AUTUMN:

Those memories were what keep me doing. If the did not exist, what would keep me going?

Beta Maddox stared at me for a long time before he heaved a long sigh.

"I'm not asking you to forget them. I'm asking you to move on from the past. There's no way that would happen. I'm talking about the promises we did, Autumn. As you can see, I am already arranged to marry to Sabrina. I cannot say no to the elders. I have no—"

Damn him!

He had no choice, really? “Stop!” I said cutting off his word. It was uninteresting to hear how he was an obedient beta.

Gathering my courage, I asked, "Is there anything else you want to say, Beta Maddox? I don't want to hear anymore of the past."

He opened his mouth, and was about to say something, but closed it again.

Good because I did not want to hear any of his lame excuses.

"Can I ask something, Beta Maddox?"

"What is it?"

"Don't call me anymore especially if we are in private. Sabrina, your fiancee will get mad at me for sure." Especially if she found out that we were mates.

"Autumn... Hugh is looking forward to seeing you."

"I don't know why you are saying those things," I said. They had forgotten about me. And I wanted to keep it that way.  "It does not matter anymore, Beta Maddox. Excuse me."

“Autumn…” he called. “He is really looking forward to see you.”

Who? Alpha Hugh? Why did he want to see me? I did not owe him anything.

------

The days passed by easily and the next thing I knew, we were now busy for the alpha's welcome party that will take place this evening.

If I was to be asked, this should no longer be needed. I meant, what's the point when he was always in and out of the pack.

As a result, all the omega's were working. And when no one was overseeing the whole preparation for tonight's party,  the rest of the omega's would shove their works for me.

"Make sure you are done with everything when Beta Maddox returns," one of the omega said and dropped their mops to the ground, creating a loud click.

"Right. If you're not done, you will be the one who is done," one said among the group. She looked like the leader. I pitied them. They were only like this when no one was watching.

One of them even spat on the ground I was cleaning and almost spit on me. They laughed before turning their backs.

'Really? That's all you can do? Act pathetic? That's why everyone is bullying you. Even the other omega's were now joining the wagon,' Trish said, her tone dry.

Putting the rest of the mops to the side, I asked, 'What do you want me to do? Kill them?'

'Burn them alive. They are pathetic bitches who deserve to die. Allow me to burn them until they begged me to stop,' she whispered with a smug look on her face as if she was already imagining what she was doing.

A shiver ran down my spine. Trisha was capable of doing that.

'Enough of that. Let's not attract more enemies.'

'I want them to bring them on,' she declared.

I muted her and focused on finishing the cleaning of the ground. Everything was almost done. Decorations? Check. Sound system? Check. Foods? They started arriving. The only one whom we were waiting for was Alpha Hugh.

How did he look now? Will he be the same man as he was when we were children? What was the things that made him happy? The same Hugh in the past?

He might look the same, but he will be like Maddox who wanted me to forget the past. He will no longer treat me as his childhood friend. He will....treated me as his servant. Nothing else. Nothing more.

"Why are you cleaning the hall alone again?"

My heart raced hearing the sound of the new voice. And when I looked up, it was nothing but my ex-mate who was scanning the surroundings. Perhaps to check if someone would see us or not.

What the...

Why was he here again?

AUTUMN:First it was confusion and the next, I was glaring back at Beta Maddox. With no plans of answering him, I hurried cleaning the hallways, mopping everything and when I was done, gathered all the cleaning materials that the other omega's had dropped on the floor. “Have you gone mute?” he asked. “I said why are you cleaning the hall alone?”At the corner of my gaze, he pocketed his phone in his pocket, while eyeing me.“I did not need an audience, Beta Maddox.” Telling him why the others left was a waste of time. There was no guarantee that he would take my side. He rejected me, remember? Seeing him will only make the mate bond painful. Just because I carried it well did not mean that I was no longer in pain. “I am overseeing things, Autumn. You're not answering my question.” “I'm not the only one working. Try to check if the others are done as well.”I double checked the hallway, checking if there were still spots that were left. But there was none. “Done. You're the only o

