*Betrayal*

Elara's POV:

"I, Alpha Harden Edmund of the Scorpio pack, accept Caitlin Graham of the Dawn pack as my Luna. She is my true mate." When those words echoed, I dropped the glass in my hand, drawing everyone's attention in the ballroom. I was stunned, unable to comprehend what I had just heard. My fingers quivered in shock.

Moments earlier, my loving and dotting boyfriend stood by my side on the balcony, professing his love for me and even mentioning he'd give up his position as Alpha of the Scorpio pack. I didn't expect this sudden change of heart when he publicly declared another woman as his true mate.

I had been so excited when I was invited to tag along to the Dawn pack for the bouquet, and thought of it as a way to escape my already cruel life, and probably breathe in fresh air different from the one I'm used to. Caitlin was the daughter of Alpha Nicolas Graham of the Dawn pack and she usually visited our pack house along with her father. Our friendship started after she saved me from getting punished by the Luna of our pack, Harden's mother, but she suddenly changed after she met Harden and found out that we were together. I never expected her to take my boyfriend away from me.

My emotions swirled as I stared at my boyfriend who had nothing but a pathetic look on his face, and his demanding mother who always made sure to show me my place at the pack house, then at every one of the guests who gawked at me like they'd seen a ghost, probably because of the broken glass. And then from Caitlin, and down to the mess I had created on the floor with the red wine. The hem of my off-white flora gown had taken in the stain.

In an instant, my whole world came crashing down, hot tears threatening to drop from my eyes but I held them back. No, I wouldn't cry, and I would never show my weakness to these people, Elara Williams was a strong woman and had always been and will always be strong. I had scaled through the hardest times of my life. After my father's sickness, he was demoted from his position as the beta of the pack. We had nothing to do other than to lean on the Alpha's family for support.

I typically turned into a maid at the pack house so I wouldn't be cast out as a rogue barely a year after my first shift into my werewolf form.

Disorganized by this situation, I immediately ran out of the room, I didn't know where I was going but I knew I needed to breathe, I needed air different from the one in that horror room. As I began to run, the heels of my shoes broke, I guess I wouldn't be needing them anymore. I took the shoes off and cast them out, then I heard my name from him, he was calling.

I wasn't sure if I could face him, I didn't know how I'd react in front of him, he was still the alpha of the pack after all and we had a rule where everyone must respect the Alpha no matter the relationship.

Harden had taken over from his father a few months ago and even with all the pressure from the elders, he promised me the position of his Luna as the love of his life and mate but now he betrayed our love and the only thing I could think of was how to get away from him and fast. I didn't stop in my sprint, my wolf began to speak to me.

"Let me out, Elara." She grunted. She sounded more furious than me, why wouldn't she? Our love has been betrayed. I wasn't in the best position of mind so I instinctively blocked her from taking over. As I continued running in the woods barefooted with my dress taking the dried leaves twines, and branches from the trees pricking my feet which I didn't bother about, my eyes caught something, the moon. I lifted my head to gaze up at our supposed goddess.

She's never been good to me, I have no memory of her goodness. First of all, she took my father away in shame, after all the great things he had done for the pack as the pack's omega and now she let my love get taken away from me.

As Harden caught up, his wolf's force causing me to stumble, he pleaded, "Elara, I can explain!"

"Elara, I can explain!" That was the first thing he said after our stumble. I managed to dust my butt off the ground, I must ignore him if I want to remain sane, I readied myself for another sprint further into the woods but he caught hold of my wrist. He shakes his head slowly with his eyes genuinely begging for time. Time which I couldn't give.

"I'm sorry, Elara, I didn't mean to betray you, please listen to what I have to say."

"Why? So that you can give me lame excuses? I don't want to hear it. Let me go." I replied.

"Don't do this, Elara. You know my parents have always wanted me to find my mate from a sophisticated family, Caitlin and I are the perfect match."

Sophisticated? Then what was I?

"If she's your true mate, Harden, what about us? What about the things we shared?!" I lashed out at him. I pushed my hair from my shoulder, revealing the bite mark he had given me when we were teens, "Does this look like a joke to you? If it does to you, it didn't look like one to me, I cherished it with all my life."

We started dating on my 18th birthday after being so close throughout our teenage years only for him to betray me, and with Caitlin?

"I'm sorry for making you feel this way, Elara. We are adults and we should settle things out. I'm sorry that I cannot marry you, I am drawn by my wolf to my true mate which is Caitlin." Hearing him confess his true feelings for that woman I was sure he'd only just met tonight made me want to go wild at him. I felt like tearing his heart out. My emotions were flying all over the place and it was hard to keep sane.

