “I will keep on talking if you keep on following me. The others will know about our relationship, Beta Maddox. And you will regret it,” I threatened. “You’re not the one threatening me, Autumn. You're not allowed to work. You will attend the party, whether you want it or not. That's an order from me, your beta.” And he walked ahead of me, leaving me dumbfounded.AUTUMN:I was in my room, cursing Beta Maddox for I did not know how many times already. My heart had been pounding like crazy. A mixture of anger. Pain. And annoyance.I did not understand why they wanted me to join the party. No. Why did the alpha want me to join the party? For what, actually? To rub it on my face that I was completely alone in this place? If I joined the party, I would only be left behind. The rest would only make me a clown in the party. I would feel miserable and heartbroken at the same time. Damn them! I cursed for the nth time while biting my fingernails. What are they trying to prove? Pacing back and forth, I could hear my phone had been ringing nonstop. It was my boss. The one who hired me for a part-time job. I did not know how to answer him, actually. He was one of the few mortals who made this world bearable. He was understanding of my situation, even if he knew who I was and my role in the pack. In this time, werewolves and the rest of the species
AUTUMN:The dress felt so heavy in my hands and automatically returned it to the beta. Brows furrowing, I stared back at Beta Maddox, while trying to wrap in my mind why the alpha would suddenly act like we were best friends. Giving me this dress so that I could attend the party? What's his reason? To taunt me? To make fun of me? To make my life even more miserable? We were in the past, but not anymore. Omega's were not forbidden to attend the party. Everyone was invited to join. “Why did you return the dress?” he asked. “Did you not hear what I said? This was a gift from the alpha. Refusing this meant you were not acknowledging him as your superior which could cause serious consequences on your part as an omega.”I heard it loud and clear. It was from the alpha. But the question was, why? What was more hurtful about being rejected by my mate?‘I told you to move on and look for our second chance mate,’ my wolf reminded me. ‘Stop acting like this.’Sighing, I said, "I don't underst
AUTUMN:My packmates were already having fun outside. Me? I'm still debating if I will join or not. The elegant dress was still in my bed, waiting for me to put it on. Now that I had a real look at it, it was an elegant solid fold V neck pleated dress. A red one where anyone would glance at me. Earlier, I put it on to check if it fit me, and to my amazement, it did fit as if the dress were meant for me.Meant for you? Stop dreaming, girl. What was Alpha Hugh thinking? Embarrassing me like this?Remember when he played a prank on you where he pulled out the check when you were about to sit? Remember those times when he told you that your parents were calling you only to find out that they did not? He was laughing so hard that his stomach ached a lot. Those were our bittersweet memories which we could no longer go back to. Time was ticking and if I stayed here even longer, someone might be asked to fetch me and force me not to join the party, but to spend the rest of my days in a du
AUTUMN:It was a cliche, but when I said that I looked like a completely different person was an underestimate. The woman completely changed me into someone else that I could no longer recognize.I didn't really believe that I was ugly. I was blessed with looks that I inherited from my deceased mother. But after what happened, my outlook completely changed. I now believed that I was ugly and seeing my face in the mirror reminded me always of the tragedy that befell on our family. The head makeup artist stared at me in the mirror and asked, “Well? I want to assume that you're speechless because of what you see? What do you think? If you wear that dress it will completely compliment that look."My eyes darted to the dress on the bed which was completely out of place in my room. With the look I had right now, then I could say that I well blend in the crowd. Everyone was waiting for this day to come and the arrival of the alpha, believing that they will be the alpha's or the beta’s mate
AUTUMN:I felt like there was a lump on my throat. My second chance mate was here. He was here! My heart felt like it was going to burst with happiness. I wanted to kiss the alpha for forcing me to come here. If I got stubborn and forced myself to take the part time job, then, I would never be given the chance with this opportunity. Who would have thought that within a short period of time, I would be given the chance to meet him? But where?Scanning the surroundings, I tried to look for him. Until I found a pair of forest green eyes staring back at me.My breath caught in my throat while my surroundings seemed like it had faded in the background. It was only me and my mate. ‘Look who it is,’ Trisha whispered. ‘Look who is our second chance mate,’ he added. My eyes were already glowing on him and could not take it away, even if someone asked me to. The smell of the spicy scent was stronger than ever as he sauntered towards me. As if he was the king, the crowd parted for him, bu
