Angelica’s POV
“Angelica, there you are. What are you doing out here alone? The party is inside.” I hear Raven’s voice ask me, as he moves to stand next to me, while I continue to gaze up at the full moon tonight.
“Do you ever wonder if she keeps an eye on us?” I ask him, while I close my eyes and begin to absorb the power of the moon’s beams, like a siphon feeding off her prey, as I feel its power strengthening me, with each second that passes.
“Who?” Raven asks, making me open my eyes to look at him, as I shook my head wondering if there was even an ounce of Moon Goddess gene in him, or if he was simply just a wolf.
“Raven, I sometimes worry about you.” I teasingly say to him, as I nudge into him playfully, making him leave out a chuckle, before he finally says to me, “I don’t have powers like you Angelica, but I do believe that she watches over all of us, especially you.”
“Why do you think that?” I asked him with a confused look on my face, wondering why he thinks that I am any more special than him, or our siblings.
“I don’t know. Maybe it’s because you are the only one of us that has been able to harvest her powers. Plus, you are the first born, and the only girl among us, and she seems to favor the women in our family.” Raven explains to me, as he leans against the rail looking back at the house, full of people that had gathered here tonight for my coming-of-age celebration.
His words held truth to them, as his father had never shown an ounce of my mother’s powers, but that didn’t make him any less significant. He was a powerful Alpha, just like my father, and it was clear that our greatest grandmother watched over him, leading him to my father’s pack, where he and my mother had been reunited with each other.
In a way, it seemed as if her blessings were different for her greatest grandchildren, but it was clear that she was looking after all of us, empowering us among her creations. But even though our blood was mixed with their blood, and I had been gifted a powerful wolf, I didn’t quite feel like I was truly one of them.
Ravan and my brother, Maverick, were destined to become the next Alphas of our packs, but me, there really was no specific meaning to my life, like them. My parents’ main priority was mating me off, because my mother believed that was the true reason why she had defeated the Dark Prince, and that her blood poisoned him instead of impowering him, but I didn’t hold those same beliefs.
In my heart, I believed that they defeated the Dark Prince because my mother was strong-willed and that she had finally found her place in this world, that she wasn’t willing to give up so easily, especially to a vamp that deemed himself a Prince. Not that I had anything against the vamps, as I deeply care about Uncle Tristan and my cousin Titan, but to self-proclaim a title was absurd to me. Regardless, I didn’t think that mating me off was the answer to anything, other than to tie me down to a world that I didn’t quite feel like I belonged in, and I wasn’t going to allow myself to be mated off without a fight.
“You know you are never going to find your mate, if you stay hidden among the shadows of the night.” Maverick now says to me, as he pushes off the railing, grabbing a hold of my hand, before he begins to pull me towards the house.
I thought about putting up a fight, but I knew that he must have had orders from my parents to retrieve me, and I didn’t want to get him in trouble for failing the mission they had sent him on. Plus, there was the fact that I knew my mate wasn’t within the walls of the house, as I had already cast a spell among those attending, to make sure he wasn’t among them, before I had made my grand entrance earlier this evening.
As he pulls me into the house, I swear all eyes moved to look at us at once, making me instantly feel uncomfortable. I wanted to turn right back around and head back outside to the comfort of the night, but Raven at that moment must have felt my discomfort, as he puts his arm around my back, and leans into me, before he whispers in my ear, “It’s just for a few more hours. I promise you that you will survive.”
My head turned to look at him, as my eyes narrowed, and if I didn’t have a hundred sets of eyes on me right now, I would zap him a good one. Unfortunately, I was forbidden to use my powers tonight, especially since we had guests among us that were unaware of what I truly was.
So instead, I forced a smile on my face, as I said through gritted teeth to him, “You will pay for this later.” Before I pulled from his hold on me, and walked towards my parents’ guests, that were dancing on the dance floor, doing my best to hold myself together, as my eyes moved to the grandfather clock in the room, praying that the hands would move faster.
