They continued to stare at each other without moving, but a squawk from the bird behind them startled them both. They instinctively jumped back in opposite directions, only to bounce against the barrier Aurora had created. Once again, they found themselves colliding into each other’s arms, using the other for support.Quickly, they straightened up, neither of them looking at the other. Aurora shakily removed the barrier, and they both moved away from the bird, which remained rooted to the spot, staring at them. When it attempted to fly closer, they took another step back. The bird seemed to study them, unmoving for a moment, as though in disbelief. Then, with a sound that resembled a scoff, it dropped something on the ground. Aurora and Maverick both glanced down to see a piece of paper lying on the forest floor. The bird’s eyes shifted between them before it made the scoffing sound again and flew away without turning back or checking if they would pick up the paper.Aurora and Maveric
Maverick asked again, "You’re not going to see her, right?" Aurora raised a brow at him, questioning his persistence.“I’m just worried,” he admitted as they arrived at the front of Night Pack’s grounds after walking for a while.“No, I’m not going to see her. It might be a trap,” Aurora replied. Maverick opened his mouth to say something but closed it again. There was a limit to how much he could question her. Years ago, he might have pressed her further until his nagging feeling subsided. But time had changed, and so had they.“Can you keep this between us?” Aurora asked. “If Easton hears about it, he’ll definitely go after her. I don’t want him charging in with his temper and falling right into a trap.”Maverick thought about it for a moment before nodding. “Alright, I won’t tell anyone.”“They never learn their lessons, do they?” Aurora muttered, her attention shifting ahead. Maverick followed her gaze and saw Jennie and Tessie standing in front of Zach. The man appeared busy deali
There hadn’t been any sight of her in the morning. The guards had been on alert ever since they had spotted Crystalbell at the edge of the territory," Owen reported as soon as he entered the meeting room.“Is it true that Aurora is out of the territory?” Easton asked as he strode into the room, not bothering to close the door behind him.“Yes,” Zach replied, his eyes fixed on Easton as the latter moved to sit in a chair, his body tense with frustration.“What makes you so sure?” Easton demanded.“Crystalbell sent a letter to her yesterday while we were in the woods,” Maverick explained, his tone steady despite the concern evident in his expression. “She wanted Aurora to meet her outside the territory. Apparently, she has information about why she set the pack on fire.”Easton sprang up from his chair and began pacing.“Of course, she does. She’s the one who set it on fire,” Jared muttered bitterly.“And you knew about this?” Easton snapped, glaring at Maverick. “You were there when she
“You seemed surprised,” Layla said with a smirk.“I never knew about it, none of the pack members had said it and you never said it yourself,” Maverick replied.“Hi, I’m Layla, the assistant witch of the Night pack. I’m a human and witch hybrid,” Layla introduced herself, and Maverick nodded.“Should I just enter?” he asked, glancing at the portal, and Layla shook her head.“I’m trying to make it appear as close as possible to Aurora, so you don’t waste time looking for her,” she answered, and he paused in his actions.“Don’t worry about anything. I can feel Aurora and I know that she isn’t in any sort of danger.”“Then what was all the fuss about? You could have told Easton that when he was blowing up in the room,” Maverick replied emotionlessly, though the relief in his eyes was obvious. Layla felt that the man was just a huge muscular stone with no feelings whenever Aurora wasn’t around.“You know…” Layla trailed off, and Maverick raised his head to look at her. “When Zach and I fir
Maverick walked around, holding the tiny crystals that Layla had given him in his left hand. She had told him to use them to fight against witches in case they were the ones who had held Aurora captive. It was for his own protection before he got one from Aurora. Apparently, it was over Layla’s dead body that she would let him go fight a bunch of witches without something to protect him.He stopped when he was right in front of the pole that she was tied to. There was noise outside, and when he turned, he was able to make out the presence of some men on the other side of the shed.He listened attentively and was able to make out the presence of four men with his heightened sense of hearing. They were walking close or around the shed, but there must have been others around too, given that there was some talking in the far distance, probably toward the main entrance of wherever this place was.He turned to face Aurora and flinched when she suddenly peeled her eyes open. She stared at him
Aurora quickly removed the hand holding his shirt as soon as they were out of the portal.Neither of them said anything to each other; the kiss had made everything awkward all over again.Aurora couldn’t deny the jolting feeling that had run up her spine the moment his lips connected with hers, the feeling that had settled in her heart, and the relief that had swept over her. It was like getting a bit of water after being forced to thirst for a long period of time—it relieved her and also made her want more. She wanted more than just lips placed on another. She wanted to see the fully-fledged pleasure that had peaked at her in all its glory. She didn’t doubt that she would have deepened the kiss if she hadn’t been rendered motionless because of the way he had kept grinding his lips on hers to let the potion enter her mouth. Her lips had kept tingling since that moment, right up until now. Her blood boiled, and her hands trembled as she remembered the bliss that had settled over her.Sh
