ANNA’S POV

My heart was swelling with the sweet scent of the flowers and all I wanted to do in that moment was hug him and the flowers together, but I knew I had to stay in control. My father might need me, but I had to focus and take emotions out of my thoughts.

“Thanks,” I mentioned, taking the flowers from him. I got up from the vanity chair and moved to the bedside table where he had placed the white roses and I fixed the jasmines in them. “But we should get going now…”

Xavier came to stand by me and offered me his arm, “Sure, after you my lady,” he teased, and a small smile played on my lips.

For the first time, I found his humor cute and not annoying even after all the tension I was put in. As our hands came into contact, a warmth filled me and for a few seconds, I forgot all about my problems and just took in the comfort his arms brought.
