Chapter 10

Chapter ten

Stephanie's POV

I woke up that night on my way to use the restroom when I began to hear the Alpha brothers, and from the tone which they spoke with, it was obvious there was something about their relationship that they weren't talking about.

John was the Alpha of the pack but it appeared as though Jake wasn't happy with it. I quickly slipped away so as not to get seen, and that was when I met Selena the stewardess.

Her room was just beside mine, and I guessed she too, had overheard the heated argument between the brothers.

“Peeping on the brothers? If I were you I wouldn't do that.” Selena smiled at me.

“I…I…I wasn't….” I stuttered.

“Forget about what you've heard tonight. They've always been like that since they were boys,”

My eyes narrowed, and a smug smile tugged at the corners of my lips. “They've always been like that since they were boys,” I mimicked Selena, though not audibly.

“There has always been this tension between them, but believe me, they're the best brothers you would ever meet. Always ready to lay down their lives for one another.”

I doubted it. The conversation I had overheard between them didn't portray that. As a matter of fact, ever since I arrived there, all I've noticed between the brothers is an unspoken tension.

“How long have you been with them?” I managed to ask Selena. She seemed to know so much about the brothers, that one would even think she was their mother.

“I've been with them for as long as I can remember, let's say since they were babies,” Selena's smile widened, but she didn't seem to want to continue any further. “Just go to bed. Tomorrow is the grand welcome party where you and Reyna would be officially initiated into the Lunar Cresent pack.”

“Oh, that's true,” I gasped. How lucky I was to get initiated into the pack on the same day with Reyna even if she had been there before I arrived.

I returned to my room and shut the door behind me. It was just my first day there and I could already tell that there was so much going on between the brothers.

The morning sun filtered through the window of my room sending it's rays directly into my eyes. It was morning.

I stretched out my arms, feeling too reluctant to rise on my feet, but I had to. It was the morning of my imitation into the Lunar Cresent pack, a place I can now call family.

Even though, I've now found myself a new family, I still couldn't hide the sadness that accompanied the feeling of losing ones family, and then being the lone survivor.

I heard a knock on my door, and it was John.

“Come in,” I sat up on my bed, pulling my blanket up to cover my body very well.

“Sorry about yesterday. I didn't even get to come and see you and ask if you were comfortable.” John said as he walked into the room, standing few metres away from my bed.

He was Indeed nicer, nicer than his brother Jake, who hadn't said a word to me since I arrived. He probably must be full of himself, but thank goodness he wasn't the Alpha.

“It's okay. I am the one who is indebted here. Thank you for everything.” I said.

“It's nothing. I hope you had a good night rest? And hope the room is okay?”

“Yes it is, and I slept well too.” I couldn't help but look at him with so much admiration. He really deserved being the Alpha of the pack. He had mastered control of both his human and werewolf form, and that alone, as far as I was concerned, was enough to make him the alpha of the pack.

“That's good. You'll be meeting with the lords of the pack and every other member of the pack today. The hall will be filled in the next two hours. So, start getting ready,”

I felt tempted to ask him what happened between him and Jake the previous night, but I quickly discarded the thought. I didn't want him thinking that I was eevesdropping on their conversation.

“I'll be there,” I tried not to smile too much. Even if John was being nice to me, and was equally handsome, I knew there was nothing more I could be to him than one of his subordinates.

I saw him and Reyna kiss just yesterday, and I knew what that meant. They were a couple. How lucky Reyna is to have someone like John. I imagined.

He left, and then, I fell back on the bed, making me wish I could sleep on it all day.

“Oh my,” I sighed, and then got up again.

“Get her, and make sure she doesn't escape,” I could still hear Marcus' voice as he dispatched his pack members to go after me on the night that my entire pack was attacked.

“Run, Steph, and make sure nothing happens to you,” My mother had said, as she made an opening in the wall, allowing me to slip through into the cold rainy night. I tried to convince her to come with me, but she refused.

“You need to survive, Steph for the sake of the pack. So, go!” She pushed me.

My mother had done everything to make sure I got away in one piece, but she had to pay the price for it. I wished I was half as brave as she was, but I wasn't.

I was a coward! Only thinking about myself. Putting on a smiling face every time was just to hide the pains I was suffering from within.

Tears welled up in my eyes, and I let them flow. The water from the shower was cold, reminding me of the rain that had fallen on that night.

It would be that most traumatic experience for me for as long as I lived, and I hope the day would come when I'd be able to get justice for every member of the pack, especially my mother.
