I woke up the next morning after hearing a loud piercing scream. What was happening? I immediately flung myself out of bed and ran to my parents' room, but no one was there. A terrible feeling grew inside my guts when I realised the scream had to do with Judy.
I ran to Judy's room where I met my mom crying terribly and my dad, with both hands on his head.
What I saw next made my heart skip two beats.
Judy was lying motionless in her bed, entirely soaked with blood. Her blood. My eyes caught some pills on her bedside table, all empty. Then I realised what Judy had done.
I involuntarily fell to my knees.
"Judy no! You shouldn't have done this to yourself! You shouldn't have. We were all going to take care of you and the baby. And now you've done this..." I trailed off. I didn't realise when tears started rolling down my cheeks like rocks down a hill.
My mom just kept on wailing.
My dad was devastated, and was sobbing quietly.
"Mom, please tell me this isn't real! Please tell me it's all a dream, please..." I cried, moving towards Judy, whose entire body was cold and stiff. I shook her, crying for her to wake up. But she didn't. She just lied there, dead.
Our crying and wailing brought neighbors rushing down to our place, and when they saw what had happened, they joined in the tears, some consoling us and some, just staring at Judy, shaking their heads.
The doctor was called later on, which was, literally to me, medicine after death.
He confirmed that Judy was dead and checked for the cause of her death, just to be sure.
He then explained to us what happened - Judy had tried to abort the baby all by herself, and the abortion would have been successful if she hadn't taking too many if the pills.
When the pills were checked, it was discovered that Judy had used the wrong abortion pills, which had in turn, killed both Judy and the baby.
Judy's body was taken away after approval by my parents, to be buried at the cemetery. Everyone had stopped crying, except my mom, who was being consoled by two of her friends. Very soon friends and families started trooping in, all surprised that Judy had been pregnant in the first place. I couldn't stand the noise by the crowd in the living room, so I went into my room, locked the door and laid on the bed, unable to stop thinking about Judy.
After a few minutes, I heard a knock on my door. Who the hell was it? I walked up to the door, half expecting my mom or dad, but it wasn't either of them.
It was Chloe, the daughter of the Andersons. They had just moved in weeks ago, and had come visiting the day after they moved in. Her mother baked the most delicious cookies I had ever eaten. And to my surprise, she and Judy had gotten along really well. Bit I didn't remember Chloe looking so pretty.
Shame on you, I thought, your sister's dead and you're here checking a girl out...
"Uhm, hi Daniel." She said.
"Hi, come in." As she moved in, I could perceive the scent of her perfume. But realising she had come on account of Judy, I stopped thinking about how pretty she was.
I shut the door behind me, and offered her a seat on my bed, since there was no other sitting option.
"Thanks." She said.
"I'm guessing you're here because... You know, Judy."
"Yes. I'm so sorry about that. When I heard, I couldn't believe it."
"I didn't believe my own eyes when I saw her." I sighed.
"I'm so sorry."
"You don't need to be. It's not your fault she tried aborting the baby and ended up killing herself too."
"Uhm... About the pregnancy, I kind of know a thing about who impregnated Judy."
My eyes involuntarily grew wide.
"Who is it? Please tell me, I'll do anything."
"Promise you won't let anyone know I told you this?"
"I won't. I promise. Just tell me who it is, please."
"You know who Adam Walker is, don't you?"
I couldn't believe my ears.
"Adam?" I gasped. There was no way it could be Adam. "No. It can't be Adam. You're mistaken. Adam already has a girlfriend, don't you know? It can't be- "
"Trust me, Daniel, it is Adam. I know it's kind of hard to believe but it's true. Judy had been dating him, and secretly seeing him. She told me everything about it, in case something like this ever happened."
I was dumbstruck.
"No. You're lying. How do I know you're saying the truth? Can you prove all you've said now? Can you?" I asked, hoping she couldn't.
"I can." She said, bringing out her phone from her pocket, "Emily recorded her conversation with Adam the last time they met." She said, clicking play on recording 140717.
I heard Judy talking to someone. The sound of her monotonous voice almost made me cry but I decided I wasn't going to. Not for Chloe to see.
Judy was telling whom she was talking to that she was pregnant, that no one could ever find out about it and she would do any think to get rid of the baby because she wasn't ready for pregnancy and that they needed to do something about it real quick.
When I heard the deep raspy voice, I knew it was Adam. He told Judy that he would give her some drugs to get rid of the baby, and that she would have to use the drugs at night for the drugs to have maximum effect.
Then I heard static, and the recording was over. Words failed me that moment.
"Don't despair Daniel, we'll think of a way to get back at that fucking- "
"No, no. I don't want to get back at him. He did this to get revenge, and I'll give him what he wants." I said, knowing he impregnated Judy and gave her the wrong pills because he knew Emily loved me, not him.