Abruptly I came to a stop, as a tall man stepped in my direct path I was heading in, blocking my way to the most passive way through the crowd of guests, to my freedom on the other side of the dance floor. “Angelica, you look beautiful tonight. May I have this dance?” He asks me, as I stare up at him, wondering who he was, because I don’t recall ever seeing him before tonight.
The look on my face must have given away my curiosity, because he then says to me, “I am sorry, where are my manners. I am Joffrey, the soon to be Alpha of the Blood Stone pack.”
“Oh.” Slipped from my lips, as my eyes moved from him to my parents that were standing in the corner of the room with their eyes on me like hawks, as it was clear that they had sent him in my direction.
Turning my attention back to Joffrey, I gave him a forced smile, before I admit to him, “I’m really not a good dancer, and I fear that I would make a spectacle of the both of us.”
“Well, that’s even better yet, because I am a horrible dancer myself.” He said, as he took me by the hand and pulled me to an open spot on the dance floor, out of the direct line of my parents’ sight, not giving me another chance to protest.
Wrapping his arms carefully around me, not to invade my privacy too much, he leans down in my ear and whispers, “Pretend to look like you are having fun for both of our sakes.” Making me realize that he was just as much of a victim right now as I was to my parents’ meddling.
Knowing now that he was being forced to endure this too, I felt a relief wash over me, as I relaxed, knowing that he was the least bit interested in me as I was in him. “So, which one of my parents put you up to this?” I whispered back to him, wondering if it was my mother again trying to set me up.
Joffrey let out a chuckle, making it look like I had said something funny to him, so they would obviously think we were having a good time, before he says to me, “Neither. It was actually my parents.”
I stopped moving to the music, as I looked at him in disbelief, shocked that it wasn’t my own that had set this up. “Really?” I asked him, before he pulled me back into his embrace, and whispered this time into my ear, “Don’t make it obvious, but as we turn, look into the far corner of the room, and you will see them watching us like hawks.”
Slowly he turned me to the beat of the song, and over his left shoulder I could see them standing in the corner of the room, just where he had said to look. They were an older couple, about ten plus years older than my own parents, and it was now clear to me why they were forcing him to do this, as age was no longer on his father’s side to run a pack.
Knowing that the two of us were under the same pressure tonight from our parents, I decided to make a proposal to him, knowing that he would accept. “I’ll make you a deal. You stay by my side all night, making it look like we are having the time of our lives together, and I will do the same for you.”
“Deal.” He said without a second of hesitation, as he extended his arm, making me spin, before he pulled me back into his embrace.
“I thought you said you were a horrible dancer.” I said just before his arm wrapped around me, twirling me in a circle, before pulling me back into him once again.
A mischievous laughter now freely slips from his lips, before he says to me, “I had to convince you to dance with me somehow.”
Angelica’s POV Meeting Joffrey was like a breath of fresh air, as I felt like I had been saved from my own party by him. It was crazy to see that I wasn’t the only one with parents who wished to mate their child off, and that he wanted no part in it, like myself. Turns out that Joffrey’s father was old school, and he believed one of the requirements to being an Alpha was to find a mate suited to be a Luna before taking the role, explaining why he was still an Alpha at his age. It was clear that Joffrey was in no hurry to find his mate, or someone to fulfill that position, just so he could take the reign as Alpha. The more the two of us talked, the more I was finding solace in our conversation, and I was actually starting to enjoy my evening, even taking the dance floor a few more times between our conversations, for good measures of convincing our parents that it was more than it was. But it was clear that the agreement that we had made
Angelica’s POV My father of course shut the party down, and locked the estate up like a fortress, not allowing anyone in or out, until every single guest had been interrogated and accounted for. The guests that once had smiles on their faces from all the riches at the party now stood there in a single line, with either a sober or a confused look now on their faces, as they waited to see if they passed the exam that Selena was giving them all, as I sat there watching them from afar. My parents had insisted that I head upstairs to my room, but I wasn’t going anywhere if the person truly was inside our home. Since I was the only one that had seen or sensed his presence, my argument to stay won, but of course with stipulations, I was made to agree too. As my eyes looked at each guest in the line, not a single one of them stood out at me, and I knew that this was a waste of time, as it was clear that the person that I had seen was gone. My po
