POV: Echo

The nurse had barely left the room before someone lightly knocked on the door.

“Come in,” Atlas called out, and Cordelia pushed the door open. She’s holding some odd-looking squares of black and white shiny material. She attaches them to a white thing on the wall, which lights up, illuminating the photos on the squares. I can only assume they are my x-rays, as they both show what looks to be bones. Broken bones.

The one with two smaller bones shows a line across each. The x-ray of what I believe to be my ankle was nightmarish to look at. Cordelia sighs, frowning before she turns to us.

“Well, your wrist will be a simple matter of placing a cast for a couple of days until Tala heals it.” She points at the cracks on the x-ray. “You can see the relatively clean fractures here.”

“Unfortunately, this ankle is another matter entirely!” She waved at the mangled mess in the x-ray photo. “I am glad that you could hold off healing this Tala, although I can see where you braced wit

POV: Echo Even though I had just spent the last four days unconscious, I was completely overcome with pure exhaustion after having woken up and met Noira. She seemed to notice and politely excused herself from the room, leaving Atlas and I alone. He watched me closely, as though I’d disappear if he blinked too long. Looking him over, I realized he was still wearing the same black shirt and jeans he’d put on before we left the Red Stone pack. The outfit is crumpled and wrinkled, and his dishevelled hair and stubbly chin complete the look. I can tell he has been sleeping in the chair beside my bed, waiting for me to wake up. I place a shaky hand on his cheek, and he leans into it, the tension leaving his body. “I’m here, Atlas, and I’m not going anywhere!” I whisper, leaning forward to kiss his forehead before releasing him. Chuckling, he smiles at me, eyes sparkling in amusement. “You’re the one in the hospital bed, and yet you’re comforting me!” I can feel my cheeks turn pink a bit

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Nightmare

POV: Echo The scent of cedar and vanilla makes me gag as he slaps me hard enough across the face that I black out. I turned to him and his Luna kicking me and furiously screaming at me about Beta John having to strip his own linen because I was too lazy to. Blinking away the tears, I am now pinned to the wall, Alpha Brady kissing my neck. I squeeze my eyes shut, and suddenly I’m 15, curled into a tiny ball on the floor, whimpering in pain as he cuts a tally mark deep into my skin. Now I am back on his bed as he shoves his tongue down my throat. Blink, and I was tumbling down the stairs after he kicked me down them for tripping on the foot that he had stuck out and dropping a cup. Now I can feel his hand in my hair, keeping my head under the freezing water as he fills my tub with me in it. Then I’m in the basement. He’s lying on top of me, half naked and about to mark me. Just as I feel his fangs on my skin, it fades away and I can hear a woman screaming, pleading, for someone to st

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Outside

I buried my face in his broad chest, breathing his scent and listening to his steady heartbeat as he carried me through the halls. He only stops once to let the nurse at the desk know that Healer Cordelia was to come to check on me in the Alpha’s quarters when she returned. I find it is beyond calming, which I realize is probably because of the mate bond. When he steps outside, I am shocked to feel the heat of the sun mixed with the coolness of the breeze on my skin. Groaning as my eyes burned from the sudden bright light, I slowly peeked through them to see the sun high in the sky. I look at him surprised, and he raises an eyebrow and turns his head at me quizzically in return. “It was so dark in the room… I’d assumed it was nighttime!” I gasped, blushing as I ducked down to avoid the curious stares of pack members passing by. Atlas steps out onto the walking path as I look straight up, gasping at the span of the sky. It had been ten years since I’d been able to see so much of it

