I stood frozen from the stair case. John was back but he wasn't alone. He had come in with someone else, a lady. I was sad, and I couldn't hide it.

“Brother!” John shook hands with Jake. “This is Stephanie.”

I swallowed hard, wondering what he was doing with this lady whom he had introduced to Jake as Stephanie.

I felt threatened by her striking beauty. She wore a ponytail and she had a smile that made me feel she was having something with John.

“Steph,” Jake grimaced. “Where did you meet her?”

“I'll tell you all about it later, but for now she'll be staying with us.” John brushed past Jake. He was yet to notice my presence, and I was waiting for him to ask after me.

“Where's Ryena, and how's her training going?” John finally asked.

“She's pathetic!” Jake’s reply didn't come as a surprise to me.

I stepped down from the staircase, and I noticed the smile on his face. He closed me in a warm embrace, pressing his lips against mine.

“I've missed you,” I whispered into his ears, and he smiled..

“You can as well take her to the bedroom, and quit kissing in front of your guest,” Jake said in contempt.

John pulled away and I took in a deep breath. I felt guilty that I had kissed his brother in his absence, and not just once.

My eyes met with Jake's and he looked away. He didn't seem to bother and didn't look like he was going to tell John that we had shared romantic moments together in his absence.

“Feel at home Stephanie, and be careful with my brother. He can be brutal,” John smiled, pulling me away, his arms wrapped around my waist.

“How did your training with my brother go?” John asked, as he poured some brandy into his glass. “I hope he wasn't too rash with you?”

I sat on the bed watching him, but deep down in my head, I was playing a game of comparison. John was handsome, but Jake… he was just something else.

“Come on, Reyna,” I hit my head, feeling guilty for being so naive.

I felt even more guilty as the scenes of me and Jake kissing, replayed in my head. I contemplated telling him about it, but I shove it away. I didn't want to hurt him, nor break his trust.

“Are you okay?” He probably had noticed my unease.

“Yes I am,” I shrugged. “Who's that lady you came home with?”

“Her name is Stephanie. She's a loner like you too.” John moved towards me and sat beside me on the bed.

“A loner?” My eyes widened. My thoughts began to race. First it was Jake who had come home with a lady, and that was me, and now it was John.

“Yeah. Her pack was attacked and she's the lone survivor. She needs a pack and that's why I have brought her home.”

“You're my soul mate,” I could still hear Jake's voice in my head. It had been like that ever since the day we both kissed, and I was beginning to wish I didn't let him kiss me.

“Stop!” I yelled.

“Reyna, are you okay?” John shook me, jolting me back to the consciousness of my surroundings. I was shaking and John looked at me. I could tell the surprise looks on his face, wondering what was wrong with me.

I, too, I was surprised. I didn't know when I yelled, but with the voices playing in my head, I had to. Maybe Jake was right after all. Kissing one's soul mate creates a binding, and that was probably what had happened. I didn't experience that when I kissed John for the first time.

“You've been acting strange since I came back. Is everything okay?” He placed the back of his hand on my skin, to check if I was having a fever.

I kept shaking, and I could feel the cold slowly building up within me, even if it was a sunny day.

“You're having a fever,” John rose to his feet and moved moved towards the drawer. I kept shaking while trying to make sense of what was happening and what exactly John was looking for.

“You're not wanted here, and you'll never be part of us!” I could also hear my father's voice, all playing in my head at the same time.

I could feel my head bang, my body temperature increasing and my breaths getting short.

“Hold on Reyna,” I heard John say, as he rushed to my side with a glass of water and some tablets.

I managed to take the tablets from him, but my hands were too shaky to hold firm the glass and it came crashing on the ground.

The shattering of the glass was the last thing I heard and then everywhere went black.

I woke up to find Jake seated by my side, making me to wonder what had happened and why he was the one by my side instead of John.“Where's your brother?” I tried to sit up but felt too heavy to do so. My head was spinning and I felt a sharp pain.“You're finally awake,” I heard John say as he walked towards me from the door, accompanied by someone else.Jake stood up without a word and John took his place, sitting beside me on the bed.“How're you feeling now?” He was soft spoken and the tenderness in his voice said a lot.“I feel dizzy,” I looked at Jake and he looked away.“You're going to be feeling that way for sometime,” the man who had come in with John announced. “It's your wolf form trying to find expression,”“Huh?” My eyes opened wide in disbelief. That didn't sound nice. I knew exactly what I had gone through just before I passed out, and I didn't want it to be a recurring thing.“Thank you so much Seth,” John greeted the man, as he stood up from the bed.Jake had refused

Chapter nine Jake's POVThe night was soft and serene, with the soft glow of the moon casting a silvery sheen over the pool. The water gently rippled, reflecting the stars and the surrounding trees swaying lightly in the breeze. There, I sat alone, my legs dipped in the pool, staring at the stars, with a bottle of whiskey by my side, my loyal companion whenever I felt I neded to be alone. The memories of how I had lost my mother came back to me that night, a night that whenever I remembered, always reminded me of trusting too much.“You seem lost in thought, what's wrong? What's the issue?” Seth asked, coming to sit next to me as he dipped his own legs in the pool. Seth was the only one who really understood me. He taught me everything I knew as far as being a werewolf is concerned, and I would be forever indebted to him for that. "Thinking about what happened five years ago? When will you accept the fact that it's not your fault?" Seth said, patting me gently on the shoulder."It