Angelica’s POV Last night, it felt like it had taken forever for Selena to examine each guest, and in the end, she found nothing, leaving my parents feeling helpless to find my attacker. I, on the other hand, felt a fire coming to life inside of me, and I would be damned if I allowed anyone, especially him, to violate me like that again. His words still echoed in my head, as a reminder of his existence, but it fueled a fire inside of me that I couldn’t explain. His claim to me being his held no validation, as I belonged to no one, but myself. I wasn’t used to being the prey, and I hated the way it was making me feel, giving me a new determination, not to allow this to happen to me again. Finding myself unable to sleep, as the sun began to slowly rise, I headed outside to the training area, while only the night’s patrol was awake, and everyone else was fast asleep in their beds. Now that the guests were long gone, I was free to be myself,
Angelica’s POV It took a lot of pleading and convincing, but Selena finally caved, giving me the name of a warlock that she knew, that could possibly help me. But the problem was, he wasn’t from our region, nor was he affiliated with a coven, telling me that finding him could be like finding a needle in a haystack. Unfortunately, Selena wouldn’t be able to accompany me, as age was starting to play a toll on her, and I could see that the magic she had used last night had drained her. I thought about asking Raven to help me, but I knew that he would just go running to our parents, telling them of my plan, and it would be brought to a halt before I even stepped foot off this estate. This left me with no other choice but to do this on my own. Packing a backpack with essentials, I put it under my bed, as I headed downstairs to dinner with my family, wanting to see them all one last time before I left, not knowing what my future holds. As I ent
Angelica’s POV Thankfully, I had been planning my great escape from this fortress for years, and I knew my father’s patrols’ habits like the back of my hand. There was a small but large enough gap between his set of patrols that ran the borders of the estate nightly, and I knew the exact time and spot where it happened. It was my only hope of getting off the estate without him knowing, and I just prayed that he hadn’t changed the night patrol after what happened. Although Selena was still hesitant about me doing this, she agreed to keep my mother occupied, and my father was too busy collaborating with my uncles in his office to even notice me sneaking out the back door. Putting a veil up around me, like Selena had taught me years ago, I walked freely past my father’s men in the back yard undetected, making my way into the forest that surrounded our estate. Looking down at my watch, I picked up my pace knowing that the window I had was ne
Angelica’s POV Well, this was definitely not what I had planned, but he did have a vehicle making my journey a bit easier. I knew once we got to the city, I would have to shake him somehow, because I couldn’t allow him to get fully involved. Plus, there was the fact that I had to stay under Uncle Tristan’s men’s radar, as I knew the city was his territory, and the vamps roamed freely around it. Being accompanied by a full-grown Alpha was going to draw a bit of attention to me, and I couldn’t allow his presence to interfere with what I had to do. Thankfully, Joffrey didn’t ask me anymore questions on our drive there about it, making me believe that he truly thought I was nuts, and that he was coming along for entertainment purposes. Regardless of why he was doing this, I found myself thankful for the ride, taking one less obstacle out of my way from finding the warlock that Selena spoke of. Instead of questions, our ride was full of norma
Angelica’s POV The hotel was exquisite and reminded me of a hotel I had stayed at once as a child, before I had gotten my powers. It was clear that my powers were the reason why my parents stopped traveling with me, as it took years for me to develop how to truly control them, but right now, I am realizing how much I missed out on because of them. The best part of the room was the view of the city, and I couldn’t help but stand in front of the grand windows staring out at the busy streets below, as I now longed to walk them. “Are you sure it’s not safe for us to go out?” I asked Joffrey, who was sitting on the couch, looking at his phone.“Angelica, we already went over this. Your warlock can wait until tomorrow.” He says back to me, as he sits his phone down and looks at me, with a hint of frustration in his eyes, because I keep asking.Looking back out the window, I say under my breath, “It’s not that.”Getting to his feet, he moves by my side, staring down himself a
