CHAPTER 8: EVERLY IS MY MATE
EVERLY: After Kaelan left, I remained in the library until it was dark. I didn't want to bump into Rose because of the fear that she might pick a fight with me. Honestly I wasn't willing to offend anyone in this pack. Doing laundry was the least task I handled in my former pack. So why should I feel offended because Rose asked me to wash a few of her clothes? Kaelan obviously didn't like it so I had no choice than to dump the task. He was the Supreme Alpha and his word was law. Sigh. I returned to my room and ate dinner alone. Falling asleep on my fine cozy bed came so easily and I slumbered away until the next morning. I opened my eyes and stretched out my hands, feeling very refreshed. I felt more alive this morning than I had felt in years. The soft rays of the sun streamed through the window and it felt like an invitation to give life a chance. Today, I would try to mingle with more of the pack members and see if we can bond. I looked at the wall clock, and realised it was already 8:am. I entered the bathroom, and had a warm bath. After dressing in a simple outfit Kaelan had provided—a soft knit sweater and jeans—I made my way downstairs. The main house was alive with activities. Shifters went about their duties, while exchanging greetings. “Good morning, Everly.” Kaelan’s deep voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned to see him leaning against the library doorway and my heartbeat increased. His lips curved in a warm smile as he gazed at me.. “Good morning,” I replied, trying not to fidget under his gaze. “Come. Breakfast is served,” he said, pulling me to the dining table. The dining hall was a large, welcoming space filled with a long wooden table and several comfortable chairs. The smell of freshly baked bread and sizzling bacon filled the air. My stomach growled, betraying my nerves. Kaelan chuckled. “Sit. Eat. You’ll need your strength for today.” I took a seat beside him, and ignored the curious glances from the pack members around us. A young woman with curly auburn hair approached, carrying a tray of food. “Good morning, Alpha,” she greeted Kaelan with a bow before she turned to me. “Hi, Everly.” “Hi, Ava. Good morning,” I said, relieved by her friendly demeanor. “I made these muffins myself,” she said, setting a small plate in front of me. “Hope you like them.” “Thank you,” I said, touched by the gesture. Kaelan gave her an approving nod. “Ava’s one of our best bakers. She keeps us all well-fed.” Ava beamed at the praise, then excused herself to return to the kitchen. Ava has been nothing but kind to me since I arrived here. As I took a bite of the muffin, the sweet, buttery flavor melted in my mouth. “This is amazing,” I said, glancing at Kaelan. “I told you,” he said with a smirk. I smiled and continued eating. Kaelan didn't eat much, rather he sat there and just watched me eat. By the time I was done, I noticed that a few pack members had gathered. As I tried to figure out what was going on, Kaelan rose to his feet and declared bluntly. “I need your attention, everyone. Everly is my mate. Any disrespect to her is a direct insult to me. Take note, you all.” I was stunned. I hadn't seen that coming. Totally embarrassed, I lowered my gaze as the dining room remained eerily silent. I could feel their eyes on me but Kaelan saved the day when he dismissed everyone. “You're okay?” He asked, searching my face. “I guess.” I replied quietly. “I'm sorry if I embarrassed you. I just didn't want what happened yesterday to repeat itself.” Maria came and cleared the table while Kaelan took my hand and led me away. --- Later, Kaelan insisted on taking me to the training grounds. “I don’t think I’m ready to train yet,” I said as we approached the open field. “You’re not here to train today,” he said. “Just watch what they're doing. Get a feel for how we do things.” The field was alive with movements. Some trained in their human forms while some trained in their wolf forms. It was a mix of discipline and camaraderie that left me in awe. Duncan, Kaelan’s Beta, jogged over to greet us. “Everly,” he said with a grin. “Welcome to the real heart of the pack.” “I’ve been here before. But I feel awed by your activities each time. It’s... impressive,” I admitted, my eyes scanning the activity. “You’ll be out here soon enough,” Duncan said. “Kaelan’s already bragging about your potential.” I shot Kaelan a surprised look. “Bragging?” He shrugged, as if he wasn't bothered. “I believe in you.” Before I could respond, a small group of pack members came to us. Their expressions were curious but kind. “You’re Everly, right?” a young man with sandy blond hair asked. “I’m Daniel. This is Mara and Owen.” “Hi,” I said, feeling a little overwhelmed. “Don’t worry,” Mara said, her dark eyes warm. “We don’t bite. Well, not most of the time.” The joke broke the tension, and I couldn’t help but laugh. “We’re glad you’re here,” Owen added. “The Alpha’s been a lot happier since you arrived.” Heat rushed to my cheeks, as I glanced at Kaelan, who smirked but said nothing.CHAPTER 9: CERTAINLY UNEXPECTED EVERLY:Suddenly, something whooshed past me. I glanced around to see what was going on and before I could react, a large, grey wolf slammed into me, and knocked me off my feet. His move was more playful than aggressive, but the force of it sent me sprawling.