Jaselyn's POV
Since our little moment in the kitchen, I have to admit I've been looking forward to spending more time with Rion.
The doctor has finally confirmed that I'm healthy and strong enough to go back to my routine life so I'm no longer restricted to my room like a prisoner.
Today is the day that Rion and I finally appear before Alpha Xyne. I feel really nervous because not only is he the Alpha of this Pack but he's Rion's father and by extension, my father in-law. And yes, I definitely feel the pressure to impress.
I haven't gotten close enough with Rion's birth family, at least not as much as I would like to. Luna Daryna and I have a cordial relationship, we chat casually every now and then but there's still an air of formality.
Not because she's the Luna of the Pack but because she's always busy, handling a lot of things so there's barely any chance to see her.
Larose is still keeping her distance, she only sends a shor
Jaselyn's POVLuna Daryna passed Rion a new pair of gloves as he moved towards Alpha Xyne.“Dear, this is Rion, our long lost son.” Luna Daryna introduced.Rion stood by Alpha Xyne's bedside and I saw the older man's eyes blink as if in disbelief before widening in surprise. A heartwarming smile followed next.“It….. It really is you. My son…..” Alpha Xyne rasped, slowly reaching out a trembling hand to touch Rion.Rion seemed to hesitate for a bit but finally reached out and took the older man's hand, gently squeezing it in reassurance.“You shouldn't stress yourself, I'm right here.” Rion said and I saw Luna Daryna's eyes fill with tears.“Bless you, child. You've made…. this old man very happy.” Alpha Xyne said, voice filled with emotion.“For so many years have I lived with the pain of not being able to protect you, of failing you as a pa
Larose’s POVUnwanted. A substitute. Second best. An afterthought. That's how I've felt my entire life. Why, you might ask? Well, because I was born 2 minutes too late.No one knows how much I've suffered, how neglected I've felt this whole time.I despise him.I hate him so much that the mere sight of him makes me sick. I absolutely abhor the fact that we share the same DNA. He shouldn't be a part of this family, he shouldn't exist at all.RionThe brother that has haunted me all my life despite not being physically present or having a name. Actually, he did have a name.Until we met him in person, mother called him Aeron. It was the name she had intended to give him before he got lost.Being born a girl to an Alpha father can be quite unfortunate but being born as a female twin to a missing future heir is far worse.I felt practically invisible. Until I grew up to a knowledgeable age, before we knew h
Larose's POV I thought things would be different once I met my mate and got married but once again, I turned out to be nothing but an afterthought.I met Nathan at my high school graduation, he had come with a friend whose sister was also graduating.I could have never expected to meet my mate on that day but it was love at first sight. Maybe.Or it was just wishful thinking, unrealistic expectations. I thought I had finally met the one who would treasure me and love me unconditionally, put me above all else.I saw the red flags, I'm not dumb, but I chose to ignore them simply because he was sweet. He was a manipulator. He quickly realized I had self esteem issues and a nasty habit of trying to please so he focused on my weakness and love bombed me, telling me everything I wanted to hear.I somehow deluded myself into believing all of it was true. I told myself that he was my mate and the moon goddess had paired us for a reason. It was nothing but a flimsy excuse, a deluded defense f
Larose's POVHe went on to say how the compliments and promises were all lies and he didn't reject me simply because I was so pitiful. He reminded me that I would never be anyone's favorite or first choice. I would continue to live my life as an extra, a last resort that people only considered because they couldn't get what they wanted. He went further and said that if I left him, I would be alone forever because not only was I undesirable, I was also pregnant with his child and no one would want someone like that.I should have resisted, fought back, slapped him, screamed at him, said fuck you and divorced his ass but instead I believed it because deep down I had already created this inferiority complex, he only said what I had been bottling this whole time, displaying my fears before my very eyes. I was speechless and scared. So very terrified. I didn't…want to be alone. Not anymore. I wanted to have something, someone, even if it was a horrible, narcissistic, lying, cheating basta
Jaselyn's POVLarose eyed me intently before releasing an exaggerated sigh.“You want to go now?”“Yes, if you're not too busy.” I replied with a forced smile.Rion who was standing behind me opened up our bond.A flurry of warmth engulfed me as he spoke through our mind link.‘What are you doing?’‘Just trust me and play along.’He nodded and closed our bond and the loss of that familiar warmth almost made me frown.“Yeah, we haven't had a chance to explore the Pack yet. This is my homeland after all, it's only fair that I get to see it properly.” Rion joined in, standing beside me.“I guess I can't say no to the future Alpha.” Larose said with a taut smile and I wasn't sure if she was being sarcastic.“Let me change into something more suitable.” She said and left, giving me a chance to speak to Rion alone.&l
Jaselyn's POV“How may I help you?” He asked but his eyes still remained fixed on Larose who visibly shrinked from the attention.“Who might you be? I've never seen you in this Pack before and this house is supposed to belong to Mr and Mrs Windsommer.” Larose interrogated. He was about to speak when the door opened wider and a brown haired but beautiful middle aged woman walked out.“Who do we have at the door?” She directed the question at the redhead as she turned her gaze to us and her face lit up with both joy and recognition.“Rion dear, you're here.” She beamed and rushed over to where he stood, hugging him tightly.“Mum, I'm glad to see you.” Rion breathed, hugging back and resting his head on her shoulder. I've never met Rion's adoptive parents but from what I'm seeing, it fills me with joy to see that he seems to have a very close relationship with them. Now I
Jaselyn's POV“It's Larose.” Larose muttered.“That's a beautiful name, you're just as pretty as a rose. I understand that Rion becoming a part of your family is just as strange to you as it is to him.But I promise it's a lucky thing because Rion is the sweetest and most caring person you'll ever meet. He's reliable and he goes all out for the people he cares about. He'll be a wonderful brother to you just like he was to my daughter, Melan when she was still alive.” Mrs Windsommer entreated and Larose stood up instantly.“Excuse me but I have to leave right now, I'm sorry.” She said hurriedly.“So soon? The refreshments aren't even here yet.”“It's fine, I'll pass. Thank you for the courtesy, but I must go.” She said offishly and marched to the door.As soon as she grabbed the door handle, thunder rumbled and lightning struck, startling all of
Jaselyn's POV “You're back.” Was what escaped my lips instead.“It's not like I want to be here. The car refused to start and the driver couldn't do anything in this storm. He'll go look for a mechanic after the storm is over.” She grumbled, walking further into the living room.“You poor thing, you're drenched.” Mrs Windsommer empathized and stood up, leaving to probably go get some towels.Larose took out her phone but it was also wet. She tried to switch it on but the blank screen remained.“Stupid thing.” She cursed under her breath, shaking it and trying to get it to work.“It seems like your phone is damaged. Did it fall or something? It's soaked.” I inquired.“It fell into a puddle when I was trying to rush back here.” She confessed.“Is the call important? You can use my phone instead.” I offered and she scoffed.“I didn't ask for your help, it's fine.”“Cut the crap, Larose. I know you were rushing back because of Carol but now you're stuck here due to the storm. Unfortunate