Angelica’s POV It took a bit longer than I anticipated to freshen up, especially after I had turned my attention to the bathroom and all the amenities that it had to offer. Now freshly showered and wrapped in the cozy white robe from the hotel, I step out of the bathroom, hoping that my dress had arrived, because to be honest, I was starving after missing dinner tonight with my family. But as I stepped out of the bathroom I froze, seeing the sight in front of me.Joffrey was in the bedroom, without a shirt on and his back turned to me, as he was getting dressed in what looked like a suit, but it wasn’t the suit he was putting on that caught my attention. Don’t get me wrong, I have seen many shirtless men in my lifetime being part she wolf, but I had never seen an Alpha that I wasn’t related to, shirtless. There was a clear difference in body structure between an Alpha and a wolf lower ranked in the pack, and right now I was noticing it for the first time, as I stood th
Angelica’s POV “Raven!” I called out, as the dust began to settle in front of me, showing the mass destruction of my powers, as I prayed to my greatest grandmother, that I didn’t kill my cousin in the process of trying to save myself from the heir’s men. The once green vegetation in front of me was now covered in the dust of the vampires’ remains, as not a single survivor remained. My heart began to race in my chest, as I called out once again to Raven, while I began to move towards where he had been standing when I had sent the blast of my powers straight towards him and the heir’s men. The chaos behind me now sounded muffled, as my head felt like it was beginning to spin, thinking that I had just recklessly used my powers, killing my cousin. But as I moved towards where he was standing the dust that coated the ground began to move, making me freeze in my tracks, not knowing if it was Raven or one of the heir’s men that had survived.
Joffrey’s POV The heir’s army was gaining ground, as they had busted through the protection shield and the gates of Angelica’s father’s estate, and I was trying to do my best to help hold them, allowing Angelica and Selena enough time to reverse the spell of the telus. But it was clear that the heir had utilized his time regrouping, coming up with a strategic plan to infiltrate the estate, taking us all by surprise. Alpha Bishop was doing his best with his warriors to take down as many of the heir’s men that he could, but there were far too many of them, making him have to allow small groups at a time through. His warning howl echoed through the land, warning the second line of defense that they were coming, and I prayed that our second line of defense could handle them, as they were the only thing now standing in the way of the heir’s men reaching Angelica. My greatest grandfather on the other hand had disappeared once the gates came do
Angelica’s POV Stepping outside the protective walls of my father’s house, I froze in shock at the chaos that was happening on the front lawn, as the heir’s army had made their way through my father’s gates. The witches and warlocks were holding their own against the vampires, and the wolves were in full blown battle mode, scattered out on the entirety of the front lawn, holding the vampires from making their way to the house. Joffrey nor my father were no where in sight, making me believe that they were on the frontlines with my Uncle Bishop, trying to hold off the heir from entering. I knew that I had to get to them, but there was no safe direct path to make it there. Taking a deep breath, I composed myself, knowing that I had to make it passed a battlefield if I was going to make it to the frontlines where they were. Calling upon my powers, I raised my hands in front of me, before I began to make my way down the steps, knowing that on
Angelica’s POV It didn’t take long for Talon to come walking in the room, as I stood beside Selena while she went over the spell with me, knowing that it was going to take all three of us to reverse the spell that Alatar had placed on the telus. I personally had never seen such a complex spell as the one we were about to perform, but I knew that Selena knew what she was doing and had faith in her to guide me through it. “Just in time.” Selena says to Talon, as she grabs the potion she had made, while she ushers for me to retrieve the candles placing them in a circle like she had told me to do. As I placed the candles in the circle, Talon moved to stand to the north, as Selena moved the potion to the center taking her place to the south, while I moved between the two of them to the east. When we were all in our places, Selena says, “Whatever happens, don’t break the circle.” She then turned to face me, before she says, “I