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Rags to Riches

POV: Echo I gaped in awe at the massive white mansion in front of us. It’s immaculately maintained, whereas Red Stone’s pack house was looking rather run down these days. The wrap-around porch with wolves sprawled about on patio furniture engaged in various activities made the place feel less formidable and more homely. Atlas had stopped after turning to face the building, giving me time to take it all in. It’s breathtakingly beautiful, and I realize this pack is far more well-off than I had ever imagined. I revel in the gorgeous lawn, perfectly manicured, but still natural and wild. “It’s amazing!” I breathed, turning to look at him. I can’t help but smile, and the muscles in my cheeks strain from the foreign position. Atlas looked down at me in his arms, with a look so awe-struck and enthralled that I had to look away. I blushed, zeroing in on my hands as they fidgeted in my lap, not sure what to do with myself. I had never had anyone look at me like that before, and it was a far

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Overwhelm, Attraction, and Grief

POV: Echo Atlas wouldn’t let me leave the walk-in closet until I’d picked a new outfit to wear after my shower. I struggled immensely as I had no memory of ever owning more than a couple of tops and bottoms at a time. Wanting nothing more than to wash the smell of the hospital off my body, I grab a plain shirt and leggings, much like what I was used to wearing minus the holes and transparency. Atlas raises his eyebrows at me and clicks his tongue. “Little Mate, you are supposed to be picking something you want to wear, some you actually like!” He says with a gentle smile, putting the offending clothing back. I can’t help but feel anxious as I look more closely at the items in the closet. It’s filled to bursting with such a wide variety of colours, textures, and styles that it completely overwhelms my system. Even though it seems to be organized into categories of clothing, from lounge wear to formal wear, the options are overwhelming and intimidating. Hell, the only time I have se

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Did We…?

POV: Echo I’m not sure how long we sat there for, but eventually, my sobs turned into hiccups, and my eyes ran out of tears. Atlas sat with me the whole time, rubbing my back and allowing me to let it all out. Feeling like a limp noodle, I rested my head on Atlas’s warm chest, listening to his steady heartbeat to calm myself. Seeing that I had finally cried myself out, Atlas leaned in and kissed the top of my head before resting his chin on it. “Would you like to take a bath, Little Mate?” He asks after a bit, pulling away just enough to look down at me. I frown, trying to think of what sitting in frigid water would do to help me right now, when Tala nudges me. ‘I’d be willing to bet that the Alpha of the pack has a hot water tap in his bathroom!’ I smile and nod at Atlas, desperate to feel what a hot bath feels like. I’m sure I’d had one before, but it would have been during the time before Red Stone, the time I can’t remember. My head fell back onto his chest, and I glared at the

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Be Proud

POV: Echo A light knock on the door broke me out of my thoughts as Atlas called out, “Come in!”. A slightly flustered-looking Cordelia pushed the door open, carrying her case with her as she bustled into the room. “Alpha, Luna,” she greeted us with a low nod of her head. “I hope that you’ve been resting?” She asks, with a pointed look at me. “Yes!” I said, nodding. “I’ve been asleep for the large majority of the time I’ve been out of the hospital!” I explained in response to her doubtful look. “Good! Your body needs it to finish healing!” She says as she looks me over. She makes a clicking noise with her tongue as she looks at my ankle cast. “I was right to use a waterproof cast! I suspected you guys might get it wet!” I couldn’t help but chuckle at the way she pretended to scold me, and I felt Atlas’s gaze on me and turned to look at him. He smiled widely at me before giving Cordelia a sheepish look. “Yeah… by the time I remembered about the cast, she was already in the tub, so

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Breakfast

POV: Echo As it was already 9:30 am, most of the pack had already eaten and were off to work by now. The dining room comprised several long tables with matching chairs and benches, and off to the side, there was a buffet counter full of food with trays, plates, bowls, utensils, mugs, and cups at one end. When we entered, the slight buzz of conversation from what appeared to be a group of warriors who were just sitting down to eat was cut off. They all bowed their heads to us, and some of the wolves that I hadn’t seen at Red Stone glanced at me from the corner of their eyes. Atlas nodded back, and the conversation picked back up, although a bit more subdued than before. He guided me over to the counter with his hand on my lower back, and placed a plate, bowl, utensils, mug, and cup on it before handing it to me and grabbing himself the same. We made our way down the line, and Atlas loaded his tray with his favourites. When Atlas discovered I did not know what foods I liked or didn’t