If it was Emily he wanted, he would get back Emily.
"What?! So you're just gonna do nothing about the guy that fucking killed your sister?" Chloe yelled.
"And why do you care?" I shot back. What was her problem? "Well, excuse me for wanting justice to be served!"
"I'm sorry, can I see your phone for a minute?" I asked.
She gave it to me. Bad idea for her.
"You better come up with a plan to get back at Adam, or everyone is going to know about this."
"Here, you can have your phone back now."
I returned her phone to her and when she checked it, she realized what I had just done.
"What the fuck, Daniel! Why did you delete the recording?!"
"So you wouldn't show it to anyone." I said. "And now you have to leave. Please, I need to think."
"Daniel... I know you're hurt, but this is not the way to go about it. I mean, we could have gotten Adam arrested with the recording, but now it's gone, all thanks to you."
"Look, Chloe, I need time to myself. If you could excuse- "
"It's okay. I'll leave." And she did.
I knew she meant well and was hurt with my actions, but I would go apologize later. I had much bigger issues at hand. Adam killed my sister, all because if Emily. Since this whole thing started with Emily, it was going to end with Emily.
"Hey! It's you, Daniel." Chloe said."Hi Chloe, uhm..."Her mom was staring at us, making me a lot uncomfortable."Mom, a little privacy, please?""Oh, right." Her mom said, leaving the room. Chloe sat next to me and urged me to go on."Uh, okay. Chloe, I came here to apologize for- ""I forgive you." She interrupted with a sweet smile."What? Seriously?" I asked in disbelief."Of course. How can I ever say no to you, handsome."Okay, so was she flirting with me now? And did she just call me handsome?"Uh, alright. Thanks a lot.""Yeah, its nothing." She smiled sweetly again.Okay, so silence now. What do I say? What do I do? Man, I hate awkward silence. "Uh, I'm really missing Judy nowadays, you know." I said."Aw." She cooed, placing her hand on top of mine, sendi
"Jeez, Daniel. You didn't have to yell at me." Emily complained."Emily, you... I... Judy's dead." I said, without really meaning to."What?! Oh my God! How? When?" She gasped."I'd rather not talk about it, Emily.""No, please. I really want to know."Despite how much I tried not to, I told her, deleting every aspect that had to do with Adam."Oh. My. Goodness. That's why you left your backpack at school the other day and was absent the whole week. I was so worried about you, Daniel." She said, placing her hands on my shoulders.I could see that she felt sorry for me, but I was far from ready for what was about to happen. She was intending to kiss me, and that was the last thing I wanted, but I stayed still, unable to move any part of my body because a part of me wanted that kiss, but the other part wanted my first kiss to be with someone else, per
I was obviously very annoyed, but also sad at the same time. Either way, I knew I'd done the right thing, even though it didn't go quite as expected. As hard as I tried not to, I still cried because I just couldn't help it.I broke Emily's heart, even though I didn't mean to. She just wouldn't understand that we weren't just meant to be.Well at least Adam would be happy now.I tried forcing myself to sleep but I just couldn't. I couldn't stop myself from thinking about Emily. She'd gone through a lot in her life and I wasn't even helping matters. I knew I loved her, so why did I say I didn't? What was wrong with me?I laid on the couch, thinking for what seemed like ages to me, before the door opened and my parents walked in."Hi mom. Hi dad." I said, trying not to show any emotion."Hey son." My dad said gloomily."Hi Daniel." My mom said in the s
"Emily?" I asked again in shock."Daniel..." She wrapped her arms around me as we hugged tightly. That was when I felt the bump at her stomach. I pulled away from her."Daniel, it's so great to see you again! I've- ""You're pregnant." I interrupted. Why was she pregnant?I was. Stunned."Oh, y- yes I am." She stuttered."Gosh!" I put my hands on my face. "Who's the father?" I asked, afraid of hearing the name I didn't want to hear."A- Adam is." She said, her face expressionless. "Please, can we go talk somewhere private?" She asked, staring at Ashley. There was no need for me to be mad. It wasn't her fault. I left her."Uh, okay. Ashley, I'll be back in a sec, please just finish this up." I said, referring to the cart."But...but you said you're all mine today, and- ""Ashley..." I said through cl
"Don't do that!" Ashley yelled, rushing over to where I stood, collecting my phone charger from me."What? I want to charge." I interjected, scrunching up my face at her. She made a face at me, sitting on the chair behind me, my favourite sofa."I'm charging there. Go find somewhere else." She whined."Wait, why are you in my house again?" I asked her, taking my charger from her forcefully, going to find another place to charge."Because you love me, that's why." She smiled at me, grabbing the remote from the table, changing the channel."Love is a strong word." I mumbled, plugging my phone in a socket behind me. I sat down on the sofa near the entrance, since Ashley was sitting on my favourite one."So you don't love me, then?" She questioned, with a frown on her face. I shook my head. When did I say that I didn't?"I didn't say that, Ashley." I told her.
