Madden
“Can you tell King Madden what talents you possess?” My best friend, Mallard, asks the surrogate candidate sitting across from us. This has been a standard question throughout the entire process, and none of the answers have stood out, to say the least.
“Talents?” She giggles. “You mean like with my tongue?” she says before licking her lips. My eyes widen, but Mallard grins, his hand reaching across the table, but before he can speak, I stand up.
“I’m sorry, but this interview is over,” I say as I begin to walk toward the door to show her out.
“I-I-I’m sorry,” She stammers before she stands in shock for a moment. I can tell by the look of sheer surprise on her face that she didn’t know I meant a non-sexual talent, but seriously? I don’t need a whore to carry my child; I need a respectable woman—one that doesn’t put her blow job skills on display at an interview.
She walks to the door and pauses, turning to face Mallard, “Call me,” She mouths, and he grins as he nods, bursting into laughter before I close the door on the slut.
“Really, Mallard?” I ask, turning to face him.
He chuckles, grabbing his beer off the table and looking at me, “What? She’s hot. Plus,” he pauses before he takes a drink, “She has a talented tongue!”
I roll my eyes but can’t help but chuckle; this day has been exhausting. Not one woman has stood out from the rest to carry my heir. All of these women are supposed to be noble and of excellent lineage, but the higher the breed line, the higher the stupidity level, it seems.
“Why is this so hard?” I sigh, walking back toward the table, and I watch Mallard pull out a handle of whiskey from his bag with two shot glasses. I eye him, but this isn’t unusual for him. Whiskey is his favorite, and today has been stressful.
“Because,” he pauses as he pours me a shot, “You are looking for the perfect woman, and that doesn’t exist,” He says, pouring his own. “You can’t even find a woman you want to marry,” He smirks, handing me my shot glass, “How do you expect to pick someone who your child will share half their DNA with? It’s an impossible task.”
Everything he is saying makes sense, but I need an heir. There has to be at least ONE perfect woman to breed with.
This is just a business arrangement.
“I think you need to choose a virgin,” Mallard says, making me choke on my whiskey. It burns my throat as I sputter, shaking my head.
“You heard what Doctor Bally said,” I say, trying to catch my breath and stop the burning in my throat. “It’s better if she is experienced and has even had a child before.”
Mallard rolls his eyes, “Madden, only one woman you have chosen to interview has had a child, and her husband passed away. She could never show any emotion, and she may get attached to the baby… You don’t want that.”
“The no emotion part is fine,” I sigh, sitting back down. “Like you said, there isn’t a perfect woman for me. There is no reason to pretend this is a relationship. It’s a business arrangement and nothing more,” I say, grabbing the whiskey bottle and pouring myself one more—it burns so good.
“No, you said there isn’t a perfect woman for you,” he chuckles, “I didn’t. You want to have sex multiple times with a corpse?” He asks, pouring himself another shot.
His question surprises me, and I quickly shake my head, “NO! What the hell does that mean?!”
“Mechanical sex is like no sex at all,” He smiles, “And that’s what no emotion will get you.”
“Well, an experienced woman wouldn’t be mechanical,” I smirk, and he shakes his head.
“No, but is that really what you want? Do you want some whore to have your baby? The next heir to this kingdom?” His eyebrows raise. “Lineage or not, that is not the type of maternal bloodline you want for your child,” He says, tapping his finger on the table. “We both heard what Doctor Bally said: You may have to have sex with this woman multiple times to even get her pregnant. Don’t you want someone you can mold and teach? Someone pure?”
I stare at him momentarily, realizing he is right, “You’re right, but where do we find a woman like that?” I ask, taking my second shot.
He grins, reaches back into his bag, and pulls out a green folder, “From this pile,” He says, passing it to me.
I take the green folder from his hand and open it, looking at the stack of papers inside. I immediately recognize some of these women and quickly shake my head, “These are all the women I said I wouldn’t even meet,” I say, my eyes meeting his. “I told you to call them all and tell them I wasn’t interested.”
Mallard laughs, shaking his head, “Well, I didn’t. They are all waiting for a call to come in. I figured the ones you picked, you wouldn’t like,” He laughs with a knowing smile.
“Oh really?” And you know what I like?” I smirk. “Well, what I need?” I question.
Mallard nods, leaning back into his chair, “You are a great King, Madden, but when it comes to women, you have no idea what you truly want. We have been best friends since we were five years old. Your conquests have been my second sloppies, and let me tell you, none of them are good wife material or surrogate material.” He grins, “Just look at our last interview.”
My eyebrows raise, but I can’t argue—Ms. Talented tongue proves his point.
“Fine, call them, but if you think you know what’s best for me, you pick the interviews.”
Mallard’s lips curl in a giant smile, “I pick?” he asks.