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Luna Ceremony

POV: Echo The day had finally come, and to say that I was nervous would be an understatement. Thankfully, Noira, Gwen, Cordelia, Granny Maeve, and Vesta had shown up at mid-afternoon to get me ready for the ceremony. It would begin as the full moon shone down on us with the Moon Goddess’s blessing. In a spare room on the first floor, they had run me a bath, filled with many things I didn’t recognize, while they prepared the room for creating ‘their masterpiece’. I was grateful to the five she-wolves who came to my aid, as I had absolutely no idea how to do anything with hair or makeup other than a few quick and practical hair styles I’d learned to keep it back while I worked. Each of them had been working their magic, and, mercifully, they had planned little ‘spa’ and snack breaks regularly to help keep me from becoming overwhelmed. I was a thousand times better than I’d ever been with my mental health, but I was so nervous about this evening, and they had not allowed Atlas and I to

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Shift

POV: Echo The incident with Brady changed my outlook on life entirely. Having come into my own as a Guardian of the Light, and breaking down the rest of the block had allowed me to step free of the mental chains that were holding me back before. That’s not to say that my panic attacks and nightmares are completely gone, but I can speak without stuttering now, and have miraculously stopped flinching whenever someone moves. I felt a confidence in myself that had never existed before, and rightfully so. I’d experienced my worst nightmare. He’d done his worst, and I literally defeated him. Turned him human and banished him from the werewolf world. I was also able to identify the woman’s voice that helped me through the incident. It took some digging through the old texts in the back of the pack library and a chat with Granny Maeve to make sure I wasn’t insane before I’d believed it, of course. It turns out Guardians, being specially chosen by the Moon Goddess herself, had a direct link

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Female Alpha

POV: Echo Atlas stands up and sits me on the bed so that I’m facing him, maneuvering me as though I wasn’t growling, kicking, and pawing at him with everything I had to make him let go of me. Avoiding my attempt to nip his hand, he grips my chin and tilts my face up to force me to look at him. “Now, are you done throwing your little fit? You are sitting with me, and that is final. I need you close to keep us calm. If you do not stop, I will be forced to make you stop.” Atlas and Zev explained, and I could sense that they were merged the same as Tala and I were at that moment. “Let. Me. Go! I am not sitting with you! And you can not force me to stop!” I snarled low, narrowing my eyes, and swiping at him with my fingers curled to scratch at him. “Fine.” He growled, catching one hand and then the other before they ever touched him. Leaning forward, he easily pushed me back into the bed, pinning my arms above my head as I thrashed below him. His alpha aura rose, trying to force my wolf

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   In a Mood

POV: Atlas We made record time across the pack lands, moving as quickly as we could without exhausting ourselves entirely. It still wasn’t fast enough for me and my wolf, the only thing containing our rage being the confirmation of the bond that I was moving in the right direction, getting closer to our mate. Echo’s side of the bond was a hot mess, and the feelings coming through were jumbled and impossible to sort through. I only knew something big was going on with her, as I could feel the power within her awakening. Finally, Ragnar slowed down, cautiously approaching a dense patch of vegetation before pushing aside some plants and revealing the entrance to the cave system. Giving him a nod, I went ahead, inhaling deeply to scent the area, ears strained to pick up any sounds. Ever so faintly, I could smell the intoxicating scent of my mate that I’d been missing. Rushing in the direction it’s coming from, I just about crash face first into her as she comes stumbling out of a small