AUTUMN:I was in my room, cursing Beta Maddox for I did not know how many times already. My heart had been pounding like crazy. A mixture of anger. Pain. And annoyance.I did not understand why they wanted me to join the party. No. Why did the alpha want me to join the party? For what, actually? To rub it on my face that I was completely alone in this place? If I joined the party, I would only be left behind. The rest would only make me a clown in the party. I would feel miserable and heartbroken at the same time. Damn them! I cursed for the nth time while biting my fingernails. What are they trying to prove? Pacing back and forth, I could hear my phone had been ringing nonstop. It was my boss. The one who hired me for a part-time job. I did not know how to answer him, actually. He was one of the few mortals who made this world bearable. He was understanding of my situation, even if he knew who I was and my role in the pack. In this time, werewolves and the rest of the species

AUTUMN:The dress felt so heavy in my hands and automatically returned it to the beta. Brows furrowing, I stared back at Beta Maddox, while trying to wrap in my mind why the alpha would suddenly act like we were best friends. Giving me this dress so that I could attend the party? What's his reason? To taunt me? To make fun of me? To make my life even more miserable? We were in the past, but not anymore. Omega's were not forbidden to attend the party. Everyone was invited to join. “Why did you return the dress?” he asked. “Did you not hear what I said? This was a gift from the alpha. Refusing this meant you were not acknowledging him as your superior which could cause serious consequences on your part as an omega.”I heard it loud and clear. It was from the alpha. But the question was, why? What was more hurtful about being rejected by my mate?‘I told you to move on and look for our second chance mate,’ my wolf reminded me. ‘Stop acting like this.’Sighing, I said, "I don't underst

AUTUMN:My packmates were already having fun outside. Me? I'm still debating if I will join or not. The elegant dress was still in my bed, waiting for me to put it on. Now that I had a real look at it, it was an elegant solid fold V neck pleated dress. A red one where anyone would glance at me. Earlier, I put it on to check if it fit me, and to my amazement, it did fit as if the dress were meant for me.Meant for you? Stop dreaming, girl. What was Alpha Hugh thinking? Embarrassing me like this?Remember when he played a prank on you where he pulled out the check when you were about to sit? Remember those times when he told you that your parents were calling you only to find out that they did not? He was laughing so hard that his stomach ached a lot. Those were our bittersweet memories which we could no longer go back to. Time was ticking and if I stayed here even longer, someone might be asked to fetch me and force me not to join the party, but to spend the rest of my days in a du

AUTUMN:It was a cliche, but when I said that I looked like a completely different person was an underestimate. The woman completely changed me into someone else that I could no longer recognize.I didn't really believe that I was ugly. I was blessed with looks that I inherited from my deceased mother. But after what happened, my outlook completely changed. I now believed that I was ugly and seeing my face in the mirror reminded me always of the tragedy that befell on our family. The head makeup artist stared at me in the mirror and asked, “Well? I want to assume that you're speechless because of what you see? What do you think? If you wear that dress it will completely compliment that look."My eyes darted to the dress on the bed which was completely out of place in my room. With the look I had right now, then I could say that I well blend in the crowd. Everyone was waiting for this day to come and the arrival of the alpha, believing that they will be the alpha's or the beta’s mate

AUTUMN:I felt like there was a lump on my throat. My second chance mate was here. He was here! My heart felt like it was going to burst with happiness. I wanted to kiss the alpha for forcing me to come here. If I got stubborn and forced myself to take the part time job, then, I would never be given the chance with this opportunity. Who would have thought that within a short period of time, I would be given the chance to meet him? But where?Scanning the surroundings, I tried to look for him. Until I found a pair of forest green eyes staring back at me.My breath caught in my throat while my surroundings seemed like it had faded in the background. It was only me and my mate. ‘Look who it is,’ Trisha whispered. ‘Look who is our second chance mate,’ he added. My eyes were already glowing on him and could not take it away, even if someone asked me to. The smell of the spicy scent was stronger than ever as he sauntered towards me. • THE ALPHA'S DOWNFALL   [13]