“You pick,” I repeat myself. “I am done trying to find the perfect woman,” I say as I shrug. Mallard nods in agreement, and I shake my head before standing, “Just don’t let me regret this,” I tease, and he chuckles before I stand. “Well, I better get going,” I say, looking at my watch. “I have a meeting with my father, but I can’t wait to see your picks tomorrow.”
He grins sheepishly, “Oh, trust me, Madden, these girls will be anything but your usual.”
I laugh as I walk out of the room, “I know, that’s what scares me.” I say as I reach the door’s threshold. I can hear Mallard laugh behind me as I head for my father’s study, but maybe he is right-- maybe I am just bad at picking women.
Maybe he can find the perfect woman for me after all…. Or maybe… he’s full of shit.
I guess we will find out tomorrow.
AnnabelleI sigh as I wash the dishes, watching out the window as I wonder when the evil woman will return. After dinner last night, she made me scrub the main living area marble with a sponge—as if pulling my hair, threatening us, and humiliating me wasn’t enough; she just had to make sure I knew just how much I NEED her. No, how much WE need her. However, she’s right. No one else would allow Rae to stay for free, with just me as a live-in maid. I know that, but I also have hope that King Madden will choose me, and we will be able to get away from this evil woman and her vile husband. After loading the last dish into the dishwasher, I carefully shut it, only to be startled by the hot wisp of breath on my neck. I jump back, and he laughs behind me, grabbing my hips with his hands, “Did I scare you?” He whispers into my ear, making my skin crawl.I shake my head, biting my tongue before I speak, “A little, Mr. Lynch,” I confess as I grab his hands, pulling them off my hips before movin
Madden“And you are willing to commit to living here until after the baby is born?” Mallard asks the third candidate he has chosen from the green file folder. I watch as she smiles brightly, but I am not impressed. She doesn’t hold any qualities I am interested in, and I had already put her in the no pile for a reason…. Just like the others.“Yes, I have already spoken to my family,” she beams. “We have all agreed that you have the best medical staff here, and not only would it be safer for me but for the future heir of the kingdom,” she says, pulling her hair to the right side of her shoulder as her eyes meet mine.Mallard nods, tapping his pen lightly against the candidate score paper as he thinks over her answer, making me smirk.Ever since I gave him the responsibility of choosing, he has become very serious about every girl who has walked through these doors to interview…. serious is something Mallard rarely is, and I must say, I am impressed. “And Ms. Cultry, have you ever had
“How long do I have again?” I ask Rae before I gulp, trying to avoid looking in the full-length mirror that stands in the corner of the room. I am wearing one of the many nice dresses that Mrs. Lynch owns, but as I touch the blue lace, my nerves cringe throughout my entire body.I thought getting the interview would be the hard part, but now I realize I have to crush it. I’ll have to stay true to the person written on that application; that may be more challenging than I initially thought. While most of what I wrote is fake, I tried to stay true to who I am, but I am not a Noble-- I am not sure I can pull them off the etiquette one would possess.“You’ll have till dinner, Belle,” Rae reassures me. “That’s way more time than you need.” She says with glassy eyes as she scans me. “You look absolutely stunning! King Madden will definitely choose you,” she says, finally placing her hand on my shoulder and urging me to face the mirror. I slowly turn around to see myself as a proper Noble f
MaddenAs Mallard and I stand, peering over Miss Mason, I am not sure if I should cradle her in my arms or splash water on her face; how did she pass out like that?“What the hell?” Mallard gasps beside me. I nod slowly in shock but finally come to my senses, allowing my feet to move. I quickly bend down and gently pick up the woman with the golden-brown locks in my arms. I look around the room, deciding to place her on a sofa lounge chair in the corner as Mallard panics beside me, “Do we call the doctor Madden? Do you think she’s ill?” he asks, his eyes wide.“Yes, call the doctor,” I say as I gently move a piece of hair from her cheek. Mallard nods in a panic and quickly disappears into the hallway, but I hear him shouting to the guards about how Ms. Mason has fainted, and the doctor must come right away.I bet he’ll never ask me about taking on more responsibility again.“K-k-k-ing Madden,” Ms. Mason stutters beside me, and my eyes dart back to her. “I’m so sorry,” she stammers, qu
AnnabelleI breathe deeply in- thank the lords he did not notice my shoes, but now I am worried about so much more.My heart is racing as I follow Dr. Bally to the medical quarters: I lied-- I do have somewhere I need to be, but how could I say no? What will happen when I am not home on time? Will Mrs. Lynch go after Rae? I know I’ll be in trouble, but this is my only chance!I can't believe I embarrassed myself in front of the king like that, and yet, he still chose me! I think that if I had told him I had to leave, I would have ruined everything.“Don’t be nervous, Annabelle,” Dr. Bally’s sweet voice snaps me out of my thoughts as we reach a door. “I know King Madden can be intimidating, but he chose you,” she smiles, opening the door and waving me in. “All we need to do is a few tests and then we can move forward.”I nod, pushing my shaky voice aside, “Thank you,” I say smiling. “And thank you for calming me down after I fainted,” I say, feeling my cheeks heat with a little embarra