POV: Echo‘Wait’ I barely heard the faint voice, Raze gripping my hips tightly as the darkness released me into his grasp. His touch sent a shiver of disgust down my back as he smirked at me victoriously.“I told you, the likes of you will never be on equal footing with an Alpha like us!” He snarled, the darkness forming a cloud that engulfs us entirely. The shiver turned into a full-blown tremble as tendrils of dark wrapped themselves around me while Raze gripped me by the neck and pulled me into him, pressing my back into his chest as he scented my neck.Swallowing the rising bile, I bow my head submissively, falling back against him as I counted to ten slowly to bide my time, waiting for the right time. By the time I reached ten, I was coated in a layer of black mist, and the wolf behind me had just slipped his hand under my shirt. Thankfully, Tala and I are still merged, and she is able to block the flashbacks as they try to take over our senses.‘Now, child, now!’ The faint voice

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Raze

POV: EchoBrady opened and closed his mouth several times, ultimately ending with him simply closing it and staring at me in awe. Spencer simply gawked at me, unable to even so much as close his mouth as he tried to understand what he’d seen. They seemed to be stuck like that as they processed, and I had a feeling it might take them a bit.I was suddenly filled with a desire to jerk my hands apart, but with the cuffs still securing my wrists to the wall, it seemed redundant. ‘Echo, follow your instincts. They will rarely steer you wrong!’ Tala’s voice rang through my head, and I was relieved that she was still with me. Mentally greeting her and showing my love, I felt the last of my fear dissipate when she told me she had already reached out to our mate and told him where to find us.Deciding to listen to Tala and trust my instincts, I took a steadying breath and wrenched my hands away from each other as hard as I could. I was waiting for the inevitable painful jerking halt as the cuf

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Illuminating

POV: Echo The silver cuffs had created oozing sores that wrapped all the way around my wrists. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t take enough pressure off them to keep the silver from contacting my skin, and now my wounds. The wounds provided the silver with the access to my bloodstream it needed to suppress Tala and physically weaken me. It also blocked my ability to mind-link, which meant I couldn’t reach out for help. After the beating that had brought forth my Alpha aura, Brady had kicked me in the head, effectively knocking me out so that he could freak out without letting me know I’d gotten to him. He was too late though, as I’d seen the briefest flash of fear before he’d gotten to his feet just before he delivered the kick. That had been what I could only assume was hours ago, as there was no sunlight or clock in view to track the time. He hasn’t been back since I’d come to, and I was thankful for the time to orient myself and reinforce my composure. It must have been just a

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   My Place

POV: AtlasRagnar’s comment about underestimating your opponent definitely put a lot of the wolves at the table in their place, including me. I knew right away I had let myself get carried away in the moment and hadn’t paid enough attention to my mate. Her dismay flowed heavily through the bond before she excused herself and rushed out of the dining hall. Knowing that I was most likely a major contributor to her distress, I followed her out and wrapped her in my arms. She turned to putty in my hands as I apologized, and all thoughts of her appointment disappeared from my mind as I carried her to the lift. Until she reminded me, rather insistently, that she had to go.I knew she was right though, as I had my meeting to attend, wanting to finish the setup of the personal guard detail we’d been discussing. We’d picked the six wolves who would be rotating shifts, now we just needed to solidify their duties, shifts, when we needed more or fewer guards, etc. The finer details, so that they

  • Straying Echo: Fighting to Escape an Obsessed Alpha   Judge a Wolf's Appearance

POV: EchoBreakfast was filled with laughter, and a lot of jokes about me flipping Ragnar over my shoulder like a sack of potatoes. I think that most of the wolves there wouldn’t have believed I’d done it if they hadn’t been there to see it.Travis and Blaze certainly looked sceptical for a moment before everyone confirmed I’d done it. Everyone’s doubt made me feel a bit put off, but I know my small size of 5 foot nothing and being underweight weren’t helping. If I don’t think I would believe such a small wolf could flip a 6-foot 7-inch-tall wolf that was built like a brick wall, either. Shrugging it off, I simply gave a small smile to anyone who was surprised as they joined our table.“You know, one of the most dangerous things a wolf can do in a fight is to underestimate their opponent.” I looked up from my tray to find Ragnar was looking straight at me while he spoke. “Judging a wolf’s skills based on their appearance gets you killed out there. I’d have expected better of the warri