AUTUMN:Alpha Hugh kept on staring at me as if I was some fine specimen under the microscope. Back then, his gaze was full of innocence and warmth, but right now, it seemed as if he was stripping me of the clothes I wore. My breathing labored. I was the one who suggested this place, knowing no one would be allowed to come here. In fact, only a few people (slaves) were allowed to come in this place to clean. Strictly. “Why did you give me this dress?” I asked instead. There was no way that he would know that we were mates. We no longer were children who wanted to be each other's mates. His forehead formed a knot. “Dress? Do you think I would waste my time buying an omega a dress?”My mouth opened and closed. After a couple of seconds, I found myself asking, “You did not buy this for me?”“Why would I?”My eyebrows furrowed. Did the beta lie? Then, who gave me this dress? “He said…”“Who?”“The beta.” “Maddox.” He threw back his head and laughed. “Why would he lie about that? I
AUTUMN:The alpha was lying, right? Maybe he was back to his games. He loved pranks in the past. He must be because why would he accept someone like me? The beta rejected me so I did not think he would do the opposite to me. ‘Why are you not even thankful? Someone finally wanted us and did not consider rejecting us,’ Trisha muttered. Clenching my fist, I answered my wolf, ‘Do I have to say that I was thankful to him for not rejecting us? Don't you think the end game of this is just another rejection? If it's the same ending, I would rather want this to end right now. The alpha is toying with our emotions. There is no way he would accept us. He will only make us his plaything.’I folded my arms in front of my chest and returned the same intensity of gaze to him. He cocked his eyebrows. “When I heard you want to talk to me in private, you got me excited there for a bit, Autumn.”“Why? You believed I will fuck you?”He laughed. “Where was the innocent Autumn in the past? It looked lik
AUTUMN:This woman got to be kidding me. To say that I was one of the alpha’s women was something I did not expect. I was nothing compared to them. They all came from good families and backgrounds. While me? What could I be proud of? Being the cursed one of the pack?Alpha Hugh stared at me for a few minutes and responded to the woman, “You don't have to be jealous. This woman is my…” he trailed while wearing a smirk on his face.My grip on the glass tightened. He was clearly toying with me. I was about to respond, to correct the woman, but bit the inside of my cheeks to stop me from saying anything. It will never help. I should keep my mouth shut. Slaves like me did not have to defend oneself. The woman glared at me. I could smell her intense jealousy as the alpha continued his silence. “You’re what? Your friend? Don't use that alibi, Alpha Hugh. I won't ever buy that one. You never had a woman friend. All the women around you were either your girlfriends or fuck buddy. This w
AUTUMN:I could feel Alpha Hugh's on me and Eric. He had a lot of questions. I could see it in his eyes, but he did not blurt them out loud. We were not doing anything wrong, but why did my heart keep on beating wildly against my ribcage? Why did I feel as if I was scared that he would say something like he was disappointed that I was accepting Eric even if it was still my work. "No, Alpha Hugh," Eric responded. He never bothered to step back so that Alpha Hugh would stop giving us weird looks. I shifted my weight from foot to foot. How do I deal with situations like this? I did not know how. When I was serving as the slave of the pack, all I cared about was on how to do my assigned work. Who would have thought that there would be an upgrade and that I would also be thinking about me? When Alpha Hugh continued staring at us, I put a safe space between Eric and me. Alpha Hugh did not answer for a few minutes and only stared at us. Damn it. What did he want? I already put some
AUTUMN:ALPHA HUGH was about to say something, but chose to close his mouth. Then he said, “I will call you later, dad.”I sighed in relief. I did not wahg to see any member of his family and put myself in a miserable situation. I was not ready to see the disappointed look on their faces. “Hugh. Is it true that you found your mate? We need to celebrate. You should inform the pack about it.” This was the first time I heard the former alpha this happy. Normally, he was always serious and his voice felt like thunder echoing from all over the pack house. But now…all I heard was a dad who was genuinely happy for his son. Would he be happy like that if he found out that it was me? Remembering my childhood, the alpha's family were hospitable and treated me kindly when my dad was still alive. They let me play with Alpha Hugh. Everything only changed when I became an orphan. “I will, Dad,” he said and added, “I will tell the rest of the details when I visit the house again with my son.”He
AUTUMN:“WHAT DO you want me to do for you, Autumn?” Alpha Hugh asked, sounding hopeful. I pretended to think for a moment, even if I already knew what I wanted from the beginning. My freedom. From him. From being the slave of the pack. I just wanted to be free where I could finally be happy. Did I deserve to be happy? After what happens to my family? “You know what I want in the beginning. Reject me,” I asked instead. “If you do that, then I will know that you're being serious about it.”His face hardened. “I cannot do that. I want to keep you, Autumn. Rejecting you is the last thing that I will do.”“Really? If that's the case, you will introduce me to your family.”Of course he was not able to do that. He could not do that. This was the alpha we were talking about. His eyes widened. I was already expecting that reaction and he would say no. Think of all the alibis he could say. He will disappoint me again. Just as I was about to open my mouth, he said, “Is that what you want?