AnnabelleI haven’t seen Kira this happy since she was offered a job to work at the castle. She is absolutely ecstatic about whatever happened, and I can't wait to hear about it.“So,” she smiles, pulling onto the road towards my house, “Today I was offered a live-in position at the castle!” she beams. My mouth opens wide in surprise, and she nods, “Yes!!! I know it’s crazy. It’s a very hard position to get, but somehow, I was promoted and that’s not all!”“That’s amazing, Kira!” I begin, but she cuts me off, her excitement biting my words short.“I know, Belle and the best part is,” she pauses as she slams on her brakes, pulling the car to the side of the road. “There is privacy!” she exclaims. I stare at her very confused, and she giggles, grabbing my hands, “Belle! Rae can move into my quarters! She can stay hidden there while you live in the castle! You can get her away from Mrs. Lynch and you can still see her!”Her words don’t quite register, but I feel faint again as they do,
Madden“I’ll see you tomorrow,” Mallard says as he yawns. “I’m honestly beat.” He says as he stands up stretching his arms, but I only smirk.“Let me guess,” I grin. “Ms. Talented Tongue is waiting on you?”“Well,” he smirks, shrugging. “You didn’t want her, so I will put her talents to good use.” I laugh, shaking my head as Mallard walks out of the room. Mallard is my best friend, but more like a brother. We have always been each other’s wingmen, so I am not surprised he chose his top faves from my ‘no’ pile.I take a sip from my glass, glancing at the clock- Dr. Bally’s tests should be over soon and I will know if Annabelle will be able to be my surrogate. I close my eyes as I picture her in my mind. Her brown golden locks surrounding her angelic face, her pink lush lips and her soft voice… I want her and oh, so badly.I thought Mallard was crazy when he brought up the idea of a virgin being my surrogate but the more I picture Annabelle’s untouched body in my mind, the harder I get
AnnabelleMy heart is racing as Rae and I stick the ally ways. I am trying to figure out where we can go, that’s safe but nothing is coming to mind.I am trying to panic, but it’s freezing outside, and Rae is already weak and sick, “Where are we going, Belle?” Rae says, softly tugging on my arm.“I’m not sure,” I answer honestly. “Kira lives too far, but we need to be close by where we can catch her before she reaches the Lynch’s to pick us up.”“Pick us up?”I gasp when I realize I haven’t told Rae what had happened! She has no idea I was chosen to be King Madden’s surrogate or that she would be safe from that evil home in the castle with Kira. I have been in flight mode ever since I hit Mr. Lynch with the glass—I haven’t explained anything!“Belle?” she asks again, and I quickly spin around.“He chose me, Rae,” I say smiling. “And you are going to stay with Kira at the castle!” I beam. “We are going to get away from them Fin-“I begin, but now tears well in my eyes as I realize what
AnabelleIt’s only been minutes, but it feels like hours when Kira returns the car. My entire body is shaking, and my face is red and puffy from crying. Kira and I decided I couldn’t go inside with Rae. I needed to keep my cover, but it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.“Well,” I ask, my voice shaky and weak. “Is she okay? Did Dr. Bally help?”“She did help, Annabelle,” Kira sighs and she climbs into the car, hugging me. “Rae is okay…. She is in serious condition, but okay. Dr. Bally knew right away when she saw her what was wrong,” she sighs, her eyes meeting mine. “But unlike the others, she gave her some medicine for the pain.”I let my tears fall as I hug Kira tightly, “At least she helped,” I sniffle. “No one else did.”Kira sighs, “I know… for now, it’s touch and go, but Dr. Bally says she may be able to help Rae if she improves… she may be able to give her medicine to hide her condition and help her live a semi-normal life,” she pauses, her voice breaking, “Until she
MaddenI gasp, looking into the corner of the room where Sophie sits with her arms crossed, “We had plans. Why are you with so many skanks?” she asks, glaring daggers into the three women.“Come on, Sophie, we may have had plans but when I didn’t show did you really need to come to my room?” I gasp, putting on my clothing.“You know, King Madden, she can join us if she wants?” One of my father’s presents grins as she eyes Sophie, but now I am both embarrassed and disgusted.“GROSS! That’s my brother!” Sophie gasps, her gagging loud and forceful.“Ohhh…” the present begins, but I am no longer interested.“OUT! All three of you!” I growl. The three women gasp as they look at one another but they pick up their lingerie pieces and head for the door, slamming it shut as they leave.“Really, Madden?” Sophie rolls her eyes. “Three? I mean, the gossip around the castle is that you’re a man whore but three?” She asks again, her tone both disgusted and in shock.“To be fair, Father arranged the