AUTUMN:Alpha Hugh kept on staring at me as if I was some fine specimen under the microscope. Back then, his gaze was full of innocence and warmth, but right now, it seemed as if he was stripping me of the clothes I wore. My breathing labored. I was the one who suggested this place, knowing no one would be allowed to come here. In fact, only a few people (slaves) were allowed to come in this place to clean. Strictly. “Why did you give me this dress?” I asked instead. There was no way that he would know that we were mates. We no longer were children who wanted to be each other's mates. His forehead formed a knot. “Dress? Do you think I would waste my time buying an omega a dress?”My mouth opened and closed. After a couple of seconds, I found myself asking, “You did not buy this for me?”“Why would I?”My eyebrows furrowed. Did the beta lie? Then, who gave me this dress? “He said…”“Who?”“The beta.” “Maddox.” He threw back his head and laughed. “Why would he lie about that? I

AUTUMN:The alpha was lying, right? Maybe he was back to his games. He loved pranks in the past. He must be because why would he accept someone like me? The beta rejected me so I did not think he would do the opposite to me. ‘Why are you not even thankful? Someone finally wanted us and did not consider rejecting us,’ Trisha muttered. Clenching my fist, I answered my wolf, ‘Do I have to say that I was thankful to him for not rejecting us? Don't you think the end game of this is just another rejection? If it's the same ending, I would rather want this to end right now. The alpha is toying with our emotions. There is no way he would accept us. He will only make us his plaything.’I folded my arms in front of my chest and returned the same intensity of gaze to him. He cocked his eyebrows. “When I heard you want to talk to me in private, you got me excited there for a bit, Autumn.”“Why? You believed I will fuck you?”He laughed. “Where was the innocent Autumn in the past? It looked lik

His shouts seemed like he was being skinned alive. No wonder Beta Maddox does not want to get treated by Mika. It was because of this.“Hey. Tell me the success rate of healing the beta?” I asked.“You’re worried for him,’ he said matter-of-factly. “Alright. Fine. Yes, I am worried even if I should not be feeling it right now. I hated him. I hated how he rejected me, but dammit. I am not that heartless. I still feel sorry for him right now.”“Maddox had the same reaction when it came to this. But we can be rest assured that he is fine in Mika’s hands.”“Are you sure?”“I am sure.”“You seemed to trust that woman a lot. Is there something going on between you and her in the past?”He glanced at me while his eyes narrowed. “Is that jealousy I hinted at in your voice?”“Of course not! I would never get jealou

AUTUMN:Maddox’s changing his mind about me? That was the most ridiculous thing that I ever heard right now. Why would he change his mind? What happened that I did not know at all? Using the shoes of my heels, I pointed it on the floor. “Tell me. Did he bump his head or something?”“No.”“So that’s the answer, Hugh. Beta Maddox did not change his mind. Maybe…I did not know.”“Then how would you explain how he changed his mind? He did not want to sever his bond. Which might only meant one thing. He changed his mind. Maybe his feelings when we were children returned.”I threw back my head and laughed. “What the fuck, Hugh?” I asked if I was done laughing. “If you’re going to say something, at least you should anchor it to reality. Maddox never changed his mind.” Making my expression serious, I said, “Let’s forget about this and focus on his healing. Let's waste our energy on that. You needed Maddox on the pack while I don't want to continue visiting him anymore.”It would only give