I quickly slipped away so as not to get seen, and that was when I met Selena the stewardess. Her room was just beside mine, and I guessed she too, had overheard the heated argument between the brothers.“Peeping on the brothers? If I were you I wouldn't do that.” Selena smiled at me.“I…I…I wasn't….” I stuttered. “Forget about what you've heard tonight. They've always been like that since they were boys,” My eyes narrowed, and a smug smile tugged at the corners of my lips. “They've always been like that since they were boys,” I mimicked Selena, though not audibly.“There has always been this tension between them, but believe me, they're the best broth

Chapter ElevenJohn's POV“Welcome lord Bernard,” I took a slight bow, then shook hands with him.“You're doing a good job John. I can see.” The hall was already filled with the other members of the pack, but Jake was no where to be found.“Have you seen Jake?” I turned to Mark, one of my most trusted Betas.“He's gone hunting,” Mark replied.“Hunting? On such an important occasion?” I bit my lips.Reyna walked in, looking very beautiful. I had specifically chosen the dress for her to wear, and just as I had expected, she didn't disappoint me.“Where are the newbies?” Lord Bernard asked as he took his seat by my side.Newbies! That's how they were called. “We're still waiting for the last one.” I called one of the Sentinels and whispered into his ears. After a couple of minutes, Stephanie and the sentinel walked in, and it was time to commence the ceremony.“Have both of them been confirmed to be werewolves?” Lord Bernard asked.“Yes but…one of them is yet to unlock her werewolf pot

I turned around and it was Stephanie.I wiped the tears in my eyes, but not before she could notice that I had been crying. I felt humiliated that I couldn't heal from a simple cut.“Let me see,” She took my hands which had been wrapped with a plaster.I was lucky John stood up to prevent the lord from stabbing me, else I'd have been dead.“Instead of stabbing her, why not give her a little cut? We just want to be sure she can heal for sure, right?” John had suggested just before Lord Bernard could think of stabbing me for real.Lord Bernard had taken a brief moment to ponder over John's suggestion.“Very well,” he sighed, after which he took my hand and with everyone watching, he placed a cut on my wrist, and I bled. All eyes were on me waiting for me to heal, but that didn't happen as the bleeding continued.“Call for first aid,” John instructed, and in no time, they were there.“She can't be admitted in

Jake's POV“Why weren't you around for the imitation ceremony earlier?” John asked, as he walked into my room.“What has my presence or absence got to do with the ceremony? And besides, I was trying out some of the new skills I had learnt from Seth.” I grimaced.I expected John to know better that I don't fancy such occasions, especially where the lords would be gathering. It kept reminding me of my misfortune, and how I was deprived of my rightful place as Alpha of the pack.“Every other member of the pack was present, but you, my own brother, you weren't there.” He reached out for my dagger sheath which was on top of the drawer and tossed it at me, and I gave it a good catch.“Reyna was cut today but she didn't heal,” his voice became softer.I furrowed a brow, and then pulled the dagger from its sheath.“I thought you said she healed the other day you stabbed her.”“Yes she did,” I ran my fingers on the sharp edge of the dagger, reminding me of how blood thirsty I could be. Marcus' POVThe tension in the room was suffocating. Every face around the table reflected the same frustration, fear, and a thirst for vengeance. Three of my most powerful werewolves had been beaten up— not just beaten up, but humiliated. The rogue responsible had made a spectacle of it, and it was a huge sting on my ego.It wasn't the first time we'd dealt with outsiders, but this? This was different. No one messes with me and goes away with it.I sat at the head of the table, my hands clenched tight in front of me as I listened to the others speak. The meeting had dragged on for nearly an hour, and with every word spoken, my blood boiled hotter."Two dead, Marcus," said Ryan, my second-in-command. His voice was steady, but I could see the barely concealed rage in his eyes. "One more wounded, and the rogue didn't even bother hiding his tracks. It's like he's daring us to come after him.""Daring us?" Jaxon scoffed. "He’s mocking us! He’s mocking *you, Marcus. What kind of wolf dare

Jacob's POVThe sound of my boots crunching on the gravel echoed in the quiet night as I made my way to the old Ridge. It wasn’t much of a place—just an old, run-down tavern on the edge of nowhere—but it had served as neutral ground for years. When you needed a conversation that wouldn’t make its way back to either side, this was the spot.Marcus was already there, sitting in a dark corner booth, a half-full glass of whiskey in front of him. He looked as grim as I’d ever seen him. It wasn’t hard to understand why. His pack had been humiliated, beaten down by some rogue wolf. Marcus didn’t take losses lightly, especially not ones that made him look weak.I made my way over and slid into the seat across from him. His cold eyes flicked up to meet mine, but he didn’t say anything at first, just waited for me to speak. He never had much patience for small talk."Thanks for meeting me," I said, signaling the bartender to bring me a drink. "I heard about your pack. About the attack."His ja