“Whoa!” I yelped, scrambling back. “Hey! I’m not—"My words died in my throat as my vision blurred, and my bones cracked loudly. Then I felt a surge of power flood through my bones. No, no, no! I tried frantically to stop myself, but it was too late. I was on all fours, before I made sense of what was going on. This was my second time shifting and I was puzzled cuz I thought I was supposed to have control over my wolf. The grey wolf, now looking slightly sheepish, whined and took a step back.“Everly?” Kaelan’s voice sounded quite… intrigued. Then another wolf, a sleek black female, darted forward, and growled playfully. She was obviously challenging me for a spar. My wolf responded in kin
CHAPTER 10: MEETING SERAPHINA EVERLY:The fire burned softly, and I enjoyed how its warmth made my entire body cozy. I sat next to Kaelan and put my head on his shoulder, while my eyes remained closed. I felt so comfortable leaning on him and I was willing now to give our relationship a chance. He has assured me on several occasions that I was safe with him.I actually liked Kaelan, despite the fact that he looked very intimidating.“What are you thinking about?” He asked suddenly, as if he read my thoughts.“Nothing.” I responded quietly. After a thought, I said, “I'm just wondering how I went from being a homeless werewolf to being here with the Alpha King.”Kaelan chuckled. “It's fate, Everly. The Moon Goddess has already destined it.”I nodded. I think I actually believe him.We chatted over minor issues, and I was really beginning to feel at home when someone made a throaty cough behind us. I followed Kaelan's gaze and saw a beautiful girl standing within a short distance. I've

Haven't you heard about me?”“No, I haven't.’ I said, shaking my head.“Well, I'm here to inform you that I deserve a place beside Alpha Kaelan as his Luna and not some weak creature like you who has nothing to offer.”I felt a flush of embarrassment as I lowered my eyes.“You’re ashamed, aren’t you?” she taunted, stepping closer. “You know deep down you’ll never be enough for him. He was probably bored while I was away and you think you can step into my shoes? How pathetic.”I didn't say a word because I was embarrassed. Kaelan never told me that he had a girlfriend. Seeing that I didn't respond, she continued. “You’re nothing but a placeholder for the
CHAPTER 1: FINDING MY MATE.EVERLY:I’ve always felt invisible in Silver Cross pack—especially with the way my father treated me. He has transferred his hatred for my mother whom he considered cursed to me. My mother was Wolfless and so am I. Or so I thought. Since after my mother's death, I've known nothing but rejection and hatred. My father was the Beta to Alpha Viktor, the Alpha of Silver Cross pack and the pack wasn't doing so well. Since he married Elena, my stepmom, who moved in with her daughter, Isabella, my father's rejection of me has doubled. They made it a duty to make sure I was always unhappy. I had hoped that once I turned 18 years old, I would find my mate and move out of the house.Well, I found my mate and was so elated about it. It was late in the evening and I suddenly felt the puIl of the mate bond. I followed the scent of the mate bond to the Alpha's castle and when I got closer to him, we both could feel the electrical spack between us. Alpha Viktor was sea
CHAPTER 2: REJECTED BY MY MATE.EVERLY:I quickly shifted back and stood watching Isabel as blood seeped out through numerous parts of her body. My father was the first to burst into the room, followed by my stepmom. They gasped in shock when they saw her. “What's the meaning of this?” my father thundered.Isabella was crying pitifully and I knew she was just putting on a show. “She…she attacked me” she stammered, pointing at me. “She spent the night outside and I only came to caution her as my sister. She got angry and attacked me.”“What?.” my father was the first to react.Elana rushed to her side and lifted her to her feet “You worthless bitch!” She barked as she glared at me. “How dare you lay your filthy hands on my daughter?”“You’ve always been a disappointment, Everly” my father said, his voice boiling with rage. He probably mind linked with some guards and ordered for their presence. In a flash, some guards were in my room, dragging me to the dungeon, where all offenders ar