Me:Uh, yeah, that's what he's doing right now. How did you know? Guessed?I lied. I lied for the second time about Adam to Daniel. I feel so guilty and...sad. Sure, I would love to have someone to pamper my feet but Adam wouldn't do it for anything in the world. Why did I lie to Daniel? I guess I felt some kind if way that he was happy with the redhead chick he was with at the mall that I had to make up stuff about Adam just so he wouldn't think I was damned forever. I didn't want to look like a pathetic whiner to Daniel. At all.Danny❤:Oh.That was all the message carried. Just "oh." What did he mean by that? Was he jealous? I didn't know why I felt happy that he was jealous but I liked it. I liked the feeling I got talking to him. I liked it so much.Me: What? What's wrong?
When the banging on the door reached my ears, I shuddered in fright, dropping the bowl of water in my hand. I peeped out the kitchen door, but it just wasn't easy to view the door to the entrance from the kitchen door. I slowly walked out the kitchen as I heard the banging become louder and louder. Who the heck was that?"Who's that?!" I yelled at the door as I neared it. A low, mumbling sound came from the other side of the door. Adam?"Is that you? Honey?" I asked as I placed my hand on the doorknob. It felt cold and only added to the fear I felt inside. My heart thumped in my chest when I heard the voice."Open the damn door!" I heard Adam's voice say as I unlocked the bolt on the door. The door got pushed open the moment I unlocked it and an angry looking Adam is seen, breathing hard, looking a little damp. He stared at me with his large brown eyes, making me gasp in shock."What...wha..."
We got into the bedroom and Adam shut the door behind us. I took off my flip-flops as Adam went into the bathroom to pee. I quickly took my dress off and change I to my night robe. I sat on the bed, twirling on it, I laid on our comfortable bed. Adam locked the door and joined me on the bed.We stared at the ceiling in silence for a while, and then Adam spoke up."You kiss great." He mumbled, with his hands behind his head. Was he still drunk? He definitely must have been, because he never complimented me. I should act like I didn't hear. I must have been hearing things anyway."What was that?" I asked."I ain't saying it again." He said, and I smiled, knowing he really said it.Wow. Adam? A compliment? Where was this coming from?"Thanks, but..." I trailed off. I didn't want to upset or annoy him so I decided not to say anything more.
Daniel's POV.I gripped my right leg as unimaginable pain shot up my leg, causing me to yell in pain. I glanced down at my shot leg. My trousers were now wet with thick blood, dripping from the bullet wound. Everywhere was wet with blood. I could hardly focus on anything as a new surge of pain crept up my leg. I looked around. Everywhere was dark and creepy. No one was going to save me. I was hopeless. I was just going to die here. I could feel my sight getting all blurry. There was nothing I could do without yelling from the pain in my leg, I wanted to crawl up to the car and manage to drive to any nearby hospital but the idea soon dissolved in my head as I felt myself losing focus. I felt suddenly tired and yearned to lie my head on the ground as one yearned for water when thirsty. I didn't want to die. I couldn't die now, I just couldn't. But I was losing so much blood. I glanced down at my leg, blinking away the tears that had accumulated at my eyelids to se
Adam's lips trembled as the bat hit the ground after falling from his hand. His expression softened for a bit while he looked at me, but when he looked at Daniel, his expression became as hard as stone."I am going to kill you," Adam said to Daniel. I swallowed, unable to comprehend the events unfolding right in front of me."Adam..." I started, but I couldn't finish it. I couldn't say a word when Adam turned to look at me."You..." He pointed at me, taking one step towards me. I took one step back. He suddenly sighed as he stared at me, and brought his hand down. "How do you betray me like this?" His voice cracked. For the first time since I'd known Adam, I heard his voice crack. He sniffed as he continued. "You left our house...you left your home when I was I trouble. You ran away.""Adam, I didn't - ""No, don't interrupt me," Adam said in a cool voice. This was all too
After about thirty minutes of driving in absolute silence, we finally got to the mall, and, fortunately, we still had another thirty minutes to spare at the mall before they closed the place. As we got out of the car, I made sure to pick all my belongings, especially my phone, I couldn't afford to forget it the second time. Daniel looked at me and took his hand out of his pocket, sliding it in mine as we walked into the mall.Something in my heart fluttered. I was holding hands with Daniel."Don't hold my hand," I said as I tried to remove my fingers from his hand but he gripped my hand tighter."No," he simply said as we walked deeper into the building, nearing the escalator."Leave me," I protested, wiggling my fingers from his grasp. He sighed and finally let me go. I felt a little bad for myself, and him because as much as I wanted to hold hands with him, it just wasn't proper. I was pregnant and
