"So, let's say a stone is thrown with a velocity of 5ms-1 at an angle of 30° to the horizontal. What would be the time of flight T, maximum height H and range, R. Using (g=10m/s²) ?"
The physics teacher who had been going on and on with the topic Projectile Motion, asked. since it was a theoretical physics class, they had not gone to the lab rather had remained in the classroom to do the learning.
The whole class settled immediately to solve whatever he asked while Yara had her head lain on her desk. Her head felt like it was going to explode anytime soon especially after she had gone clubbing last night.
"0.5s." Seun replied in a matter of seconds.
"Anyone else?" The physics teacher, Mr Korede, asked again, raking his eyes over them in anticipation.
"(2.22)." another random person eagerly replied. A low mumble broke out from the rest of the other classmates in disagreement
"Okay, that's alright. Time's up. Seun, can you tell the class how you arrived at that?"
Seun got up with a confident smile, adjusting his glasses before speaking.
" T=2u sin∅/g which gave me T=2x5x0.5/10=0.5s."
"Good!" Mr Korede exclaimed.
"No way! " Another exclaimed again in jaw dropping astonishment.
"C'mon Galileo! How come I never thought of that?" Maxwell, a short fair guy with button nose and small mouth exclaimed at Seun.
"That's because you've never thought before." Shauna, a random classmates retorted causing the whole class including Mr Korede to burst into laughter.
"Sir I don't understand." someone yelled in frustration after the laughter had subsided. Mr Korede went on to explain further after congratulating Seun who had a big shy smile etched on his face as he took his seat.
After a big round of more exercises, explanation, complaint, disagreement and approval. The class of 45mins was finally over.
"So turn in your last term C.A before school's over. Seun, make sure to bring them to me." he announced.
Seun nodded in agreement. He was Mr Korede's favorite student afterall. With a fire brain and calm exterior. Mr Korede on his part was one of the best teachers, Bluebell had. His patience and tolerance earned him Bluebell's favorite teacher of the year. To him, teaching wasn't just a job but also a vocation to impact knowledge in the younger generation.
But now, seeing Yara peacefully sleeping all throughout his 45mins of teaching, he felt his patience and tolerance were being tempted.
"Miss Williams! " he called out aloud. She fluttered her eyes open at his pretty loud voice. Raising her face up to meet his disappointed stare.
"I don't appreciate you sleeping in my class."
"My bad. I got tired. Seun's answer was incomplete." she replied with an impassive stare at the teacher who quipped his eyebrows is curiosity.
"Care to explain what you mean?"
"Using H=u2 sin²∅/2g, I got, H=5² sin² 30(2x10)=0.31 and R=U² SI 2∅/g=5² sin 60/10=5²x. 8/10=2.0m."
She was quite good in physics so she could comfortably bet her confidence on giving the correct answer.
For a moment, the class was silent. Mr Korede had his jaws drop in awe, Seun stared at her in shock coupled with the rest of the students who still looked astonished.
"Brilliant! " Mr Korede cried with a tinge of pride undertone.
"But how? You were asleep the whole time i was teaching."
She shrugged, "I was tired. It didn't mean i was asleep."
Mr Korede gulped, a feeling of guilt washed through him at his wrong accusation.
"Guess she's a witch after all! " some random girl retorted with a jealous undertone.
"Excuse me bitch! I dare you to say that again."
She shot out at the girl who cowered in fear at the dangerous tone of Yara promising her hell if she dared her guts. The whole class mumbled, getting all excited at her outburst.
"You don't have to use your fist all the time," April's chirpy voice shot back at her, "That's un-lady like."
Yara scoffed, "you know what else is un-lady like?" She asked, pulling her middle finger towards the direction of which April sat, staring at her with a sickly sweet smile plastered on her face like someone just complimented her designers wrist watch.
"You not minding your fucking business."
The whole class went in a frenzy. This of course was going straight into Bluebell's gossip blog with some funny headlines or so. Mr Korede felt the color drain out from his face.
"Silence!" He boomed gradually reinstalling the class to sanity. Turning his attention to Yara, he began,
"Miss Williams, I'm sorry to have jump into conclusions about you sleeping," he said in an apologetic tone to which she gave no reply, nevertheless, he continued.