CHAPTER 3: AN ALLEY FOR A HOME.EVERLY:I staggered back with the weight of his hurtful words and false accusation. Tears blurred my vision but I could still see her; the she devil Isabella. My gaze darted to her, as she stood watching the scene unfold with thinly veiled delight.“I can't believe this,” I whispered, with trembling voice. “Someone’s feeding you lies, Alpha. Please, don’t do this.”Viktor sneered. “No one’s feeding me anything, Everly. I see you for what you are—an embarrassment. Isabella has nothing to do with this.”“Of course, she does. You just made it clear by mentioning her name.”When he realised he has fucked up, he gritted his teeth and turned away.I turned to Isabella, my fury boiling over. “You did this, didn’t you?”She tilted her head, her expression mock-innocent. “Me? I’m just looking out for Viktor. He deserves someone who can elevate him, not drag him into mediocrity.”“You lied to him!” I shouted. “You’ve always hated me, but this? This is beyond crue
CHAPTER 4: THE RESCUE.KAELAN:My warriors and I were on a regular duty of patrolling our borders every evening when I caught the scent of blood. The rogues’ foul stench was strong and unmistakable, but there was something else. Something faint yet familiar.“Stay focused and alert,” I ordered my warriors as we followed the trail. As soon as we turned the corner into the alley, the sight before me made my blood boil. CHAPTER: WELCOME HOME EVERLY: As we stepped into Crescent Moon Pack’s territory, my jaw dropped agape. Kaelan's estate was a sight to behold and the sprawling forest seemed endless with beautiful villages nestled in the heart of the land. There were homes woven seamlessly into nature, occupied by vibrant shifters, both young and old. The lush greenery of this pack seemed to take on a life of its own and the air buzzed with life, making me wish I was part of this world. As we approached the central square, I felt a bit uncomfortable as Wolves of all ages stopped what they were doing and gazed at me with curiosity in their eyes. They welcomed their Alpha with honour and respect but I got nothing but scrutiny. I tightened my grip on Kaelan’s arm as their scrutiny made my skin crawl. “You’re safe here,” Kaelan said softly, as my body stiffened beside him. “Safe isn’t the same as welcome,” I muttered, glancing at the wary faces around us. I clung to his side as we entered his esta

CHAPTER 7: DON'T YOU FEEL ANYTHING FOR ME? KAELAN:The days that followed were hectic for me but I made sure I spared some time to check on Everly. She was a cautious person and as much as I tried to build a relationship with her, her walls remained firmly in place. I didn't give up and I knew her walls would eventually crack little by little. One afternoon, as I returned from one of my engagements, I found her sitting on a small stool by the edge of the castle, doing laundry. I moved closer to her and was shocked to see the clothes she was washing belonged to Rose, my Beta's mate and her children..“What are you doing?” I asked. She glanced at me, “I'm doing laundry. Welcome Alpha.”“Who told you to do this?” I was livid. “Where is Rose? And Maria?”Even though Everly has not acknowledged me as her mate, the bond is there and no one has the right to disrespect her. I mind linked Duncan. I need you in the library, I ordered through the mind link.I took Everly's wet hand and pulled
CHAPTER 6: WE'LL FINALLY HAVE A LUNA EVERLY:That night, Kaelan took me to the room he’d prepared for me in the main house. I stopped on the threshold, as I admired the splendor before me. The room was very large and could not be compared with any room I've ever been in. The bed was king-size, and I wondered how I could sleep in that bed alone. The fabric of the sheet looks softer than clouds and I liked how the floor-to-ceiling windows opened onto a private balcony. The room was cozy and warm, and I fell in love with it instantly. “Oh this room is beautiful. It feels like a dream,” I said, standing in the doorway.“You deserve a space where you feel comfortable.” He took my hand gently. “I don't go about bringing random people home.”I found myself stepping closer. “Why are you doing this, Alpha? Why do you care so much?”He hesitated, then focused his gaze on me. “I think the Moon Goddess brought us together for a reason.”I took a deep breath. I could not deny the sincerity in
