Harper
I opened my eyes with a startle as I blinked a couple of times trying to familiarize myself with my surroundings. I reached for my head with my hand as I groaned. A split headache forming. My neck was stiff and sore, I had to twist it a couple of times.
I just had the worst nightmare.
Still in my half sleep mode. I yawned as I tried to get up from the chair. I really needed to stop sleeping on the chair after studying.
“Careful,”
I panicked as I looked to see my feet and waist chained to the chair. It took a few minutes to understand that my hands and mouth were free. I searched for the source of the voice. I stared at him for a long time as everything came crashing down.
JamesI was pacing back and forth in a cottage four buildings away from my house. I was waiting for proof that Harper was still alive. They killed Faith. I paused and let that thought sink in again. Faith was family. I watched her grow up with Harper. I am devastated and I can’t imagine what Harper is going through. I didn’t know what else to think. Harper could be next.It was clear they wanted to send a message to me and they knew I would know about the body. They made sure of it. They dumped her. Faith. They left her close to town near the bus station. I clenched my fist and almost punched the wall and stopped before impact. I took heavy breaths and tried to calm a raging storm. It’s people like them who make me wish for death rather than jail. Jail was way way too nice for them. The phone pinged. I stared at i
Nick“Why won’t you wake up, Kiki,” I sighed as I fixed her curls and ran my palm on her face. I leaned closer and kissed her softly on her lips. “You have no idea how much I regret leaving you only to be back to see you like this. I regret a lot of things,” I longingly looked at her.I wanted to shake her. Scream ‘wake up’ to her.“I love you so much,” I confessed as I slumped to my seat and grabbed her unresponsive hand. “I wish things were different. I always wonder if my father hadn’t…” I circled my thumb on her hand and I swear I must have felt her move but again I thought it to be my imagination.A projection.“I bet we would be married if things
Razor The plan worked. It worked better than I could have managed until the part where Charles said he was going to kill Kioni. I tried to keep my face neutral as I looked at James and Nick. Nick looked unhinged. “Father,” Nick clenched his fists as he glared at his father gnashing his teeth. “Ah, Nick.” Charles chuckled, “My son.” Charlee slowly strode to his son. “What are you talking about?” James looked between father and son, “Leave Kioni out of this. Where is my sister?” “Shut up,” Both father and son spoke to James before they stared back at each other. “You are such a disappointment,” Charles snarled, “How could you Nicholas? How could you kill Nelson?” Charles’ voice cracked, “He was you
Nigel“Are you going to arrest me? Am I an accomplice? He ran his hand on his shaky hand on his face, “Please say something?” He was panicking as he looked at me.”Conrad,” I sighed, “Sit down.” I pointed at the chair.“You - Y-you are arresting me,” his eyes bugged out, “I didn’t,” he shook his head, “I didn’t know he would do that. I know I should have come sooner but I was scared. I went to see Nick and he - he said- ,” he looked down, “You don’t understand. I wanted to say something.” he got up.“I need you to take a deep breathe,”He went to have a seat, “Am I under arrest?” he began to tap both his feet.
Morgan The information I wanted did come fifty-five minutes later. I just made him over a million rand richer for the information and it was worth every dime. Nick was the one who owned the Turner mansion. That’s where he was frequenting in the dark of the night almost daily for the past week. I really should have looked more into the mansion when James mentioned it to me. If I wasn't angry at him I would have known about this a long time ago. I walked out of my office and called Sam. He was still lingering around in the house as usual. It also could be because I had dismissed him earlier and he was worried that I might actually give him the boot for real this time. I gave him a task to get four men ready. There was no better time than the present to go and see what Nick was up to. I went to my safe to retrieve my gun. I wasn’t
JamesI was pretty much shocked at everything that had happened. Charles was more than fine and Morgan was right about his sickness being a public stunt after Lara showed us the photo. She died trying to uncover something that was bigger than her. How many people had to die at the hands of father and son?“You need to let me go.”“Shut up,” Tanaka growled looking at me.“You don’t have to listen to him. I can help you. All you have to do is let me go. Stop this nonsense.”“Nonsense?” he walked closer to where I was tied, “My brother just died. My little brother is dead.” he towered in front of me.“How many more are going to die if
Nick I don’t understand how everything went to hell so quickly. I had everything at the snap of my fingers. The power of running a multi-billionaire company. I should have killed my father when I had the chance. He had no right to walk on this earth. He was a calculating and cold man. I underestimated his capability to turn things in his favor. I wasn’t expecting anything less from my father now that we have this major fallout. His betrayal was something I should have expected since I did the same to him but I really thought I was better. I wanted to crush him and let him be at my mercy but he was always ahead. I made a mistake showing my hand when I confessed about Nelson because now he was coming at me with everything he has. He was winning too. I really hate losing. I was cornere