"You and April should see me right away in my office. Seun, don't forget to send in the C.A."
With that, he left the class with the both aforementioned girls trailing behind him.
•••
"So tell me what that was about? " Mr Korede asked, riveting his full attention to Yara and April sitting on opposite him. Each teacher had a cubic like desk with a computer screen ontop and series of notes and textbook sprawled across the table. His table was arranged though, creating space for his arms to comfortably rest on it.
"I was just trying to tone down things before she shot back at me, it's nothing really.” April shrugged.
Yara rolled her eyes, drawing Mr Korede's attention to her, "here she goes again trying to be the saint."
"Do you have something you want to say Miss Williams?"
"Yes. Alot." Yara said flatly.
He interlocked in fingers, his interest accelerated, "let's hear it.”
"Actually sir," April cut in. " I have to shoot a commercial in the next ten minutes so I need to freshen up and besides, it's fine. Yara was just being Yara."
Yara stared at her in mock disbelief, her lips twitched into a smirk, "well! Look at that. Who knew you knew so much about me?" she asked sacarstically.
"I always did. It's hard not to especially when you have your life so full of shit! " April retorted.
"Not as absurd as you being a two faced bitch though.” the other girl lazily replied.
"Girls! " Mr Korede decided to intervene at this point, sensing the air grow tense around the two girls who glared at each other in silence. Were they thinking up ways to kill themselves discreetly? That was something not even the humming sound from the air conditioned room would have a reply to.
"I think you two really need to talk things out between yourselves, because i don't really get what this is about but I think it's something you two can handle diplomatically. So i'll let you two off the hook today, but!"
He boomed the 'but' so it resounded through the quiet staff room with few teachers minding their business.
"I don't want you two disrupting my class in any way again. Do you understand?" He asked with all seriousness.
"Yes sir, thank you." April smiled at her response. Mr Korede glanced at Yara who just gave a light shrug in reply. He huffed rubbing his hands against his temples.
"You both can go." he said dismissively. The both girls made their outside the staff room which as soon as they got out, April pulled Yara by her wrist to which the former shrugged off coldly, "what's this about?"
"Come with me!" April hissed. A seething anger laced undertone as she tugged her off.
•••
"The girls bathroom? Are you serious right now?" Yara scowled in disgust.
The bathroom was all spick and span. It toilets faced a large-sized mirror. There was a tissue dispenser hung on the wall, an automatic hand sanitizer placed at the front of each toilet stall and a hand dryer. The walls were all painted in white and there was hardly any trace of handprints and disgusting notes on the walls rather, a small notice board which hung beside the door had all written information plastered on it.
April ignored Yara, taking a peek outside before shutting the door behind her.
Yara huffed out aloud, "can you fucking tell me why you brought me to the restroom? "
April spurned around, a cold glare fixed on her face as she titled her lips into a smirk, "to give you my little warning."
Yara arched her brows, "so you're going to beat me up to do that?"
April stared at her in mock humor, bursting into a round of dry laughter, "no dear, I'm not a lowlife brute who beat people up in the restroom like you did with Zaria." she added the last part with a sneer.
Yara scoffed, "oh, i almost forgot what kind of person you are then, a conniving vile two faced bastard!"
A dark glint flashed across April's eyes as she quickly raised her palms above her, stopping midway in the air. Yara twitched her lips into a wide smirk, her eyes unwavering at the sight of April's hands midway across her cheeks.
"Woah. What was the thing you said about lowlife's again? Do your fans even know how much of a scum you are?" She taunted.
April glared at her, taking in a sharp breath as she slowly brought her hands lower, clenching her fist tightly in rage, "you really have no shame. Do you? I've been tolerating you... "
"You've been tolerating me?!" Yara howled, cutting her off, "bitch I've been the one having to put up with your stupid attitude and whatelse? Those smiles you use to mask up what sort of deceitful person you are.”
"You started all this. If you had never tried bullying me all in your sick attempt of friendship and, we wouldn't have had to cross paths." April shot back in anger.
"You make it sound like I'm the only heartless bitch here?" Yara replied tartly. An impassive expression fixed on her face as she stared back at April who pushed her hair backwards.