My eyes turned to his hand holding my wrist, he disgusted me, I peeled his hand away from mine, "Thank you for breaking my heart!" With this, I ran off.

As time went by, I was beginning to lose control over myself, my wolf, Snow was slowly taking over my body. The transformation came so quickly before I could decipher it, and for some reason, this transformation hurt as much as my first time did. I felt my bones break into pieces and then conjoined together again a thousand times. It felt like my wolf was going to tear herself out of me to part ways, the pain was so much that I screamed which turned into a howl, facing the moon, and then I heard something moving between the trees. My wolf became more sensitive, preparing to protect the both of us in case of a rogue before I blacked out.

I woke up in the morning, burdened by yesterday's events. Each passing moment reminded me of the rejection, the pain, and the cruel reminder of Harden and Caitlin's connection. Unconscious in the woods overnight, I dusted myself off the floor, surveying my surroundings. The day was bright; the party had ended, and everyone had left the Graham estate, so I made my way back North, to our pack house.

Upon my return, my mother greeted me with a slap.

"You foolish girl! Where were you all night? We were short of servants." Her words struck me like a lash against my already bruised spirit. She didn't care how I felt, knowing my relationship with Harden.

I could barely reply, holding my face in agony. Her presence added to my misery. I often wondered why she despised me.

"Don't just stand there, foolish girl! Do you want me to hit you again?!" I shook my head quickly.

"Where were you, Elara?" Her scowl cut through me.

"I- I was outside, taking some time alone," I muttered, my voice barely audible, my hands nursing the stinging sensation on my cheek.

"Some time alone, you say? I am happy that Alpha Harden has declared Caitlin as his mate. Did you think you could rise in status? Become the Luna of the pack and get to tell us what to do. You wish." She scoffed, "Caitlin is different from you. She comes from an elite family, unlike you. She is an elegant woman whose presence increased the Alpha's status..." She went on and on, praising Caitlin.

Her words diminished me once more. It was just another instance in a series of her harsh treatment towards me.

I was told that we had to clean in preparation for the ceremony.Among my tasks, cleaning the usually unused West Wing of the mansion was assigned to me. While heading there, I spotted Caitlin and Alpha Harden approaching. I tried to prep talk myself. They were the ones who betrayed me.I shouldn't feel bothered right?.I shook off the feeling and prepared to push through this like everything was normal. "Elara!" I instinctively turned around, with my feet glued to the ground. There she was with Harden, their hands intertwined together with huge smiles plastered on their faces as he listened attentively to what she was saying until they reached where I stood."Hi, Elara." Her face had a smile which I couldn't tell was genuine as she asked me my whereabouts, "Where did you go throughout the night? After the announcement, I searched the whole mansion for yo

*Waiting*Elara's POV:My heart was wounded even though I tried to be strong while snow felt utterly defeated, we had lost the one we were meant to be with. As werewolves, our mates were supposed to know us deeply, understand, and care for us always without wanting anything in return. It's tough feeling knowing that we won't ever experience that kind of love from a destined partner since he chose another over us. I ended up being a wolf without a mate. But I shouldn't be sad about it. It's his loss for choosing Caitlin instead of his real partner just to impress the Dawn Pack.We ran until we could hardly breathe. Finally, we stopped at our pond, a place that brings us peace, and we howled sadly into the night. Snow felt really beaten down and hurt, so she retreated into my mind to heal, while I finally let myself cry a lot. That was the last I heard of her. I had hoped the effects would have lessoned by now since we broke our bond, but I wasn’t that lucky. But again, I shook off the

*Comeback to Me*Elara's POV:"You're awake," his hoarse voice said as he walked toward me. "Why did you stand under the rain? You should have just gone home instead of making yourself sick from the rain." Harden scolded, his slender fingers held my chin, pushing my face to the side as he inspected me. It felt awkward. What if the Luna arrived? She would misunderstand the scene. I slowly stepped back, letting him know I was uncomfortable with this.In self-realization, his hand hung in mid-air for a short while, clenching into a fist before he dropped it by his side. I could tell he was annoyed because his mood instantly changed. He was not the same person who cared if I was drenched in the rain a while ago."Why did you come here, Elara? I thought I already told you that Caitlin is my mate. You should stay away from our lives," he said."I didn't come here by choice. You made me come," I told him.He tittered, "How?""My father.""I never believed that there will come to be a day whe

