Sheila

Washing my body slowly in the warm water, I didn’t bother getting up to know Neil’s letter has been found.

I took a sip of my wine as I relaxed into the bath, letting the warm water envelop me and wash my stress away. It was a full-time job being ahead of everyone and incredibly smart.

Now I was sure Kaiden had sent the best men he could to follow Neil’s scent, like the brainless lover boy he was. And just as I said, I heard the numerous growls of the transformed guards and the sound of the human-form guards riding their horses, confirming my prediction.

Kaiden was just too predictable. It was almost too easy.

A knock at the door pulled me from my relaxation, but I didn’t bother responding. Anyone who truly needed my attention would have the sense to come in. If they hesitated, then they weren’t worth my time.

I took another slow sip of my wine, savoring the rich taste.

Hmm… This was what being Queen got you. Exclusively aged wine from the start of the werewolf race, exotic spi

KaidenDamon was not around to help me, so a manservant helped me head up onto the roof, for the second round of the rituals. These past few fours made me realize how much I took being a wolf, an Alpha king, for granted. I hardly ever felt physical pain, but this was running me into the ground.I only hoped I was prepared for this next ritual. I did promise to do whatever it took to find her and I was ready to. Sheila was discussing with Mirena when I got there, and the minute she saw me, she rushed to my side, her gaze softening. “Aw Kaiden, you look extremely weak. After this, I would have to give you a hot water bath therapy.” she beamed.I studied her face, and her appearance, noticing something was different. I warmed up to seeing her. How did that happen? How did I feel comforted in her presence? She saw me study her face and her smile disappeared as she seemed to remember something.“Oh, if your mate allows that is. I may be your wife, but I know where we stand.”“Your Highnes

CelineI have been working as a slave maid for five years to earn redemption for a crime I never committed. At three p.m. today, my last shift ends, meaning I won’t have to be a slave anymore. My eyes landed on the clock, and I watched as it chimed three. At the same time, the invisible weight I had carried on my shoulders for the last five years was lifted. A tear slid down my cheek.“I’m free,” I whispered to myself as I got up from my spot on the floor. Today, I was going to see my parents when they came to get me. A smile widened on my lips again. I would get to see my mama again.“You still believe that they care about you?” my wolf spoke up and sighed.“They will come, Silver. You are so pessimistic. I may not be their real daughter, but I am still a part of their family.”Silver scoffed. “But they didn’t come to check on you? Not even a letter? That family doesn’t deserve you.”When I was young, I never doubted who I was. I was the Alpha’s daughter. My parents loved me, and my b

Celine The world tilted beneath my feet. “No… that’s not true,” I whispered, shaking my head. “They promised-” They promised to take me home after I was released from the palace. “They lied.” Sheila’s words cut me as sharp as a blade would. “They don’t care about you. They don’t even remember you exist. Honestly, you should thank me. At least now you know where you stand. On your knees, scrubbing floors. It suits you.” A tear slid from my eye. My parents lied about the service term. They were never going to get me after five years? “Please don’t do this to me. ” Sheila smirked, her eyes glinting with malice. “Oh, Celine, this is what you are good for. Now refill my cup, slave.” She sneered holding up her tea cup for me to fill. I sniffled back my tears as I took small steps to the chair she and Anya sat in, looking at me with hatred in their eyes. I didn't believe her words. Mother and father would never allow this. She probably brainwashed them like she did to Anya. The porcel

Kaiden After so many years, I stepped foot into my pack again. My mind link being set in place again. My men and I have been gone for so long, it felt good and warm to be at the pack again. Years ago, I wouldn’t have thought I would come to miss my kingdom, but after my brother and sister-in-law died, I had to take over, wear the heavy crown, and take care of my niece, who only had me. But due to the border rebellion from the nasty rogues, I had to leave her, too. And the minute I mind linked her that I was back to the pack, I could feel her excitement through the link. But something else caught my attention. As our pack tradition, when the king returned, the guards and maids lined up to welcome him. But that wasn’t what stole my attention. A maid, fallen on the ground, unmoving. The sight of her struck me like a bolt of lightning. Her soft features, the delicate curve of her neck, everything about her tugged at my instincts. My wolf stirred restlessly within me, a primal energy

Celine Shamefully, I ran away from the Alpha’s room like the coward that I was. I couldn’t recover from the look of disgust he gave me when I admitted to being a thief. His piercing gaze burned into my soul, making me feel smaller than ever under his stare. Why did I have to admit to being a slave? Would he have believed me if I had told him the truth about Sheila? My parents didn’t care for me, but why was I still helping them protect Sheila? I wiped away an angry tear that slid from my eye. I never thought my mate, not even the king, could be within these walls. But now, all hopes of finding a mate who would love me and cherish me had been dashed. My mate would rather die than accept me, a thief, as his queen. Approaching my sorry excuse for a room, I passed in front of the maids’ quarters... a huge room that all the maids lived in. They refused to let me live with them, casting me into a storage room infested with rats and insulting me every night I had to pass their room to get