NigelShe just dropped a bombshell and wasn’t subtle about it. Her crooked grin grew wider but I chose to ignore her.“Get her out of here,” I told the closest officer before I walked to my car.I was at the precinct quicker than I expected and the mayor and chief were in the office. I wasn’t in the mood for pleasantries. I haven’t had a good night's sleep and my shift was meant to be over 12 hour ago. I was cranky.“I’m not taking the job.”“Nigel,” the chief began, “How did you…?”“A reporter ambushed me,” I placed my hands on my hips.“Reporter, what re
KioniTrue happiness is what I felt. We were sitting having breakfast before the guys left the table, one after the other. It was all so weird. I looked around the table and everyone seemed to be oblivious. I wanted to go check what was happening outside, but the girls stopped me and began having a conversation about what we had for our dinner last night.“I should get the recipe and make this for Wayne.”“I’m not a skilled cook, but I loved the sauce.” Dani added.“That meat was so tender.” Gaby smiled.“Mhh, it was melting in my mouth.” Faith chided.“Faith ate for two.” Harper laughed&ldq
HarperA few months later,I had made some progress and was ready for this holiday. Tomorrow is going to be a big day. I looked at my suitcases and gleefully smiled.“Harper!”“Coming,” I shouted. I ran down the stairs. “What?” I scoffed.Sam has been my bodyguard. This was not by choice. It was annoying. I preferred the other guard, though I don’t remember his name. He never talked much. Unlike Sam, who takes every chance to speak.“You have a visitor,” he said. “Make it quick. We have to leave soon. I’m not getting in trouble because of you.”“
AdamWith my injured leg and James’ injured shoulder, we almost struggled to keep Harper steady. Her strength was almost impossible to rear.“Thank you.” James said with a sigh.“Don’t mention it.”“It’s over.”“Yeah, it is,” I said, looking at the car where Nick was.“I should go with her to the hospital.”“I’m right behind you.” I nodded.James and my sister left with Harper in the same ambulance. Sebastian, Morgan and Gaby had also gone ahead. We were all being taken to Dawson Hospital
SebastianLesson learnt. Nick was just as canny as his father. He kept surprising me. He had an army. Over twenty men, I'm sure. He knew we were coming. He was prepared. I didn’t do enough to catch him. I should have followed the money theory harder. If I was aware of how vigorous he was, things would have been different. We wouldn’t be in this situation. Nick was worse than his father.“You two stay here. Help is almost here. I have to get in there.”“Don’t get killed,” Adam said.“Be careful,” Nigel said.I gave them both a nod and moved. I was a little rusty, but I prayed I could manage. I ran inside, dodging all the bullets. Before I got in, I saw him ducking his head. Nigel had my back.
NickHiring people to take Kioni to the mansion was a plan in the works for a long time. All the months of planning and watching from afar were necessary. I was going to take Kioni either way. She belonged to me. They all underestimated me. Underestimating the love I felt for her. She was mine, and I was going to make it crystal clear.Everything was set. I was prepared for a fight. One of two things was going to happen. Kioni was going to come to me or I was going to go take her. No army of guards was going to stop me because I had an army of my own. An army I spent a lot of money on and they were the best.Charles taught me one thing that stuck with me. Being resourceful and passionate enough to grasp the moment. My moment was now staring at me. They really made it easy for me. We were going to get married. She looked stunning in that
HarperThey always sideline me. As much as they were, I was involved in this as well. I would be devastated if something happened to Kioni or Gaby. I was actually devastated. That’s why when they were leaving, I followed them.I jumped into Morgan’s car with the bodyguard. He didn’t even know his boss had left with the others when I told him to drive. We were not really seeing eye to eye because the drive started off in an argument.“You know you are going to get me in trouble,” he eyed me with the corner of his eye.“I don’t care. Just drive.” I yelled.“I don’t even know where they went.” he yelled back.“They must have driven pa
KioniMy head hung low from a chair. I opened my eyes and looked around. My hands were chained to a chair. I sat straight and looked around.“Gaby!” I shouted. She was lying on the floor. “Gaby. Wake up.”“You are awake,” Nick emerged from behind me. “How do I look?”“What are you doing?” I asked him, “What did you do to her?”“Come on, Kiki,” he laughed, “This is what we always wanted.”“I don't want this.” I creased my face in disgust. “I know everything you did to me.”“I did nothing you didn’t want.” he walked a
MorganMy phone was ringing, but it was not on the nightstand. It was ringing somewhere on the floor close to the door; I think. My head was pounding like crazy. Someone shaking me made me open my eyes. I blinked a couple of times, hoping the room would stop spinning.I stumbled off the bed and looked around. There were two women in my bed and one on the floor. I did not know what was going on. The ringing was so loud. All I wanted was to go back to bed. Sleep off the dizzy.“Make it stop.” the woman on the floor stirred.I moved to find my phone. I had no idea what the hell was happening. When I got my phone, I almost threw it on the floor. I wanted to hurl. I scrunched and answered the call.
SebastianThe shouting inside was hurting my ears even as I stood outside smoking. I don’t even know how they all ended up shouting like that. They have all drifted, of course, from the actual issue.Morgan’s idea made sense. Nick would do anything to get to Kioni. All this time we had focussed on that factor. We had her protected at all times that it was difficult for him to try something. That’s why he easily spotted the weaker spot.Harper.How many weak spots could he see? I drew a big puff and stared at nothing. I wish I could drown all the noise. Prison was usually peaceful at this time of the night. Their annoying fighting was actually making me miss the serenity.“I thought you had gone home,” I to
