*Lexie’s POV*

As I watch mom sleep soundly, it feels as if a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and for the first time in days, I can allow myself to breathe. I don’t allow myself to stay away from her, because I don’t want to miss the moments she wakes up.

Doctor Patel said she could take several days to fully recover; most of her strength will come faster, but she will feel like she has run a marathon each time. The days she gets to sleep and rest, are going to help her fully recover.

"Lexie," my mother murmurs, her voice weak but her eyes bright with life as they flutter open.

“Mom, how are you feeling? You should rest more,” I quickly say as I stand up to get her some water. She drinks from the metal straw and swallows slowly.

"I'm feeling so much better," she yawns and then gives me and Noland a smile. “I just get tired quickly, just woke up and I want to sleep more.”

"I am so happy to hear that," I say, gripping her hand tightly, my eyes filling with joy. "You had u

Is she doing better?""Much better, thank you," I respond, relief flooding through me at the thought of my mother's improving health. "She's stable now and starting to recover.""That's great news, Lexie." Despite the tension between us, I can see the genuine happiness in Natasha's eyes – a testament to the depth of our friendship."Listen, Tasha… I know things were a bit tense when you came back, and I just want to clarify things for you," I say, hoping to bridge the gap that has formed between us.Natasha nods, seemingly lost for words, and the tension in the room is palpable. A part of me wants to retreat and avoid the confrontation, but I know that won't solve anything. I take a deep breath, preparing myself for the difficult conversation ahead.

"I know you're going through a lot right now, but I'm here if you need anything.""Thanks, Carol," I reply, gripping the cold metal key tightly in an attempt to ground myself. I feel the weight of guilt bearing down on me, like a lead blanket smothering my chest. This was all my fault; I gave in to temptation and let my desire for Noland consume me, betraying my best friend Natasha in the process.I push open the door to the modest room, its beige walls and generic floral prints offering little comfort. I can feel the tears threatening to spill over, and I take a deep breath, trying to keep them at bay."Lexie, are you sure you don't want me to stay?" Carol asks hesitantly, hovering in the doorway. She doesn’t talk much, but I can see she cares."Please, just leave me alone," I choke out, barely holding back my tears. "But thank you, really."She nods and slow

My vision blurs, and I have to grip the wall for support."Miss Montgomery?" A kind-faced nurse approaches me with concern etched on her face. "You don't look so good.""J-just a little dizzy," I stutter, trying to steady myself. My legs feel like jelly beneath me."Here, sit down." The nurse guides me to a nearby chair, her warm hand on my shoulder providing some comfort. "I can check your vitals if you'd like. Have you been eating? Drinking enough water?"I nod weakly, but my mind races. Sure, I've been stressed, but this feels different – more intense. The nurse raises an eyebrow, clearly not convinced by my response.