Kaiden “How dare you run away from the pack that has been merciful to you despite what you’ve done?” I growled, my head roaring with anger, as I glared at the pair in front of me. How dare she run away? How dare he, a guard, help her escape? This infuriated me to no end as I watched them nervously shift under my gaze as they realized that they had been caught. “Kai- your highness…” Celine whispered, her gaze falling to the floor. “It’s not what you think-“ The guard pulled her behind him in a protective stance, and my gaze followed their enclosed hands. This caused my wolf to jump around in anger, begging for control so he could tear the little guard apart. “If you want to punish anyone, punish me. I am not sorry for doing this. She deserves so much better treatment than the treatment everyone in this kingdom has been giving her, especially your niece.” The guard all but spat in my face. A monstrous growl that would wake the whole kingdom tore through my lips. “How dare you talk t

CelineI was due any day now. It was crazy how fast my baby grew compared to other wolf pregnancies which usually lasted for longer moons than mine. It was almost miraculous, and I was extremely excited to see my little bundle of joy. And hold him in my hands. “He’s going to have your eyes,” Mika said, but a part of me knew he was going to be a spitting image of his dad, to taunt me. But I would love every bit of him still just as I loved Kaiden. These were the thoughts I had, but my thoughts took a dark turn as one afternoon, days after Neil last came to see us, a black crow perched on the window sill, looking inside. I stiffened, memories of how I associated crows with bad luck when I was younger, and it being more than a coincidence coming back to me.“Go away.” I shooed it, but it returned almost immediately as if trying to prove a point. I picked up a slipper and threw it at the window, but the bird remained there, staring at me.“Ugh, stupid bird.” I cursed as my movements cau

The wound Mirena gave me on my chest ran deep and pulsated angrily. My wolf could barely handle the pain and was doing everything to keep me standing, and I wondered how day four might be if we didn't find Celine soon. “This is crazy,” Damon murmured as he helped me up the stairs to my room, his grip hard on my side, digging into my bandage.“I’ve had worse,” I grunted, though even I didn’t believe my own words. Physically, I haven’t, but the emotional turmoil surpassed this pain by miles.Damon scoffed. "Bullshit. You’re barely standing, Kaiden. You can’t keep doing this."I didn’t respond. There was no point. He wouldn’t understand.Celine was out there. She was alive. That was the only thing that mattered. I would push through every ounce of agony if it meant finding her. If it meant bringing her back.We reached my

Sheila“Your Highness! Did anyone see you come in?” Mirena asked in a hushed tone as I walked into her chambers where she was going to be staying for the next few nights. I ignored her servant girls and turned to her as she shut the door.“Do you have to keep these girls standing here? C can't they have their room?”Mirena glanced at her girls, and let out a soft chuckle. “They knew this was what they were getting into. And besides, they do not seem to be complaining.” Rolling my eyes, I sat on the couch, my legs crossing. “Wel,l whatever. I hope they are trustworthy because I would hate to hurt anyone if news of my plan comes out in the open.”My cold tone caused them to shiver as intended, and I hid a smile as I adjusted in my chair.Mirena shook her head. “None of that, Your Highness. They are more trustworthy than you think.”I brushed off the topic, eager to get what I was here for. “What did you see, Mirena?”Mirena’s smirk faded as she moved toward the small wooden table in t

Chapter 51KaidenMirena converted the roof of my room into a shrine of some sort, and for the past few days, consulted the ancestors in preparation for the ritual. While she did that, the nerves ate away at my mind, and I spent my time pursuing leads that were close to what you would call a wild goose chase. I barely recognized myself anymore, and I barely slept, my mind plagued with thoughts I couldn't dismiss. Was Celine still alive? Would I ever see her again?“You are going to make yourself sick, Kaiden.” Sheila’s concerned eyes met mine and blinked twice, realizing that I had been staring into space for the last ten minutes. I straightened in my chair, took the cup of tea I had been drinking, which was already cold, and drowned what remained of it.Sheila sighed as she took the cup, and walked behind me. “You are so tense, let me.”Her hands dug into my shoulder blades and I stiffened. Despite everything, Sheila was still Sheila. I didn't want her getting too close.“Sheila…”S

Kaiden“Do you trust this? Do you trust Sheila to do something in Celine’s interest for once?” Damon asked as we walked to the throne room, where the witch Sheila wanted to reveal to us was waiting. I didn't like witches. They had too much power, but they knew better than to cross us because one bite from us was lethal and could kill them in hours.ButIi needed this. I had no options, my men had scored the whole kingdom and even nneighboringkingdoms ,and Celine was nowhere to be found, almost as she disappeared into thin air. It worried me to the end. I couldn’t eat, I couldn't sleep… All I wanted to know was if my mate and my pup were safe. If itwasn'tt for Sheila, as weird as that soundedI i may have dropped dead from exhaustion.