“Did you have something against my pack members or something?” Maverick asked, clearly noticing the way Aurora placed emphasis on every word she used to describe his pack.Aurora scoffed in disbelief and let out a sarcastic chuckle. She rolled her eyes in irritation mixed with annoyance and took a step back from him.“Did I have something against them?” Aurora asked, and another scoff fell from her lips involuntarily. “Do you even need to ask before you know that?”“You still held a grudge.” It wasn’t a question but a statement, one that happened to be a fact.“I didn’t have anything against the new generation, the kids in your pack and the teenagers, but don’t you think I should hold a huge grudge against everyone else?” She asked, but he didn’t reply.“You seemed to forget that my mom, my stepdad, my stepsister, those pack council members, those old men and women with their cold stares—every single member of your pack,” she answered with indifference. “Didn’t I deserve to have someth
Both of them were angry, neither giving the other the time or opportunity to complete a sentence. Both had so much to say and so little space, and it didn’t help that they both became hotheaded and hot-tempered whenever they had even a brief discussion about their past.“Of course, I didn’t have time to point out the steps you took to make all that possible. As I said, it was none of my damn business, but I must say that you enjoyed the trampling and mockery so much that you were repeating the process all over again with Anabella,” Aurora said.“What? Is that how low you think of your sister?” he muttered.“Can you take the imagination of how low I think of her, lower, a lot lower, even lower? Then you’ll be there. I thought the least of her. What are you going to do about it?” she asked, her lips pulling into a mocking smirk. “And stop calling her my sister. She’s associated with you intimately, and that’s not something a loyal sister would do.”“We weren’t intimate. You should give h
“I have to admit that I love it more with your mark on you,” Layla said. “You look more radiant.”They had the pack’s general kitchen to themselves and were preparing a lot of cookies and cakes, because according to Layla, the true alliance between Moonlight Pack and Night Pack deserved to be celebrated.Stephanie also believed that it would be for the best if they switched the name of the pack to Moonlight Night Pack.“You aren’t actually going to stop this, are you?” Aurora groaned and Layla shook her head.“We were there when you cursed him out, we were there when you admitted your fault and praised him. It is only normal that we are there when you act all gooey.” Stephanie said, wriggling her brows in an over exaggerated manner.Aurora face palmed. “Can’t we just get past this?”“No. We can’t. Your mark is just so beautiful, I wish that I can get something like th—” Sadie started to talk but she stopped when she remembered Ferix and what he had told her some days ago.Somehow, she
“He marked you,” Alec said simply, glancing at the mark on Aurora’s shoulder and she nodded, staring straight into the eyes of her mate’s best friend. She has decided to talk to him so that they can put their differences aside and get along in the near future. She has the brain to figure that both of them are part of Maverick’s life and would always be.He was not going to choose one of them over the other and Aurora didn't want her to do that at all, she would love it even more if Maverick continued to have someone like Alec by his side.“Yes, he did.” Aurora leaned on the rail and turned to look straight into his eyes. They were standing at the balcony that was at Moonlight Pack’s pack house, at Maverick’s place.“You don’t seem to want to argue with me today,”“And you don’t seem to want to discard my head from my body,”“You are leaving Maverick again,” It was supposed to be a question but Alec managed to make it look like it was a statement—like it was a fact.“Over my dead body,
The taste of alcohol was potent on their lips but Aurora loved it even more, it made the kiss even more intoxicating. Maverick's hand slipped around her waist and she wound up her finger in his hair, clutching it in her hand in a dead grip as they explored each other's mouth.Maverick pulled Aurora closer to himself and Aurora pushed herself harder, it seemed as though she couldn't get closer enough to him. There was nothing she wanted more than that and she would continue invading his space till she was satisfied, but at the moment she couldn't feel any satisfaction. She wanted to be closer to him.Lips sucking, tongues rolling and body meshing against each other, Aurora wanted to remain in that position forever. But unfortunately, she needed to breathe, she had forgotten how to do it with his lips on her. So she disconnected their lips. But she still didn't get to breathe perfectly because Maverick attached his lips to her neck, sucking down on the collar bone in a slow tantalizing