Joffrey’s POV “How is this even possible?” I asked, stepping away from Angelica, towards my greatest grandfather, now alive and well standing before me. “It seems the heir’s blood wasn’t the only thing trapped inside the sunstone.” Angelica confesses to me, making Ambrogio’s eyes move from my own to her. I had my suspicions that his soul was somehow bonded to the sunstone, but I never would have imagined that he was literally trapped inside of it.“The heir’s blood?” Ambrogio asks, as if he was confused, which he probably was, since it has been many moons since he was imprisoned, and so much has changed since then. “Tyler, the vampire that had imprisoned you is dead, by my mother’s hands, but he left behind a son, which is whose blood was trapped inside the sunstone with you.” Angelica explains to him, trying to get him up to date with what is going on here now at the present time. “Tyler’s dead.” He now said,
Angelica’s POV My body was frozen in place, as I continued to stare into the sunstone, realizing that the heir’s blood wasn’t the sole cause of the pulse that beat in the center of it, as it now looked like it had a heart of its own. At first, I felt fear, but that fear was slowly disappearing as I began to feel a source of energy from the sunstone entering my body. As that energy seeped from the sunstone into the tips of my fingers, making its way up my arms and to my heart, I began to feel an immense feeling of love washing through me like a tidal wave. Of course, I thought it was Selene’s love, making me close my eyes, as I began to welcome it into my heart, but as I welcomed the love into me, I realized it wasn’t her love I was welcoming. Tyler’s voice at that moment begins to echo in my head, as he says, “Only my blood shall release you, combined with the love of her soul.
Angelica’s POV Holding the sunstone in my hand, I tried to focus on the tiny little speck in the middle of it pulsating, but I was finding it hard to do so with all the chaos going on outside. “Focus Angelica.” Selena says to me, as she hovers over me, making it even harder for me to focus, with all the pressure that was now on my shoulders, and the thought of Joffrey out there on the frontlines. Leaving out a growl of frustration, I lowered the sunstone from my view, before I said, “I don’t know if I can do this.” While tears began to pool in my eyes, knowing that so many lives were counting on me, but here I was unable to pull myself together. For some reason, my mind was still stuck on Mrs. Thomas, and how I wasn’t strong enough to keep her safe. It was a brutal reminder to me that I wasn’t as strong as I once thought that I was, and right now, there was so many lives counting on me that I felt the weight of the pressure n
Angelica’s POV I don’t know exactly what I was expecting when we returned to the house, but I knew that the look on Selena’s face, along with Talon’s expressions right now wasn’t it. It was clear that something was wrong, as the look of dread filled her eyes, as she stood there holding the book that Alatar had left for her. Moving quickly to Selena’s side, I asked her, “What’s wrong? Is there something wrong with the reversal spell?” “There’s nothing wrong with the reversal spell, it will work, but it calls for a drop of the heir’s blood.” She explains to me, and I shake my head as I realize that was never going to happen, especially with the shield that he keeps up around him, protecting him from anyone being able to lay a hand on him, let alone get a drop of his blood. “Damn it!” Joffrey says, as he runs his hands through his hair, obviously frustrated that even with the reversal spell there was no way to use it, but then h
Angelica’s POV As I sat there, tears began to pour from my cheeks as the minutes began to pass, while my heart ached in my chest. All I wanted at this moment was to see Joffrey’s face once again, and to know that he was okay.A beam of light at that moment shined down on me, and I raised my head to look up to see the moon piercing through the opening in the trees surrounding me. The sunstone around my neck at that very moment began to softly glow, before I heard a faint sound of movement on the other side of the wall. Getting to my feet, my heart began to race, as my eyes focused on the wall in front of me, while fear began to consume me that the heir had sensed my presence alone within the forest, awakening the sunstone. As movement from the other side of the wall filled the air, I raised my hands in front of me, calling upon my powers, as I readied myself for whatever it was.Movement now could be seen at the top of the wall, as a hand reached over its edge, and I st