Charge everything to me."Mika narrowed her eyes. "Why? Are you her second chance mate?"I coughed and said to change the conversation, "Now, now. It's not about me, but Beta Maddox. Why don't we return to our previous conversation and start healing the beta? So that he could return to the pack house? A lot of warriors might be missing him."Mika clapped her hands. "Alright. I agree. We lost so much time. Beta Maddox, can you handle the severing of your bond?"Secretly, I sighed in relief. "How will you do it?" I asked, plainly curious. Mika smiled. "It's not that simple. I will cast a spell. Others use a potion, but the chances of success are slim. If you want your money not to be wasted, let's go work on casting a spell. But I want to make it clear that there would always be a risk.""What kind of risk?" I asked, sudde

AUTUMN:I felt weird all over because Mika shed tears for me. She did not know me. She did not know my past, so why was she overreacting? No female had ever hugged me like this. Back in my pack, all they did was either bully me or inflict pain on me. They hit me or kicked me whenever they wanted. Including Sabrina, Beta Maddox’s fiancee. But never like this. Now, as Mika continued crying, I couldn't help but feel…comforted. That someone knew my pain? That someone was able to empathize with me. This witch, hugging me was like giving me some kind of comfort, giving me butterflies on my stomach.I shook my head when I realized something. I should never get accustomed to this. This woman…she was a stranger. "There's no need to hug me," I said and pushed her away. There were tears in her eyes. "I'm so sorry for the waterworks. I'm an empath. I could also feel what you are feeling right now. You're heartbroken. I wonder why. Have you perhaps broken up with your lover? Or your mate?"My

AUTUMN:Maddox's reaction was far better than watching the newcomer. From the looks of it, it seemed that the beta did not like the woman at all. Good for him. I wanted him to squirm. I wanted him to be uncomfortable. Just because we had a truce did not mean I was all good to him. On the other hand, the interaction between the two was...how did I say it...interesting? I wondered what was the story between the two?"Autumn."My brows furrowed, realizing there was the alpha standing beside that woman. How come I didn't even notice him?Hugh’s expression darkened as if he was…mad? Again? For staying in the same room with the beta?‘Maddox and I did not do anything wrong,’ I said. ‘You think he has the time to fool around given his condition right now?’ I asked through our mind link, not hiding my annoyance. ‘Why am I even explaining to you? I do not owe you anything, Hugh. Please stop acting jealous because you're not being cute,’ I stated inside his head. ‘Could you blame me? My mate

To avoid getting hurt like this. Again. “Good. So…when will your wedding be?”“Next month,” he said and coughed. Next month. Next month would also be six months of working in this house. Six months of taking care of the alpha's son. “Alright. I will be there at your service, Beta Maddox. I will be happy to be there as long as the price is right,” I declared, forcing my voice to sound cheery as much as possible. The corner of his lips lifted. “Everything should have a price, huh?”I gave him a half-shrug. “It should be. After all, it’s not easy to face Sabrina. I know why she wanted me. She wanted to rub on my face that she’s one lucky woman when you marry her.” I scoffed. “I will never forget what she did to me. Never.”“It’s your right,” he said. When I did not say anything at all, he continued, "I loved you, Autumn and I am willing to risk everything to have you. I want to spend the rest of my days with you. I'm so sorry for taking this too long to say, but now, I am one hundred percent sure of my feelings for you."A confession coming from him was definitely not what I expected. "What about your mother? What about your family? What about your pack? What about Beta Maddox? What about the people around you?” I asked. His brows formed a straight line. "Just because I loved her does not mean I'm going to listen to her when it comes to relationships. Worry for this woman. My heart sank, and I bit my lower lip. Dang it. Why did I finally become sad? "Let's bring him to the hospital," I said when he just stared at the woman, completely mesmerized. "Just to be sure. She might have unseen injuries which we did not know at all."His eyes never left the woman, and he did not respond to me right away. I shifted my eyes at the woman. Curly red hair. Oval face and breast that perfectly molded her body. Despite her dirty appearance, she was gorgeous.Eric cleared his throat. This must be the first time he saw his mate. "You're right.