AUTUMN:THE REST OF THE DAYS flew smoothly. Beta Maddox and I would occasionally meet in any of the corners of the house, but I was the one who would look away and pretend that I did not see him at all. The beta had not given me his decision whether he was going to pay for my talent fee or not. Yes. He should be paying me for my talent since I was the one who would face Sabrina whom I was certain would only mock me or even bully me there. When they wed, I will no longer bring any gifts for them. My presence was already enough. Let us see if Sabrina could still fathom seeing me. One time, when our path crossed when we were in the stairs, the beta would open his mouth, and was about to say something. I waited until words would come out from his mouth…that he would call my name, but he would go on and pretend as if he did not see me too.Coward or what? I guessed he was not willing to spend some fortune for his beloved Sabrina. If the beta was acting nonchalant, the alpha was the o
AUTUMN:Cedric’s eyes shifted from the alpha, the beta, and me. And shook his head. “Something must be really wrong with you three,” Cedric stated. “I don’t understand this kind of set-up. How come it’s fine with the three of you to be paired with somebody else? You don’t know how painful it is when your mate will marry someone else. To the point that you wanted to die,” he explained. “You three should fix this one.”“There is nothing to fix since this connection was already destroyed before it will start.”Was I in pain? I was still. But I did not want to look miserable in front of them. “Autumn….” Alpha Hugh called. I raised my hand. “You don't have to defend yourself, Alpha Hugh. I perfectly know the reason. That's why I am shifting my focus on Eric. He is a good man. And whatever you say, nothing will make me change my mind.”Cedric shook his head again. “Why was I the only one who thought the three of you should do something about it?”“Nothing should be done, Cedric. I am alr
AUTUMN: Sabrina must be freaking kidding me. What the heck was she thinking asking me to be her bridesmaid? Was she out of her mjns;? “Tell her she did not know what she was asking,” I muttered. If she will not practice now, what will she do? “Of all the women, why did it have to be Autumn? No offense, beta maddox, but your woman…she’s crazy sometimes.” “It’s not sometimes. She is always crazy.” What was her deal? Why did she have to ask for my presence at her wedding? It only meant one thing. “Did she know about our connection? Did you tell her about us?” Beta Maddox’s brows furrowed. “Why would I do that?” “You’re the only one who could answer that one, Beta Maddox. But you can tell your fiancee that I am busy. There’s so many things to do inside this house.” “You’re never busy, Autumn,” the beta insisted. I know what you're doing inside this house. You rarely take care of Gabriel. You let him do whatever he wants while you clean. Is cleaning more important than the future a
AUTUMN:I was already expecting that no one would answer Cedric’s question, but the beta responded, “It's because of the impending war. We don't want to lose our people and the alpha needs to marry the Alpha's daughter to save our people.”“I haven't decided yet, Maddox. Right now, I want you to shut your mouth while I think about it.”“I thought we were done with this, Hugh? You said you're going to meet that woman.” “I did say that, but I never said any date. I need to think about this a couple of times.”“Fuck,” Maddox cursed. “Do you think your people could wait? You heated them every day. And yet you could not even decide right now? What is stopping you, Hugh? Wake up! The people needed you!”Where was Gabriel again? I was glad that he was not here. Maybe he went upstairs and went to his room. It was safe if we were the only ones who talked about it.“Don’t you think I did not know that, Maddox? I am aware that the war should be stopped before it takes place, but I don’t want to
AUTUMN:Alpha Hugh’s eyes widened. “You’re in a relationship now?”“Yes,” I replied. “So please allow me to reject you, Alpha Hugh. Or you can reject me right now. it will be both beneficial for the two of us, Alpha HUgh. Let’s free ourselves from each other.”His face darkened once again. “No.”Someone suddenly cleared his throat. Glancing over my shoulder, I found Eric standing while holding some snacks. The sight made my stomach growl. “Uhm, did I interrupt something?”Alpha Hugh stood. “Gabby and I are going now. You can come with us if you want, Autumn.”Come with him? What did he think of me? Shameless and did not even have any dignity at all? After what he revealed, the more I wanted to stay here and think about everything once and for all. “No. I want to spend more time with Eric, Alpha Hugh. We will go home later.”“Don’t come home late,” he recalled and went inside his awaiting car. I gave me a curt nod. “Here, Autumn.” Eric gave me a cup and it turned out it was some kin
AUTUMN:What the heck was happening with my life? My first mate rejected me. My second chance mate was undecided with me. And now, he was telling me about a woman whom he was going to marry without even considering my feelings?Isn’t asking what you think of him marrying someone else one way of considering your feelings? another part of my mind asked. Would it be better if I did not know at all? ‘It was your fault in the first place,’ Trisha stated. ‘You told him you’re going to accept Eric’s feelings right now. That might be the reason why he finally decided on considering the woman as his wife.’‘He really did not have any feelings for me, right?’ All he wanted was to be friends with me again. Nothing else. ‘Tell me what I should do, Trisha.’My heart felt suddenly heavy as if there was a large elephant inside it.I just wanted to shift and let Trisha take over. A long run would be nice. I was pathetic. How could I long for someone’s acceptance to be his mate? How could I not mov