"Come on, Daniel, hurry up," I urged, watching Daniel put on his right shoe, tying the laces as he struggled to button his sleeves at the same time.It was a month later, after I'd settled down in my new home and forgotten all about my past life. . .yeah, I wish I could. I never did. We were in Daniel's house the fateful evening, after Daniel had offered to take me on a shopping spree a few hours ago. I got all dressed up and prettied up only to come find Daniel sleeping in his house. When I woke him up, he'd confessed and told me that it was just a prank, and me, well, being me, forced him and made him agree to taking me on the spree. For two weeks, Daniel had been trying to teach me how to drive. He said it's simple and easy if you concentrate but I found it rather tough. I still hadn't gotten the hang of it yet.Daniel introduced me to a friend of his who worked at an oil and gas company, who said he liked
"For three? Wait, you want to- ""Yes, I want to eat some bacon, how hard is that to understand?!" She shot at me, earning herself a frown-y glare."O...kay, no need for the yelling," Daniel turned around and waved the spoon in his hand in the space between Ashley and I, "and the glaring." He said, looking at me. I shook my head, and waved Ashley off. She went to Daniel and put her arms around him, pressing her chest on his back. She could touch him for all I cared, but yelling at me was not part of the options she had to choose from the list of things that she could and couldn't do, in my own house."Uh, I'm cooking Ashley, get off me." Daniel said, trying to wiggle her off his back but she still held on tight. I stood there and just watched."Why? You smell so nice." She cooed. It made me want to puke, how she talked."Ugh, seriously I need you to get off me, I'm going to
"Hold on, let me get this," Daniel said, holding up one finger as I nodded to him. He brought his phone out of his shirt pocket and I moved towards the kitchen cabinet. I retrieved some frying pans and finally settled on a medium sized one to use to fry eggs. I was suddenly in the mood for Daniel's bacon and eggs and I wanted him to teach me how he made such a delicious delicacy."Good afternoon to you too, Ashley." I heard him say behind me. It was that Ashley girl again. Ugh, she had really perfect timing."Why are you asking that?" Daniel asked, walking slowly, to and fro the kitchen. I brought out some eggs from the bags Daniel had helped me carry inside and started to crack them."I know I've never had a problem with you asking where I am but...I don't know, I'm quite busy now, can we talk later?" He asked. I removed some eggshells from the bowl I cracked the eggs into and headed to the gas cooker to light it up.
"Wait, popcorn? What do you need that for?" I asked, amused at his request."No, not me. You. You'll need the popcorn." He answered."Me? Why? Its not like we're about to watch a movie or some- wait, it's because of what you're about to tell me, right?" I asked him."Yep." He said, popping the P."O...Kay well I don't have popcorn. Will you just tell me already?" I asked, curiosity already eating me up. Why did I even need popcorn to listen to his story? Daniel is just too funny sometimes."You sure you don't want popcorn? It really adds to the - ""Come on, I don't. Tell me now." I demanded."Okay," he cleared his throat and left his sofa, joining me on mine. He faced me and began saying his story, "so I, myself moved here around five years ago. Then this house hadn't even been constructed yet, only my house over there,
"Hey, what the…!" Daniel shouted as we both bent forward by the impulse of the car. I immediately slammed my feet on the brakes again, bringing the car to an abrupt stop right in the middle of the road."Uh…I think I'll better take the wheel." Daniel slowly said and opened the door, he got greeted with hundreds of loud honks as I quickly opened the door to walk out but quickly closed it again because of the oncoming vehicle. When it passed, I reopened the door and hopped out, quickly walking to the other side of the car as Daniel hopped into the drivers seat. I entered the passengers seat and closed the door as Daniel pressed his feet on the accelerator, making the car move forward with a nice, slow speed."Uhm, unless I want to die, remind me never to let you drive again." Daniel joked but I didn't laugh."Deal." I said. This was all a bad idea in the first place even. Well, at least I got one good lesson
I turned to look at Daniel in utter surprise. He chuckled as the car slowed to a halt. Was he really going to teach me to drive right now?Right on the highway?!Daniel unbuckled his seatbelt but left the engine on. "What the heck are you doing?!" I yelled. Was he okay? Had he drunk anything today?"Getting down so we can switch seats." He simply replied, with his cool, sexy voice as if everything was okay.Everything was not okay!"You can't let me..." He was already out of the vehicle, slamming the door shut. In a moment, he appeared at my side of the car and opened the door. Was he actually serious? He was actually going through with this? Was he?"Come on, come out." He said, opening the door wider but I refused to get off the car. I was not ready to die now."Daniel, what are you doing?!" I yelled again, as some cars sped by us noisi