My aching body felt as though I had been dragged from a deep sea.I scanned the unfamiliar room, meeting the gaze of a striking blonde-haired stranger leaning against the door, cigarette and a bottle of alcohol in hand. He had many beautiful traits: blonde hair, grey eyes, a protruding nose, thin fine lips, a strong jawline, and a huge build of about 6.3 feet. He was more handsome than any man I'd seen. I looked away from him when it felt like I was gawking too much."Where am I? How did I get here?" I asked, disoriented and puzzled by the environment."You're awake? I'll get you something to eat," he replied, tossing the cigarette away and walking to the bedside. He reached out for the wet rag, which I hadn't noticed on my head, took it, dropped it in water, and then left the room for a short while. *Replacement*"You should calm down. Maybe a little training would lighten your mood," he suggested and informed me that the private training room was ready to be used. Jack accompanied me there.I changed into my armor, picking my favorite sword and shield from the rack. After dressing, I threw a sword at Jack, inviting him to a sword match. He gladly accepted.I moved back a bit, setting my sword in front of me, and then, in an instant, rushed at Jack to strike him with my sword. He blocked the attack with his shield."Cool down, man. Do you want to hurt me?" Jack asked, his face still showing shock from almost having his head severed a while ago."Hold your sword properly," I replied, more like a warning."You have to get a hold of yourself, Harden. As the Alpha of the pack, you're not supposed to be seen acting this way, do you want to kill your beta??"I growled at him and then he knew I was more than serious. *Finding Elara*The bond persisted, a tugging sensation resonating in my chest, an unspoken plea for her safety. It was my wolf who refused to sever the connection, an instinctual need to know she was alright."We'll find her soon," Jack affirmed, his eyes scanning the information laid out before us.The pain in my shoulder intensified, an unbearable weight of worry and yearning. One part of me longed to see her, to ensure she was safe while my conscience could only think about Caitlin's feelings. *How Hard Can it Get?*"Did you bring her here??" Arthur asked. Both of them turned silent, staring into each other, and I assumed he was using a mind link, telling him something that he wouldn't want the rest of us to hear. As werewolves, we all could mind-link each other, but mine was gone, along with my wolf."She's not supposed to be at this training center, take her back," he said. Elias looked at me, probably signaling me to be ready for action. I placed my hands together, "Please help me," I pleaded, hoping for a change of heart. I was ready to kneel if that was what he wanted."Elias," He called, and I could sense a hint of annoyance in his voice, but I stood my ground."Please, Alpha. *Have Faith in Arthur*The night settled over the pack lands like a heavy cloak, thick with silence and shadows. Outside, the trees rustled, and a cool breeze slipped through, carrying the faint scent of the forest. But inside the council room, there was a different tension—a sense of danger lurking beneath the surface.Elias entered, his gaze sweeping across the faces of the pack elders who were already seated. The leader of the pack elders sat at the head of the table, his fingers tapping slowly against the polished wood, his expression calm yet watchful.Around him, the others—grim, wary men and women with faces weathered by years of loyalty and fierce battles—whispered among themselves, glancing at Elias as he took his seat. His eyes found Elias’s, and he nodded in greeting. "Glad you could join us, Elias."Elias nodded, his gaze calm but his posture guarded. He was here as Arthur’s stand-in tonight, but it felt different without Arthur’s powerful presence beside him. She hesitated before speaking, her voice softer. “You could at least apologize for nearly killing me last night. Her bruised face and weakened body tugged at something within him, though he quickly forced it back. She had, after all, saved Arthur, and perhaps she deserved some credit for that. But his pride wouldn’t allow him to voice any apology, and he simply narrowed his gaze, his tone unyielding. “Be grateful I let you live. *He's Alive*In the morning, Elara woke up, still feeling discomfort in her chest. She washed her face and stood in front of the mirror, searching her reflection for any visible reaction, maybe even a hint of fur from her wolf—but there was none. She wondered what could be the cause. Last night, she couldn’t sleep, her wolf filling her head with howls, sensing that their mate might be in danger, or probably hurt. She tried reaching out to Arthur several times, but he didn’t respond, so she prayed for his safety. Arthur was strong and powerful, and she had immense faith in him; there was no way he’d lose in a fight. To distract herself while waiting for Arthur, Elara decided to work on the plants. Her mind raced with confusion, anger, and something she didn’t want to admit to herself: guilt. It wasn’t supposed to go this far. She never wanted to see Arthur in this state. All her plans, all her careful manipulation—none of it had involved this. She had wanted to hurt Elara, make her suffer, but Arthur? Her stepbrother? This wasn’t part of the plan. Her mother’s voice echoed in her ears, warning her that the situation was dire. Dark magic was involved, and the pack was panicking. They had no idea how to save him, and if something wasn’t done soon, Arthur wouldn’t make it through the night. There was only one person who might have answers, Caitlin thought.