Jake's POV The air in the dungeon was thick with the stench of damp stone and decay, the kind of smell that clung to your skin long after you left. I barely noticed it. My focus was locked on the metal door in front of me, the one separating me from Diane. The guards stepped aside as I approached, their expressions unreadable. They knew better than to question why I was here. Everyone knew what Diane had done, the pain she had caused.I pushed the door open.Diane sat in the corner, shackled to the wall. Her once-perfect appearance was in ruins, her hair tangled, her face streaked with dirt and dried blood. She looked up at me, her eyes narrowing before shifting into something unreadable.“Jake,” she murmured, voice hoarse. “Here to let me go?”I let out a dark chuckle before slamming the door shut behind me. “You think this is a rescue mission?”She smirked, though I could see the flicker of doubt in her gaze. “You’ve always been the reasonable one. The quiet one.” She tilted her hea

Stephanie's POV The silence between us wasn’t heavy. It wasn’t awkward or tense. It simply… was.John and I sat side by side on the fallen log, the cool night air wrapping around us. The moon was high, its light filtering through the trees, casting silver threads over the clearing. I focused on the sound of the wind rustling the leaves, on the distant hoot of an owl. Anything but the way John’s presence made my chest feel tight.I wasn’t used to this.Silence, yes. I had spent years locked inside my own head, drowning in the absence of words. But this wasn’t that kind of silence. This was different. This was… safe.I stole a glance at him.John was watching me, his eyes darker than usual under the soft glow of the moon. His expression was unreadable, but there was something in the way he looked at me that made my skin prickle. Not with fear. Not with unease. But with something I wasn’t ready to name. His lips parted, and for a moment, I thought he might speak. But he didn’t. Instead,

She was about to bolt.In a flash, I moved, cutting her off before she could step inside. I wasn’t even sure why I did it,only that letting her slip away didn’t feel like an option. She gasped, her eyes widening in shock. “What the hell, John?”I crossed my arms, blocking the door with my body. “Were you planning on running away?”Her lips parted, then pressed into a thin line. “I wasn’t running.”“Then why did you freeze up when you saw me?”Stephanie huffed, crossing her arms. “I wasn’t expecting you to appear out of nowhere like a damn shadow.”I smirked. “Werewolf speed has its perks.”She rolled her eyes and tried to step around me, but I shifted, keeping her in place. She let out a frustrated sigh. “Move, John.”“No.”Her brows knitted together. “Excuse me?”I leaned against the doorframe,

John's POV The hum of the engine filled the silence between Jake and me as I drove through the dimly lit streets. The city blurred past, a mixture of neon lights and shadows, but my focus was elsewhere. Something in my chest felt… off. Like a weight pressing down, not painful, but present. An awareness I couldn’t shake.Jake sat beside me, lost in his own thoughts, his fingers drumming against his knee. I knew what he was thinking about,Reyna. The need to get back to her, to see her safe with his own eyes. I understood that kind of devotion. Or at least, I thought I did.But something had shifted in me.I gripped the wheel tighter, staring at the road ahead. Reyna. The woman I had fought for, bled for, almost died for. The woman I had sworn to protect.Yet, something was missing. The bond, the pull I used to feel toward her, was dull, faded. Not gone, but distant—like a song played from another room, recognizable but no longer mine to claim.I inhaled sharply, forcing my mind to focu

"Where…where am I?""A safe house," she answered, reaching out to squeeze my hand. "You've been unconscious for two days. We were so worried."Two days? My mind struggled to catch up. The last thing I remembered was pain,Damon, Diane, and chaos. I swallowed, my throat dry."Stephanie?" I croaked. Before Sarah could respond, the door swung open, and there she was."You're finally awake." We had to move.Without wasting another second, we slipped through the back gate, where a black car was already waiting for us.“Get in,” the driver said in a low voice, his eyes darting toward the front of the building.Sarah climbed in first, pulling me along with her. Damon’s gaze darted to them before snapping back to me.“You’re a damn psycho,” he spat. “How the hell did you cut off Diane’s hand?”I twirled my blade between my fingers, feigning boredom. “The same way I’ll take something from you if you don’t release my people.” My voice was calm, steady. Deadly.Damon scoffed. “Diane was weak. Their lifeless forms littered the hallway, but I had no time to care. I reached into my pocket, pulling out the small vial of wolfsbane. Its dark, pungent scent filled my nostrils, sharp and intoxicating.A scream echoed through the cellar. My chest tightened. Then no one will bother looking at it.”She blinks, then lets out a chuckle. “Even if you ruin my face, even if you kill me, what makes you think Jake and John won’t do the same to you?”I drag her toward the hallway leading to the back exit, my nails digging into her arm. “If you survive tonight, you should be grateful,” I sneer. “Because I don’t think Jake and John stand a