"Did you forget what you did too? Telling all those lies about me even when you knew they were lies?"
"It was just letting karma hit you hard..." April shrugged in a calm tone, "I never even believed in it but after seeing you break down, I had to have a change of belief."
Yara let out a bitter chuckle, "so that was your way of getting back at me. I had thoughts that we were way past our differences and I trusted you...You. Zaria and that bastard? "
April said nothing, staring at her like she just said the most senseless statement she ever had made. Then she spoke up again,
"Did it hurt so bad to get broken?" She asked, pulling up her uniformed white sleeves to reveal a big scar which was caused from a burn on her wrist.
"Do did you ever think I was going to get past what seemed like minor differences with you each day I looked at this scar from a fucking iron which you coldly inflicted on me?" She yelled out, trying hard to keep her tone wavering tone firm.
"I apologized for that."
"No you didn't. " April shot back, “you laughed to my face, you fucking idiot, and said 'you were sorry, that was a mistake'...it wasn't even close to a sincere apology."
Yara bit the insides of her cheeks, plainly staring at the scar on April's wrist. Memories of the incident vaguely flashed through her mind. The fight. She had fought with April and ended up hurting her with a hot iron. Back then, she laughed in triumph. Feeling satisfied at her actions but afterthought, she had gone to the hospital where April had been admitted, trying to makeup with her.
Dealing with April was like walking on eggshells. That was something yara didn't know. She had thought their fight had been forgotten especially after having what seemed to a friendship bond untill April shot back at her, painfully. And that was the crash of their growing friendship.
"So what now? You want me to get on my knees and do what? You're just some little pathetic bitch?" Yara scowled.
A sick smirk sprawled across April's face, “you don't even get it. Do you?" She let out a mirthless chuckle.
"There's something you really don't know about this April Waje. I'm no longer to girl you could bully so much so, i'll take my chances at getting back at you."
Pulling her feet slowly in menacing gait towards Yara, she leaned in further to her ear, "Going to the juvenile was just the beginning." A promising threat laced undertone as she walked past Yara making sure to bump her shoulders against her before strutting out in satisfaction.
•••
Yara stared behind April's retreating figure, biting back her lips to stop herself from cussing out aloud. One of the bathroom stalls pushed open slowly, she quickly swerved around to see who it was, knowing that April had checked around before pulling her in here.
Her eyebrows furrowed at the sight of the pretty chocolate skinned girl who she had seen this morning with Toby.
What the fuck? Was she eavesdropping or what?
Sarah glanced at her awkwardly, going over to sink to rinse her hands, she stole a quick glance at Yara whose expression was plain.
"I'm sorry I overheard that." She started, big brown eyes bored into hers in profound silence and right now she didn't know if she should continue to speak or just leave. Well, she decided to go along with the latter.
Afterall, it was either now or never.
Okay, not really never but she still was going to have this talk with her. Besides, as Toby did say, she was human too.
"Can i talk you for abit?" She asked hopefully. Please say yes! Please say yes! She inwardly prayed.
"You don't tattle alot right?" Yara asked. Sarah flared her eyes in confusion.
"Nope" she popped the 'p'.
"Good. I hope what you heard here remains in here."
Sarah bit her lips in thought. That meant she wasn't even going to talk to Toby about it. He was her best friend and they told each other secrets. Was this going to be the start of her breaking their BF code which said 'no secrets between us'. April was his ex. Was he going to be that concerned about what on around her. He never spoke about his ex though. She decided to shrug it off. If she didn't say anything, he's never going to know right? Besides,
"Did you have to think so much about keeping this a secret?" Yara cut into her thoughts. An amused smile played strangely on her lips.
Sarah plastered a grin, "I wasn't infact, Never mind i'll keep this between us. Promise?” She stuck her pinky finger out.
Yara folded her arms around her bosom, staring down at Sarah's outstretched fingers in narrowed slits.
"You don't need to do that anyway." Sarah added with an awkward smile, retreating her fingers back, "about what I wanted to say earlier...."
Yara arched her brows, "in the restroom?" She asked swirling her feet around to walk away with a throwaway, "No."
Sarah grinned widely quickly following behind. "Of course not in the restroom...how about in my class. 3B?"
