CH73 - Cedric's POV
Why? Why would Kai decide to leave now? Were we not making progress with him finally accepting me? And leaving Dereck behind like this? That wasn’t something I ever thought Kai would do, and I don’t think he had expected it either.
There was no time to waste in finding and bringing back my mate before he did something so foolish. Before we went to fight, I should have told him. I should have not left things so vague! From what I had said to him, I thought he would figure it out! I thought he knew how much I loved him!
The two of us shifted into our wolf forms as soon as we had left the packhouse. Dereck was swift and easily kept up with me, though even if he hadn’t been as fast, I wouldn’t have slowed down to wait for him. Kai was my top priority, and I needed to bring him back before he left me for good.

My stomach growls loudly as I smell something tantalising from down the hall. At first, I forget where I am and groggily try standing up. It isn’t until the chains yank me back down that I remember.It’s been a few days now, and no one has come for me. It’s almost as though they’ve forgotten me here. It feels like an eternity has passed me by in this Goddess-awful place with this bastard of a man. And yet, in reality, it has only been a few hours at most since the alpha showed up to visit me. I wish he would take the hint that I won’t give up any information that might put Cedric at risk.Slowly, the alpha walked around me. Each footstep was slow and deliberate. How long has it been since I have been here? A couple of days? Weeks? Whatever length of time it has been, the only thing I know is that I’ve barely had any treatment or time to recover. I get dragged along to the meeting spot in the middle of the passway. The alpha has no plans to hand me over, but I know he will use me as a shield against the two. With Cedric throwing threats around, I quickly notice the bodyguard and the alpha have become distracted. If I’m going to get out of this alive and stop being a liability for my loved ones, then I need to act now. Since I’m already on my side, I don’t have to move much to carry out my plan. That way, I won’t get noticed until I’ve hit the alpha in a spot that should slow him down just enough. I just hope these chains give me enough reach to pull it off. I bring in my knees, making it appear as though I’m just cowering. I don’t have the strength to fight, or the ability to move all that quickly, but I can still move enough that I’ll get just out of reach and provide the distraction my lovers need.