“So from what you said, you loved our other dates more,” he said and she snorted once again.“You mean the abnormal dates?” She asked and he glared at her which made her chuckle. “But yes, I do.”“I figured as much. You only complain unendingly about things that you love. So except for the world’s example of picture perfect date.” He said and she raised a brow at him in surprise.“Don’t tell me…”“Yeah. I have another date planned. A date that would fit that setting.”“Wow… you are really something Maverick.” Aurora said with a small laugh and he raised his hand with which she intertwined hers with.“So are we going outside this place?”“No, we aren’t.” He said and started leading her to the eastside of the yard. She had removed her heels and had forced him to get rid of his shoes too, so they could feel the sand seeping through the gap of their feet and it was a very soothing feeling. As they got closer, Aurora’s eyes widened in surprise, it kept getting wider as they advanced closer
In a very dark eerie room that had little to no ray of sunshine, Alpha Saxton sat on the chair in front of his desk, working on something on his laptop when there was a knock on the door.He gave a hum and the door opened, Rees entered the room and sighed when he was standing in front of him.“Are you supposed to be chilling now?”“I definitely know that I am not supposed to be brooding.”“Maverick already knows the Alphas that joined hands against them,” Rees informed and Saxton nodded.“I know that it was only about time before he found out about them and fished them out, that's not necessarily a bad thing.”“You said so now but I don't think that those Alpha thinks that,”“Not my problem.”“Do you want to see them all?”“Why should I? They are not my problem at the moment. They should pay the price for being stupid,”“Understood.”“Did Maverick see to the matter himself?” He asked as he continued typing on his laptop.“No, Aurora was the one they met,”“No wonder they thought they
Maverick and Aurora stood to the side after descending from the podium and watched everything with hawk eyes.Aurora, who was continuously greeted since her speech, had her hand crossed over her chest, calculating, in her head, the right time to go into the woods and set the plans in motion. “Aurora,” Layla said, approaching them with a glass of champagne in hand and a smile on her face. “You look so beautiful tonight.”Her eyes raked over her sleek, fitted, black mini gown. The velvet material that hung to her body was backless and shimmering, the hemline fell just above her knees, a pair of strappy stilettos on her feet and her face that had moderate makeup that accentuated her features before she gave a nod of approval.“Thanks Layla, but I think that you look more gorgeous,” Aurora replied, waving her away which caused her glittering bangle wraps to jingle.Layla was wearing a knee-length silver sequin gown that caught the light and clung to her body, pronouncing all her curves a
The mate awakening ceremony was an outdoor party in Moonlight Pack and it was usually held in the vast field in front of the pack’s hall because of the large number of werewolves that usually attends that occasion. It was the opportunity for mate less wolves from all across the globe to connect and find their soulmate. Those who get their mates among their pack members are extremely lucky and those who know them as soon as they turn eighteen were extremely rare. The decorations were fantastic and chic, the gold lights also gave the whole place an ethereal glow. The moon --bright and beautiful--was up in the sky and a cool breeze brushed across their werewolves’ skins. It was a night of a lot of things. Love, hatred, disgust, pride, money, authority were usually flaunted at this occasion. Some werewolves were happy, with bright shiny eyes at the prospect of finding their mate tonight while some had nervous smiles on their lips and kept checking their appearance every other minute. Some
“I don’t know that I have unknowingly got you a place near my pack where you could relax and come back to anytime,” Ferix heard Aurora’s voice behind her and he turned to raise a brow at her with a small smile, Aurora walked closer to him and sit down beside him and they both stared at the body of water that was in front of them.“It is peaceful and got this therapeutic feeling to it,”“I have to agree with that,” Aurora shrugged.“It has been a while,” Ferix said and Aurora nodded.Since the night that Ferix had confessed his feelings to her, both of them hardly ever saw each other since both Maverick and Aurora had been caught up with inviting their allies for the mate awakening ceremony, they both also had to make sure that the decorations and the event go smoothly, part of the reason was also the fact that he had been actively avoiding her too.He did not know if any of them noticed but while Aurora was helping with the preparation because she was the leader of rogue pack, orderin
Ferix had run into the man he had come to this side of the city for, and the man had delayed him with talks that Ferix had paid absolutely no attention to. He just wanted to get away.Telling Aurora how he felt hadn’t been a good idea, and he was aware of that, but he couldn’t help it.At that moment, with her eyes lightened up and the laugh he knew he had caused, he had just blurted it out. Nothing good was going to come from it, because even though they were not particularly lovers, it didn’t excuse the fact that they were still mates.“The look on your face tells me that you’ve done something stupid,” he heard and raised his head to see Carly standing off to the side, almost blending with the shadows.“I haven’t done anything stupid!” he snapped at her, and she scoffed.“You’ve definitely done something stupid, so tell me what it was that you did.”“I didn’t do anything. So what the fuck are you doing here?” Ferix asked, walking to where he had parked his car, and Carly tailed afte
